The parking is limited but the hotel staff were extremely helpful in telling us where we can park . It's right on the college campus which added a level of comfort and safety because campus police were literally right next-door! There's a coffee shop, two restaurants, and a 7-Eleven right around the corner. As well as all kinds of additional restaurants and places to go down the street. It's not a large hotel , just one elevator, but the staff were so friendly, the room was clean, and they were able to accommodate us with a rollaway bed. We would stay there again! read more

I'm gonna try to make this short and (not so) sweet. I say that because The Conwell Inn really isn't that bad, but our experience definitely knocked a few stars off this review. You see my wife and I stayed at The Conwell Inn back at the end of September when we were looking for a reasonably-priced place to spend the night near Philly for a concert. Conwell is actually on the Temple University campus and so it's probably intended more for parents to stay over when visiting their college kids, but the Inn is open to any and all who want book it. Now perhaps the Yelp stars should have been a warning, but nothing noted in the reviews had me that worried. I mean (going a little out of order here) our room was honestly fine to stay over for a night. Yeah there was no mini-fridge and the sink area lacked any counter space so those were small annoyances, but perhaps they could've been more overlooked had our initial entry into The Conwell Inn went differently. Rewinding now, after finding the way into the parking lot area (not an easy feat), we walked into the small but somewhat cozy lobby and waited for the staff member to return. The little golden sign said "Front Desk Will Return In One Moment" and so we stood around for a few of those moments...moments turned into minutes. Nobody seemed to be around. We continued to wait, but tried to troubleshoot this. I went to the cafe next door and asked the people working there but they had no idea. I came back in and my wife was calling the front desk only to hear the phone ring from the back little office we could see into that was empty. There was a bell behind the desk I pulled out and dinged a few times with no results. And I even yelled down the back hall where the laundry sounded like it was being machine washed and there was no answer. Another couple came into the lobby with similar reasons for staying (a concert) and were also amazed that no one was around and there was no way to contact anyone. Finally, a younger man came back in with what looked like a bag from a shopping trip. He apologized, but also pointed out that he left the sign...yeah that sign is helpful only if it was for a moment, but it wasn't! He was friendly and got us checked in fast, but I can't help but think if we were in a rush or there had been an emergency what would have happened. Definitely an unsafe situation and something that I'm sure doesn't happen often (the next morning there were two girls working behind the desk), but I wouldn't be surprised if this has happened before. Overall, The Conwell Inn isn't bad for the price, the room is fine for a night (albeit missing a few things), and the potential proximity to not being in the busier part of Philly is helpful, but throw in that questionable front desk experience and you can forget us ever staying there again. I'll pay a little more to be at an actual hotel and you should do the same. read more

It's right on campus and has a certain charm, but the bathrooms are so incredibly small, they have the weirdest hangers that left marks on my clothes, no refrigerator, and no real amenities. I wouldn't choose to go back. read more

This inn was one of the cutest we've ever stayed at! It's like a hidden gem, nestled between huge buildings (Temple University). Everything you want or need is within a mile or two. There's tons of security, we felt safe and comfortable coming and going even late at night. Helpful and friendly staff. The only complaints I have are pretty minor: there are no refrigerators in the rooms and the parking is very limited. We paid extra for parking but it wasn't guaranteed. If you left the property, you might not find a parking spot. We attended a concert at The Met so thankfully it was close enough to walk to. Would stay here again and definitely recommend. read more

I booked this room in February 2022 because I am on a road trip and I was planning to be in Philadelphia the end of October for three nights. I wasn't told this is a place you couldn't pull up right to the front. The front is a walkway. I did see the ramp on their photo on line, however it didn't dawn on me that I would have to bring a cart to my car and then try to bring a cart full of luggage up the ramp to get into the building, I was helped by the front desk person. The day I arrived temp was 70. Room doesn't come with a fridge, you would have to pay for one to have one. So I had ordered one before my arrival. I asked about the AC, she proceeded to tell me that the AC might not work. I'm like excuse me; she said the AC is controlled by the University and they tend to turn it off around this time. I asked what if the room is hot, she just shook her head and said it's out of our control. We went to my room and she checked the air and luckily it was working. There is no phone in the room and there was no fridge that I ordered. She brought up the fridge which looked like a college dorm room fridge, all banged up. There are stains on the wall, and the walls in the bathroom. The room carpet is filthy and stains everywhere including the desk chair. The wallpaper is coming off on various walls in the room. The hallway and elevator is hot and stuffy. Keep in mind this Inn/hotel is on a campus, so you will hear noise throughout the night of partying. No counterspace in the bathroom, but a small glass above the sink. Water fills in the tub ankle deep. My first morning I went to the front desk on my way out and told them how unhappy I was with this lodging and I mentioned the water in the tub. They said they would relay to the manager Justin. I wasn't in my room as I was going out for the two days I was there and I have a dog so they couldn't come in. One morning I saw Justin, I'm sure he saw me. He never attempted to call me or reach out to me regarding my concerns or the bathtub. He totally ignored me I have photos but I will post later, the wifi signal is weak and photos won't post. I do NOT recommend this place. read more

What is most important to you? I wanted to be able to walk to my event on campus. I took an Uber to get there so parking was not an issue for me. Room was fine and staff were nice college kids. WIFI did not work. Week signal and unusable. Not sure if just my room has this issue? I did not expect to have this problem on a college campus. I will probably stay again anyway because of the location. read more

I've stayed here several times in the past year with our child during her initial college search and then the revisits and ultimately orientation and school events. Initially, we LOVED the Conwell Inn - it was quaint, super clean, and super convenient (on campus with decent eats and a 7-11 steps away, & reserved paid parking). During our first two stays, our rooms were immaculate (and I mean IMMACULATE) and I left a 5 star review. For the last 3 stays, SOMETHING gross was wrong with our room - hairs found in our bed and/or tub, musty smell, visible signs of water damage in our room, stains in carpet/chairs. It's also been frustrating that the front desk staff are performing triple duty (front desk, folding laundry, & cleaning rooms - yes we saw our front desk person toting a cart cleaning rooms the same day she checked us in!) so it's not uncommon to find the front desk unoccupied when you need them. Don't get me wrong, they do always show up so you're not waiting too long, but you don't ever want to be in a rush and someone should at least greet you when you arrive. Let me say too, the staff has always been super friendly. Message to Conwell: if you're frequently not going to be at the front desk, access to the building should be monitored somehow so you can see when folks arrive so they don't have to wait too long OR maybe have doorbell access so unauthorized people don't have access to the building while at the same time you're notified when someone is at the desk. I know I'd feel like a "guest" and safer! All in all, we understand this is a small, old building that was converted from a house, however, the poor condition overshadows the beauty and attraction of the quaintness making this a net negative for my family and me. We've decided we won't be back a fourth time. Some major investment needs to be put into this place and they should attempt to fix the front desk staffing problem. Here is a logistical question for you.... If you make reservations in May, for dates in August, would the hotel management have enough time to contact their pending guests, and let them know that the hotel is CLOSED? We flew in from CA and wanted to stay at the Conwell because it is on the Temple University (not run by the university) campus. I entered the campus police office, next door, and was informed that we are far from the first guests to discover the hotel closed upon arrival, and sadly, won't be the last. YELP! Requires a star rating, but I would give it a -5 if I would. Scrambling for a new hotel while standing on the sidewalk's intersection is the pits. read more

This place was great. Much better than we were expecting. First, they're pet friendly, but still clean. Rusty had a great time during the visit. The room we got was a nice-sized suite, not bad for $200 all-in including the pet fee. Nice spot on campus and decent parking although a bit annoying to have to pay for parking and finding the lot isn't so easy. Nice friendly staff and cookies and coffee downstairs. Right near the dorms if you're coming to visit someone. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm in the area. read more

Cozy, clean, can't beat location if you have a student at Temple - right on campus. In the process of updating right now, rooms are nicely decorated but you can see some dings. Bed was comfy, quiet at night. A little squirrelly to find at first - small, easy-to-miss alley leads to parking behind it. Overall I enjoy the cozy feel, friendly staff. This review is for my 4th visit to the Conwell Inn as a Temple parent. It may be my last visit. As others posted. Location can't be beat. Rooms are large. And there is a nice coffee shop on ground level. Front desk staff is courteous. But it is tired and dirty. Lamp shades ripped. Carpet and lobby chairs stained. Entry way has a horrible smell. What really prompted this review is the parking situation. When we arrived at 9pm we were told there was no parking available and we'd have park in a garage on another part of campus. Apparently you should reserve your parking spot ahead. Although in my previous stays I have never noticed this policy and certainly never directly informed. I always show up, notify the front desk that I have a car in one of their marked spots, and pay to park. Not this time. Bad timing as my wife has a torn ACL and really couldn't walk to the remote garage. We'll be staying in city center from now on. Good hotels at similar price and never had a problem parking (for a fee) in their garage. read more

I loved staying at the Conwell Inn! The location is right in the middle of campus with many places to eat nearby. There's a nice little coffee shop adjacent to the lobby. For me, the location was a dream. I felt very safe even alone at night. Plus, it's literally a courtyard away from the Fox Business school--I could roll out of bed and be at my conference--if I didn't have to dress up in business casual, that is. The rooms are clean, large, and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to be welcoming and friendly. Parking is available for an extra change. The biggest challenge is finding it. My GPS had trouble so make sure you bring along the directions on their website. read more

I have stayed here twice so far. My first experience was far better although I paid roughly the same price for a similar room. The room was very quiet, the bed was huge and very comfortable and the black out curtains certainly helped. My second stay was mediocre, not that I can offer any concrete complaints, but I had a corner room by the fire exit, I could hear the construction going on outside, the bed was smaller and bedding felt not as comfortable and there was hardly any space in the bathroom to lay out my things. Walls are paper thin, bathrooms are cramped and outdated (with horrible amenities), and as you fall asleep in your bed, you'll find yourself rolling into the center of a mattress that hasn't been replaced in (what seems like) decades. Whatever you do, don't stay on be second floor above the coffee shop. You'll wake up with their music playing in your head. Oh wait! The Conwell Inn is a nice, reasonably priced hotel right on the Temple campus. We were pleasantly surprised by the room; it's very spacious with a living room with desk, couch, and tv. Our room had a separate bedroom with a queen bed. Lots of windows and natural light. The water pressure in the shower is good. The bathroom is clean and well-supplied with towels and toiletries. The biggest problem is a lack of outlets. Most of the light is provided by floor lamps, not ceiling fixtures. It's not a problem for me, but some people might not like that feature. There is parking in a little lot adjacent to the hotel. We rented a parking spot, but they were all full when we arrived for a late check in. The clerk gave us our permit and said that we could park in a spot that was for the cafe attached to the hotel. We didn't have any problems but moved to an open spot the next morning. The parking lot is very narrow and even following the directions on the website, I almost missed it. When you're instructed to turn, trust the GPS. It is indeed the parking lot. The lot is off of Beasley's Walk. The hotel check-in is a short walk across the parking lot, on Polett Walk, right beside the campus police station. The staff are friendly, and the neighborhood is good. There are fast food restaurants, sit down restaurants, pharmacies, and a grocery store within walking distance. We were only an hours walk from Love Park and The Ben Franklin Institute. There were a lot of Ubers and Lyfts around. read more

Nice little hotel at the Temple University campus. The staff was very nice and helpful. They have a coffee machine in their small but cozy lobby, and a coffee house adjacent to the hotel. The only thing that keeps this small, quaint and lovable inn from getting a fifth star is the size. There's nothing they can do about that, but getting a room around graduation, huge sporting events or things like that is difficult. With that said, I would prefer to have that problem than to open a holiday inn or some huge chain like that on campus. I love the small business atmosphere that Temple makes possible and I hope it always stays like that. I've never stayed here myself but I write my review for my family members who don't even know what yelp is. They've always been treated kindly here and they always recommend to friends! read more

Well maintained, very clean, good plumbing, comfy bed and great staff. Reserve parking upon booking and call for best rates. My husband and I are parents of a Temple Student and wanted the opportunity to stay in the Inn on the campus grounds. Great location, right in the middle of campus surrounded by beautiful historical architectural buildings. The Inn itself is beautifully decorated and fits in well with those buildings surrounding it. As we were checking in we were welcomed by a young lady that Thursday that did not offer a smile or a warm welcome. Every response to our questions were met with a monotone flat affect, using as few words as possible response. This was so unlike the young man that greeted us on Saturday morning. He was full of smiles, laughter and a warm greeting. He welcomed our humor as he humbly offered directions. The room was large and clean. I had to laugh at the pillows, they were so out of shape, lumpy and bumpy and was comical as to how they did not go with the elegant decor. We made the best of them. On Saturday morning we were awakened by a blower outside your window at 7:30am and the construction going on outside our window. We found the temperature in the room just right as it lent itself to a good mid-day nap. The warm cookies were also a great treat as we exited our room for the late afternoon. While taking a shower, we found that the water was not draining quickly and quickly built up to about 5" of standing water while taking a shower. This could definitely be improved. I may give it one more try because of its location. read more

Cute Inn, obviously perfect location to Temple, easy access to the Hospital as well. Fresh cookies in the lobby and coffee/tea 24/7 are always nice. Coffee place next door. Safe, friendly staff, very clean, decently comfortable beds. I thought it was a little noisy at first as it is on campus but by the time it was time to go to bed it was perfectly quiet. If you are traveling to Temple University and looking for a nice place to stay, I would definitely consider staying at The Conwell Inn. A nicely maintained Inn right on the University Campus. We recently stayed at the Conwell for my brother's graduation and found it to be clean and cozy. It is located close to the subway line and has on-campus parking (for $15/night). One draw back is that the University is not in a great neighborhood and there is very little to do in the area. However, the parking (not in a garage, but literally right beside the hotel and campus police station) made it easy to get our car and go elsewhere for dining. We thought it was lovely being on campus and enjoyed the hotel and staff. read more
