I've been to this location of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf several times. It's been awhile since my last visit, so I forgot that one of the entrances is through Foodland! LOL! I entered through the door that faces Kapiolani Boulevard. Inside the cozy shop, there are two small tables with chairs for customers to enjoy their purchases. I took my Matcha Latte to go. It's odd that the Manoa location charged me $3.14... because our sales tax is 4.712%. I paid 99 cents more at this Market City location because coconut milk was used. This location is one of my favorites just because it's close to home, but the worst part is the parking lot. I swear it takes forever to get parking because you have foodland and then all the other restaurants surrounding that area. Relatively small on side with maybe like 3 seats available. My go to drink her is the plantation iced tea, iced matcha latte, and recently their new matcha strawberry cream. Plantation iced tea just hits for a good price even for the jumbo. Not too sweet which is like the best compliment. I was iffy about the matcha strawberry cream at first because I didn't think they would mix well. To my surprise it's great. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf -Market City Ive been coming to this location for years because of its convenient hours and location, but after this morning's experience, I think it might be time to move on. I arrived right around 7am and ordered two drinks. I understood it was a bit busy, and I was the fifth customer waiting. After a while, one of my drinks was placed on the counter--no name called, no communication. I had to walk up and ask if it was mine, and even then, I got no response. I took the drink and waited patiently for the second. Several customers were served after me. After seeing five drinks go out, I approached the counter again to ask about my second drink. The cashier and barista said nothing--just exchanged small talk--before the barista finally started making my drink. When it was done, it was placed on the counter again with no name called. I had to walk up and ask if it was mine, again. I told the barista that, in customer service, at the very least, you acknowledge when you overlook someone's order. Instead, I was met with silence. Eventually, the barista mumbled that she had lost her voice. That was it--no apology, no effort to make things right. I get that mistakes happen. But it's how you handle those moments that make the difference. The lack of communication and basic acknowledgment was disappointing. Unfortunately, this was the final straw for me. Coffee is life for me and I live off of it. This "bean water" as Joyce W would say is a major food group in my diet. This Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is located in Market City Shopping Center inside of Foodland. There is seating available both inside and outside. I've been coming here more often because it's so close and Mink likes the flavor of their coffee slightly more than Starbucks. They have a stamp card so make sure to get one. I wish they had an app that automatically tracks your purchases like Starbucks. Why am I giving them only 2 stars? During several visits, I ordered the large light roast but they didn't have any. I need coffee so I go with their dark roast. They never fill it up to the top. I don't understand that because I always tell them I don't add cream or sugar. With the large, I get a regular cups worth of coffee. If I get their regular, I get even less coffee. This is mind boggling. I figured my last visit would be different because I donated to their charity but same thing again, coffee wasn't filled even close to the top. After I did a quick lunch grab at Foodland, I figured "it's raining, Tea sounds good" so I went in to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (TCBTL) that is connected to the Market. There was only one girl before me, who was busy chatting it up with the register person and TCBTL's regular customer- One aunty with dreads that is always there, she cool and I get the whole vibe thing in this store so I didn't mind the 30 second wait, as soon as the girl realized I was behind her, she ordered and moved right along. So I ordered my drink. An extra hot Chai Tea Latte with Soymilk. By the time I completed my transaction, there were two other people behind me, so I moved to the side. Granted, I got a hot drink, extra hot at that, so I wasn't too irked about the two men getting their cold drinks before me. What irked me was that my drink took 7 minutes to make with 5 "chatty kathy" baristas behind the bar. FIVE baristas trying to make ONE drink, and at this point the store is empty. But STILL, I was irked but kept the faith because I wanted that hot tea latte! So whatever, waited 5 hours later (what feels like) and finally got my drink. Get in the car and hurry off to work, in traffic. The first sip I take is when I get on the freeway and my drink tastes like hot watery milk! &&&& THe fricken thing doesn't even taste like SOY! & I KNOW that's an EXTRA CHARGE! UGHHH! Now I am pissed! I thought, "I should go back and make a scene, this is not right." But F**k losing MORE money to turn this B*tch around and waste my gas for one $8 drink, and probably, with my luck, end up on Hungry Hungry Hawaiian! "F**k That" All the things I didn't let get the best of me in the store, just to have my $8 drink taste like something I could've made with the damn Keurig at work, that would've probably even taste BETTER than this Sh*t! Where to begin, we stopped by to grab a cool caffeinated beverage because it's that time of that day where tiredness kicking in yet so much to do. The overall experience we had in this establishment was definitely weird. The register person didn't seem to want to help us as far as taking our order while the barista was eager to make our drink. And the I think we were over charge for what we ordered which was a small oat milk chocolate mocha with extra mocha was worth $9.00. I suppose we could've just gone to a local coffee shop and received better experience for that price. The area was considerably clean well kept. There was no flavor at all and the barista barely put ice in the drink so it was difficult to drink, wasn't worth going back and having them remake it again. Mo' Joe Mondays, Summer Time Sips, and Treat Yo'self Thursdays are the specials that get me to go to Coffee Bean Hawaii for my afternoon breaks. The drink specials are $2 or $3. My favorite beverage is the plantation ice tea and I highly recommend it if you're looking for something refreshing, fruity and just a small dose of caffeine. For pastries, I love the 4 cheese bruschetta but I rarely see it when I go in the afternoons. I'm not sure if they still make that but I have seen the margherita bruschetta. This location has 2 entrances/exits and the space is small. You can enter from Foodland by the customer service desk or from the glass doors on Harding Ave. For social distance, they have the line forming from the Foodland side so it might be better to enter from there and exit from the Harding Ave. door. There's always 2 people working, 1 barista and 1 cashier. I usually get my drink in about 5 minutes. read more

Sometimes I feel like I am cheating on Starbucks. Apparently, that's what I did when I came to coffee Bean and tea leaf. It is weird. I decided to check out this new Vietnamese place here at the Market City shopping Center on a crisp November morning 2021. I had time to kill and needed a drink. Decided to check it out versus getting cold water at the Foodland next door, which usually is cheaper anyhow. My experience here at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf here at Market City shopping center lasted about 7 minutes in total. I spent about 2 minutes deciding what I want and asking the staff there if they had the same sizes Starbucks had (or similar). Luckily - or unluckily, their large size is more of a medium really and it was close to $5. The price point was a bit more expensive than Starbucks. I ordered iced tea and I guess the perceived value didn't do much for me. Although the black tea was interesting to taste, the quality was okay and interesting. The staff here was friendly, so that was cool too. The overall experience here at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf here at the Market City Shopping Center in Kaimuki / Kapahulu was not bad. Not bad at all, although the shop was pretty small for what it does. They have a limited assorted menu, but it's basically coffee and tea drinks at your pleasure. I don't think they do anything else other than just straight coffee or tea drinks. Maybe a mixture of things, but unlike Starbucks, I didn't see anything like a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf's version of a frappuchino - although I'd be ordering that instead of a simple black tea drink. That's probably what sets Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and Starbucks apart. They do have assorted pastries and other baked goods to sell, but other than that, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf can be a good alternate spot to get your coffee and tea needs that's not Starbucks. I felt like the ambiance here was just okay and didn't feel like it had an air conditioning that was presumed on while I was there. The store itself was clean and quite organized. I could see myself coming back here if I was shopping at Market City shopping center and needing some refreshment. I'm not one to compare Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to Starbucks, but it's practically night and day. I'd recommend coming here, if you want an alternative to Starbucks. They probably have different coffee strains than Starbucks does, which is probably a good reason to come here. This Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf store is located at the Market City shopping Center. It's address is 2919 Kapiolani Blvd, which is basically next to the H-1 overpass in Kaimuki and where Waialae Avenue meets Kapiolani Blvd. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. In this COVID-19 pandemic, face masks are required to be worn inside the store and social distancing is required as well. For the most part though, the experience here at this Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was nice, short, and sweet. While I can't say much about the perceived value with the size of the drink cups they use, all I do know is that you can get good service and a good cup of tea, when you want it. It's just different than what Starbucks delivers. Different in a good way. As far as parking goes, there's plenty of parking on the top side of Market City shopping center, fronting the H-1 overpass on Kapiolani Blvd, but there's a back side area parking fronting Kaimuki High School. Just plan your outing here so you can get a good spot before the rush comes. If you are like me, bus routes 1, 9, 13, and 14 come thru the area. While Starbucks may be the king of coffee, you can find good quality stuff here at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, you might find the hidden gem that's been eluding you for a while. 3.5 stars for the overall experience. 3.5 stars for the drink and 4.0 for the service, but 3.0 stars for the prices. Haven't gone to this place for over a year even though I had Costco gift cards for them. The cards were a pain _____ cause I had to punch in the obtuse code number on the back everytime I used them. At the time whoever was serving just said they mess up sometimes, next! But today we went to Donut King and they were closed. So popped into CBTL with cards in tow. A new card worked but the old one still messed up. Then some nice person serving told they could combine them all on to one actual CBTL card and avoid the #punching. Mahalo! Service is terrible at this location. One girl had a lot of attitude when serving me. I ordered just a hot latte with 2 extra shots, watched her make it while SHE WAS TOUCHING HER HAIR, and when I got my latte it was not even lukewarm. I told her I wanted it more hot then she just grabbed my drink and threw it in the sink. It's been a minute since I've stopped by. I may be biased but i can't resist the caramel latte w/ an extra scoop of hazelnut powder, hot or cold. It don't matter, both are magical. It just hits the spot. Hubby's fave is the Malibu Dream which has blueberry but also has peanut butter. Keiki #1 also Licea the caramel latte w/ hazelnut. I also love love love the blueberry cream cheese scone. And yes get it heated if eating right away. If not eating right away just take it cold and be sure to heat it before eating, for sure. It's definitely worth a try. Another one of my faves is the avocado toast. They have peas shoots on them. It's hard to find these particular pea shoots in the store, so it's a treat. The Harding location in Market City shopping center has been my go to for the past five years. My other fave location is Kapolei then last but not least is the Pearl City location. I really like this Coffee Bean!!! First, it's pretty convenient...attached to Market City Foodland and ample parking in the Market City lot. Second, with the specials that run weekly and monthly, it is a great way to try their different drinks!!! This is the first place that I saw oat milk offered and was intrigued. The barista was patient enough to answer my questions and even gave me a small sample to try while I was waiting for my drinks. Most of the workers here are super efficient, consistent and friendly!!! Since I visit this location quite frequently I know how my drink will taste just by who is making them that day. I was SO hooked on the cookies and cream blended drinks - hold the whipped cream - for a bit and it's all because of the cashier here one day overheard me and my boyfriend talking about ice cream and suggested I try their drink. SO YUMMY!!! Of course, my favorite drinks from Coffee Bean still are a plain iced latte, mango cold brew tea or an English Breakfast tea hot or cold. There are clearly marked areas for you to wait either in line or for your drink. I've been in the store multiple times when people would walk in with their mask not fully on their face and before they can take 2 steps in a worker will remind them to please put their mask on correctly. Located in market city shopping center right inside of foodland. Parking is plentiful but it also depends what time of day you come too! If you're coming early in the morning then you're good to go! Other than that avoid peak hours in the afternoon and evenings ... let's just say from 12-7 cause it's just plain chaotic there in the parking lot! or just park really far and hike on over. The coffee here isn't as strong as Starbucks. I normally just come for the iced teas. My favorite is the plantation ice tea. There isn't too much of a line and If there is then it's not even that long of a wait. They're usually really apologetic if you even wait over a minute. Do you have social media? On Mondays they have a promotion if you show their ad on your phone! I've gotten 1.99 plantation ice teas, Li hing lemonades, and some other random flavors like blood orange tea. It's a good time to try something new when they have them. I particularly like their stamp cards. They have a expiration date but they never check it. The wait can be a little long due to sometimes not enough staffing if they have a lot of orders to do. But they're always apologetic when the customer has to wait for so long. I highly recommend this location if you're ever in the neighborhood. They never messed up my orders, and are always very friendly too. read more

My favorite hot beverage is the hot English breakfast latte. I think their secret ingredient is their vanilla powder which adds flavor & some sweetness. Lots of baked goods & sandwiches available too. As others have mentioned, parking at Market City can sometimes be very challenging (due to lack of available spots & inconsiderate drivers).
