I am so excited about our new closets! In the past, I never really thought about getting a company to design our closets. But over the years, when I would visit open houses or estate sales, I noticed people would have these cool shelves and drawers in their closets. I was content to have just what the home builders put in, along with some cheap Rubbermaid plastic drawers. Recently I decided it was time to get more organized and to upgrade my cheap drawers into something more durable and visually appealing. Wasn't sure how much it would cost, so I came on Yelp to read some reviews. I asked a few different companies to come out and create a design. I didn't really know how to design a closet, so I was thankful that they would come up with something that worked for my needs. All 6 companies were great and I actually had a hard time choosing between 4 of them, because I liked all the designers and the prices were pretty comparable. What made me decide to go with Closet Doctor was when designer Gentri (cool name) did some measurements and then showed me his design on his laptop. While other companies came up with nice designs, Gentri had one that was quite unique from the others. It was a design that I had not even thought about, but was intrigued with the concept (which was two sets of drawers instead of one). Texted with Gentri about door handle options and I was able to get all my questions answered to my satisfaction. I read Closet Doctor's positive Yelp reviews and also heard from a neighbor who said her friends had used Closet Doctor and loved them also. Made me feel good about choosing them. Put down a deposit and waited for them to inform me of my installation date, which ended up being almost 4 weeks from the signing of the contract. On the day of installation, Mike showed up promptly during the projected time frame and did an amazing job. Laid out carpets to protect our flooring and worked diligently for over 4 hours, lugging nonstop equipment up and down stairs. Phew, quite a workout. Each time he went outside, he closed the door behind him, which was so considerate of him. I would have told him to just leave the door open so he wouldn't have to open/close the door with his hands full of equipment. But it went to show how careful and thoughtful he was during the installation. I can tell Closet Doctor trains their employees very well. Mike finished the installation in the projected time frame and I was amazed that he was able to put everything together all by himself. Some areas for improvement: Some companies will take out pre-existing shelves and do touch-ups the day before installation. Closet Doctor does not do this, which is fine. I had asked how much advance notice we would have of the installation date. Cindy emailed and said we would have "a couple weeks notice." This seemed perfect, since it would give us time to empty out the closet, remove shelves and paint the walls beforehand. However, we were informed on Friday evening that our installation would be the following Wednesday. As a result, there was a mad scramble while I tried to find a painting company over the weekend. We also rushed to take out the existing shelves ourselves, which wasn't too difficult, especially after finding a YouTube video by Closet Doctor with helpful tips on removing everything. So it all worked out. Just be advised you might not get too much advance notice of your installation date when you're planning. Another area of improvement would be to make sure designers don't chew gum when meeting with potential customers. :P It didn't make the best first impression but fortunately his designs impressed me so I was able to overlook the gum-chewing. :P Not a biggie and some customers probably wouldn't care, but just a first impression thought. We originally were going to get a couple of quotes, but after Scott came out it was an easy decision. Super professional and personable. He got our budget and worked around it making it 100 percent customizable to what we had. The rating for this business could easily be a 5+! That is, if Scott was doing all the home visits, designs, and customer service. Unfortunately, Wade was our first salesman, and the linen closet he designed is not nearly what we expected. The cupboards in the laundry room are fine. Wade's work is a "2" at best. Scott, on the other hand, designed a small office area and garage storage cabinets for us; both of those projects are a 5+!!! The installers are great, too; and the office manager and the front office representative are fantastic! We love our new office space & garage storage; thanks to Scott and the crew! We received a couple recommendations from our neighbors for the Closet Doctor. We wanted to have a Murphy bed and office set up for our den. We visited their store/showroom and met with the owner Derrek. Very friendly and professional.. rescheduled an appointment with him to come and take measurements for our den and he came up with beautiful digital design so that we could see exactly what it would look like.... it was very impressive! We selected the Wood colors, the cabinet/drawer handles , etc. they completed the project quickly and installation was fast efficient and we absolutely loved the results. Most recently we had the Closet Doctor design and build cabinets for our laundry room. This review is 5 years overdue. In February 2018 we met with Derrick. He designed a storage solution for our owners closet. It was subsequently installed and to date we are very happy with the outcome. The design utilized the space very well. Our closet looks amazing but more important it is highly functional. In addition the off gassing was short lived. We have used a different closet company for a separate project and their product is still off gassing 3 years later. Most recently, I went in to the new The Closet Doctor location to purchase some cabinet pulls. I did not know which size screws I needed. Derrick and staff provided the standard screws plus snap off screws free of charge. Thank you Derrick and team! read more

I'm giving 2 stars because the closet actually turned out quite nice in the end despite the installer working alone with zero help. that being said; working with this company overall... frustrating. Starts off fine, I call and ask for a quote/appointment and have a relatively nice conversation. When Brandee shows up early to measure/ quote and discuss, I'm given a timeline of when she'll have a mockup and quote for me and go over any changes or tweaks I'd like. Also told that the color for my closet is pretty easy to get, less "custom" and that they can prob fast track me along. Wrong. That timeline for design contract comes and goes. Nothing. I had to call and follow up to get my quote since days later it was not provided. It is a CAD drawing with written measurements not really a photo layout you can get a realistic idea from, and did not ask me any tweaks I'd like. So, I had zero part in the "design process." I had to ask a couple times to get a realistic layout sent but finally did and the "vision" was then easier to see. (why not just send that with quote in the first place??) Really not giving me the vibe that they care about earning my business whatsoever at this point. Well, I agree that design will work, and ask next steps as I'd like to get things moving. Told to wait several more days for a contract. (why not have that WITH the proposal plans?!) Timeline I'm given for that also comes and goes, and I have to remind rep to send it please and take my deposit so that I can move forward in the process. I should have read the red flags and RUN, but at this point now had time/money and energy invested, so decide to ride it out. Several weeks go by, and I hear NOTHING. not a peep or update where things are. I call to inquire, (since my email was ignored) and leave a message. I get a return call days later from Cindy who was pretty rude and had zero actual info nor did she look up my specific order. It was as if she was mad I was bugging them to even ask. Just a general "it takes a while." Very unprofessional and dismissive. Ok, great I do understand, but I was given verbal timelines for things more than once that have come and gone. And there is ZERO communication, so understandably I am confused and wanting information. This company really does not come across that they want your business or value you as a customer WHATSOEVER. I had to chase them down at every stage to get each step completed and move my project along. The unprofessionalism, lack of follow through,(over promising) met with crappy attitudes really just sealed the deal for me that I will steer clear in the future. You would be wise to do the same. So many past good reviews, maybe they figure they no longer need to "try". It shows. Spend your thousands of dollars for a customized closet elsewhere. read more

Although we vowed never to work with this company again (see previous review) we needed to add a second workstation to the home office that they initially installed and we perceived it would be easiest to have them make the modifications. Since Wade was at the heart of our communication problems last time, we specifically chose a different designer, Scott, as the contact person with whom to work. Scott arrived on time for the initial appointment and we initially made no reference to our past negative experience as we wanted to have a fresh start. We walked him through every detail of what we wanted, knowing that these nuances were important to note. The new workstation involved extending an existing 3-piece desktop in front of a window. It was mentioned that we did not want to remove any window trim but rather have the new desk top custom cut around it. We also specified that we wanted the new longer desktop to be fully integrated with the existing panels so it doesn't look like an add-on. The latter would require replacing a third panel of the existing desktop with new material. At the time of the design we were told that installations were being booked approximately 5 weeks out. Upon receipt of the design drawings via email, we negotiated a reasonable price and signed the online contract. I was told that installation was 10 weeks out from the date of down payment. This was frustrating as it is not consistent with what I was initially told but I just accepted it. I called the company to make payment so I could get on the calendar ASAP. This was a pretty consistent theme--I had to consistently call to make payment, inquire about scheduling, status updates, etc. It is annoying to feel like you are chasing a company down to give them your money. Again, I just accepted this hoping that once the final product was in we would be content. The day of installation finally arrived and we took the time to clear our entire room as per the company's request. The lead installer (I can't recall his name) was on time, respectful of our property, and very polite. Upon looking at the space, he asked for verbal confirmation that I was okay with cutting the window trim and also stated that the new desktop would not be replacing an existing panel but would be adjacent to the existing desktop and have a small bump/ridge. These are two specific details that were discussed at the time of design yet were not incorporated into production. I expressed my frustration but stated that I would accept these flaws for a discounted price given that this is clearly not what was mentioned in the planning process. He stated that he could not make such decisions and would call Scott or the company owner, Derek for guidance. He was told to tell me that someone would call me within 30 minutes with a response re: how to rectify the situation and he left. I called Scott and the main company phone number and left multiple messages. Scott called back but each time stated that he needs 30 more minutes, but only once called me back in this window. I was finally told that the owner, Derrek, said I could have my deposit back. After taking a day off for the installation, taking the time to clear the room, and waiting over two months for a simple modification of a home office, this is not an acceptable response. I was again told to wait 30 more minutes, waited longer than this, and was ultimately informed that Derrek would call me the following week. Given that we have now had two issues with the Closet Doctor related to communication and production, I cannot recommend this company to anyone, ever. Moreover, the arrogant attitude displayed by the owner--expecting customers to be at his beck and call--is a horrible way to run a business. It seems that he has forgotten that the success of his business is dependent on customers, not the other way around. read more

We interviewed several closet companies before deciding upon The Closet Doctor. We I tidally chose them because the plans were done on scene, they we're not high pressure for the sale, the price was very fair, and they were a local, family run business. We are recommending them now because of the quality of the priduct and the customer service. James came out at the date and time promised to do the closet demolition. He was excellent... An old-school quality guy... He patched up the walls and painted them to make them look like they were brand new!!! The next day Matt came over at the promised time and worked non-stop. He placed coverings down on the floors, was extremely friendly, professional, and efficient. He kept us posted on his progress, cleaned up as he went along and at the completion of the job he explained everything to us. On if my favorite things about their cabinets was their mou ting system and how they hang off of the floor allowing me to use my garage as a shop. The closet was not measured correctly to reinstall the correct doors so now I am out another $1500 for custom mirrored closet doors to accommodate their mistake after making the drawers too wide. It's really been frustrating after living in a hotel for 2 months after our home was flooded. They offered to re-do it or $200 off my bill...not cool and still dealing with challenges. They seem like a decent outfit, however I think they should come and install my custom track for free considering they cost me no closet doors and the hassle of the time it's took to get it whole again. I'll ask and update later. They attempted to bully me and sequester my ability to authenticate a review...super pissed! Glad they will be on NONE of my amazing jobsites or my renovation show. We have used the Closet Dr on our last 4 houses. They have ALWAYS exceeded our expectations. It's amazing how much extra room you can get out of your closet with their personalized closet systems. I have to admit that between houses 2 and three, we got a quote from another closet company in our area. Not because we thought we would get better results, we just wanted to make sure we were getting the most for our money (sorry Derrek). Turns out the other company was at least twice the price!
