We love the Circuit Bouldering Gym! We have been on so many rainy days and have hosted and attended birthday parties there as well. I appreciate that you have to pre-book your general session so there is not overcrowding in the kids area. The party room is spacious enough and it was nice to be able to bring your own food in instead of having to order from the establishment itself. The staff is very welcoming, party hosts are always energetic and fun, and the kids burn off energy while being in a safe environment. Make sure to watch the safety video (kids and adults) prior to arriving. I would highly suggest bringing a water bottle as well. read more

Been here a few times and always enjoyed it. Staff are friendly. Check-in is easy and they have a nice welcome video for first-timers. It's very clean and the bouldering area is really nice. Well this was well worth the $26 for two kids for the climbing. Our kids climbed until exhaustion and got a good workout in. This is a super healthy and fun activity for kids. It was our first time here and from the website it seemed pricey but the kids can do any of the climbing walls they feel comfortable with. So if they can only do (or prefer to only do,) the kids area they can spend hours there climbing and sliding. Or if they get confident they can move on over to the more advanced area. I will say we only saw the staff at check in/payment and for a woman staffer to come over and tell kids not to ride double or triple down the slides. At one point my daughter, who is 6, was watching a bigger kid (he was maybe 9 or 10,) on the climbing wall just outside the kids area and we were wondering what the different letters and numbers meant. An older climber, who called himself an old man (though he was maybe in his early 40's if that,) let us know the lower numbers were easier climbs, also for the lower letters (A being the lowest) they are easier climbs. That helped us to navigate when we moved over to try the harder climbs. If you're looking for assistance or instruction, you'll definitely need to take classes but if you have kids who want to climb and are confident with heights just take them! **BEWARE OF MALE EMPLOYEE at Tigard location THAT VERBALLY ASSAULTS WOMEN & 4-year old children!! Description below. I am a first time patron to your Tigard location. I have been looking forward to checking out your gym on behalf of my 4-year-old climbing enthusiast. I called ahead to ensure it would be suitable & appropriate for her age. I was assured there was a designated kids area that was both fun & encouraging for young climbers. We invited 3 of her friends to join us from her preschool. When we arrived on Thursday, 5/16 at 1:30pm; the gym was quiet & the staff was very friendly. We signed the waivers & headed back to the kids area. Myself & the 3 other mothers stayed in the kids section with our children. We were attentive, interactive, & engaged the entire time. Around 3pm a few more kids arrived & everyone shared the space. In a hurried instant, a tall, male employee, with shoulder-length bleach-blonde, wavy hair, & dark trimmed beard walked to the far corner to sweep something out of the top corner of the window. He turned directly on our children that were moving from one slide to the adjacent rock face & shouted aggressively at them "STOP RUNNING; STOP RUNNING. You are not allowed to run back here!" He never once made contact with us mothers (who were all watching just a few feet away) to relay a rule we were not aware of in this area. This was very upsetting. The video we watched prior to climbing stated that the rule of children running was regarding only in between & around adult areas. It did not state anything about the connecting pads between the two kids boulder walls. Our children were playing safely, responsibly, & respectfully in the kid-approved section the entire time. When kids from the 3:30pm camp showed up, this individual was the only male instructor & came into the kids area. Our children gave them space & stayed away from their lesson. Again, we were present & interactive the entire time. After the kids were done with that section, the male employee escorted them to the more advanced area. He came back to clear their equipment & abruptly; without warning, stormed over to all 4 of us women; stood on the edge of the mat. & shouted belligerently at us saying that we had been warned several times about our children not following the rules. Not only was this unprecedented, it was completely untrue. He was physically intimidating; pointing his finger directly in my face & standing intentionally & intimidatingly over me. He was shouting at the top of his lungs. None of this confrontation, under any circumstance was ok. He humiliated me, belittled me, falsely accused me of things, & caused my child & I both to fear for our safety. Not once did he or any employee come & talk to us about more specific rules regarding the kids area. Furthermore, there is not any additional, or specific signage clearly stating what the rules of conduct in the kids area are. Myself & the other mother's he physically threatened & verbally assaulted, will not be returning to your facility. I will be posting my experience on all social media platforms as a warning to any parents of small children. This man is a threat to the safety of your business. I hope you further investigate this individual & consider the eventual legal, & financial ramifications this could cause you. Disregarding the verbally assaulting employee-incident; I would strongly encourage you to refresh your waiver video to include kid zone specific safety rules & conduct as well as clearly marking them in the designated areas. It is not fair to be expected to translate the adult version into the kid section when you have 2 slides & connecting pads. read more

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Clean and welcoming environment. Nice yoga room and weight area. Bathrooms are clean and do have single person showers stalls. Got a good session and the route setting is decent. Personally prefer technical foot work and crimpy problems. I found most problems to be slopy dynamic movements. The paint on the walls is a glossy slippery finish with no grit to paste on. Very odd in my experience with boulder gyms. Usually a tacky sand paper feel is ideal for better footwork. I give the establishment a 4/5 and the route setting 2.5/5. read more

I took bouldering classes in college but have been out of practice and was looking to get back into it again and was happy I found The Circuit, a bouldering-only gym (so no rock climbing/harnesses here). Fairly simple check-in process, name for returners and a mandatory signed waiver for new visitors. A day pass is $17 ($15 if you're a student) while shoe rentals are $4. You can definitely wear your own shoes if you want, though rental shoe definitely helps. Gym is quite spacious, with lots of cubbies along the wall to store your personal belongings. There are 2 gender neutral shower rooms and regular men and women restrooms in the back. Highly recommend checking their website and instagram for special events, schedules, and deals such as free open gym nights for college and high school students and etc. Recently they've been doing some cool Christmas giveaways like free day/punch passes, 10% off gym gear/apparel. They also have $5 Fridays once a month and Beginner Nights (first timers only) every Wednesday after 4pm, with 50% off your day pass. Very chill and friendly staff. I've been coming in to redeem their free Christmas day/punch passes and realized with my most recent visit that none of them were saved onto my account, and the staff was very quick to fix the problem for me. Be mindful that you are sharing the space with children since they do host birthday parties and climbing camps at times. They do have a children's climbing area in the back with a slide, but otherwise, it's pretty much a free for all. You don't need to be an avid boulderer to come, I've taken a couple of friends here (of all skill levels) and they've been loving it. We recently learned that they also host fitness and yoga classes, which comes free with your day pass. Will definitely come back to try out those classes next time I visit! read more

Stopped by the first time with family on Monday, Memorial Day, and glad to see that they were opened. There were quite a number of people and even those doing yoga. Had to sign waiver and input some information electronically so that was a quick process. We're able to climb wearing socks, our own shoes, or their climbing shoes (for rent). Area towards the back left are suitable for younger children, teens and beginners. There are even slides to get down from the top. We started off here and had a great time warming up. As we moved into the larger arena, there are walls with various difficulty. Just gaze at the size of boulders and degree for your needs. We were glad to find some challenging enough but still manageable for our group. Loved that everyone was respectful of each other's space since it's a bouldering gym and people can fall at any time. Great routesetting | Great facility $ My husband and I have traveled to a lot of places and climbed at several indoor climbing gyms. We've climbed at gyms in California, Hawaii, Oregon, Montana, and even in Canada. Most of the time, no other gym can really compare to our home gym in Santa Rosa, but this time we enjoyed climbing at this gym. Great vibe at this gym. Front desk is friendly and checked us in quickly. Facility is all bouldering and in my honest opinion, the perfect size. It's not too huge like a Touchstone or Planet Granite chain gym --which can be kind of obnoxious-- and it's not too small where wherever you stand you're in a fall zone. The flooring is nicely taped up and evenly padded, not bulging and lumpy like other places. Walls are new looking and maintained. LOTS of space and variety of challenging climbs. Slack line area. Small weight training area next to slack line area. For the most part there's a nice air flow going. Bathrooms and changing/shower rooms are nice. Lots of cubby holes to put your stuff in. Good-sized parking lot as well. REMEMBER: Climbing rating system is subjective. We're used to our home gym's rating, so every gym we visit seems to be a little soft for us. And there's nothing wrong with that, really! Routes are well thought out here. There's a really good flow to them, so you don't feel any awkward or forced movements. That can be really confusing especially to the beginning climbers who are learning how to move on the wall and read routes. So, THANK YOU, guys! In some areas, you're able to top out and walk down the stairs. Neat! One last thing I need to comment on is the community. I didn't feel like I was a number at this place, like how I usually feel at a Touchstone or Planet Granite gym. Not everyone will immediately shout some supportive words when you're trying hard on a route, but people are friendly and you can easily befriend people here. There's a bunch of young people, lots of beginners, and lots of families having fun. I noticed that there was a designated area for children to climb at, which is awesome because the routes are specifically for them. I have only been to one other climbing gym so far and as much as I loved that place I think I like this one a bit more. The other gym I have been too was a full climbing gym with bouldering and large climbing walls, and honestly at this point I am more interested in bouldering than I am in full climbing and harnesses and what not. This place is 100% a bouldering gym. They have so many walls to climb and varying levels of difficulty. The day pass and shoe rental came to $20 and if I lived closer I would definitely get a membership. In addition to the bouldering options they have 3 slack line setups and a lifting area, plus all kinds of grip strength training areas. This place was amazing and we all had a ton of fun!! My favorite part about this gym is that it's dedicated to bouldering only. Collectively the Circuit gyms are the most impressive climbing gyms I've ever been to. I live in SoCal and most of the gyms I've been to there are waaaaaay smaller with way less problems and/or share space with belays, which I don't bother with. Even when this gym is crowded there are still tons of options. There's a dedicated yoga room with classes almost daily/nightly, slacklines for adults and kids, rings, elliptical etc. The kids area is really impressive and good for kid parties. It's also good for traversing. Speaking of kids, there are a TON of kids here at what seems like all times of the day, even during the school year. It can be amazing to watch kids climb because it seems to come so easy to them. The downside is they often jump in front of you and occupy a wall without any concern for other people. Today I saw a father with three kids who was actually telling his kids to be mindful of other people and other people's space. I was super impressed with him. Unaware kids is not unique to this gym or location but this gym is a SUPER kid friendly gym so beware if you're not a fan of kids. read more

This is a pretty nice place but not mind blowing. The staff was really nice. I took a five year old to check out their kid area. It was alright. Just bouldering, no belays at this gym. They have slides for the kids to come down, which is great. And a slackline for them. There were a couple a birthday parties going when we happened to stop in so it was a mad house. I would recommend calling first. Don't go if there are parties happening. So many kids running around it of control is a bad idea, unsafe and not so fun. Edit: I've been bouldering around a year and a half now. Here's a comprehensive review: Positives: 1) The kids area is unmatched, it's really superb. This is the gym to go to if you have kids. Or if you want to try climbing but you're terrified, you can start in the kids area. 2) The selection of bouldering walls is fantastic. It's all bouldering, so if you come alone, you can climb the whole gym. 3) The setting is fun and always refreshed every week. 4) Big parking lot. Negatives: 1) The mats are in poor shape. They are constantly being repaired, but it seems like a never-ending process because the initial design is flawed. Not as cushioned as other gyms, and you can trip over the seams or bunched up spot. 2) The staff needs to be trained better in greeting and handling customers. 3) The workout-out area should have at least two ellipticals and two exercise bikes, a rower, treadmill, etc. If you want to warm up on the elliptical and someone is on it, you're out of luck. Also, if you want to only buy one gym membership, the fitness area and class options are inadequate. 4) The campus training is only the hardest, traditional option. Other gyms have slightly easier campus training options (bars, slopers), which are good if you are say at V5 but can't handle moving up the rungs on the ladder. Initial: Amazing facilities. I have gone a few times for me (I mostly run, so climbing is a nice change of pace). But for children it's amazing. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I have been to the one in North Portland (very nice) and Tigard (amazing). My 3.5 year-old-twins will spend 3 hours here without even noticing. read more

I have been going here for a year now, and I'm looking forward on many more years to come! This Circuit bouldering gym is the biggest among all three gyms, and I personally think it's the BEST! Starting from the bottom and actually reaching the top is such a gratifying experience. If you have no one to spot you, you can simply ask one of people that work there. They are all very well knowledge and provide exceptional advise when you plan on challenging yourself. They have a great taste of music, the songs constantly get my heart beating and I suddenly get strength to pull myself forward. None of that lame same old music that is being played over and over. Occasionally I find routes that are unstable or slightly tilting when I apply my weight on them, but they are always fixed once addressed to an employee. I'm extreme and don't mind the danger because it certainly turns on my fight or flight response. Regardless, landing on the crash pad below is never a problem because they take most of the impact. read more

This was the first time going to any of the Circuit gyms in Portland. They have 2 other gyms and we decided to try this because it's their newest. Upon walking in I noticed the two slack lines they have and I was pretty impressed! I normally go to SBP and they didn't have it. There are two top out boulders and I noticed that there is a lot more variety in their walls. There's areas with some over hang and some that are curved in. Each wall is pretty different and there were a ton of interesting routes to try. I got tired quickly just because everything is new to me and I wanted to try everything. Nice friendly staff. I love the open area. One thing that I love at SBP that they lack here are the mats. The mats at SBP are super thick and really padded so I felt comfortable falling. I was much more cautious climbing here. read more

The newest and largest addition to the Circuit family, this facility boasts huge variety of boulder walls, slackline, state of the art gym equipment, and yoga classes. This is a beautiful gym and I wish I lived much closer to it as it's a trek from Portland on weekdays with the traffic. I've started going on weekends and can easily spend over 2 hours here and still be working on just one section of a wall. I love the different route settings available and having so many routes to work on. If you live nearby, you need to climb here! read more

The Circuit is an amazing place for people who are looking for a fun, unique experience and for those who want to improve their bouldering skills. The Tigard facility is extremely clean and has a multitude of different routes so you definitely won't be bored here. In addition to bouldering, they also have yoga studios and even slacklines! There are so many routes that are nicely color-coded so they are easy to follow along, even when you are on the wall. There is a good variety of levels so both beginners and seasoned experts can enjoy their bouldering experience. The slacklines available are super fun to attempt and are a good way to take a break from bouldering until your hands and arms recover. There are even bouldering walls designated for younger children so really people of all skill levels and ages can enjoy themselves at The Circuit. I purchased a summer membership which is perfect for students visiting during the summer. It's a great deal and not available for much longer so I recommend getting one now! read more

My favorite Circuit gym out of the 3, which also happens to be the furthest. Definitely worth the drive. The staff here are easy to spot and they're so kind. Routes are somewhat often changed. The lighting here is also much better than the SW location and slightly better than the NE gym. Can be pricey and it does add up if you go frequently without a membership. $14 for a day pass and an extra $4 for rental shoes. For first timers, be aware that your hands may get shredded by the holds. read more

As far as climbing gym's go, this is one of the best! There are two large top-out boulders in the center of the gym, with more walls of various angles throughout. There is a dedicated kids area, as well as a dedicated slack line and weight lifting section. The floors are well-padded and there is a lot of room in between all of the action. The staff is very welcoming and do a fantastic job teaching kids rules and climbing basics. The only thing to consider, is that this is a bouldering gym. While the walls are high enough to get the adrenaline flowing, they are low enough to not require ropes. If you're looking for roped climbing, you'll have to venture to one of the downtown area gyms. read more

This place has a kid section but is not a kid friendly place. At least to the group my kid and I were with today. The check in and staff weren't a problem at all but the manager was. Myself and the other parent sat at the bench in general public section where we could easily watch and reach our kids. We happily settled to supervise our kids from the bench as some adult climbers looked annoyed that the area was so packed with other non climbing parents. The manager originally approached us asking to put one of our kids in time out. He even said to the kid and us he would not be allowed in the area after one more incident of running. He used a word "warning." We were dumbfounded and did not know what to say to him. He said he was sure we were explained all the rules including no running and no jumping at the check in. We weren't. We happened to read them all posted on the wall ourselves as we signed the waiver. And he repeatedly questioned our parental supervision skills as well as our common sense as guests. The manager continued to repeatedly target this kid in our group when he was acting no different than many other kids in the same area. (We actually didn't notice any outrageous behavior. Yes, he was running to us in joy after successful climbing or when he was ready to do another. But he wasn't running into anybody or startling anyone.). But the manager didn't talk to any of other parents like he did to us. They weren't standing there with their kids like we were repeatedly asked to do with ours. We were so confused. When we did stay with the kids on the mat/floor, one staff at one point even asked us nicely to back away from our kids climbing because he said it was not safe, but the manager kept coming to tell us to go and stay right where our kids were climbing while we were on the bench but in close proximity. We actually had a 28-year-old natural beauty stay and climb with them at all time. I guess the manager thought she was one of our "kids." I understand the rules and waiver form are there for reasons. Physical and legal safety for us the customers and them the business. I am all for it. But for the manager to clearly single out a kid and the group on the insignificant basis, that's not ok. I think what flabbergasted us the most was how the manager did not approach our kid not even once and he said he was giving us "a warning and time out." This doesn't make sense. You can't give a kid a warning and time out at the same time. You can give a kid a warning, and a failure to follow that warning can be a consequence such as time out. As a parent and an educator, it was clear that what the manager implied was not a meaningful warning but a nonsensical threat. It would be totally appropriate if he said something like "Hi. Just in case you didn't notice, I've had to come talk to one of your kids about no running a few times already and he has not stopped. Would you please go over the rule with him? If it's not resolved, I am afraid he won't be allowed in this area." A warning makes sense only if you define what desirable behavior (no running) is AND establish that a kid understands it but fails to follow the direction. Then a consequence such as removal from the area can follow. If the manager brought his concern to our attention after giving the kid a reminder(s) not to run or giving us a chance to handle the situation and he continued to run, we would be gladly implementing a time out ourselves. It was just a very disappointing visit. If you open your business to kids and family, I think you should handle kids situations logically and systematically. Approaching the parents in judgemental ways is not appealing at all. read more

I am giving one star for the YOGA experience. Seriously, for $14 a pop, you could find a much nicer yoga studio. Also consider that they charge separately and equally for yoga and climbing. I got news for you: these experiences and not separate (noise, cold) and certainly not equal. When they built this business, they didn't seem to care that the 1970's disco music, hoots, hollars, and grunts from the climbing gym would be leaking into the studio. How annoying. Why didn't they add some sound proofing to the particle board structure? Also, women's restroom = burrrrrrr. Can you please turn the heat on? Not everyone likes to blow dry their cold, dried out, chapped, calloused, swollen - from - climbing hands. Put some towels in there! (Hint Planet Granite has towels, lotion, and heat in their ladies room). Bottonline: Skip the yoga here, it's a farce. I might try the taking a yoga class at Planet Granite, maybe they will have their act together. Also bring yourself a towel to dry your tender hands, and some lotion. Neither my son nor I have any experience with bouldering (so I can't speak to how it rates from an experienced climber's standpoint but they mentioned they change the climbing routes weekly) but we both had a lot of fun and will absolutely go again soon! read more
