A friend turned me on to this place and it is unbelievable. My favorite is the 7 layer cookie which is dipped in chocolate, but every thing we had was perfect and we tried a lot including the fig bar, oatmeal blueberry, raspberry hamantaschen, peanut butter domes and pistachio cookies. I've never had cookies like this before. I've bought the same types of cookies elsewhere at other bakeries and literally threw them away after tasting the ones at the cookie jar. The flavor and freshness are just incredible. I asked the person getting my cookies how they were able to provide cookies so fresh when almost every other bakery I've gone to doesn't even come close. This was probably the cutest little bakery i've ever been to, and I loved the huge assortment of cookie jars on the wall. The negatives - all of the cookies and cupcakes are refrigerated in their little displays. I ordered an assortment of cupcakes and cookies and they all had a refrigerator aftertaste. You could tell they were refrigerated and the frosting on the cupcakes were all hard from the refrigeration as well. I wouldn't eat at this bakery again for that reason. read more

I was recently in this establishment to purchase a few cupcakes. The white woman in front of me ordered a cake or something and her order came up to about fifty dollars, which she paid in cash, two twenties and a ten dollar bill. The young lady helping her rang her up, took her money, gave the woman change and concluded the purchase. I ordered two cupcakes totaling about five dollars. I paid with a ten dollar bill. The young lady proceeded to scan my bill on a counterfeit detection. When asked if all bills had to be scanned the young lady stated "Yes, any bill over five dollars." My confusion comes from why the white woman who paid before me with fifty dollars worth of bills over five dollars was not scanned as well. A policy to check bills for security reasons is perfectly fine and acceptable IF it is implemented in fair and equal manner. As a black woman, I am very confused why my ten dollar bill for two cupcakes was chosen for this extra scrutiny. I will ponder that while I spend my suspicious bills elsewhere. read more

I love this place. Spectacular cookies mixed with incredible service. In my opinion, this place has the best cupcakes/cookies in Staten Island. You can ask about the simplest thing and they will go out of their way to do it for you. I cannot say enough good things about this establishment. Oh and one last thing, they have a lemon cookie that was the most incredible cookie I have ever had in my life. It had a lemon "doughnut" filling that was drop dead delicious. read more

I was never a fan of Cake Chef, but they got it right with the cookie jar. The whole concept was done perfectly. There is no better place to bring the kids for cookies and coffee than this. Huge selection, displayed right and taste good too. This is about as good as it gets. read more

So after two bad experiences I felt I should rate this place. I had been telling my coworkers about this place for quite sometime. I finally worked them up to get a request to bring some goodies so I did. In the brownies I personally found egg shells and not a little bit. I had to toss the piece I had out and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one who had shells. It was embarrassing. Then today I came to treat my son and right out the bag is hair!!! Found my new favorite pastry shop, even better than those in Brooklyn. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have a large assortment of goodies. Went to the cookie jar today with my daughter who was looking for a specific cookie jar she had seen in the store before. We did not see the one she was looking for so we waited our turn and asked the sales person who told us "If you don't see it out here then we probably don't have it. We don't have anything to do with it we just have what our boss brings in." there was no offer of looking in the back, no offere of calling the boss to see if one could be gotten, not even an offer of the boss will be here on such and such a day and you can call and speak to him/her. I do not care how good their product is I do not think I will return if that is the kind of people employed there. read more

By far my FAVORITEEEE cookie/dessert shop on Staten Island. Everything, no matter what cookie or pastry, is $11 dollars a pound. There is no hassle of separating the orders because some cookies cost more or less. Everything is the same. I even ordered 5 pounds of them to bring to work. They were very accommodating and had the order ready for me when I arrived. Plus, my coworkers went crazy for them! My company is in New Jersey so they had never really heard of The Cookie Jar. The must buys: Nutella Delight, Peanut Butter Delight, Caramel Oatmeal Square, Macadamia Coconut Square, Peanut Square, Raspberry Pecan Square. I am not, by any means, saying to only buy these cookies. The rest are fantastic too! HECK, BUY THEM ALL!!!! This is the kind of place where you walk in with the intention of having one cookie, JUST ONE, and being on your best behavior. However, the second you walk into the shop you know that plan went out the window fast. You are going to buy at least a pound, and probably feel ashamed after eating half of it. This place is definitely worth breaking your diet for. Don't even step foot into the shop if you don't intend to gorge yourself like a gluttonous pig. If I could I would give this place a half star. When business sucks, it makes all their products look and taste bad. I went to this store on Sunday, to buy at least 2lbs of cookies to deliver to a good family member, whose mother passed away. I got there around 3:50pm (the close at 4pm) waited in line, then asked young sales girl to wrap for me a tray of cookies. She told me there are trays of cookies for sale right here on a counter. (There was only one) I said those don't look like a lot of cookies and asked how many ponds were there. She told me a pound so I said I'll need at least 2 lbs. she says sorry we are about to close and can't do it . Then she asked a manager and manager said something, possibly, in another language , not sure, and the sales girl said sorry can't do it! I worked in a bakery and whenever a customer walked in to the store and the doors were open, as a good business, we had to a "cater" to that customer. A tray of cookies is NOT hard to put together. I would never go back !!! I told all my family, friends, and coworkers about what happened and they were shocked , said would never go there again. I just had a jack and Jill shower for my daughter and future son in law and the desserts were from cookie jar. We had an assortment of cupcakes which were displayed on a tiered stand as well as a variety of cookies. I have to say they were the best cupcakes I have ever had and as usual the cookies were exceptional. People were calling me the next day to find out where everything was from. Absolutely the best cookies ever. I purchased the mix already made up and every cookie was great - you know how some cookie mixes there are some that are terrible - not these. I can't even zero on one special one, they are all delicious. And the cookie jars on the wall are so pretty to look at. I think you can pick out a jar and put cookies in it as a unique gift! I think the cookie jar has delicious cookies, the service is great, i love the way the exterior and interior looks. Their cookies melt in your mouth. The store is very cute with one wall covered from floor to ceiling with cookie jars. The cookies were good too and very reasonable at $10 a pound. I'm only giving them 3 stars because the staff is rude and super slow. I think it took them about 15 minutes to make a cup of tea for the customer before us. read more
