I'm personally a "coffee person". So for me to recommend that you go to the Starbucks next door, hurts. The owner of this place has no respect for customers. Aside from charging a different price, he has no problem giving you something different and telling you it's what you ordered. I ordered a decaf Americano and actually watched him go to the coffee dispenser and fill the cup halfway with regular, warm coffee and top the rest off with water. He's the worst kind of business owner. I'd give no stars if possible. They've got some nice outdoor seating that the previous owner put it. Good place to to sit with your Starbucks. read more

The coffee has nice flavor, but they need to keep the urn hotter-the cups I've had were below what I prefer temperature wise. The township parking lot is nearby, and you can often score a spot on Essex Street. (Note that street metered spots have a button that gets you ten free minutes, enough to run in and out). read more

What a great place! Right in downtown Millburn with seating in the front and back. I had the nitro cold brew and my husband tried the French vanilla pour over. It takes a few minutes to make but so worth it. They also serve some pastries and cookies. Give it a try - don't succumb to the Starbucks on the corner - support local merchants! read more

One of the rudest, inhumane business owners I have met in my life. Picture this: almost 8pm on a Sunday, not much time left until the coffee shop closes. The tables on the public outside space "claimed" by Coffee Mill Roasters are completely empty. No customers AT ALL. I sit down to have a quick bite, clearly not bothering anyone. The owner comes out quickly, reprimanding me for using a table. I say fine, and move away to a bench. 5 minutes later, two young girls also sit down at a table to eat as well (again, ALL 7-8 table claimed by the Coffee dictator are empty). Of course, the little man again comes out flying like a hawk and shoos the girls away so that they cannot enjoy their bite. How can a great community like Millburn/Short Hills tolerate such inhumane behavior is beyond me. The world should be about compassion and tolerance, not a small angry owner protecting public space for himself just out of a jealous principle. I would never recommend this place and encourage people to stay away from it until the owner starts acting like a human being. read more

I stopped by here this past Saturday (6/12) to grab a coffee before running some errands. This was my first time at Coffee Mill Roasters. Ordered a cappuccino and a cold brew, along with a slice of the spinach and feta pie. The pie was AMAZING--warm, savory and rich. The coffee, however? Both were icky, and certainly not worth the $4 I paid for each. The cold brew was (somehow) both sour and bitter, and it wasn't because of add-ins because I got it black. The cappuccino was scalding hot and I burnt my tongue. Once it was cool enough to actually taste, the coffee also somehow tasted bitter and sour. It was particularly odd, because the milk foam was normal, but the liquid below was not drinkable. Really disappointed in this experience. I contemplated going back for a refund or a new drink, but the single cashier/barista was working alone and there were a few people on line/waiting for service. I also felt bad--it could be that the barista was poorly trained, and didn't know how to properly extract the espresso? But that wouldn't explain the icky cold brew. Either way, I'm sad to be leaving such a poor review. I may pop in for more spinach pie in the future, but I will not bother giving the drink menu a second chance. read more

The coffee mill roasters is a dependable neighborhood coffee shop. It's an intimate environment with specialty drinks and coffee to warm up with! The coffee is great and they have better baked goods than Starbucks. When you walk in you are greeted like an old friend and asked how you are doing. You are not rushed to make your order. They roast their own beans, take pride in the quality and process and always offer two brewed options: medium and dark blends. Some of the time the medium blend is organic, a real plus for those who know how coffee plants are grown and beans are processed! The owner is hands on, always greets you with a warm hello and huge smile and the service alone will bring you back again and again. The cafe au lait is perfection in a cup. The Balthazar pastry offerings are a bonus. They provide spoons (not stirrers) at the coffee bar for folks to fix their drinks to their liking-a nice touch for environmentally friendly types. The few tables on the street provide some seats for those who want to savor their coffee concoctions but the real charm is the courtyard out back which boasts several tables with umbrellas adjacent to the fountain. Sure why not I said Friends wanted to try the Baklava and Katiafi... Sure why not... I got a Med West lavender latte for 5.25 +tax... watered down but ok whatever...Starbuck charged similar. I didn't blow a gasket until I saw how much I was charged for the sweets $3.95+ tax for each piece.... Now I know your're thinking "it's not that bad. Average price for delicious pastries" The Baklava was smaller than the Hi-chew ... about an inch. Yes- that's what she said. AN INCH!! Anyway... my total for 3 Baklava, 3 Katiafi and a medium watered down latte was $27.67. See the photos if you don't believe me. Best place for coffee in Millburn, and perhaps a 25 mile radius around Millburn. We always buy our coffee from here to brew at home. Seriously love this place. It's a stone's throw away from Starbucks so don't waste your time there and walk the extra 20 steps to the Coffee Mill Roasters. Their coffee is was better, it's not as crazy, and they have a nice little courtyard behind it to sit and enjoy your drink. Living near Morristown we drive the 15 minutes to get a good cup of coffee, stock up on home brew, and then hit the wine library on the way home which has an awesome selection. What a pleasant place to enjoy unique coffee/non-coffee beverages and treats! The owner is a friendly Egyptian man, it sounds like his wife has a big role in the pastries/treats. Thoughtful, inviting decor, fair prices, plenty of options, clean. Would be a great place to read for a bit. Sunny location with outdoor seating in the front and the back. Great for people watching or glancing at the TV at the front. I tried one of their bottled sodas (coffee cherry flavor, I've never seen it before), a brownie, and a custard dessert with "shredded dough" sprinkled over it. I walked in on a calm Friday morning and was greeted right away by the awesome staff! I quickly skimmed the menu but already had in mind what I wanted. I got a pour over coffee which, took about 7 minutes to make, but I wasn't in a rush and it was worth the wait. It was delicious! I also purchased a bag of beans (Ethiopian Yirgacheffee) to brew at home with my aeropress. I'm glad I stumbled upon this cute little small batch coffee roaster. The staff, Elizabeth and Lenny, were very accommodating and friendly people. Great coffee, comfortable decor and the staff are like old friends the first time you return. I prefer the large porcelain cups that are pre-warmed for a coffee to stay. Everything they serve is excellent and the prices are very fair too. The Brazil/Guatemala blend coffee is especially smooth and flavorful too. The owner and employees are very good people and know how to treat customers just right. Nice quiet easy-vibe setting with good acoustics and nice music selections (70s rock, etc). Also, the decor and feel is modern and clean, unlike some other independent cafes. It's bright but still cozy. They have for-here (ceramic) cups (unlike Starbucks down the block), which is nice for preserving the temperature and flavor of their high-quality coffee. Stopped in for the first time and ordered a large light roast advertised at 2.99. I was told the light roast was a special blend and would be 5.95, I agreed because I didn't want a dark roast. Such a lovely, little coffee shop in downtown Millburn. I was looking for a place to grab coffee and do some work in between meetings on a business trip and I stumbled upon Coffee Mill. GREAT coffee and their pastries are amazing as well. There's a great selection of beverages and their coffee is pretty top notch. The space is relatively small, but there are a few tables and chairs and the interior is nice and cozy (who doesn't love an exposed brick wall?). The owner and baristas are also so lovely. It also seemed like there were quite a few regulars and the owner seemed to know them all by name (and coffee order!). This is my go to coffee place. I probably spend too much on coffee, but everyone has an addiction I guess and mines coffee lol! I'm here usually at least 2 times a week. Their coffee is amazing, one of the best cups of coffee I've had and definitely the best in town. I always get an iced coffee with caramel since that's my go to, but their lattes and regular hot coffee are also great. You can see they roast their beans fresh.
