This is not usually a place I would visit, but when looking up places to go on a special occasion, axe throwing just stood out. We parked across the street in the gravel lot, signs have the buildings number (252) on them designating the spots. Building does have stairs, but they also have a small lift for handicap accessibility. Interior looks exactly like you would expect in a place like this, full of wood everywhere. Due to COVID restrictions, you have to order food, and they have a basic menu that includes things like hot pretzel braids. Our group sampled various Mead's and liked them, but they do offer Beer and Soda. Staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The highlight of the trip and worth every dollar was the axe throwing. You purchase a ticket at the main register, walk over to the throwing area, and sign in. They give you clear instruction how to do it and you're throwing. The instructor was great and very personable. The throwing is very safe and our group loved it, even when we didn't always find the target. Absolutely would return here. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect since all the reviews and photos were from the "before times", but I was pleasantly surprised. The tables are spaced apart (reduced tables) and masks are still required. You have to order food to drink, but they have some small bar food items (brats, pretzels, etc.). Definitely get the flights of mead! Best way to see what you'll like. The decor is perfect with swords, shields, and other viking fare. The bartender, even though he doesn't work every day, was extremely knowledgeable about the meads and made suggestions on what we'd like based on our taste preferences. If you go on a weekend, I recommend getting there close to opening. With fewer tables, it got packed quickly! If you're into axe throwing, bring your competitive side and throw out some aggression. If you've never thrown before, never fear. They'll only let you throw a couple terrible throws before they'll give you pointers. The drinks were really good, but the staff was extremely rude. They didn't seem like they wanted to be bothered not only with the drinks, but also with the axe throwing. Never been axe throwing before and there was barely any instruction and when I messed up, was accused of being my fault. I gave up after three tries of throwing the axe. What a waste of money with no one wanting to be bothered to help people who were learning. read more

This place is a great hang. They make booze+axes as safe of a combo as possible. My friend and I each got flights of their current mead selection. I didn't dislike a single one of them, but Noble Dragon really hit the spot and was our favorite. The axe throwing is a bit tight with the targets being back to back from each other but it's separate enough by tables that they let you put your drinks down and come back to them in between throws. I didn't catch his name, but the employee who hung around to ensure everyone's safety is a really good guy, had interesting conversations regarding the international competitions the shop hosts which I didn't realize they were that poppin'. Sometimes it's fun to find something different. A friend had brought a couple bottles of mead over to our last party. We were downtown and decided to find the place. We walked into a party! It just happened to be their 1yr anniversary. They had door prizes, a band going, ace throwing, mead tastings. What a fun time. The place is rustic. I think designed that way. You walk into what looks like a warehouse. It opens up to a bar with mixed tables and high tops. When it was busy it was hard to get a drink and the payment process was really slow. We came for the axes! No seriously, this place bleeped on my radar for yes, the axe throwing but also becuase I've had a strong interest in trying mead. We got both here! Score! First, 3 flights of mead (tried the whole menu) Several flavors stood out for our light palates - Castaway batch #2 was our #1 - delicate and reminiscent of a beach holiday Jordbaer, a slight strawberry taste, refreshing and bubbly. Secret treasure, lemony and beery too. A song of Hops and mangoes, the scent of mango deterred me but it was quite delicious. Overall, much less of a buzz than beers in general but a nice heady experience. Now, onto the axe throwing extravaganza !!! Fun Fun Fun. Definitely a must try for all. Went here with our friend who lives here locally who had told us that they just started an axe throwing range. The owner was really friendly and really helpful in helping us choose what kind of mead we wanted to try on our mead flight. There are bottles of mead to take home thst were $3 Then after that we did axe throwing range which was really fun! It was $10 for 10 throws! The atmosphere was casual and laid back and wasn't loud like other bars tend to be. When visited Lancaster again, I will definitely come back here. read more

This is an interesting place that we visited last weekend and it's great to see something new pop up. First off - don't let the location or all state insurance signs fool you, because the place has good decor that is appropriately themed! Mead - I've never had so many kinds of mead before but I had entered with the expectations of it being heavy and sweet. The carbonated tastes were not my favourite, but I did enjoy the layers on flavours in some of them. I loved one of them, while my bf hated it. They are generous with their sampler sizes and the owners are quite chatty to help you understand what you might enjoy. The mead menu changes based on what they make, and they had 4 beers as well. I truly loved their bottled ones and at $25 it's a bit pricey for my budget but it is worth it. I'll probably buy it for Christmas. Verdict - it's a great place to explore, and have fun. P.S. they have a Scandinavian version of chess to try which is pretty neat! ETA: they've got a few more games. I got the bottled ciders - lancastrian and cyser. Loved them both and recommend as a celebratory drink. read more

Alright folks, so I'm going to rip the bandaid off on this one and it may hurt JUST a bit. Let me give a quick backstory of how we ended up here. We were going to do a "wine tour" of local spots here, but the weather wouldn't allow us to enjoy the outdoor spaces of the ones we planned to go to. My wife looked up meaderies and this came up. We both enjoy meads. Hell, we've got 30+ at home ready to be opened at some point. So we decided to go cause it had what we like, meads. And let's be honest, throwing an axe is something no one will ever pass up. I wasn't too impressed with this place in terms of a meadery. To give some credibility to having had some, Ive tasted over 100 different flavors from at the minimum, 10 different locations. (New Jersey, Finger lakes area and some here in the state of PA). To me, the meads are more of a cider. Sparkling water, bubbly type with some of them being smooth enough to pass for your what I would consider mead. The pours are generous at 3oz for 5 glasses for $15, so I can't knock it there, but I'd rather get an ounce, 5 drinks for the typical $7-$10 I pay everywhere else. This way I could try more varieties, but not break the bank so to speak. There's board games and card games as well. We went on their videogame day, where classics like Donkey Kong was being played and I think Contra on the other screen, so that was cool to see. The wife and I put some thought into axe throwing cause we are both 32 but have injuries that make us feel 78, so we didn't go axe throw right away, but eventually did. $12.50/person for 10 throws. The guy who was there, gave us some throwing tips and few practice throws before we played a game of 21. I won, just thought I'd put that out there lol. Was definitely worth it. Now another negative was the food. No where on the menu does it say that only Pretzels are available on Sundays. Like what? I was willing to pay for something pricier, the crab and artichoke dip, so give me a chance to get it! Lol. So whatever, I ordered the pretzel, 20-25 minutes pass and the wife's like, I don't think it takes this long for a pretzel, so I gave it a few minutes to close up the tab and go get food. When I go, I tell the ladies behind the counter, who were super nice btw, I never got my food. They apologized and said their system was acting up. My rebuttal though is, if you said to me to take this plastic axe with a number on it to my table and you'll bring it over to me, wouldn't you think, hmm I'm suppose to bring something to someone and not check? So that was annoying and a let down cause the pics of pretzels look great. So would I come back? Most likely no. I'm rarely down this area. If things were better and I'm down here hanging in York or nearby, I'd make the trip. Edit...since the owners replied pretty quick, which is cool. We weren't told it was a "crossover". Just that it's a mead and when we had mentioned we've had meads, we were never told they had some bottled that were what most consider the typical mead. I also get it's not a restaurant, but the menu should just have that said just as a suggestion is all. read more

I have been a huge fan of mead for many years, so I was very excited to hear that Lancaster was getting its very own meadery. And, man-oh-man, was the wait worth it! Meduseld's mead is wonderfully creative and the wide variety of ingredients and flavors will ensure that everyone will find a mead that satisfies their palate. Get a flight (12 samples!) so that you can try them all and get the full experience...my wife and I keep track of what we've tasted on the very handy and complimentary lists that are provided. Once you've picked your favorite(s), you can happily indulge in glasses, pints, or why not also get yourself a drinking horn? It's mead, after all...do it right! Boys day out at the Meadery. I had never had a mead before but they have a huge selection and knowledgeable staff. My recommendation is to get the flight of meads and find the one that you like. Some have an aftertaste and seem to get better the more you drink them. Have fun!! Now the axes. We went on an early Sunday afternoon and we pretty much had the place to ourselves for a bit. Which was good because we were able to get a great tutorial from Julie, who was awesome. Warning, axe throwing can be fun and a hit addictive. Mix in the great mix of Irish and late 90s alternative music and it was a great time out with the guys. I've only recently discovered my love of mead, and I'm ecstatic to have a meadery in Lancaster. If you have not tried mead, you should! Mead is more mild than wine, but packs more kick than beer. Located right across from The Fridge, Meduseld is most certainly worth a visit if you are in the area. I actually prefer it to the fridge. The mead is sweet, but not overtly so, and did not upset my stomach - it mixes well even after a few beers. The interior of the space is well decorated and the owner is great. The vibe is generally very cool, it almost feels like being in a Nordic lodge, except modernized. The live edged tables, shields, and lighting make for a very neat space. Meduseld offers many different kinds of Mead, and offers flights for those who have not tried it before, ranging from dark meads to light meads all made locally with care. The cozy atmosphere, and fact that its typically not too crowded would make this a great place for a date, and I look forward to returning to sip some meade with my wifey! read more

They now have axe throwing to go with your mead experience, sadly I didn't have closed toed shoes so wasn't able to try. Tried a flight of 4 of there meads, all were good with multiple flavor levels. Got to chat with the mead maker? Brewer? Not sure what they are called, but was nice to hear some of the process behind the making of the meads. Excellent place to relax and have a little fun without the "club" or "drunk" bar feel. The staff members are friendly and willing to chat anyone up which makes you feel more at home. It isnt overcrowded right now during the summer months so you do not have to feel like your shouting over everyone else while your out. Also, the axe throwing is fun except please remember to wear closed-toes shoes or they will not let you throw axes or you can wear their community shoes! They do not serve food. read more

Upon entering the halls of Valhalla...wait a second, I didn't die in glorious battle. What is this place. Oh, Meduseld Meadery, which just may be the next best thing to Valhalla. Anyway, upon entering Meduseld I was pleased by the atmosphere. Bright and welcoming with natural wood tables and seats all around. Viking shields and flags hanging around the bar and the coolest backlit dragons I have ever seen in a bar. Secondly I was greeted by their welcoming and friendly staff. Never having been in a mead hall before they took the time to explain to me what mead was and that they had a wide variety of flavors for me to chose from. My group decided to split a few of their flights ( which by the way are served on Viking themed shields so extra bonus points for that ) and I can truly say that they all were delicious and unique in their own ways each. There truly wasn't one of the eleven different ones they had on tap that I didn't enjoy. My personal favorite was the "Red Keep" which was a cherry flavored mead that I found amazingly tasty. As we made our way to a table we noticed that everyone there seemed happy and pleasant. And in the one corner they had a few board games that anyone could grab and take to their table to play, a huge bonus for the group of game lovers we are. Not to mention that they have two axe throwing lanes which, well like I said you could confuse this place for Valhalla, seemed to be intriguing to everyone. I mean, can you feel more Viking like than when you are drinking mead and throwing axes? I think not. So should you stop by Meduseld Meadery? Absolutely yes!!! Their staff will make you feel welcome and at home. This was so much fun! We rented out the mead hall for a birthday celebration this weekend and it was a hit with everybody--including picky teenagers who normally wouldn't abandon their phones for any reason. We got to compete against each other in head-to-head axe throwing, keeping score and busting chops until finally declaring an overall champion for the night. And that's when the guys who work there came out and showed us how its really done--who knew you could do trick shots with axes? Although the food selection is limited, everything we had was really good. Buttery pub pretzels with hot cheese and sweet dessert pretzels with cinnamon and Nutella disappeared quickly, and you could tell that the turkey and smoked salmon wraps were freshly prepared. I tried both the hot mulled mead and the dry mead with juniper berries, and enjoyed both of them very much. I really enjoyed the mead flight, the male bartender was very nice. He explained all of the different kinds to us, gave us personal recommendations and even offered samples before we ordered. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because when we had trouble finding the place, I called to ask their location and a female on the phone laughed at me and said "uh the big building with the giant Meduseld sign on it" that was just plain rude. A hidden gem. I really enjoyed the mead, it's been years since I last had it and it was even better than I remember. I was very intrigued by the axe throwing but was unable to join in, last time I visited my Doctor she told me that for some reason my center of gravity is directly 3 feet above me, making impossible to throw an axe without endangering myself and others around me. My boyfriend and I stumbled across this by accident last night and we LOVED it. It's so hard to find a meadery, and this place did not disappoint. We had a flight with Slainte, A Study in Lavender, Oak Acerglyn, and Harmonious Duo. All we're incredible, but my favorite was the Lavender (but I would say you have to like lavender to appreciate it). The icing on the cake was the axe throwing! It does cost an additional $10 per person but we thought it was well worth the price, especially as there was a guy there to help teach you to throw. We spent almost two hours here and will definitely come back - it was a blast. read more
