Best cappuccino I've had in a LONG time. I almost forgot what they were supposed to taste like - before all the watered-down versions I've become accustomed to lately. I went there to do some work and was disappointed by their limited seating. They have about three two-seaters along one wall, a big table for six (if packed - where I ended up) and four two-seaters against the back wall that are smooched together (booth on one side, chairs on the other) along with some somewhat comfortable looking loungy chairs. Ok, maybe that sounds like a lot for this little spot (and it is little). Maybe they could do with one more big table vs the loungy chairs (where no one was sitting). read more

I have a new favorite coffee place! Went in to the coffee studio at the recommendation of a patient. I told him I love good coffee, and don't like it to be expensive AND burnt. Enter The Coffee Studio. No wait. .. I entered The Coffee Studio. I have not been one to hang out in coffee shops, don't speak the language, am NOT a coffee connisseaur, but I know what I like and I like the Coffee Studio. Just went in today for "coffee to go" man o man . . that's some good uhh . . .coffee. I was in the area and needed to get some work done so I made a pit stop to the Coffee Studio. I almost took my coffee to go since the place was PACKED on a Saturday morning. My first impression was that it has such a cozy environment and the seats are really comfy! I also appreciate that I'm not freezing my butt off like at most other coffee shops. The price of the drinks are a tad steep....$4 for a teeny cappuccino I could down in 5 seconds. However, both the coffee and the tea are on point. read more

This is my dream coffee shop and go-to place to get work done in Andersonville. It's a super subdued, relaxed atmosphere. And, seriously, whoever runs the music playlist has wonderful taste and is also really mindful about playing relaxing background music that doesn't interrupt work (The National, Beach House, Nick Drake, etc.). Some places aren't so good about that. The baristas are super friendly, down-to-earth people and the service is excellent. The bagels can't be beat and I love that they serve loose leaf tea. Pretty much everything about this place is perfect. Good energy, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and conducive for both solo work and coffee dates. I've officially been turned into a coffee drinker! Everyone who know me, knows that I'm not a coffee drinker. I drink coffee drinks but not actual coffee. The after taste is terrible and you still taste it hours after you actual drank it. YUK As you read from my previous review, I've tried the caramel latte. AMAZING! It's so smooth and rich. No after taste whatsoever. This is the type of coffee that you want to drink while enjoying a sunrise on a breezy spring day. It takes you away. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday grind. Did I mention the staff is just as AMAZING! They must go through some rigorous training to become so skilled. I really didn't know what a barista was until I tasted the coffee at the Coffee studio. Every time I enter this place, it seems as if I stopped at a friend's house to have some amazing coffee and great conservation. Thanks Andy, Lauren and the rest of the staff! I really like the design of this shop! After a delicious meal at m.henry, we trekked over to The Coffee Studio. The interior is fantastic, with all the natural light coming in from the upper windows, and I really liked the modern twist and minimalist aesthetic. I ordered a cortado while my friends picked up a.. (lavender?) tea and chai latte. My cortado was as expected - smooth and strong. The tea came in a cute pour-over container and was pretty good as well; however, what really set me back was the chai latte. It was too sweet! I'm really not sure what happened but it was overly sweetened with something and tasted like something you would buy from a general supermarket. I'm going to step out and say this was an accident.. but overall this would be a great place to spend some time catching up with friends or doing some work in Andersonville. read more

The coffee here is first rate. The seating is well designed and comfortable. Plugs for charging are accessible. Bathrooms spacious and clean. Why, then, only 3 stars? The wifi set-up at Coffee Studio is stingy, retrograde, disruptive, and annoying. To log on you need a code that is good for one hour at a time. While the baristas will happily give you more than one wifi code, it still means your connection gets interrupted on the hour. I hate this. It's backwards. These days, drinking coffee and using wifi go hand-in-hand. The Coffee Studio is almost a perfect coffee shop. In 1994 their misguided approach to wifi would have been acceptable. Internet was expensive back then and businesses weren't quite sure how to handle it. But this is 2012, and The Coffee Studio needs to adapt. One last point: I'm pretty sure that their wifi decision-making is not a matter of managing limited bandwidth. If this were so, they would block torrent sites like New Wave in Logan Square does, but they do not. This suggests to me that the Coffee Studio folks are just behind the times on this issue. read more

I trudged in here on one of the coldest days of the year, and I'm glad I did! My medium vanilla latte went down nice and smooth, it was very tasty. It was served in one of those coffee cups that is actually more akin to a bowl with a handle, so you get a lot of coffee. It's not a huge space, but there's adequate seating if you want a table, a comfy chair, or a seat at the bar. I was there around 5ish, and it was nice and quiet. Is there anything better than a good book and a hot latte when it's freezing outside? read more

This place is cozy and intimate. But maybe that's just a nice way of saying "small". Such accommodations mean nothing when they pull some of the best espresso I've had in a while. I ordered my usual, an Americano, and sat at one of the wooden tables, placed dangerously close to one another. A guy sat on my left, a girl on my right. We were all working, but I felt like they were part of my clan... kind of an "unemployed people making the best of it" circle. We joked about it. The people there are pretty friendly. The Americano was almost perfect. It retained that sweet and smoky flavor, and didn't leave a bad aftertaste like the espresso at a lot of those other places do. I was tempted to try some of the snacks. A small display case along the counter pimped out some of the cupcakes, which looked really good, but i chickened out, afraid I was going to spoil my dinner. I was excited that they had Grown Up Soda, too. The internet is free with purchase, unfortunately the cards only provide one hour, so I found myself loading up on coffee and Grown Up Soda so I could get a little work done. I'm not feeling this place. I think I've sat down in here three or four times and I never feel comfortable. This place has beautiful ultramodern design. Exposed brick walls, wood tables and comfy lounge chairs. The lighting is right, critical for me. The music is not distracting. Ambient noise is just fine. I just cannot "feel" comfortable here. Very pretentious atmosphere. I almost don't belong here. Is it in MY head? I'm here now and I've waited a few years to write this review, but I still feel it. I don't like getting up every hour for a new internet code. The coffee is actually awesome, so paying for refills on drip is totally worth it. No one has looked at me weird, or said anything to me. I just don't get that "friendly neighborhood joint" vibe that when you feel it, it feels good. The staff was fine. The quality of the coffee is pretty sick, so by all means try it, even try it twice or three times like I did. I just don't like being in here, so I'm not gonna recommend it to friends. read more

By and far the most modern designed coffee shop I've seen....period. Clean lines, nice modern decor....it is hip, to say the least....I don't think I saw one PC computer in the place....only Apples *evil grin*....so it must be completely hip?! *wink* Seriously, nice selection of coffees and teas and food it also available. Excellent selection of seating from class room style to lounge chairs in the back. Organic foods make this a great place to stay green in your daily consumption habits. WiFi is also available, though I cannot comment on the quality of it at this time. A Latte medium size was served in a huge cup and a great deal! The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that they have no lemon juice nor lemon slices, yet sell no less than 4 types of English teas, which proper english tea is 2 sugars and a lemon which is the way I drink it, so a ding on them. read more

Only one hour of wifi?! Um, guys, do you realize that there are coffee houses less than a 5 minute walk from this place that have no time limit on the wifi? I can't think of a single other coffee house that I have ever been in in my entire life with such a silly little rule. Why the heck would you put a limit on that? It just made me leave, it didn't make me get another cup. I MIGHT have stayed if the staff had, like, smiled or been a tad friendly. I don't need a hug, but basic communication without overt hostility would have been nice. I won't be back. The Coffee Studio is arguably one of the most "hipster"/stylish coffee houses on the north side of the city: Eames chairs, Herman Miller lighting, beautiful walnut and natural woods, and even showcases wonderful art for sale on its walls. This is freaking great in my book! I live right around the corner from here and I'd expect this in Bucktown or Logan Square before the decidedly more unstylish Andersonville neighborhood. It's a perfect place to meet a friend for a coffee, and in the warmer weather, there's a beautiful patio outside. Now, what makes this place killer? The actual product(s) they serve! The coffee is Chicago's own Intelligentsia and the lattes are SUPERB. House-made vanilla syrup, excellent caramel, and they really know how to make a perfect latte. It's the best! They also have fantastic scones, cookies, and they even recently started carrying Glazed & Confused donuts, which are the best in the city....score! They also have great small plate options and even wine and craft beers in the later hours of the day, but I've always just gotten their perfect lattes. Coffee Studio is a gem on the north side! This place is super cute! There are banquettes, two-top tables, outdoor seating, a community table, and comfy chairs as far as seating options go. You can buy coffee and tea products, coffee beans, doughnuts, sandwiches, lattes, etc. The baristas greet you with a smile and a warm welcome. They're quick and efficient. I've been once before to redeem a popular pays for a free cold brew. It was really good. Strong flavor, like all good cold brews are. Pretty straight forward. This time, I got a 12oz (you can get that or 16oz) iced sugar free vanilla skim latte - judge my order. Do it. Please. ;) I chatted with the male barista while he made my drink. Super nice guy. I love when baristas are friendly and will chat with you. The drink tasted pretty good! Not too sweet. I'm giving this place 5 stars because of the ambience and the service. My favorite coffee shop in a city filled with coffee shops! They serve Intelligentsia coffee and espresso, so you know it's good. I believe they use all organic ingredients. Just try an espresso drink and you'll be hooked. you'll never go back to Starbucks again. It's a rich, robust taste. YOu can actually taste the espresso over the sugar. So good! The coffee is really strong, so watch out. It's a real eye opener. The ice coffee is not so great. It's really strong, so it tends to be hard to drink. The decor is great. very modern, yet comfortable. Free wi-fi too! The staff is always very friendly. It's a little on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. read more

I love writing at this place early on weekend mornings. The vibe is great, the people who work here are super nice, and the music is usually awesome...jazzy electronica perfect for generating a good word count, having conversations, etc. On Valentine's Day morning, not so much. The speakers kept going in and out and the usual chill tunes were replaced by bangin' techno that you nearly had to scream over in order to have any kind of conversation. This place and everyone in it will judge you! Starting with the two baristas, who stare at you and make you feel like you are doing something wrong just by walking in the door. They are not friendly at all. Then people who go here don't want to be disturbed and want to take up the biggest tables for their laptops. They will stare at you awkwardly over the top of their screens when you try and have a quiet conversation. If I wanted to pay money to be judged by people there are a million other places I would rather go to for that. The only reason for two stars is because the main reason to come here is for the coffee and the coffee/drinks are great. read more

I've been on a coffee house kick lately so I'm glad I had the chance to stop by The Coffee Studio. I'm usually a straight up drip coffee drinker and the occasional sweet so that is what I base my cafe reviews on. So, let's start with the place itself. It is very nice and modern looking which I like and the staff seems very nice and helpful. I like the patio area but more so because it gives you a chance to find a place to sit when they are busy. So that would be my only gripe, I just would hate to walk up and find no spots to enjoy my coffee and usual paperback. With that being said, I do like the place and the coffee was very good. I will be back to try some other varieties as I feel I need to break out of the straight up java mentality ... or maybe this place is becoming a bad influence on me! read more

I can't review much here but the tea and the atmosphere, but both are great. They have a nice tea selection: varied, interesting, and the cup I got was really great. Service was extremely friendly, and the atmosphere is exactly what I wanted from a coffee shop: quiet, but not hushed, clean and sleek decor, but not pretentious. Oh Em Gee. I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the best coffee house I've been to in Chicago. There are places with better food, and faster service, but I've never had anyone who makes coffee as well (and I like the Intelligensia shops, but not quite as much). They use Intelligensia beans, have plenty of comfortable seating, an hour of internet access with a purchase, and a nice big table if you need to chat it up with some friends or colleagues. I can't say enough nice things about the Studio. I can say that if you don't go there it means you want to drown kittens. read more

Let me begin by saying that there is only one reason this place doesn't get five stars, and that's the price. The coffee is OUTSTANDING. The staff is friendly. The seating is comfortable. There's a nice big table if you're feeling like sharing with other folks, or comfy soft seating if you want to snuggle into a book. There could be more seating, for sure, but I like that it doesn't feel cluttered. The only bad news is that a small Americano was three bucks! That's probably 25-50% more than it should cost. I'll add the caveat, though, that it was the best cup of coffee I've had in a long time if not ever. Plus it's open from the butt-crack of dawn until 9pm everyday. Four Stars read more

I've been jonesing to loiter in The Coffee Studio for some time, so with this snowy day blowing and my Christmas vacation still going strong, I strolled up Clark, snagged a table and prepared to settle in for a long, latte-sipping afternoon. But it was too cold in the Studio to stay longer than an hour. Boo. The latte, which I never order as I'm more of a black-eye type of gal (reviews won me over), was delicious and the barista made a beautiful, big, leaf in the foam. I also tried the cherry almond oatmeal which was so-so.... came out watery and with wayyyyyyy too many cherries (more is better?) I drank my drink, ate my oats and then packed up before I could accomplish anything because despite wearing two pairs of socks, thick jeans, a winter sweater and my wool hat, I still had a chill. If you're lucky enough to snag a table and the Scrabble board, you just might have the makings of a perfect afternoon in Andersonville. Sure, the clean, modern design of the Coffee Studio has a different appeal than my typical coffee shop preference for cozy spaces with well-worn vintage furniture. It takes itself a little more seriously. Fortunately, it takes its beverages seriously as well, and the baristas' meticulous creations are served in generously sized mugs that seem to invite lingering. There are, however, cafes that sell similar foods/treats and brews of Intelligentsia coffee for a more reasonable price in neighboring areas. I have to say I'm a coffee fiend. I not only love the stuff, i need it. I need it like a drowning man needs air. So when the Studio opened in my neighborhood it was like a caffeine crack den for sophisticated espresso lovers idled up next to me on the race track of sweet fixes. The taste of my Americano is sublime. Yes, it is Intelligentsia Black Cat and yes, you can acquire that elsewhere. However, the barristas focus on pulling their shots like painters checking for missed spots. They are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and good natured folks who care about getting the drink right. I love that. And they get it so very right. I agree with another comment here that it would be great if the owners had a greater presence with all the money we spend on our fancy coffee drinks. In fact, I was in this morning and saw that the joint will be open tomorrow for New Years Day. Good for me and I encouraged the folks behind the counter with "at least you'll go home with time and a half...!" Apparently, not so. That's lame. I walked in and thought "wait, am I in wicker park?" Then a stroller bumped into me and I realized I was in fact in Andersonville. This is not just your average coffee shop. They truly care about crafting delicious, quality drinks. Not only that, they stock some of the best pastries a coffee shop can offer. And they have doughnut vault doughnuts. OK, count me in! The atmosphere is nice and mellow, but does tend to attract a large group of table hoarders that turn their table into their home office. It's not "I brought my iMac to the coffee shop" bad, but it is a bit annoying that they tend to hog much of the seating there. Despite that, the coffee studio is by far my favorite place to sit, chat and grab a coffee. Plus it's in Andersonville! How can you beat that? read more

Alright, alright. I'm going to add another star. The place is still kinda small and it would be nice to see a more diverse menu, but that hasn't stopped me from coming here a bunch. Plus, there has been a lot more room lately, not sure what's up. Also, I must give them props for the smooth mocha. Chava and The Coffee Studio both have good mochas. Furthermore, I accidentally mispronounced some word on the menu, and the employee didn't even blink. I don't know what it is about Starbucks (a number of them), but I have been corrected numerous times for pronouncing the "a" in caramel. You can pronounce it either way, and I choose to not ignore the a--geez Starbucks. I also got laughed at at Metropolis for asking for a Cinnabun instead of a cinnamon roll. I love the coffee studio, and I love that I live around the corner from it. Their coffee is consistently great, and their food is delicious. My only desire is that they had more savory food as I'm definitely not a pastry person in the morning. Their mini quiches are great, but a tad overpriced for an every day snack. While this place seems to be a haven for every hipster on the North Side, the place is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and their products are delicious. I love getting my morning coffee from there, and my only complaint is that sometimes the line is too long. The only thing that keeps me away from the Coffee Studio is how busy it gets. I love sitting and writing while I drink my espresso, but more often than not I am competing with every other 20something writer in Andersonville and table space is a rare commodity. read more

Stopped by today for the first time after living just a few blocks away for almost 3 years... Coffee-- the Cortado I ordered was quite good, price was pretty reasonable. Food -- Wouldn't mind a bit more variety... but the peanut chocolate chip cookie I had was delicious. -staff was pretty friendly and attentive. -interior is well designed, albeit a little sterile. WIFI - I didn't use it, but 1 hour is VERY reasonable. Its a small place, they probably don't want someone who is spending a whopping $3 on coffee to then sit there taking up space for the next 6 hours... it hurts there business. I often pass coffee shops up because all the seats in the place are taken and I want somewhere to sit and read a book/magazine while I drink my coffee, so I go on to the next place. read more

They don't do tasty flavorings like, say, Ipsento, but for a good, basic coffee it works. It seemed more like a place to sit with friends than to wit and work.
