We are new tenants and wanted to write a review of our move-in experience. We are very happy with our new apartment and the management and maintenance team in the complex is excellent. They are extremely attentive, quick to respond to tenant's concerns, and hard-working! Upon move-in, we had an issue with the lingering smell of incense from the previous tenants. As soon as we brought it to their attention, within minutes maintenance was at our door providing a solution. They brought in a special machine that eliminated the incense odor completely. Our apartment is extremely Clean, Well-maintained, and includes everything we need to live comfortably. They are very friendly and helpful when we have questions about our renewal lease and when a newsletter is set out and we have an apartment question. The maintenance staff is on another level, approachable, fast, and nice! The place always looks good. I've been wanting to write a review for this place for a long time and finally I have it here. I have lived in Seattle - Redmond area for about three years during when I've moved between different apartment management. I have lived at two apartments within in community. Of all the leasing , I must say that THE COLONY AT BEAR CREEK is easily the best. This place is located just a mile away from Redmond Town Center so shopping and movies are too easy if you live here. Though the apartments are not the newest you can find in the area, they are definitely decent in space. Most of the corporate offices are at close proximity. When you select an apartment, we are always keen at knowing the turn around time on the service request. When it comes to the Colony, I must say that they have the best Service team in the area. I have never had even a single request which had to wait for more than 10 hours since I log a ticket. Talking about the leasing staff, I definitely wanted to mention Fack and Brian here. These guys are super friendly and always make sure that they do the best they could do for their tenants. The rest of the staffs are also good but it's always these two guys who take care of most of the queries. Being an Yelp Elite, I am forced to list even the negative aspects in any of my review. The only and most important drawback here at the COLONY is that they do not allow SUB-LEASE( reason for not a 5 star) . I hope they consider that in the future. Updated review (May 2020): We recently moved to a different apartment in the complex (ground floor w an additional bedroom). The whole team made the transfer quick and easy. Again with TJ and the maintenance crew - we continue to be impressed with the quickness of their response. A couple minor tweaks due to moving in and they were done the same day the request was sent. The grounds and landscaping are well-kept and feel homey. Truly love this place. Original post (Dec 2019): We've had a fantastic experience here so far. The thing that jumps out in particular is the maintenance crew - something that is a headache for many people. Any time there's an issue, the team is out immediately to take care of it. We only lived here for a few month due to COVID. Monica is great and helped us with a mutual termination of our lease as well as setting up a 15-month payment plan for us to pay our April rent after losing our income due to COVID. She even wrote us a letter explaining our good tenancy and that our balance was due only to COVID in order to help us get into a new place in a different state. Thank you Monica! I recently moved from The Colony at Bear Creek after living there for three and a half years. Wanted to say that it was comfortable for me and having in-unit laundry was a life-changer. My unit also included a fridge/freezer. Heating for the living room is handled by a heating fan on one of the walls. For the bedroom, it was a heating "vent" close to the floor, below the bedroom window. The ceiling fan came in handy during hotter summers, but I never needed an air conditioning unit - directly sunlight didn't hit my apartment windows, so my place was always cool. The leasing office staff have always been responsive to my e-mails and the maintenance staff have handled my requests promptly (and as-scheduled according to my appointments through the web portal). Fack, Monica, Michelle, and team have always been a pleasure to talk to when I had questions about the apartment or needed something attended to. Rent is best-handled online. There was one glitch that was quickly resolved when I adjusted my next lease-term (Fack & team acted fast in that case, great service again). I opted for carport/a parking space. Once or twice I had to call a tow-truck in order to move a car that was parked in my spot - both times, the tow-truck partner responded within the hour. Points for that! Those mishaps occurred in the first year and a half - I think most folks are more educated now to park in any uncovered spot if they are visitors or such. Another observation: Over the course of my stay, just about every resident in units around mine moved out, with new residents moving in. Naturally, that means a change to the environment: You can't fault the complex staff for neighbors who end up being louder than previous ones (i.e. they actually talk to each other, some are more vocal than others). But do take note: the walls are just thin enough where you can hear the presence of a conversation. Over some months, my neighbors were all extremely quiet. Later, a family or couple would move in and they were far more talkative. Such is apartment living, really. I was never pushed far enough by neighbors' noise to file a noise complaint, but then again I'm almost too patient a person. The location of this complex keeps you close to the Redmond Town Center and downtown Redmond. Things like a Safeway, Starbucks, Peet's Coffee & Whole Foods down Redmond Way. Also, it's close to the only Target in the vicinity, too. I miss being that close to everything in an area that isn't as hectic as where I am now! The complex is associated with the Education Hill area and is situated with Avondale Rd NE, so mornings (8-9am) and evenings (5:30-6:45) have the most traffic. Add school buses into the morning mix as well. I enjoyed my time at The Colony. Drop by and check them out if you're apartment hunting. Recommended! read more

We called this place the Colon at S**t Creek for a reason. We lived here for about three years; we absolutely loathed the place. Black mold creeping on the closet walls, a staircase railing outside with rotten wood that was never fixed, mailboxes were broken into (more than once), and incompentent management who never resolved any complaints about noise, even when the couple next door was involved in a domestic disturbance, night after night of yelling and shouting. Never rent here unless you have literally no other choice. read more

They accept section 8. That is the most amazing thing and ecstatic. I spent hours apon hours on the phone and internet looking for someone that accepted section 8 within the guidelines of the rental amount. So I have been here for about 15 months. The place is beautiful. The staff in the leasing office is very friendly. They work with you when you have issues. The online payment method and online service maintenance request is easy and they are prompt to get things fixed. The things I didn't like about the property the walls are thin. You can hear someone's conversation. Someone taking a shower or using the bathroom. If I was not moving to another state I would stay here until I couldn't live here anymore. read more

Annoyances: - Price creep. I don't think this is unique to the Colony; but the longer you live here, the more your rent creeps up and up. This in addition to a $30 valet trash fee that is a new service charge- my rate of pay increases didn't keep up with the cost of living here. - This might also be a Washington thing, but it feels like they come into your apartment for a lot of things, around once every month or two. This could die down in the future, but they have come in to replace lightbulbs with eco-friendly ones; to change the thermostats, to install insulation in the attic, and some other stuff I'm not remembering. The improvements aren't bad things, but I've never experienced that before. Pros: - The staff is very friendly, professional, and communicative. - The apartment units themselves are clean and look nice. The 2 bedroom layout I have is the best I saw apartment hunting - they are on opposite sides of the apartment with no shared walls; limiting noise from one bedroom to the other. - Service orders are promptly handled. - New package storage lockers are a huge, recent improvement. You can get your packages without going to the leasing office, at whatever hour you get to it. - The property itself is pretty for the price point and they care. There are a lot of community events if you wish to participate in them. The green spaces make for a nice quality of life. Overall, if you've found this apartment complex while looking for a place in Redmond- give them a call for sure. The pros outweigh the cons; and while I'm moving on to live in the city, I'll remember the Colony at Bear Creek fondly as one of my best living situations ever. read more

The Colony at Bear Creek. The good, The bad, and the ugly. The good, this list is rather sort and sweet. Fack is the only person, I've dealt with during my time there who's got a brain. I like the fact that it was close to work. 5 min drive home was nice. The bad, Brian was a big slacker takes an ice age to get anything done. This guy's also really impersonal in real life as well. He didn't acknowledge me in public at a grocery store and went out of his way to ignore me, Monica, add her to the list as well. Bad phone manner and really snooty face to face. I guess that explains her 300 calorie mocha everyday, girls terribly undercarbed and always in a bad mood. Maintenance crew, bunch of stoners who play in the cabana all day long. They really suck at their job and didn't fix a thing in my apartment. The ugly, Karla is pretty much the worst of this rat pack. She's condescending, vindictive and full of crap. I had an issue with an upstairs neighbors during the week he and family moved in. My car side view mirror was smashed the morning after this guy moved in upstairs. He was banging around furniture all night long, woke up both neighbors next door to me. Obviously his couch or dresser crashed into my car upon him moving in. I taped my mirror up and the following day, the tape was removed. I confronted the upstairs neighbor and told him to knock of his drama. The guy called the cops on me and his wife called me a white devil. Karla, decided to send me a letter in the mail after our phone conversation accusing me of being racist towards my upstairs neighbors. The real nail on the coffin for me was the non renewal letter this lady sent. I cracked up as if, I wanted to continue living in that terrible complex. I'm a home owner now and could careless about the colony at bear creek. read more

I couldn't be happier to have left The Colony. For the past year we were battling with noise issues, and every time it seemed like the office had solved it, the noise just came back in full force. I'm not talking about the normal "apartment living" noise, I'm talking about domestic fights, slamming doors at all hours of the night, tv bass on WAY past quiet hours, oh and a baby banging it's head against our shared bedroom wall. (I'm getting mad just thinking about it). Enough! This only resolved itself when I sat down with Karla face-to-face. Granted, from then on our living experience greatly improved, and I'm very thankful to Karla, but it was too little too late. It took 10 months for any change to happen...seriously. I feel disrespected it took so long to properly handle this situation. Overall, it's a nice place to live for a nice price. We enjoyed our apartment for what it was worth, but there we so many other problems, maintenance wise, that there was never any point of getting them fixed. (Example: water rot on the cabinet in the bathroom, electrical outlets that could never hold a plug, I could go on). I thank the staff for being nice, but that's really it. I wouldn't recommend any of my friends move here, but maybe you'll get lucky and have nice, respectful neighbors, because we did not. read more

We were put into these apartments for a month when we first moved here from San Diego. The apartment complex is a way out (about a 30 minute walk) From the town center and is a long way from hubby's work. Getting to and from work is a nightmare during rush hour as it seems the traffic moves in the same direction you want to go. The apartments are pretty old, whilst adequate the kitchen needs updating. Our apartment for the month was located on the first floor and was really close to the Avondale road so there was a lot of traffic noise. The whole apartment was really dark. Additionally there was a neighbor upstairs that put on loud music at all times of the night, just what you need when you have a toddler. The trash was often on the floor around the big trash dumpsters and parking was a nightmare, especially given that to have an undercover spot you have to pay. We were very disappointed in all and were shocked at the price to rent an apartment. read more

NOISE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE LEASING OFFICE MANAGEMENT IS ALSO A SERIOUS PROBLEM. This is the worst place I have lived in! The walls and the ceiling are so thin that if your neighbor walks you can hear him! When I had noise problems with one of my neighbors, the leasing office were so passive about it and never took any actions. They have renovated a basketball court just next to one of the buildings and kids are always screaming there. Best apartment complex I've lived ever in! Been here for about 10 months and I'm a happy tenant! Super friendly staff- Fack is the awesomest leasing agent to work with. He's super nice, helpful, and honest. Everyone I've encountered have been great, from the office staff to maintenance personnel. Every time we've put in a maintenance request (which has only been twice)... The response has been quick and the guys are super helpful! Case in point- we were moving our furniture in and one of the maintenance guys drove by in his truck. He actually stopped, got out, and helped my husband carried the couch up the stairs so I didn't have to! That's just a great sign right there that we were going to be taken care of here. Anyway, we found a gem here in Redmond. Went around to about a dozen places all around the east side and everything was either too expensive or ghetto looking. That's why I couldn't believe it when I found the colony. the rates are so reasonable and the complex is beautifully maintained! I have been living there for 3 months before transfer my lease to my friend. The place is very comfortable with big lawns, small creek and several ponds. The leasing office includes a hot tub and a small gym, which keep me in good shape before finding a good local gym. Maybe I am just lucky, all my neighbors are quite and friendly. The place is very safe, since I have left my bike unlocked on the porch for 3 months. The location is a little remote from downtown - 10 minutes drive, but you can take bus at the front gate. There are many supermarkets around: PCC, HomeDepot, Safeway, Target and Fredmeyer in 5 minutes drive distance. The crew of leasing office is the best, Fack and Brian has been super helpful to us. Not only before sign the lease, but also when I left to my new home. I enjoy the place very much and I have recommended my friend to stay there if they are looking for an apartment. read more

This apartment complex is really great! Here are my reasons for giving 5 stars: Staff: Extremely friendly. I've never had a negative experience. Bryan and Fak are super friendly, even when they are busy they acknowledge you. I appreciate that. The man sitting in the office, and a woman named Monica, are also both friendly. I've only had 1-2 experiences with either of the two, so I can't speak too much but they were only positive. Every month or so they do a "Breakfast on the Go" where you can stop by on your way out to grab free breakfast. Grounds: The colony staff do everything within their appropriate SOW to keep the grounds looking great. I've seen a few of the community dumpsters overflowing with garbage (chairs, microwaves, plants, wtf?) but that is completely 100% on the residents, which is the luck of a draw I guess. The pool, cabana, workout area (small and humble but useful), and sauna are all well maintained. Apartment Unit: The apartments are small, which is relative. I moved from Puyallup (1200sqft @ 800/mo) to Redmond so it's a bit of shock, both the price and size. It's difficult because there isn't really any storage. Like... no hall closet, no coat closet, no pantry, each bedroom gets 1 closet, the bathroom has under sink storage, and the washer/dryer closet has a shelf. That's really about it. I look at it as a challenge for me to downsize and store things better. It's just an adjustment. Residents: I miss the sense of community I had in Puyallup. Knowing my neighbors and talking with other residents (not nosy, just hey hows it going blah blah). I have been here since August so hopefully this summer we will start meeting other people. Where to start... - Property management is demanding and harassing, they play favorites and enforce some rules on some and ignore them on others. - Sidewalks flood when it rains and are broken and uneven - Carports are full of sludge that you slip and die on - Amenities are always closed or unavailable and when you complain, they tell you to bad, its not part of your lease. - Soft floors in the apartments in areas, they re-carpeted and never fixed the sub floor - When i first moved in, the oven didn't work and Toilet didn't work. - They removed trash service and then only put out a small number of dumpsters 100's of feet away - Speed bumps are too high, causing damage to the underside of the car For nearly $2,000 a month for a 2 bedroom, you can find much, much better! Our family lived at The Colony from 2017 to 2019 in the I-building apartments. I wonder if we just got lucky on our apartment, because our experience was the exact opposite of paper thin walls. Several months into the start of our lease, a car rolled forward from a carport on a hill, through the hedges, and into an apartment on the ground floor across from our second floor apartment. Fortunately, that neighbor was in the process of moving out; neither he nor the driver we're injured. It just sounded like a really loud car-door slamming. We didn't even realize what happened until one of us went to walk the dog and saw all the glass. It's surprising, despite being right off of Avondale, we never never heard the traffic. Apparently, windows are going to get upgraded to this model that has better soundproofing and eliminates that sweating/condescension effect, so that should make things even better. For us though, it was really quiet and we mainly heard when the neighbor's shower or bathroom fan. Lots of folks have positive staff stories that go out of the way to mention people by name, our experience was no different. Our first month, the key was sticking on the mailbox and one of the guys from maintenance (no longer working there, so we never got to get his name), replaced the key that same day. Before we moved in, Bryan (over at Avanti now) remembered we were looking for a first floor apartment for our tripod dog when we started filling out an application for the second floor apartment. That was a month after the initial conversation. Fack saves the day stories are too numerous to mention. Same with maintenance request turn-arounds (usually Santos). There's a lot of community events too. We were impressed that they organized a scavenger hunt for Halloween and had signs you could put on your door to participate in handing out candy for trick-or-treaters. I've never seen that before at an apartment community. Another positive note is that lease renewal wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The increase was $20 when we renewed in 2018, which was about 2%-3% for an apartment we probably rented at the higher part of the seasonal market. We ended up moving out to be closer to work, but if the commute ever changes, we'll be back. read more

I have nothing but glowing things to say about everyone who works at this community. I moved here last year from across the country to escape from possible retaliation, as the victim of and witness to a handful of violent crimes. As a result, I had trouble verifying my identity and employment, but Fack and his leasing team took a chance on me and made it possible for me to rent here. They literally saved my life! Moreover, due to my continued battles in litigation on the other side of the country, I am still unemployable, but Monica has transcended above and beyond her scope of duty to help me secure the resources to pay my rent. Fack and Monica really care about everyone and I hope to pay it forward as soon as I get back on my feet. As a practicing Catholic, I do not say this lightly: Fack and Monica have been absolutely saintly. They have saved the lives of everyone in my family! read more

I lived here for one year and found that the place is congested and the managment tricks you when u are signing the lease.they are friendly and soft spoken when u are signing the lease but when u are moving out they will charge u alot and u cant even argue them as they only say one thing we apologise but these are the charges u have to give.i cleaned the home home from professionals and i requested them to visit with me and let me know if there are any problems but they refused to visit and in the end they sent me a bill of 620 $.If u have any questions i can share the pics how i left the apartment to anyone who want to see the reality.I can suggest one thing that u all should move to any other apartments.As u will regret as i am regretting. This place is great. They take care of the landscaping, office staff is friendly and always offering to help, amenities are great (especially package pickup attendants late on weekdays), maintenance staff and requests are always prompt and great. My only complaint, and why this isn't 5 stars, is that the place is old. Nothing has been updated, we're talking vintage 80s cabinets here :P - they replace appliances as needed so you may have a new washing machine but very old dryer (like me). It all works, and it's simple, but it's something to note that there isn't anything "flashy" or "new" here. Also with the old building comes noise.. hearing footsteps, water running, etc from people around you, just keep that in mind. If you get an apt near trees it's very likely to be dark, which is most of the complex, but we make do with lots of lamps. read more

The move-out charges are ridiculous. I've lived in apartments for 4 years and I'm really horrified with the charges. If you are misfortunate to be living there, make certain you get the move out inspection done. We tried based on the advice on City Search, but had the manager (never seen this person!) cancel. I was looking for a new apartment to live in for 2 months. No one was helpful everything was too small or too expensive. Then that magical rent.com ad advertising The Colony at Bear Creek!! I called them immediately and went and looked at the facility. WOW!! Beautifully trimmed trees, 2 pools, a water fountain and a green belt which provides a lot of privacy. I thought I was in heaven. Sean the leasing manager was one of the most helpful staff members this company has!!! He always is on top of his game he seems like he is always there to help with a smile. I order a package that came late but I went a day early and he searched for 10 minutes. Small things like taking time to help your residents however sometimes retarded we may be. The staff is always kind and helpful. Great access to bus route and 520! The green belt is a great place to climb and observe nature. It feels like u are deep in the woods when it's less than a mile from 520! Thank you Sean and staff for the wonderful accommodations and the great environment of the whole apartment complex!! I lived here from Sept 2013-2014, & I wish I could still live there! ... we wanted to upgrade to a 2 bedroom though and it was about $100 out of our price range. The staff was always helpful, and our maintenance man, John, was soo nice and helpful. He was also our neighbor and very friendly even when off work. We paid $1057.95 for our 1 bedroom and a flat rate of like $75 for water/sew/garb monthly (3 people). I really love that they do a monthly rAte for w/s/g because my old apartment (redmond hill apts) charged an arm and a leg every month and would vary greatly, I dread getting that bill. We definitely got a great deal on the rent, looks like it's gone up a lot since we rented but it was an amazing apartment for the price. Also, the location is SO nice, it's less than 5 min drive to Fred Meyer, Target, Redmond town center, Safeway... Everything! I will definitely miss living here. However, I haven't got my bill for the moving out charges (I'm worried because a previous reviewer said it was awful), so I will update when I get that. *UPDATE*- I actually got money back after my move out charges, yay!! I've had a great experience living at the Colony. The staff and maintenance employees are very kind, super helpful and quick to respond to emails and service requests. When I make an online service request, someone is available within 24 hours to help. When I initially moved in, I wound up with on older dryer model; it recently stopped working and could not be fixed, so they brought in a brand new dryer the same day. It was great. I moved in 2 years ago. Since then, the staff has spent a lot of time beautifying the grounds, cleaning the buildings, and making renovations. There are older elements to the apartments, but I have to stress that if anything breaks or falls apart, they will most certainly fix it upon your request. Parking is excellent. I am from the Midwest, and in the Midwest there's none of this pay-a-gajillion-dollars-to-park business, like there is around this area. At the Colony, uncovered spots are free. Covered are $25/month. I've never had a problem finding or parking in an uncovered space. Rent has gone up in the 2 years that I have been here, but I really think it's climbing because of the market (thanks Facebook and Amazon), not because they're trying to squeeze every dime out of us. If you are looking for a really safe place in the very respected city of Redmond, then this place is the best option for the price. read more
