Perpetually worried about more break ins. Saw a guy get carjacked at gunpoint last week in the roundabout out front. Building didn't even say anything to us. Homeless people have broken in and just set up shop in the corners. Apartments and cars have all been broke into, a few cars stolen. Instead of locking the garage better management just gave out wheel locks and told us to deal with it. Don't move here. Location is the only thing it's got going for it. The Collective is an amazing place to live and provides lots of amenities. I have lived here for almost 2 years and have really enjoyed the buildings and community. Adam, the event manager, is the man and does his absolute best job. The management is intelligent and handles concerns to the best of their abilities. John is head of security and sometimes takes his job too seriously but at least you don't have to worry about much in terms of craziness here. Some qualms are the bike room break ins and car break ins that have happened a couple times. The police weren't able to catch them even after some investigations. I mention this because the bike rooms still don't have cameras after all of this and there could be more cameras in the garages. Additionally, the hot tubs usually have one closed, steam rooms break often, and gyms get packed after 5pm weekdays. Parking is expensive also and you're lucky to get a spot on move in, usually hace to wait 4-8 weeks... and amenity fee is an annual $780 which is high even with the amenities we have. But the buildings are kept really clean, the elevators rarely break (and not for more than 2 days), walls are thick so low noise, great location, great community here, and much more. I have lived at the Collective Apartments (in the Garrett, specifically) for almost three months now! Since I moved during the pandemic, and moved across the country from Washington State, all arrangements and tours were done virtually. Even with the time difference, the staff was super helpful and answered all of my (often mundane and tedious) questions. I relied heavily on Arlen, my leasing agent, to ensure everything was figured out and set up in my new apartment. He was so helpful that I was able to show up to the Garrett after driving for 8 hours, get my key, and start unloading my things into my apartment. The Collective has incredible amenities (the ones that I use most regularly are the indoor lap swimming pool, the Peloton bike room, and the weekly community events that are currently done virtually and span from art classes to virtual happy hours). The staff are also kind and personal and I love the concierge team at the Garrett. This building is located in a growing neighborhood (the Navy Yard) and is walking distance to so many excellent things Washington, DC has to offer and if you can't walk there, we are within a 5 minute walk of two different metro lines. And as a Covid-19 note, the Collective takes its safety precautions seriously. Everyone is always wearing their mask and I've witnessed a deep cleaning taking place daily throughout the Collective with hand sanitizer stations everywhere and plexiglass protecting the concierge desks. I lived at The Collective (Park Chelsea) for a little over the year - almost entirely during the pandemic. I bought a place so that's why I left and I was so sad to go! I absolutely love the front desk staff here! Megan was always happy to see my dog and I - from day 1 she was warm and friendly. I had a major knee surgery during my time here and they helped me out making sure delivery people brought stuff up to my door etc. the bldg is super quiet for being so large! Staff does a great job keeping it clean. The amenities are amazing and there's always some kind of social event going on. Prime locale on top of Whole Foods and east access to the highway. Best in Navy Yard if you ask me! read more

Having lived in this apartment complex for almost 3 years now, I can say that it is the best I have ever lived in. Besides a few maintenance issues in my first unit, which I had to move out of due to a water leak, everything else has made living here worth it. From the people, the views, and the amenity spaces, there is always something to do! Special thanks to Ashley, the events manager, who has organized everything from speakers and cooking classes to parties and fundraisers. My favorite has been the cooking classes (in person pre-Covid and virtual since) when we can learn from professional chefs in the demonstration kitchen or at home with ingredients delivered the day of events. Also the seasonal parties for residents like the Halloween event and the Summer pool party have been amazing. And the best event by far was the boat cruise for residents which took us on a tour of the monuments. Definitely recommend this apartment complex! read more

I recently moved into The Collective and my experience has been amazing. The building is very well taken care of, the apartments are some of the highest quality I've seen, and the staff are very helpful. For context, I had been looking for a new apartment for 8 MONTHS before I took advantage of an opportunity to tour this property with Jeremy in the leasing office...and I ended up signing the same day! As far as my leasing process is concerned, I can tell you that apartment hunting in the DMV area for 8 months made me painfully adept at identifying BS when it comes to leasing, so off top, Jeremy's transparency and straightforwardness throughout the process is something that I really valued. I was able to ask and receive clear answers to the *many* questions I asked about the apartment units, overall property, local community, and management. So, when I walked out I knew exactly what The Collective offered and felt very informed going through the application/signing/move-in process in the days that followed. Since actually taking residence at The Collective, I can honestly say that I love it here. My apartment feels like peace when I come home, giving me the space to thrive in introversion...and there's tons of resident activities and social gatherings for me to join on the days I feel like people-ing. Pro's - Apartment maintenance is very quick to be resolved (in most cases) Great community feel Amenities are great but some lose their novelty after a while Great location Friendly staff all around Cons - Rent is ridiculously expensive (shocker) If you move in now, you're not getting what this building has to offer. Once the pandemic is over it will be awesome. Highway noise in Agora Lots of good amenities, few great amenities so everyone gathers to the good ones. (I.e. 3 building complexes all in 1 single roof top pool when we have 3 pools total) Do I recommend this apartment? Yes absolutely. I've never been in a building like this and I love it. However The collective is still a business and they still need to make money. My leasing agent was not very responsive to me (no longer works here) but after I moved in I met Arlen. I wish now that he had helped me out. We chit chat whenever we pass by and he's an all around nice guy who will make an effort to get to know you. Pretty swanky apartments with awesome views to boot. From the time you enter the lobby and gawk at the décor and amenities; you'll come to find out the justification for it's price. You're essentially within walking distance or an Uber ride away from key attractions and establishments. As with D.C. parking is always an adventure and when they post the restrictions and time limit signs it is in your best judgement to adhere to them unless you like giving money away. Pets are welcome here and in weather permissible settings the roof-top is the place to mingle and possibly find your next roommate. read more

*This review is based on the leasing process only* WOW. That is really the best way to describe my process renting here. We had a last minute emergency and upon hearing of our situation, the leasing staff was able to get us in for a quick tour and we applied that day. The staff is SO responsive. Any question we asked, they answered. Even when I asked the same question to the different staff, their answers was all the same. They are very well trained and I didn't have to worry about half-ass answers. When they did not know something, they were able to find the answer out in minutes. The apartments and amenities themselves are breathtaking. I feel like we are going to live in a min-resort. I don't think the website pictures does this place justice. Huge shout out to Arlen, who helped us through this whole process and helped us get the best deal. He made this process very enjoyable, (and who enjoys moving?!) From our brief interactions with the concierge, we saw they took security very serious (a huge reason why we moved). They knew everyones faces and were very friendly to the residents. Where do I start? My girlfriend and I have been looking for apartments in the navy yard area for a few months now, and we noticed a pretty big difference among the buildings in terms of quality, but also in amenities and (most notably) helpfulness of staff. The Agora (where we ended up signing) simply cannot be beat for the money. With access to 3 pools, two full gyms, a peloton studio, prep kitchen, and multiple yoga and barre rooms, it almost seems more like a summer camp than an apartment building. And that's not even mentioning the infinity pool on the roof. But I feel as though the clincher for us, and the reason we signed here over all, was our leasing agent Arlen McCorkle. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us confidence that all of our question would be answered, and our concerns addressed. He was with us every step of the process and super professional throughout. I have never left a yelp review on anything but management has been unresponsive for literal months and I'm tired of it. Not at all surprised to see other 1 star reviews on here complaining about management not responding to emails or helping people with issues. We've lived here for about 6 months, and there has been construction in the retail space below for about half that time. It's erratic and unpredictable, we might go days without hearing anything or we might hear drilling and hammering from early morning to evening, even sometimes on holidays and weekends. We reached out when we first started hearing it, not knowing where the noise was coming from and wondering how long it would last, and they tried to tell us that nothing was under construction. Low and behold a couple weeks later they send everyone an email saying the retail space was under construction. I don't claim to know anything about building management but i find it pretty hard to believe they were totally unaware that an entire space in their building was being built and would be under construction for the next several months. If they were truly clueless, that's almost worse? We've asked for any help from them, whether that be a timeline of how long the construction will last or some sort of rent abatement because it has seriously affected our enjoyment of this apartment and ability to work (we picked this place specifically to work from home in). We can't even get management to respond. They simply don't seem to care. The last I've heard from them was in December when they told us we could try using the CoWork space, which is in the same building even closer to the construction and costs an ADDITIONAL fee to use. On top of the construction, dogs are barking constantly, the garage doors and elevators seem to always be broken, we consistently get locked out of the garage in the middle of the night and have to call the emergency number praying someone will answer and open it for us, our keys on multiple occasions have randomly stopped working for the gym and other amenities, and rent is HOW much? Yikes. If you never have any issues here, you might have a good experience. But don't expect any sort of help if you do have an issue. From other reviews it looks like you could have anything from mold to a broken A/C and they still don't care. read more

I have lived in Garrett for two years. I have a lot of trepidation when dealing with the staff and upper management in the building. Whenever I need assistance when something has gone wrong, I'm to blame for the problem despite a lack of discipline, understanding, and care on all levels. I'm ignored and marginalized, and because of my age, they treat me as a youth when dealing with upper management. They have silenced me with threats of legal action, they have lied repeatedly, and at the end of the day, I don't feel comfortable contacting the management team unless it's via email or there is a paper trail about what was discussed so they can't turn anything back on me. The office staff seems to never be at work, and no one with any authority is readily available, leading me to think, based on observation, that the management team doesn't understand the concept of managing. They have break-ins in the parking garage daily, and the parking rules aren't enforced equally. On top of that, they misplace and lose mail daily, service orders and questions are ignored, mistakes on their end are not acknowledged, and information isn't passed down. I could go on. If you like dealing with hoops to jump through, this entire residence is excellent; they will not let you down. The amenity spaces are absurd to rent out, and there is no operational security for the parking garage; people that don't live in the building use the gyms, you get two pool passes per apartment with only two additional guests, they deny cleaning services to be sent to your apartment which by the way scheduling it doesn't make a difference, you can smell pot in your unit, and the building doesn't enforce their own rules about smoking in your unit. The only positive thing is the maintenance crew that is stretched over three buildings working as hard as they can and the janitorial team that cleans up after some ridiculous people in this building that are very disrespectful and throw things all over the place and leave dog pee and vomit in the elevator as well as broken glass in the main hallways they are what keeps this building in order so it's not a frat house. read more

I wanted to update my review, as a reflection of living in Agora for a year and a half. We unfortunately had to move due to some personal reasons, and we were so sad to do so. We had the best time living here. Arlen is incredibly thorough and personal, and is always on top of his game. Ashley puts on the best events, and did an AWESOME job transitioning from in-person to virtual events when Covid-19 started. Virtual wine tasting, virtual olive oil tasting, virtual gym classes, and cooking classes. We really appreciated having things to do while quarantining. The maintenance staff is super friendly and amazingly proficient. They were always professional and able to fix whatever I needed in a timely manner. I think one of the things I'll miss the most is the amazing people at the front desk, specifically DaSean and Rashid. They greeted and talked with you like a friend, not just someone they have to say hi to. It was always a bright spot in my day when walking in or out of the lobby and seeing them there. Best spot in the Navy Yard. Don't skip the opportunity to live here! read more

We stopped in (admittedly without an appointment) to see if there was any possibility of getting a building tour, as we are looking for a new place within the next few months. It was clear management had no interest in dealing with us. Arlen said we could schedule a tour for the future, but that we then only had 48 hours to decide if we wanted to lease. He also said they rent all apartments sight unseen since demand is high, so there's no way to tour your specific apartment before moving in. We asked if he could at least walk us through the floor plans, options, and pricing, and he said everything was online, so to look at that and if we had any questions he would let us know. It's clear they think very highly of themselves, and had no interest in actually talking to us about leasing an apartment. There are lots of beautiful new buildings in the area, so no thanks! read more

We signed a Lease with Agora for its amenities. Other apartments in the area were more competitive but we wanted the better amenities so we paid the extra money. Since we moved in, management has been excessive with policing the amenities. I pay too much money to have a security guard tell me that I'm not allowed to sit on the roof after 10pm on a Friday night. I've been asked to leave the rooftop because I had my dog with me while using the grill. I later reread my lease and it never mentioned anything about dogs being prohibited from the grilling areas. We are all grown adults and there are never any issues so I don't know why the collective has decided to hire security to enforce arbitrary and unnecessary rules. The collective's motto should be "Don't you dare enjoy yourself here." Today was the last straw. We registered for rooftop passes for the Fourth of July a week before the holiday. We even picked up wrist bands from concierge. But the night of the fourth, We were denied access to the roof because it "was at capacity." We pay way too much money including a hefty annual amenities fee to be told that we can't access or enjoy the amenities. The "security" is on a power trip and the collective has effectively made this a miserable living experience We've tried to arrange a meeting with management on multiple occasions and have never received a reply. read more

I was recently assigned to VA/DC for work and this was the first time I needed to search for an apartment. I've looked at a lot of apartments and condos but none of them seemed like home until I toured The Collective DC. Amenities are topnotch - indoor pool, two rooftops pools, outdoor grills, dog parks, lounge areas, peloton cycle rooms, game rooms, yoga studio and more. In addition, Whole Foods is available at the ground floor. The apartment is generally quiet and the receptionists are very warm and friendly. My leasing consultant, Arlen McCorkle, is simply THE BEST, bar none! He is seriously excellent customer service personified and definitely beyond 5 stars! He has been so helpful and accommodating every step of the way - from the moment I emailed on a Sunday requesting for viewing all the way to the signing of the lease and even up to now, when I have already moved in. He was extremely patient in answering all my questions (and believe me, it was a lot!) and was just genuinely happy to see me settled here. He made this entire move so easy, stress-free and convenient as can ever be. A shout out as well to Connor, the nice leasing manager who obligingly showed me the apartments the 2nd time around when I was undecided between Agora and Park Chelsea. I had a great overall experience with the Park Chelsea, even though I didn't end up moving there for other reasons. The staff was very professional and Arlen was a huge help to me. He took me on a thorough tour of The Collection and was able to answer all of my questions. After the tour, we stayed connected while I tried to find a roommate, he was extremely accommodating and made the Park Chelsea feel like home before it was even home. If I have the opportunity to move to the Navy Yard in the future, I will absolutely choose the Park Chelsea/ Collective. The building is in a PRIME location in the Navy Yard, it's hard to beat. The staff not only bends over backward to make you feel at home, but the entire building is also inviting and very clean. After the initial problems with my move in being addressed by management I truly started to love living here (even recommended the community to everyone that was looking to move that asked me) UNTIL I started having problems with water damage (causing MOLD) in the ceiling of my bathroom. Yes as soon as I submitted the request I had maintenance and the building manager engaged in fixing the issue. However it's been three times (May, Sep and now October) that I have had to call in the issue (different leaks same spot) and yes it did not meet the requirements of DC law to have a mold specialist come in but by the photos you can see I am living with mold. The community manager is working well with me and maintenance is very responsive HOWEVER any time I go to the leasing office it's nothing but problems. Communication is broken and they expect the tenant to fix it. If you want to get a hold of a manger have to email them on the weekends. It's frustrating when dealing with water/mold issues the answer is email or forward me the emails you have gotten. I love the environment at the collective and the residents are amazing HOWEVER living in mold is not great for anyones health. read more

Great apartment complex. The staff here is very helpful and attentive. I met with Arlen for the tour and fell in love with this place! The move in was super easy and the staff helped us get settled quickly. There are so many great things at this building: - Friendly staff - Free resident events. - Amazing amenities: large gym, lap pool, two roof top pools, peloton bike studio, sauna, large balconies, roof top dog park, roof top vegetable garden. Apartments have granite counters and large windows with lots of natural light. One of the things I really enjoy at this building is how quiet it gets at night here. No large parties or people smoking marijuana in the halls. I can sleep on a Monday night and have enough energy for work the next day. People here are friendly and actually acknowledge each other. So much nicer to live here than my last building. Lots of great restaurants and bars in the area. Only a 15 minute walk to Nats stadium from here. We moved into The Garrett, one of three buildings within The Collective DC, ten days ago and we could not be more thrilled! Since we'd moved from out-of-state, the whole process had been extremely stressful, but that ended as soon as we arrived here. Everyone we've encountered has been extremely friendly and helpful, though Vicky G. deserves a special shout-out for being ultra efficient and addressing our questions and needs immediately. We hope we will continue to love living here as much as we do right now because the fact is that when you live in an apartment building, issues will come up now and then--but you feel reassured when you have great staff willing to help! read more

Leasing office is beyond rude. All the leasing offices in Navy Yard have great agents except The Collective. I went and toured the building in August with a friend who was looking for units. Because I went on this tour with a friend they now won't allow me the 48 hour tour incentive when I'm interested in apartment now that I want to move and was referred by the friend who actually moved in. Beyond idiotic. All other building in the area allow the option to retour for concessions as availability may change and better suite your desired move in date. Arlene then felt the need to ask if I would like him to provide additional referrals for apartment in the neighborhood. What a joke. The Collective Apartments, specifically the Agora, is an unbelievable place to live in. Between the insane amount of amenities shared between the two (soon to be three) buildings and the attached Whole Foods, you honestly do not need to leave the apartment complex if you don't want to. Yes, there are many beautiful apartment complexes in the Navy Yard neighborhood, but what sets The Collective apart is the amazing staff. Not only are they friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, but they also take the time to get to know you and Ashley, the Events Coordinator, does a great job of planning community events to help residents meet and get to know their neighbors. My boyfriend and I have made some great friends in the building, including several staff members. Arlen McCorkle, was absolutely fantastic to work with! He was extremely helpful during the leasing process and then he went above and beyond by helping my boyfriend secure the loading dock and lock out the elevator while I was moving in. He is always available to answer questions and he makes a genuine effort to get to know the residents of The Collective. I am extremely happy with my decision to move into the Agora at The Collective and I look forward to renewing my lease again next year.
