Their bingsu also never disappoints- My favorites are the green tea and the 5 grain flavors. The taro milk tea was really powdery and not smooth as Sweet Hut, as a reference. I went there for my first time two days ago. It was really awfully disappointing. I tried oolong milk tea and cheesecake. The milk tea was okay, but the cheesecake was awful. I ordered a slice of cheesecake, and the lady told me it's still icy because they froze it. She told me she could defrost it if I really wanted it, so she defrosted for me. When I had the first bite, it was still hard and icy. They defrosted the second time for me (I found out they used microwave to defrost it). My cheesecake became warm outside, but icy and hard inside. It also tasted old. I had no idea how many days they had kept the cheesecake for. It was light and airy with three scoops of neopolitan ice cream flavors of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. This dessert came garnished with fresh cut strawberries, bananas and some blueberries. 5/5 Korean sweet coffee had a strong coffee flavor with the right amount of sweetness. Best of all, they provide free wifi and offer various sweets and delicious coffee. This coffee shop is one of my favorites because they serve delicious shave ice (milk) dessert (mango is my favorite), and they also have ddukbokki. The mango shave ice is actually shaved milk which gives a more creamier texture than regular ice, and the mango option has mango powder in addition to some fresh mangoes on top. This dessert goes really well with their ddukbokki, which is why they have a combo option on their menu for both shave ice and ddukbokki. I have had their super spicy ddukbokki and their regular spicy, and both levels are really good. If you're not a huge fan of spicy, I'm sure you could handle their mild/sweet option. Expect to wait 15-20min for an order of shave ice/ddukbokki. I really liked their chaga (mushroom) tea that they served when I first tried this place years ago, but every time I would order it after the first couple of times I visited, they were out, so I never ordered it again. This place is always busy on the weekend so it could be difficult to find a seat if you come after dinner time. The crowd at this place tends to be younger/college students usually doing homework or just hanging out, but there are also alot of families that come in as well (and maybe some couples out on a date). The decor of the inside is very well done for the chill and cozy vibe it has going for it. Most of the people that are seated here are all doing some type of work so it a source of encouragement if you ever feel like you're too tired to keep going. The coffee here is very good. I definitely recommend the Caramel Macchiato here, much better than the Starbucks version. They also have a large variety of desserts to accompany their many drink options. This is a fun little Korean cafe, you'll see if pretty busy in the evening on the weekend as students study here and even the aunties come to catch up over a cup of tea. If I think of an ideal coffee shop, this place would be it. It is so big and spacious but the biggest selling point is the semi-private rooms. They sectioned off open cubicles along one wall with comfortable chairs and very woodsy decor. I liked that they had a minimum limit of how many people can occupy the room so one person wouldn't be sitting there alone. This place is packed with students studying but there were a lot of other people that came in to socialize and enjoy their food/drink options. We ordered the bingsoo (with Misutgaruh) and the waffles with ice cream. Presentation was on point but the taste was there too. The waffles were crispy and the bingsoo had a fine ice texture with the right amount of toppings. Overall: I would definitely come here again. Just type in your phone number at the register. Internet is xfinity blast. Speed test shows 56 Mbps DL and 12 Mbps UL with a decent sized crowd on a weekend. Towards the end of the night the internet dropped a few times presumably because of the amount of people. One of the prettiest Korean coffee shops I've had had the pleasure of visiting. When I walked in me and my boyfriend (both first timers here) both said something to the effect of "Ooh, Ahhh, Wow". It's pretty darn beautiful and that's a FACT. The inside has romantic lighting all over the ceiling. There are separate "nooks" on the side with comfy leather chairs to study, chat, read. Everything was extremely comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing, and I'm a sucker for aesthetics. My coffee was not as strong as I'm used to drinking, but on the other hand I'm European and I'd inject espresso intravenously if I could. :) I can only speak on what I know and I did not try the desserts as we came from a lunch, but the arrangements of the pastries looked lovely, although a little limited. I met with a friend and she suggested Coffee by Hand. I rarely visit Coffee By Hand as I don't drink coffee and their other drinks and food items are overpriced. Food: This visit, I ordered a hot green tea latte as it was one of those random chilly nights in Atlanta. The latte wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it! It wasn't bitter (probably because it didn't taste like there was a whole bunch of matcha...) and there was a sweet nutmeg? flavor? I enjoy the green tea lattes at Starbucks and the ones I make at home with matcha powder, milk, and sugar -- but this definitely isn't similar. In past visits, I have tried the waffle -- delicious, pretty big portion, so enough for 2-4 people to share. I see a ton of people order ddukbokki and my brother has said it's good. Interior: Love the open layout with rooms on the side. Table are large and take up a ton of space (I usually only see 2-3 people per table so get there early). Rooms are available for large groups. A lot of people smoke outside and the smoke will travel to the seats closest to the doors. Other: There's a table/section next to the ordering counter dedicated for trash and plates -- so I'm not sure why some customers leave their trash on the tables. I love shaved ice, although I was bit disappointed that they didn't serve the traditional shaved ice but their snow was tasty. I ordered the green tea snow in a cup size for $5.99 (bit pricey) but it was good so I don't mind. Green tea snow had red beans, mochi (not as soft as I wanted to be), and condensed milk. It does get crowded and noisy though but that just shows how busy Coffee By Hand gets! Their teas are amazing and refreshing, personally I like the Plum Tea and the Matcha (you can customize it, I get 3 pumps of chai) and I LOVE their snowflake! They have many different flavors but I enjoy the Strawberry the best (it's like shaved ice with condensed milk and strawberries on top). Also, if you want a quick snack to share, get the mini taiyakis! You can get either 6 or 12 and fill it with custard, Nutella, or red bean, or get an assortment of all of them if you want. I really enjoy coming here because of the ambiance and the cute interior. Unlike Sweet Hut and other coffee/bubble tea shops nearby, it is quiet here. If you want to take your date here after dinner or just want to have a nice, quiet conversation with friends, this is the place to go. Usually, I come here at night after dinner to get some latte or chamomile tea. The reason I took off one star was for the lack of dessert selection. I know they have various flavors of macarons and some ice cream desserts, but I guess I'm looking more for things like tiramisu, cheesecakes, etc. Food and drinks are okay and it can get a bit pricey, but for the atmosphere and the service I still give it a 4 star. Spring 2015 seems to be the year for new cafes popping up in the Duluth area (OTP.) In the past 2 months, I've been to 2 different cafes that have opened up in May. My friend Sari S. and I had just caught up over Korean food over at Jang Su Jang and she had recommended we check out this adorable coffee shop afterwards. It's definitely "cutesy" to say the least. We both liked the fact that there were private rooms off to the right of the café that is sectioned off from the main area. Their menu offers everything from hot and iced coffee drinks to smoothies. I gave their iced green tea latte a try. It was exactly what I expected. My drink was milk based which is not what I typically order but it satisfied my need for something ice cold and flavorful. It's not a sweet drink so if you're looking for something sweeter, they have plenty of other menu options. The café has plenty of comfy chairs and they offer free wifi. The staff during our first visit was a team of young Asian-Americans that were super friendly and courteous. This is pretty common at most Korean owned cafes in the Duluth area. I thought it was cute that they wore company polos. The café is located in the same shopping center as Snowflake Tea House and the restaurant, Thai Pad & Coco Sweets. A unique coffee shop with cute design, good coffee, and friendly staff. At a first glance, you might dismiss this hidden treasure as a typical Mozart like cafe. However, once entering, I was delighted by the unique design that felt cozy and chic. The layout is not entirely different from places like Mozart, but the little hints of differences makes Coffee by Hand a pleasant hidden hangout spot. What really did it for me were private rooms with couchs that made it as if the place is just for you and yout friends. Although the beverages and pastry is a bit pricy like all other asian cafes, the quality was quite good. The raisin cinnamon and the mit su ga ru beverage is a must try. Coffee is good but not entirely unique. The staff was the most impressive as they were more than willing to suggest the menu items which I quite enjoyed. After my second visit to The Coffee by Hand, I must say it has lost its' charm. This resulted in an updated review and 2 stars knocked off from 4 to a solid 2. I met a friend on a weekday around 9 a.m. for coffee and my experience was just frustrating. MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE MINI STORY Like my last visit, I came in with the mindset of ordering a pour-over coffee. Dark roast preferably. And that is exactly what I did. Unfortunately, the barista didn't know what I was talking about it. I proceeded to explain and pointed at the pour-over set up. It was very difficult to converse with her since there was clearly a language barrier. She looked confused and after a few minutes of circling our conversation; she got one of the pastry personnel to speak to me. He translated what she said and basically they've made a lot of changes since the store opened. I was told they DO NOT make pour-over/drip coffee alone anymore. They could only do it for Americanos and Lattes, which didn't make any sense and went over my head. The bakery personnel stepped away. It was back to the barista and I. So I just made it easier and ordered a cup of coffee. I also tried to order the Chipotle Sandwich advertised on their ScoutMob, but I was told they couldn't make it. The barista suggested a ham sandwich. I asked if that could be a ham and cheese sandwich, but the answer was "no". At that point, I was just #done. I just asked for a cup of coffee and the barista said that she'll make a drip coffee for me. Mindblown. SERVICE Very friendly and accommodating, but man, I honestly don't know what happened. If the name of the store is The Coffee by Hand, this place has lots to live up to after my experience.
