However, the staff didn't seem to put an effort into remembering my order or name ~ there was no personal touch like you'd expect from any neighborhood spot. Sadly, corporate Starbucks has done a better job at that from my experience. III. QUALITY Standard. This is a long wait for a review because I had come to this coffee place so much. I really just come because I love the Shaved Ice (Bingsu) and that's the only thing I eat here as you can see in my photos. The coffee house is pretty cozy, day or night... It has a very chill mood and the people come here to hang out or do some work. There is always ambient music playing, not overwhelmed... Just to give some mood, but if you want to hear your own music with headphones, it is not bad at all. You have areas with couches, stools, tables and then small more private rooms for 3 or 6 people. Holy wow. So we decided to pop in to get some coffee and ended up leaving in a sugar coma. The waffle is called the Full Set and it's a waffle topped with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry mochi ice cream, bananas, blueberries, and strawberries, and homemade whipped cream. Their bingsu is very delicious and worth trying. My friend brought me here since she enjoyed the bingsu she had last time. We got the Mango bingsu (medium size) with tteokbokki combo. The tteokbokki was okay but I really enjoyed the mango bingsu. The texture wasn't consistent throughout all the rice cakes, and the original flavor was more mild in spice than I thought. However the bingsu was creamy and kind of fluffy in a sense altogether, each bite had mango in it. I loved the texture of it. Even though we got the smallest portion, we couldn't finish it. Last time we had the strawberry bingsu and it was good as well, but for me the mango flavor was my favorite. I hope to try other things on their menu next time. read more

It was a little more on the coffee side, and less chocolate, but that's how I prefer it. My girlfriend on the other hand would prefer a more chocolatey iced mocha. We also ordered a MANGO BINGSOO. BOY OH BOY! This was DELIGHTFUL. The mango flavor was delicious and didn't taste artificial. There was plenty of syrup and sweetness to cover all the ice. AND THE ICE WAS SO SOFT AND PERFECT TEXTURE. It melted in your mouth just amazingly. The medium was plenty for 4 of us to share, but also I am interested to see how big the large size is. There are some more private seating areas. Music wasn't too loud, so it's definitely a study friendly area! Good variety of drinks available as well as food! Caramel latte: it didn't come out as hot as I would have liked. But taste wise it was good! Not too sweet. I wish there was a latte art. I used to come here a good bit and noticed the place continues to stay popular and busy which is great. I like their late night hours for Asian cafe options in the area. Staff is friendly. They have a pretty extensive drink (coffee, tea, bubble tea, etc) menu. Their drinks are overall pretty good. Steer clear of the bubble tea. Probably better to order this at a bubble tea shop. They make good coffee/Americano and love their Asian/korean teas they have on the menu. I also like how they serve some Korean snack options like dduhkbokki. They also have some Korean desserts like snow bingsoo and Korean fish shaped bread filled with red bean or custard. Place is pretty spacious and has a ton of seating. One suggestion I would have to the staff is to make sure the place continues to stay tidy and clean through the day/night. I love the private rooms/sectioned off areas they have to offer but one of the rooms we were in did not feel very clean. Chairs, although comfy, were pretty run down looking and against the wall there was some coffee spill on the floor and against the bottom part of the wall. I have always enjoyed visiting Coffee by Hand, whether it be for desserts, to study or just to hang out. The area is spacious and they open later than most cafes. The menu selection is wide; however, I will admit the taste is not out-of-this-world good. There are some menu items that make me question the price and the quality. I will say, however, the spicy rice cakes, watermelonade and chai milk has always been solid for me. I really like their croffles as well. It's a great hangout spot, and it's a great study spot. I don't know how but it really became like central meet-up hub for Duluth. It always somehow manages to stay consistently busy. Stopped by after dinner for some deserts with friends. The place has a very cozy cafe atmosphere and I could totally see myself spending hours here chatting or studying with people. You just order at the counter, they give you a tag, and you go up to collect your order once the tag vibrates. They have a selection of cakes and pastries as well as a bunch of different coffee choices and their bingsoo flavors. We tried the strawberry bingsoo and the chocolate chip cheesecake. Be careful about what size you order for the bingsoo as we were not expecting it to be this huge, not that it's a bad thing, great value for what you're paying. What I loved about the bingsoo is that they layered the cream and strawberry flavoring into the ice. Some other places just have the flavoring on top of the ice and once you get towards the middle you're just eating flavorless ice but that is not a problem at all here. Definitely would recommend! The cheesecake was average so not much to write about it. Definitely will return the next time I'm in the area. read more

This is always one of my favorite spots to go to when I want to grab a small coffee or just a place to study. It does get pretty crowded, especially on the weekends, right after lunchtime. If you're looking for a spot with a plug, good luck. Service is always really good, as with most of your standard Korean bakeries. They do have a good selection of small desserts, and baked goods that you can get. My favorite thing to get there is the custard filled fish shaped pastry, similar to a taiyaki. It never comes out burnt, it always comes out hot. The one thing I would say, is that if you're choosing this place to study, it does get pretty loud in there. Was wanting some bingsu and stopped by here on a Saturday morning. Got the snowflake & tteokbokki (Spicy rice Cakes) combo. Started with the strawberry base bingsu and added mango, banana and red bean paste and it was amazing. Definitely hit the spot. Each add-on is an extra $1 but definitely worth it to get exactly the bingsu you want. Treat yourself! We opted for the 'spicy' option on the rice cakes and man they were really awesome as well. This is the third place in the area where I've tried spicy rice cakes and these finally made me understand why so many people get them. Not hard and overly chewy like some of the places. These were light and amazing, like they should be, with a great flavor. Had the watermelonade which was also pretty nice if you really love watermelon. :) Daughter had a strawberry boba I believe. The plaza that this cafe is in has a lot of parking available. When I walked into the cafe, it was lively with lots of private rooms, tables in the middle as well as comfortable chairs on the left with partitions up to give more privacy. I got the red bean bingsoo (snow flake) which was large and flavorful. I also got the fish bread, all three flavors (nutella, custard, red bean). The bread was tasty and I personally like the nutella flavor the best. read more

This is a decent cafe. I give about 3.5 stars but I rounded up because I love their bingsu. They have several flavors, such strawberry, green tea, 5 grain, mango, etc. The shaved ice is actually milk so it's creamier than other standard bingsus. However, I don't recommend here for coffee and other drinks, as well as baked goods. For good quality coffee drinks, I'd recommend other nearby coffee shops like Orange. For baked goods, there is Tree Story, White Windmill, Sweet Hut, and so many more. Other than their bingsus, everything is pretty subpar. I haven't tried their ddukbokki yet but I've heard good things so I definitely want to try sometime. A big plus about this cafe is that it has a big seating area and different kinds of seating to accommodate many people and what they need, whether it be to study, meet in groups, etc. Service is a hit or miss but overall I've had a pleasant experience. read more

This place is a good place to come when you are in Duluth area looking for desserts. I come to get milk based shaved ice ($9 for medium sized that will feed 2-3 people and $15 for large that will feed 4-5 people). As it is milk based, it tastes softer than water based shaved ice! Their Dduk bbok gi is also pretty good! I would pick their Dduk bbok gi as one of the best around this area. You can pick spicy level, so anyone can try even though you can't handle spicy. If you get Dduk bbok gi with shaved ice, you will get both spicy and sweet in one sitting. One thing to keep in mind is that there are limited seating (because this place is so packed!!). So if you come with a large group during busy hours, you might not be able to find seating for the whole group. I recommend their Dduk bbok gi & shaved ice combo ($15 ish). :) read more
