Great service and great buffet. Will definitely eat hear again. We came across by accident but glad we tried.

We were hungry and driving through town when we came upon this place. There were a lot of cars in the parking--usually signaling a good restaurant. We were unfortunately disappointed. We ordered nephew chicken that came with two sides. My daughter wasn't very hungry, so I ordered a baked potato and mashed potatoes as our sides. We didn't want the buffet as it appeared to be there for hours. We were served cornbread muffins which would have tasted good had they not been burnt. While we were waiting for our meal, the waitress went to buffet and spooned mashed potatoes into 2 bowls. These were the mashed potatoes we were served. The mashed potatoes were cold and flavorless. I was afraid to eat them and worried about temperatures of the rest of the buffet since they were cold. The chicken was good, but I didn't have a side to eat it with. I told the waitress about the cold potatoes, and she didn't say anything. The meal came with dessert cake and ice cream. We waited about 15 minutes after finishing our meal for the waitress to come back, but she was busy filling multiple to-go boxes with buffet food. When she finally came around, we asked for the cake to go since we had a train to catch. She said she would have to charge us for the cake since we were taking it. I then asked to be reimbursed. She said she would ask the manager whom I never saw. We had to leave due catching a train so we just put the amount of meal on the table and left. If you see this place while driving through town just pass it by unless you like cold mushy buffet food. read more

I try not to call a business out but this was unacceptable. My dad's uncle drove over 6 hours to visit and we had breakfast at The Coffee Shop in McGregor. There were 12 of us eating and as the last person was finishing their meal, Donald Citrano comes up to our table and asks very loudly how much longer we were going to be. He said he has a table of 16 who has been waiting for 20 minutes and are threatening to leave if they're not seated soon. Mind you, we had taken my dad out of the nursing home to come for breakfast and him and his uncle were having a great time catching up. I told Donald when we were on our way out the door about my dad and his uncle and he gave a half ass apology and said he was about to lose a table. We spent very good money there and left a great tip. They will never get another dime from us. read more

I live in McGregor so we come here a lot. We just walked out to drive into Waco for breakfast and here is why. We walked in and was seated. My husband goes to the breakfast buffet (since it's 10:55 now and we are halfway to Waco I'm going to guess it was about 10:40-50 ish) and goes to make a plate. An older adult man turned the lights off on him and told him "you can still make your plate". They took all the spoons so there was no way to make a plate. When my husband asked about it the guy slammed them down. "Well we made the announcement". I'm sorry but we had just walked in the door and did not witness it! We won't be back. Drive 30 miles to get to this restaurant expecting a good BBQ buffet. Waited inside till that food was available got ribs and mashed potatoes, my wife got smoked chicken breast. I had to use a knife to get the meat off the ribs and even after that you had to saw at it to cut the meat it was so tough, and that was with a knife durable to cut meat. My wife's chicken was also so dried out, tough it was hard to cut and a job to chew. I mentioned it to the waitress who said she'd pass it along but nobody showed up. The longer I thought about it after getting home the angrier I got so I called and asked for the manager or owner, told them my story and I got another "I'll pass it along" click. So we drove 60 miles, paid $35.00, a premium for the BBQ buffet that wasn't edible and the best they care about their customers was "Ill pass it along". Guess how soon I'll take that chance again? A very old school feel and taste. Had the breakfast buffet special and loved the selection. Waitress was very friendly and provided great service. I always drive by to a full parking lot and know why. Will be back soon and would definitely recommend to others. read more

Great home-made country/Texas cooking. We come here a lot and enjoy it every time. This used to be a hangout for President Bush's support staff when he was in Crawford, and there are lots of interesting pictures of historic VIP's and him eating at the restaurant. read more

Roommate and I had heard how good the food here is, so we went on a Friday. No complaints from either of us- we were stuffed. We enjoyed the chicken fried steak, fried fish, ribs, and lots of sides (my favorite were Lima beans). I don't think there was a single item that wasn't good. OMG I think I'm going back today!!! I was invited to lunch and they couldn't stop talking about the burger they had here and I see why. When I read that it was on a jalapeño bun I almost asked them to substitute for a regular bun. So GLAD I didn't, it is amazing. The burger is quite large, usually I would only eat half and save the other half for later but I could not stop eating it. I loved their sweet potato fries too. We do not get to Central Texas often, but when we do, we always eat at The Coffee Shop. We enjoy the homey atmosphere. Also, you know you have found a gem when you see the locals dining in a restaurant. There are always locals enjoying their dinners. We have ordered off the menu and eaten from the buffet. We have picky eaters in our family, and everyone enjoys what they eat. We have also eaten everything from breakfast to dinner items. We have enjoyed it all. The menu definitely has something for everyone. The buffet is extremely good and always hot and fresh. The other thing you have to order is one of the fabulous desserts. You will not get a better piece of pie anywhere. The meringue is a mile high and very good! The Coffee Shop reminds you of a great Sunday afternoon dinner. read more

I was seriously stuffed after leaving Coffee Shop Cafe, and I didn't even eat from the lunch buffet! I was a little disappointed that the weekend breakfast buffet only goes to 10:30 AM, since I enjoy sleeping in on weekends. But the food was so good, I'm willing to wake up a little early to catch that $6.99 breakfast buffet! I ordered the traditional breakfast plate that includes 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 pieces of either sausage/bacon/ham (I got the sausage). Returned recently for the first time in a few years. From what I could see, the food looked good on the buffet, but then I made the mistake of looking down at the floor. It was so ingrained with stains that I had to walk out without eating. I've enjoyed Coffee Shop a number of times over the years and would like to do so again, but it would be much easier to do so if the floor/carpet was clean. I realize this may not say anything regarding the quality of the food, but for me it's difficult to separate the cleanliness, or lack thereof, with the overall eating out experience. read more

Drove up from Belton to check it out. Has the Ribeye and it was the most tender steak I have eaten around here. The menu is full of good items and there were many customers there eating. The wife had the soup and half club and she loved both! The total bill cost was $21.95 very reasonable and I will be putting that place on my fav list to visit! read more

One of my parents favorite places to have breakfast. Drove down from DFW (2hrs) to surprise him for Father's day. Got there maybe 20min early, but everyone is so friendly. Spoke to a lovely couple at the next table and told them why I was there and we shared family stories. Small town feel, texas size portions, tiny prices. Love going there when I am in town. Waitresses are always attentive and know when to show up. Stop in for a great home cooked meal and a cup of Joe. Relax and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

We have tried this place 3 times now and three strikes and your out. I'm so disappointed. It's practically across the street from were we just bought our house. We really had high hopes but have been not just a little, but going home and vomiting bad. The buffet is absolutely disgusting. I am positive the salad dressing I had was not bleu cheese but rancid old ranch dressing. The burgers were burnt beyond recognition and the shrimp , well I'm not even sure it always actually shrimp. I always believe in giving another chance, but we have tried it 3 times now and each time at least one person from my family has gotten sick every time. We will not be back !!!! Will the health inspector please come and pay this place a visit. I am pretty dang sure it's not up to code. read more

If you are going to Donald Citrano's Coffe cup cafe for a to go order make sure you check it before you leave. I ordered a shrimp dinner and a hamburger steak dinner and got home with two rat nasty buffalo chicken strip dinners that were inedible. When I moved to McGregor this was my first place to eat! I'm so glad I did everything taste so good and is always fresh. I have to eat there about once I a weekl. If I could give negative stars, I would. This place has to ABSOLUTE WORST costumer service ever. I had a young waitress a few days ago. Long blonde hair, VERY rude. She would rather talk to her friends than assist me and my family. My coke had pretty much no ice. I was not offered rolls. I ask about the pies and she said they were frozen. She accidentally got something on her finger and just licked it off right in front of the table. On top of that, I stood at the front counter for about 10 minutes while the person was on the phone, not once looking up. I DO NOT recommend this place at all. They need new employees for sure. We like to ride the motorcycle to eat lunch in places within a 60 mile radius of our home. I had seen that this place was ranked by Texas Monthly as one of the best small town cafés and we will have to agree. I think our waitress was new though, because she wasn't able to answer some of our questions. We both got chicken fried steak plate (I got one meat and hubby got two) which came with two sides. We both chose a trip to the salad bar and mashed potatoes (and these were the real deal). Gravy came on the side in a bowl for dipping and so the CFS could stay crunchy. The salad bar was nice and had good & thick blue cheese. I also had some broccoli salad with big pieces of bacon and some kind of corn meal salad thing that was sweet and tasty. Neither of us finished our meal because we wanted to save room for dessert. The meal also comes with the dessert of the day (some kind of brownie today) but we wanted HOMEMADE PIE! Hubby wanted peach, but they did not have that flavor today so he got buttermilk. He said is was okay but not great. I got the coconut meringue which was AWESOME. I am gonna dream about that pie. It was sweet (that is how I like mine) and the meringue melted in your mouth. I usually don't eat the meringue because it is usually all spongy with no flavor, but this was really good! And the crust was flaky and crispy. If we weren't on the motorcycle, I would have taken a whole pie home with me. We will be back! read more

I ate here the first time on Thursday. We went back today. The food is great---well at least the Chicken Fried Steak is, had it both times. Lots of vegetables to choose from and all with home-made taste. Today they had meringue pies, got the Coconut Meringue. It was wonderful although I must say the height of the meringue is a little over the top, could not eat it all. After seeing some of the other reviews I am thinking a trip some morning is in order to get their breakfast! read more
