Really cool place to check out for some different stuff. If you're in to mead then this is a place. Just as an FYI - all of their mead is Gluten Free so they don't have any Braggots (mead made with grains) so a lot of their stuff is sweeter and lighter. I would have appreciated a little bit of a heavier bodied mead but since they are GF, I can understand their lines. Huge variety of meads to try, bottles to buy and a wide variety of them on tap for flights. They have different styles of flights. Our server was really knowledgable and helped make the experience better. We had a group of about 10 plus dogs and we had a great experience! This place is also connected to a brewery and they allow you to pop back and forth between the two. I'm not a bug beer fan so I stopped in when my group was at the brewery. it was my first time having meads and I was very impressed! I'm not a big Meadery type of guy so I'm probably not the best reviewer for this place. My lady and I were there for a Pitt alumni get together. The venue is pretty cool and the location is convenient with the distillery and brewery nearby. It's a pretty cool concept overall. I also like the self serve water cooler but the flow rate is a bit slow. We ended up ordering a flight of different meads. I was hoping we could mix and match with the ciders since it was the same price but they didn't allow which was a major bummer. The bartender was nice and chatty and helpful. If I'm ever there again, I'll probably get a cider next time. read more

Joined some friends for a tour and tasting at this hidden gem Meadery. The tour was conducted by one of the co owners who was very knowledgeable and passionate about his product. He passed on information about mead, honey and bees that I never knew about. Some of you that have tasted mead wine sold in the state stores and did not like it have to try these. They are true honey meads not mixed with wine. All the flavoring are made with natural ingredients. Everything we tasted today was delicious. Our tour included tastes of five different meads. The first, Straight No Chaser was a semi sweet traditional mead made with just orange blossom honey. I really enjoyed it but my favorite of the tasting was Woofiedog. It was made with hops. This mead had a lite hop flavor without the hops bitterness. We had a grapefruit and lime flavored mead which was good. A mojito flavored version tasted just like it's namesake. The final taste was Sasparilla , for those of you who like cream soda this is the flavor for you. They let us keep our tasting glasses and had many other flavors that they were willing to let us try in their comfortable tasting room but that will have to wait until our next visit. This is the best Meadery I have ever been to. Most places serve the same super sweet golden colored Meade with just a subtle infusion of flavors. The creations here are amazing. They offer many different types of Meade and their infusions are great. This is located next to a brewery and a distillery. So you have a great location for multiple sampling. We stumbled into The Colony Meadery after walking through the Moravian Book Shop and I'm so glad we did! This was my first experience with mead and it was amazing. The bf and I started with one tasting which included our choice of 5 meads to try. We enjoyed it so much and wanted to try more flavors, that we decided to do a second tasting. The mead selection is awesome, so many different flavors to try, and even better, you can buy them after. I thought the price point was fitting, most of the flavors were around $12, a great buy! Carol was very helpful and answered any questions we had. I love that they have a small cafe style seating area where you can comfortably have a seat and relax during your tasting. Our favorites, which we also purchased a bottle of each were: Earle, Wu Tang Cran, Pikwant Field, Up the Hibs, and Lemon Laws. Also, they offer the tasting rack and their signature "Get Buzzed" glasses for purchase. I thought the rack was so cute, I had to buy it! Don't think I really needed it but, under the influence of mead it seemed necessary at the time, so no buyers remorse haha! I also just checked out the website and see that they have descriptions and pairing suggestions for each meade, also you can order online! Awesome features being that we were just in town for the weekend. Will definitely stop by next time we're in Bethlehem and order more mead online in the future! read more

Oh my. The meads made at The Colony are simply the best I have ever had. They are not too sweet and expertly balanced. I visited the meadery during a mini-bar crawl through the area during an internship. It was my favorite. It had the best mix of vibe and quality product. I went solo and brought a book to read. The person behind the bar was friendly, but not pushy. They offer mead flights which allowed me to sample a variety of meads. I loved the "Straight No Chaser" and the "Mo-Mead-O" (a mint and lime mead). They can and bottle their meads, blessed be. I went home recently to PA and picked up three bottles to bring back to Maine. RUN, don't walk to this place. read more

They let us sample as many meads as we wished and then gave us a tour. I definitely learned A LOT! We purchased the strawberry and kiwi mead which set us back $12, but it was well worth it. Now I'm sad I didn't allow for more time. Everyone there is wonderful. I'm a vibes person and the team there truly was spectacular. It was real and honest and full of love and dedication. One of those nuggets of joy that are easy to miss when you live in the area. I'll preface everything else by saying up until I visited The Colony I hated mead. I always found it to sickly sweet. As it was explained to me by the folks at the meadery, a large number of meaderies use clover honey which is why theyre so sweet as opposed to the orange blossom honey used by The Colony. This produces an earthier more balanced mead. Add to that the ridiculous amount of varieties they have and there is in fact a mead for everyone. After purchasing a flight to try to narrow down the various profiles, I settled on Fred and Ginger. Fred and Ginger is mead with a bite. Along with their already great mead it has Ginger added and it shows. It has a bite, and spice, without either side (Mead or Ginger) overpowering each other. This place is the real deal. I've had quite a bit of mead in my day and this place is up there with the best I've tasted. Nice variety flavors, some sweeter, some drier. All with tons of flavor and a perfect goldilocks viscosity (not too thick, not too thin). Additional pluses are friendly staff and parking that is easy to find even on a Friday night. Don't let the location or the first impression fool you, this place is a gem! I tried my first mead when my mom received a bottle for Christmas and loved it, shortly after I found a groupon and finally made it there today! The man who did our tour was so passionate and knowledgeable about the whole process and certainly gave us a wealth of very interesting information. Every mead we tried was amazing. I can't get over how smooth they are. I am an avid winery goer, but this experience was so much more relaxed and less rushed. I ended up buying a refillable growler. Stopped by the Meadery On a Saturday after learning about the business on Groupon. Small location, in a commercial area Allentown, very small to no "store front." Inside you walk in to a small "tasting/cash register counter." There are 2 patio style tables for sitting. With your tasting you can keep your glass. It's not a bad price- with our deal it was $8/pp. The owner allowed us to taste everything, (beginning with the basics and on to more unique flavors by choice.) The Meads were really good, for my first time tasting I'd say they were awesome. There are some wine like flavors, beer like flavors, fruity like flavors, we actually bought the margarita style mead (specialty mead - bought in a mason jar) Overall a great experience, I think once the business gets established and the good vibes spread about the Meadery, the business should move to a more public friendly location. 2 thumbs up!! read more

I went to the Colony Meadery yesterday. It was amazing. There were 20 different meads. The tour came with a 5 mead tasting and an insightful and educational tour. I highly recommend getting a group of 4 together and heading up to Allentown so your group can taste all 20! I went to The Colony Meadery with a friend. We were excited about the tasting since it would be a totally new experience for us, neither of us have been exposed to much mead. Ive had it in Ireland, England and once in the finger lakes. We had been told we would find more than the syrupy honey mead we had in the past. I'm a huge geek and I love to really get into the details of how things are made and have had some great times learning about wine, beer, etc. The first gentleman that helped us was great-he was knowledgable, polite and friendly. He gave us the low down on the tasting fee, how many we would be sampling and told us we could keep the glass once finished. He answered our questions and gave us some fun facts for the first few tastings. He left us to host a tour and that's when the visit went south. A younger guy was asked to step in to help us finish our tasting. This guy was condescending, flippant and rude. Who the heck knows tons about mead? Shouldn't you expect to be answering questions and offering info on what you're pouring? Between his demeanor and the three drops of mead he added to our glass it really soured our experience. It's unfortunate that someone's unwelcoming attitude could have an effect on sales, but it made us not buy anything. read more

Great variety of meads. They go all the way from very dry to sweet with lots of different flavors. Very nice and knowledgeable staff.

This place is awesome! Our second visit was just as great as the first one!! Not only are the meads fantastic, the people working behind the bar are friendly, attentive, and show a lot of passion toward their product. We were pleased to discover that they now make herbal-infused meads, kombuchas, and also feature a Randall.
