    Metal concert Profanatica (US)/Panzerfaust (DE)

Damn I wish they had more black and death metal shows here with some name stature. They have a lot of local bands do shows. Well, I came to see Profanatica and Panzerfaust and they were both killer! I met the guys in both bands. The place is very small and intimate. Probably 50 max standing room and close to the stage. Mixer table even in with the 50. Fabulous under-utilized venue in the edge of Oak Park (rough area). However, I parked apprehensively in the hood their and my car was in one piece after the show. The lot was tiny and full and once you drive in, you need to back out. Dangerous. So street parking worked. I love this venue. Very simple. Entry with bar and merch booths leading in to the room with the stage. Shoulder to shoulder kinda place. Best for metal. C'mon Colonial. Book more death/black metal shows in 2024!

    The Empire Strips Back

Parking is small but the location is so nostalgic. We watched Empire Stripes back and it was tasteful, funny, and location was perfect for it. As locals, we need to support it so they can upgrade their seats!! Its a regular concession stand food, non-alcoholic beverages.

The movie was fantastic and let me tell you, the upcharge for the D-Box seats might seem a little strange but I promise you? If you're seeing an action, thriller or action/horror, DO IT! It literally made you feel like you were on a ride at the movies like a kid again! This made the movie a 10 times crazier experience, and not to mention it they have SEAT WARMERS on the inside for your lower back and you can also control the strength on your seat if how hard it pulls you or vibrates for customers with medical conditions which is very considerate. 10000/10 what a great time if you guys are looking around for movies and a great time, HERE plus the. I successfully watched the movie Obsession, a deeply frightening horror-and-romance film. Coming on a Tuesday was a spectacular deal. The movie ticket was only $6.50 each. For snacks, I tried the medium popcorn ($12.00) and churro bites with a side of caramel sauce ($7.89). The popcorn was deliciously salty + buttery and the churros were a decadent sweet treat. The theatre seats were super comfortable and the movie screen provided excellent visuals. The restrooms were very clean and well-maintained. The staff members were pleasantly friendly. My visit was positively wonderful. I appreciated the reasonable price points as well as the comfort of the theatre room. We bought our tickets at the counter & customer service was fine. Kiosks were also available to buy tickets. There was a good variety of conventional concessions available for purchase, self serve soda machines, & an open area with tables & chairs. The hallways to the theaters are wide. We found the theater to be clean with very comfy & roomy seats. I liked that the button on the side could raise the foot rest & recline the back into whatever position you liked (versus only 2 positions of kicking back or being upright). I also liked that I got my own arm rest. The viewing experience was good. When we got out, there was popcorn spillage in the hall. Not sure how long it would be there, but no employees were around. It's a surreal experience to go through a ghost town of a mall to get to the theater, but there's a lot of parking available.

There was a big aisle in front of this row so you could stretch out your legs. Rows B and A seemed even further down. The 2nd floor projection room was neat to see before the showing, especially the giant reels of film! Fila scored a free large buttered popcorn after filling out a survey from a previous visit, and they even put the refill in a tray for us to share. The only two Icee flavors they had were blue raspberry and Coca-Cola; the white cherry was all out. I also got a salted jumbo pretzel with cheese, although this must have been under the heat lamps too long as it was more crispy than soft. The only preview shown was for Dune 3. Note that this was not a 3D or 4DX showing, but one of only 25 theaters in the US that could show the full 70mm projection 1.43:1 aspect ratio. The seats are rocker not recline, and the angle of our seat view was not ideal since the screen was curved, especially for such a long movie, but the 60'x80' screen plus surround sound was epic. Lots of movie posters and a cardboard display, although sadly when the movie was finished, the exterior neon lights for the Esquire were not lit up along K Street. City garage parking recommended, although for the Esquire's lot you specifically need the Metropolis App.

I definitely don't come here as much anymore, but I saw a movie I wanted to see and said, "Yep, let's go." The parking lot has plenty of spaces, and they still have the ticket windows out front. That brought back memories of getting there early, buying your ticket, then waiting in line so you could get a good seat. Now everything is online with assigned seating, so those days are long gone. I guess that also means I'm officially old enough to say, "Back in my day..." The staff was friendly and moved everything along quickly. The young man at checkout was all smiles, very polite, and gave some of the best customer service I've had at a movie theater in a long time. Now maybe it's just me, or maybe I haven't been to the movies in a while, but I don't remember movie theaters having heated seats. That was a great surprise. I almost forgot I was there to watch a movie. After all these years, it's still a good theater. It brought back some memories, the staff was great, and the heated seats definitely won me over. Pros: The seating was comfortable, the walkways were wide, and the tray tables and recliners were nice. The bar also looked decent, with fair cocktail prices. Cons: Concessions were expensive, which I expected, but what I didn't expect was for my boyfriend to get sick after eating the popcorn. And of course, the bag policy. I didn't bring anything in, so there was no reason to search me other than "their policy." The only times I can think of getting a bag searched are for safety reasons, like TSA, festivals, shows, or the emergency room. For a movie theater, it felt cheap and unnecessary. Ps: There are also two Yelp accounts for this location, which made the experience a little confusing. I posted this review on both.

The biggest issue was the party room setup. Unfortunately when we got there, the room wasn't ready. There were no plates, utensils, napkins, or juices set out for the kids, and it honestly felt like there wasn't an assigned attendant checking in on the room. My friend had actually chosen this location because she previously hosted another birthday party here for her older daughter and had an amazing experience with decorations and an attentive party host, so this visit felt very different from what she expected. Once it was time for the movie though, things definitely improved. Someone came in and took all the kids' snack orders, and the kids loved getting their popcorn and Slurpees. That part felt much smoother and more organized. I also appreciated how clean everything was. The restrooms and theater itself were very well maintained, which always stands out to me in busy movie theaters. The heated seats were also a nice touch. They weren't overly warm, but you could definitely feel a little heat on your back which made the theater feel extra cozy. Another plus was the drink selection. There were plenty of options for both kids and adults, which made everyone happy. Helpful tip: If you're booking a birthday party here, it might be worth confirming the party room setup details again the day of just to make sure everything is ready when you arrive.
