Clean restaurant, good fresh food, crispy fries, nice batter on the fish and the prices are normal. I like this restaurant.

Halibut House is a place that specializes in our beloved fish & chips. A small establishment from…read morePort Perry that grew over the past decade to become a large fish & chip franchise in Ontario. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but inspired our fish appetite! Haddock & Chips order had an impressively sized fish fillet piece along with plenty of thick cut fries underneath. For takeout, we were peeved that they used pre-packed condiments for tartar sauce rather than provide some homemade or dine-in option. But the fish itself was golden & crunchy on the outside with pleasant flaky fillet texture inside. Well worth it, and they even offer $11 Sun/Mon specials. As for the Halibut & Chips, we were sadly underwhelmed by our first attempt. The fish is firm, mild in flavour with perhaps a little bit of sweetness. It tasted rather bland. We may have to try it fresh to see if it's an acquired taste. Otherwise we'll stick to cod/haddock. The fries accompanying both were a tad soggy but did a bit better with a splash of S&P. To be honest, we've had comparable fish & chips elsewhere. We've even started to rely on our own air fryer at home to cut some grease. However, for convenience it's good to know that Halibut House is a fish & chip option just a stone's throw away from us!

I have no words! Hands down one of the best fish and chips spots I have been to!…read more Fish is fresh, never dry. Batter is super crispy never overdone or greasy. Portions are generous and the coleslaw and fries are amazing and complete the fish so well. I can eat just a plateful of their fries. Service is great, all the servers are so incredibly nice and friendly. It is always packed at lunch & dinner. Def a local favourite because everyone there knows each other. We tried the haddock, halibut and breaded shrimp! I wish I could have shared more photos, but when the plates are brought to the table I can't resist digging in right away! The menu options are great where you can get 3 pieces of haddock or halibut with 2 orders of fries. Lots of parking and plenty of seating inside. Takeout orders are 5% off. The menu is great with so many options! We first tried Joy's 6 weeks ago - we have been back almost every week since our first visit. When it's time to pay they give you a scratch card with your receipt - everyone is a winner. To redeem the card, spend $35 on your next visit for the free item. Some of the items you can scratch and win are , haddock & fries, halibut & fries, Joys feast special, large plate of fries. I'm sure there are more as these are just the items we have won. Options for fish and chips are very limited in Markham, so I love the option of visiting Stouffville nearby for Joy's Fish & Chips. Until next time...

I ordered 2 of their specials (Haddock and chips including a pop) for $12.50 + tax each. I was a little hesitant about the haddock being fishy? And was debating on paying more and getting their halibut. I was worried sick all the way home. But Upon eating the haddock, I was truly genuinely surprised at how good it was. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between this and halibut which is saying a lot about fish and chips. When my food was done, I saw the cook ( a lady ) and it was the same one from my previous visits a long time ago. Oh boy, I hope they don't change as the lady cook is a keeper! I know that this place was up for sale a while back and that is why I was hesitant to come here recently. But, after seeing that the cook is the same, I will be sure to make a few more visits and into my regular rotation of take out food. To all the yelpers out there. This is by far the best haddock I've tried and is comparable to halibut at a portion of the price. It's an easy recommendation.

The fish and chips are solid choices and they live up to their name. A good amount of chips that come with the meal. I think for the price we were a bit disappointed by the quantity of the calamari and for the chicken souvlaki, a bit sad looking (see pic) and not as flavourful or just below par. Definitely skip the souvlaki here and get what they're known for. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant. However, we just ordered for takeout.

I said ok no problem Upon my food arriving it was pretty small ( look at pic). And I would have given a 1 star review But I must say the halibut (even though miniature in size) was actually crispy and flavourful and even though I didn't take a picture, the fish was pretty thick. Therefore my reason for 3 stars. Also, the fries were not quite right for a fish and chips shoppe. Either they were frozen or they were re-cooked for too long and they were hard, bland and tasteless. I will still keep my review at 3 stars. But I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Sorry, hope they can do better for other patrons.
