Top to bottom: Strawberry Shortcake (requested fruits separate), Chocolate Cake, & Rainbow Cake. Cake decorations done by fam.

Kulu Kulu has always been one of my family's favorite places for cakes because their cakes are consistently moist, delicious, and not overly sweet. We used to go to the Royal Hawaiian location until it closed down. Recently, we ordered a strawberry shortcake, a chocolate cake, and a rainbow cake for my grandma's birthday celebration. Everyone at the party enjoyed the cakes a lot, especially the strawberry shortcake. It was our first time trying cakes from this location, and I'm glad that the cake quality is as good as the Royal Hawaiian location. The staff were friendly, especially Chris who was very kind and helpful throughout our ordering process for the above order. Thank you so much Chris and your staff for making my grandma's birthday celebration extra special.

Jamie W and I have stayed at the Prince Waikīkī three times, so we've gotten to know the immediate neighborhood pretty well. One of our favorite dives is Suzie Wong's Hideaway, and after downing a couple of tropical libations, we strolled back to the hotel and couldn't help but stop at this Japanese-style bakery. It was quite inviting and reminded me of the multiple bakeries you'd find in Ginza. All my favorites were on display - strawberry shortcake, custard cream puffs, lilikoi tarts, seasonal roll cakes, even coconut macadamia nut eclairs - though keep in mind we were kinda snockered, so we could've wolfed down everything. Common sense finally ruled, and we decided to split a slice of the $6.50 Ube Cake (Photo 7). Back in our room, we devoured it in seconds. Delish. FOOD - 4 stars...everything's better with ube AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...they let their goodies do the talking SERVICE - 4 stars...polite TOTAL - 4 stars...take me back to Ginza RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Chocolate cake, cheesecake, cream puff
    Ann C.

Have tried Kulu Kulu several times through friends but this was my first time going to a store. It was cute and the staff helping were polite and fast. I tried the Noble Chocolate cake, the double cream puff, and the souffle cheesecake. The chocolate cake was one of my favorites! Not too sweet, rich chocolate flavor, with interesting layers and textures. A must try for chocolate lovers. The souffle cheesecake was perfect also, not too sweet, super light, with excellent cheesy flavor. I gave the cream puff away to a friend but she told me it was delicious. Overall 5/5. Prices are typical for Waikiki and the pastries are delicious!

Called early to order a naked Strawberry cake - still lots of cream but not on the side - delicious as always! Ordered a croisaant for a snack - reheated it and it was layers of flaky goodness -

Strawberry Tiramisu, Baked Cheese Bar, Tokyo Cake
    Jordan F.

I ordered these desserts on UberEats. But I am a long time customer of Kulukulu and thought it deserved a review on my recent dessert experience. Tokyo Cake: Fluffy cake. Soft whipped cream. Wished there was more whip cream. And a strawberry coated in sugar it seems. Baked Cheese Bar: Hands down, could eat 5 of these one after the other. It's not too sweet and evenly seasoned with salt is how I can describe. Inside is soft. Almost a cake but moist enough to know it's not. So good. Strawberry Tiramisu: Love how this rendition of tiramisu. It tastes like strawberry dessert is all I cake say lol. I enjoyed the little chocolate flower. Don't chomp down too hard on the tiny pearl sugar candy. I recommend this place if you need to satisfy a sweet tooth. Over the years I've tried many of their desserts. Never disappoints. I believe these were seasonal but that just means I need to come every season to not miss out. I love reminiscing about these desserts! Lastly I'd advise to pick up the desserts in person as it's more affordable without the fees from UberEats. This time I just couldn't get myself up to drive lol.

    Tropical rare cheesecake
    Ann T.

I originally wanted to order the pistachio cake but it was sold out so I got the Tropical rare cheesecake instead. We enjoyed it very much because it has very good balance of sweet and sour flavours. It was very easy to pick up the cake from the Eaton Square location. The girl at the counter was very friendly and helpful. So I was in and out within a few minutes. It's a very cute shop. I definitely will go back to try their other desserts.

Cakes are always super good. Staff are always nice and accommodating. Store is always neat and well maintained. Though it's in waikiki so parking can be hard. but plenty of metered ones on the street. This is my go to bakeshop! Always get cakes here for birthdays. They can customize cake if you give them a call.

About a 1-1.5: kulu kulu is a small Japanese dessert shop that is located in Eaton Square; they also have a location as part of the Royal Hawaiian's food court. I picked up a couple of their seasonal items, as they looked super cute: +the Jack o' Lantern - a pumpkin cream puff +a Franken Stein - a matcha raspberry oreo Unfortunately, these were just not good. The puff itself was soggy, and there wasn't any pumpkin flavor in the cream; the consistency of the cream was also off, and not as fluffy and light as it was expected. The Franken Stein had a weird, goopy exterior, and there was hardly any raspberry filling; the matcha didn't taste good, almost bitter-like. They were both tossed. Service is friendly, and this place is more of a takeout type of a place. +off-tasting bakery items +friendly service

Best cheesecake!!! And they accomodated out special request of my daughters favorite character

Ever had a cake from Kulu Kulu? If not, you are missing out on one of the most delectable treats out there! Take a few steps down below sidewalk level on Hobron (near Food Pantry), and you're met with a sandwich board sign extolling feature treats inside! As charming as the drawings are, be prepared to be blown away when you see the actual product in the case! You can't help be mesmerized while making your selection. It's almost too pretty to eat. The bakery is small, uber clean, and staff very friendly. The single selections are special, but the cakes are wonderful - light as air with just the right sweetness. Take heed of the fine print on the box - keep refrigerated and eat within 24 hours. You'll definitely want to optimize your experience through this advice!

Custom Rainbow cake with strawberries and plumeria flowers.
    Monica T.

Amazing. I called and placed a custom order over the phone. The person I spoke was kind, patient and friendly to fulfill my order. The cake.... O M G! Amazing. When I say this cake was PERFECTION, that's an understatement. Delicious without being overly sweet. Moist beyond belief. Fluffy, cloud like layers of rainbow cake! Heavenly!

    So yummy!
    Peter N.

Everything that I've had from Kulu Kulu has been delicious. This chocolate Christmas cake was amazing! So creamy and delicious. Service is always fast and friendly. No line when I went. I always try to come to this older location because it's not as busy as the Royal Hawaiian Center location Thankfully, I have as much self control as I do or the cake would be gone. Delicious!

Then we ate it. And honestly, it was worth every penny. The ice cream was excellent. Kona coffee, ube, vanilla, chocolate chip cookie dough, strawberry, everything we tried worked. But the thing that made it special was the texture. The shaved/crushed peanuts, the macadamia, the way it all came together with the ice cream and crepe. Simple idea, but done right. Rich, crunchy, cold, soft, sweet and somehow not heavy. The service was the other surprise. The girls working that night were incredible. Warm, patient and genuinely sweet with my kids. They walked us through flavors, helped us figure out what to order and made the whole thing feel fun instead of transactional. My son loved watching the peanuts get shaved and the Super Smash Bros. setup was such a random, perfect touch. It gave the place personality. I came in thinking this was going to be overpriced dessert. I left thinking it was one of the best things we ate on the trip. Five stars. No notes. I'll absolutely be back.

The bigger the malasadas size the more airy and fluffy and more bread layers that will be inside. 2. their malasadas always taste fresh and the same quality each time. 3. their malasadas don't feel oily or heavy at all Overall I would highly recommend this place for their Malasadas! I'm so happy to have found them. I can back multiple times on my trip. They also have other desserts too that I have yet to try. They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. Standard generous portion for a bingsu location, notably generous for an Ala Moana location. The location itself was free of insects despite being on a ground floor location with sugary desserts everywhere. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.
