Very rarely do I even waste my time writing a negative review but I have never been treated the way I was. The place was busy when we arrived shortly before lunch time. I thought I'd help the wait staff by grabbing our own menus after waiting a bit to be greeted & served. I was met by a very nasty remark from the woman who proudly calls herself the owner (I'd be embarrassed to admit that after providing such poor customer service), not only did she make multiple nasty remarks about it after I had already apologized and explained I was simply trying to get a head start on figuring out what we wanted to order to save some time, but she had the audacity to tell me "leave her restaurant" as I was already on my way out. Needless to say I do not recommend coming here and wasting your valuable time and money. Owner should reevaluate her attitude and maybe not be in the service business if that's how she treats new customers. Response to owner: To be clear, the wait time wasn't the issue, your attitude and poor customer service is. The teenage employee was the only positive about our experience. She was sweet and we had nothing but positive interactions with her. She apologized for the wait. We switched to the open table with no clear signage that it was "reserved" because my son was asleep and it was next to the couch I laid him on. You could've just communicated this to us and we would've happily moved. I did tell her I was just grabbing menus before I took them from the open basket on the counter and she said nothing. The lemonade was a misunderstanding which I apologize for as well, it was brought to us after my husband followed up on it. I asked to confirm what time lunch was because the she said she "thought it wasn't being served yet" and didn't provide a time. Accountability and self reflection goes a long way. Stopped for breakfast one morning and breakfast turned into lunch due to the horrible service. Food was just ok. Nothing to crave or go back for.... Just basic. Service was horrible and the reason I wouldn't go back. The young lady was the sole server and couldn't do more then one thing at a time. Asking for more coffee, ketchup, napkins went unanswered. It wasn't just us either as everyone was waiting for something. She literally would being the coffee into the dining area and fill one table then go back instead of to the other tables seeing if they needed more. Kinda mind blowing and confusing. We came back and were a little disappointed. Arrived at 11:30 on a Saturday. Very slow service. There were people at 3 tables when we walked in - and we had to wait 5 minutes to be greeted and seated. Then, it took 10 minutes to get breakfast menus, water and place settings. Then another 5 minutes to place our order. When the another table got seated at noon, they were given lunch menus. We would have liked to have ordered off of lunch menus if they were offered to us. The food came at the 50 minute mark of walking in. On the other hand, the food was very good and the value for the prices was very good. My wife had the short stack plate with very large and fluffy pancakes. Her ham was also tasty. My breakfast quesadilla was large and well done. Food was served hot and fresh. The decor is changed - no more mural - just a flat teal wall. Floors are a pretty hardwood, but need to be cleaned. Our server was very friendly but was very busy. Clearly they are short staffed but they should be up front about that and acknowledge it. We would still recommend this place but wish it was like our first time in. read more

If my review was just for ambience and service it would be 5 stars. I love the stained glass and the sitting area and murals and our waitress was very nice and attentive. And my food was good too but nothing special. I had the cinnamon french toast with apple compote and just wasn't blown away. But the price was very reasonable and I did enjoy it. This rating will not be based on the food as we unfortunately did not get to try it. The disappointment started as soon as we walked in. We were traveling back from Galena on a Sunday morning and found Stella's online and decided to give it a shot. The menu looked good. As soon as we entered we felt out of place. No one acknowledged us. We had to go ask someone if we were supposed to be seated or if we could sit down anywhere we liked. A gentleman we assumed was a busboy told us we could sit wherever. We were then ignored completely. Eventually my sister went up to ask if we were supposed to order in front and was told someone would come on over and take our order. She gave her a few menus. We eventually flagged down a waitress and asked for coffee. No one brought us water or anything. The same waitress who got us coffee asked us "did she take your order" and we told her no one had. She said "oh ok, I'll just take it then" as if we were an inconvenience. We gave her our order but she didn't write anything down or ask about what kind of toast we wanted. My mom had to ask specifically what kind and then she didn't bother to wait around to ask us. More time passed and we watched as tables around us got served--coffee, water, etc. We continued to be ignored. This place seems like a spot where they have quite a few regulars and since we weren't, we weren't treated as priority. My sister did speak with the manager and kindly gave him our feedback. The bright spot is that he was nice, apologetic, and thanked her for the feedback. Overall disappointing experience and pretty abysmal customer service. read more

I stopped here on my way home from a business trip and was glad I did. The building has history which is preserved and honored in this restaurant. It has very high and interesting ceilings. The Greek omelet was delicious and the hash browns were quite good. The pancake was too thick in the middle and a wee bit undercooked. I wouldn't bother with the pancake if get back there again. The service was friendly and my coffee cup stayed full. The tables are spread out nicely so that nobody feels crowded and the street views are ample with the tall windows. I've always enjoyed the look and feel of well kept small towns like this. They also sell fresh baked bread loaves. I think one was raisin bread and the other looked like some sort of wheat loaf. I have eaten at Stella's several times in the past six months, but my last experience was definitely worth yelping about. My husband and I took our 12-year-old granddaughter with two of her best friends on a busy Friday morning. As the girls scrutinized the menu, I could tell they were questioning the options. Plain pancakes or lunch (we arrived at 10 am). So, I asked the waitress if they could make chocolate chip pancakes for them. After checking with the kitchen, our delightful waitress, said yes!! My traditional breakfast was served perfectly with the addition of homemade bread toasted. They were setup for weekend karaoke so, the girls also had some fun on the stage. We ordered the turkey club special, Southwest burger and big Mcburger, which were all delicious and really reasonably priced! Really low key place and BYOB. I see this place through the eyes of someone who has always wanted to own a place like this, but has been too chicken to take the leap. And as someone who has a friend who has also worked very hard, struggling through disappointment to finally find success with his own cafe and pie establishment. When my family stopped in while on an antiquing day trip, I knew I had chosen to stop here having looked online for a place to eat while passing through. They had no idea, but were soon as smitten as I. Though the server/owner was the only one serving the dining room, she did a good job of covering the folks in the space and though she moved with urgency she never made you feel anxious as she made time to appreciate our happiness with our meals. If you want to live this life running, running, running, stuffing your gullet with mosigre importance put on the speed of service than the food you could be enjoying, perhaps you shouldn't stop here.
