Whenever we have guests visiting from Canada or Europe, I like to take them to The Commons. They always enjoy the atmosphere. La La Land Cafe and the ice cream spot are our usual go-to places. Lately, the construction has taken away from the experience a bit, but I am hopeful that once it is finished, things will be even better. I just hope the updates are thoughtful and not simply focused on adding more retail, especially in place of something like the movie theater. It would be great to see additions that truly serve and reflect the community. For example, a fountain with a water show, similar to what you see at the Grove or Americana, would be a strong starting point. People and families already feel overwhelmed by the number of shops, and adding more does not necessarily improve the experience. Take Century City Mall as an example. After its remodel (many years ago) added many more stores, I personally stopped going. As someone who works in marketing, I know the first priority is getting people to visit. If visitors lose interest, as I did with Century City, then adding more shops defeats the purpose. I really hope they do not lose sight of what makes the place special. It would be a shame if short-term decisions ended up hurting the atmosphere that people enjoy. read more

I giving only 2 stars for whats left of the poor turtles in the pond!! Mr. Caruso u are NOT making something beautiful but quite ugly!! It was bad enough to demolish the movie theater and today I noticed only handful of turtles in the pond and barely any Koi fishes!! What is wrong w u?!! Its not all abt $$$ God knows u have enough of it! Let nature remain as beautiful as it has been all these years! My kids are adults now but still talk abt how cute and funny the turtles would be on top of each other and I have taken so many of friends and their kids to see the beautiful turtle pond! I always forget about this place but whenever I'm back, it's always a really nice experience. Early morning appointments which I forgot that there was a Starbucks. It's a chain but there's others coffee shop cafe in the same strip mall. We just happened to be next to Starbucks. The strip mall is pretty massive with loads of parking. There's Ralph's for groceries and a good selection of restaurants. Kings Fish House, BLVD Steakhouse, Marmalade Cafe, Toscanova, SugarFish to name a few. There's loads of others dining in as well as takeout. There's still a Barnes and Nobles book store which isn't too many left. You have a good amount of shopping. Some higher ends with Zimmerman and Elise Walker. Also Lululemon which is pretty much everywhere. If you're looking for accessories and jewelry, there's a pretty big shop, Polachecks. Home stores with Willam Sonoma. There's pretty much a good selection's of things. Even just a stroll along the walkways. Have a seat on one of the benches, and enjoy the turtles in the pond. read more

Gorgeous shopping center with tons to see but the worst connection lol. I always have bad phone connection out here for some reason so checking in can be difficult lol! They have lots of food and stores out in this plaza. Even just walking around can be really peaceful and relaxing. They have a grocery store as well. My experiences have improved since the Kids' Club events and seeing how much the kids enjoy the live turtle and koi pond. Nice way for families to get out on a weeknight. Hi Ho Cheeseburger and Kazu Nori are also rolling in, which makes for better dining options though the outdoor mall is still a bit dated decor-wise (less modern feeling vs Sportmen's Lodge in Studio City). read more

My valley alternative to Palisades Village. Alliteration loving, Calabasas Commons. It is another thoughtfully designed, aesthetically pleasing yet functional Caruso shopping center... sigh. I just adore his developments. Yes this is a shameless plug. Thank you Caruso for beautifying our cities! It's because of the details he puts into them like the cypress lined parking lot with the thoughtful pedestrian path. Yes, please! The fountain with the turtles is a kid magnet. They adore it and look on with such eagerness and enthusiasm! It's so cute. I couldn't resist walking the bridge myself and looking on. We've shopped the Ralph's here which is the most pristine (& possibly largest?) Ralph's I've ever visited. Shopped a few of the stores such as Sees, and dined at Toscanova, Le Pain Quotidian, Porta Via. The ambiance feels good. It feels pedestrian focused because it is. The connection behind Cafe Marmalade connects to the local library I discovered. Who knew? What a thoughtful community connect. You feel miles away from ugly Ventura Blvd. even though you are a stones throw. It's a breath of fresh air coming here and it has plenty of wonderful eateries to satiate your appetite. read more

I encountered two dead turtles, run over I believe because of Caruso placing them in an area very close to a large intersection. I asked them to do something about it last week but nothing has been done yet. In fact, it seems like they've moved more turtles to that area, such that more are likely to die. read more

Saw it being built and been going there on occasion since. So many good stores and restaurants. Love that parking is still free and isn't ticketed. I avoid that. . People complain about the economy but they don't seem to see that The Commons has become more high end every year. It's packed most of the times and the crowd is diverse. Safety might need help. Witnessed a bloody situation on 10/24 outside of porta via, lots of customers, families and kids were able to witness it and it lasted over 30'min for the situation to calm down. I was there with at least 50 other witnesses yet nothing to be found on the news. read more

A sizable shopping area with free parking, lots of space, and some great eateries like Kings Fish and Sugarfish. Don't expect the Grove or Americana as far as quality and overall ritziness, but this place does cover a variety of sectors. Businesses include a bookstore, movie theater, ice cream parlor, restaurants, juicery, and more. Great date night or hangout spot with family/friends. A very nice suburban retail center with both essential and luxury brands. It is reasonably walkable, although the linear layout limits the availability of public open space, it's a very pleasant shopping destination that is enjoyable to visit. read more

Before our Rotary Club meeting with the District Governor, I had a few glorious minutes to explore The Commons in Calabasas which is slated for some significant changes. Created as a European style mall, this open air U shaped collection has fountains, statues and turtles which make this space nicer than most any other shopping/restaurant space in Los Angeles County. read more

It's alright, it's okay. It's definitely not a destination place or an attraction like the Americana or The Grove, but it could be (hint...hint...developers). We come here to dine, watch a movie or browse the retail stores. It is a classy and elegant place. It gets busy but you'll always find a parking spot. I live in Americana at Brand ( above Din thai fung) and I heard a lot about Carusos sister properties Commons and Grove. I have been in Grove and its fun ( they dont have apartments and condo like us) but it was very nice shopping experience and plus they have more restaurants. I never visited Commons until this winter because I was in the area. Its very interesting cute little coffee/pit stop place. I cant call it shopping mall because a very few shops are available. Few nice restaurants with cute outdoor dining but I wouldn't drive specifically here from Glendale. I think Americana is much more fun or maybe I got used to it because I live there. Perfect combination of markets, merchandise and food shops. Has my go to Ralph's and Barnes and Noble. Polacheks for watches and Marmalade for brunch, lunch and dinner. Plenty of parking here, and I love it that all the parking spaces are slightly oversized to keep door dings at a minimum. From retail to five star restaurants, the commons at Calabasas and is where it's at! Marmalade Cafe is a must go to for the best morning coffee drinks! Jeni's ice cream is a must for desert! They have cute little bistro tables for outdoor seating to enjoy your drinks and ice cream. They even have a theater playing the latest movies. There is free parking however keep in mind this is a popular area and therefore it might take you a few tries to find a spot. They have great stores to shop at like Lululemon, Paper source, Barnes & Nobles, and Drybar. If you have extra time to spare they have live turtles swimming in the pond and a quiet library in the back. Overall I truly enjoyed visiting the commons. read more

I remember when this spot was being built and became the highlight of Calabasas back in the late 90s. It has changed a lot since then, no more Johnny Rockets or Cold Stones...man those were HUGE staples back in the day. Now replaced with healthier stuff like Sunflife and Sugarfish. I don't know how the turtles got there. I heard someone I sorta knew bought those baby turtles from Chinatown and let them go there and they mate like rabbits! So many of them! Are there even fish in there anymore? I like the turtles, I say hello to them and they swim right up to you. They are definitely a good additive to the spot. The parking lot can get a little hectic...but there's a lot of good stuff here. Love that Barnes and Nobles is still standing. A good Ralphs. I love Kings Fish House - they just remodeled. Love the theater, and Jeni's Ice Cream is a good addition to the spot as well. Ahhh the Commons...! So many memories here. Jaden Smith did a music video on it and Calabasas is considered a lifestyle now apparently to Refinery29. I grew up here, but no joke the last job I worked at, when they found out I grew up here asked me, "OMG, I wanna pick your brain, what was it like growing up in Calabasas?" Like that's a thing now? My kids love to come here & just watch the fish & turtles for hours on end. They're definitely not alone in that sentiment as they always find other young children to talk to. What I don't like about this shopping center is the parking. It feels like there wasn't too much thought put into parking layout so there are often jams just due to people trying to make turns in and out of the different aisles. The rows are just so haphazardly laid out. It's annoying. I have just figured out one area that I know I can easily get in and out of and I stick to that area. It's a bit of a walk for some of the businesses, but I'd rather walk than find myself all turned around as to where I am parked. read more

We had visited the commons maybe 15 years ago and honestly it hasn't changed since then. The parking seems to be plentiful for the number of stores and restaurants still open during COVID. It has a cute little pond area that seems to get most of the attention. read more

Im actually really upset and this ruined my whole day. My daughter and I were leaving rite aid and walking by the book store and I see all these bees on the ground struggling and I'm trying to help them and they could not fly and getting stomped on by people walking by....So many dying and then we look and there is thousands on the ground under a bush. I was worried for them, animals plus humans who may be allergic so after trying to save the ones on the walk way I went to find security and the dude slipped they killed them. It might be one of the fanciest strips I have ever been. It is not my first time in here and will not be the last, it is always very pleasant. Restaurants now are terraces, which goes very well with the amazing weather. Free tables are available for little "picnics" as well. There are many shops (sephora, occitane, barnes & noble, william sonoma, chico's, paper source, lulemon, etc) restaurants and a cinema. Free parking available. Lovely lights at night! read more

Probably one of the nicest fanciest strip mall I've seen so far. There is a movie theater, that is not as updated as some theaters out there, but at least, it is very conveniently found here. They have a bookstore, several good clothing stores, several gift retail stores, a drug store, some restaurants, and a nice decorative pond complete with turtles! Large free parking lot. read more

I get it... I do. Y'all are trying to be fancy. So there are the teeny tiny signs that are so discreet they're in fact, almost impossible to see. And the parking lot is largely unmarked because signage is so... gauche. It would be really declasse to indicate where the main exit out of the shopping center is. Let trucks unload stock in the back? How un-Calabasas like! We'll have our Ralphs trucks just unload in the front during the morning when folks are zipping around trying to find the damn Starbucks. There are a lot of things here, but good luck trying to find any of them. I drove around the entire shopping center twice trying to find the Starbucks (there are actually two of 'em and I couldn't find either one). Amazingly, there is a movie theater. But there's absolutely no signage or Marquee that is visible from the street so if you aren't from Calabasas (and really if you aren't - what are you doing here? Kardashian hunting?) you'd never find the theater. Most irritating... the lack of signage and directional signs in the parking lot. There is no indication when you need to turn to head to the main (center) red light to exit the shopping center, which leads to all the high-end SUVs cutting through the parking lot looking for a way out.
