I lived through the 90s coffeehouse culture, and it was sad to see a lot of those places replaced by soulless Starbucks and Paneras where you are not encouraged to linger, or if you do, the people lingering are on laptops. I came in a Friday afternoon, and it was nice to see customers of all ages enjoying drinks and food in this cute space. The world needs more third spaces, and this seems like a good one. I got an na strawberry mojito spritzer, and it was delicious. Bought some coffee beans to try later. There is something on the menu for coffee drinkers and those who don't like it.

I took my cousins here for brunch. They wanted to try the Dubai chocolate crepe, I got a Yafai, and I also got some kataifi rolls to-go for my parents. I don't care what anyone says, pistachio, chocolate, strawberry, and crunchy kataifi bits is downright delicious (but I will admit it was expensive). The Yafai had a strong flavor for the spices, but the coffee side was really weak (according to my personal coffee preference). The kataifi rolls were pretty good though. The design of the place is really slick and modern, and the big map on the wall is real neat.

This place is incredible! We stopped in today and ordered take out and everything was delicious! The pistachio latte had a very clear real pistachio taste and was just the right amount of sweet. We also tried the signature latte and it tasted pretty much like a nicely spiced chai but with coffee. It was actually not very sweet but that's not necessarily a bad thing, because you can always add sweetness. The Dubai strawberry crepe was a little pricey but absolutely delicious; large and nicely stuffed with strawberries, with tons of pistachios and chocolate. I would order it again in a heartbeat. The Yemeni cheese crepe had a much stronger flavor of honey than of cream cheese, but was still very tasty. The location is very clean, looks new, and well-decorated. The service was a teeny bit slow but they only had 2 people working so that's understandable. Overall, an excellent experience!

Decent cup of coffee and decent cup of chai. Dessert options look/present great but didn't try them because staff seemed to be too busy too know details about ingredients (posted sign near the cash register asked for leeway due to new/training employees, therefore I didn't want to wait any longer to get my order than I already was). The Wi-Fi password at the register didn't work. VERY noisy atmosphere for most of the time when I was there, and fairly busy. The place quieted down a bunch after a large group of chatty women left and the background music stopped. Perhaps more soundproofing materials can make it easier to have a conversation across the table for the times when it is busy? Aside from the above, the room looks great and clean, the coffee and chai we had were presented well/looked great and tasted fine/as expected. I've seen images shared by others of very interesting-looking food options from the menu but I wasn't about to pay $15(!!! yikes!!!) for a crepe to see how it tastes. I'll give this place another try, and I'm happy to see them here. They are open -much- later than most of the area's local coffee places are, they offer more coffee options than their competition (who truly need to step up their coffee game if they want to be relevant), and they are in a great location with plenty of free, untimed, parking in a large parking lot shared with a number of other great restaurants and businesses (including the awesome Thai Hut, which is -definitely- worth a visit). The staff were cordial. Four stars of of five.

It just opened, hasn't even been opened a week and I've been here twice already! The pistachio lattes here are so yummy! I've tried both hot and iced. The Turkish coffee is also extremely good and it comes out on a tray. Someone suggested the almoka latte so I tried that too, it's good, just not quite my personal style. The service is so great considering the short amount of time it's been opened! They have a good system in place. Wall decor of the large map is so fun. The pastries I have tried are the dubai chocolate crepe, triple chocolate crepe and the cheese pie. All are amazing! The crepes are sweet/sharable. This place is unique to the area and is going to do really good, I know it! My 3 year old asked if she could live here.

I went there for work today. Their cheese cake was so good...I would say it's the best around this area. The serving people were a little shy but very friendly. They put efforts in keeping their dining environment clean. This would be my fav place for study/work during my stay in this area this summer!

Such a unique and fun experience. We tried the chai tea, the AlMoka signature latte and the Dubai strawberries. Everything has SO much flavor and hit all the cravings. Super cute place to come and hangout, try new and exciting treats and pastries, and drinks.

Perfect addition to the Rockford coffee scene! I got their signature latte and it was great! Perfect sweetness with spices that reminded me of chai. Decor and vibes are also great. Excited to go back and try more!

Always in search of good coffee houses. Found one.Family owned. Clean, beautiful ambiance. Music was enjoyable but not overpowering. Friendly service all led to a comfortable relaxing environment. I had an Iced Almoka Signature Latte which definitely tasted better than most I've had. Flavorful- smooth but not overpowering. Can't wait to return and drink my way through the menu and Indulge is some of those amazing looking pastries!

Tried the pistachio latte, dragon blood refresher, strawberry chocolate Dubai, and Nutella crepe. All was tasty. My only complaint was I didn't expect the refresher to be fizzy and the crepe was a little chewy. It was decorated beautifully inside and a plus that it's open late. We got our treats and drinks relatively fast and our server was nice.

Mocha Milk Cake - was not to go but they forgot to give us one on a serving board like other patrons had.

I visited this new coffee shop with my parents today. They just opened recently, so still working out the kinks. I'm sure it will get smoother with time. Things that need improvement fore sure is the cashier... not friendly at all. This did forget a drink on our order, and it took a long time to get it, so unfortunately the other two drinks became cold (warm lattes). My dad asked if they could warm his back up and they told him it was supposed to be that way. I think they failed to realize how long we waited for the missing drink. The desserts they have are all way too much for one person. They are very large slices of cakes. Smaller would be better or maybe some cookies. It's really not practical for one person to eat such a large piece of rich cake. There seemed to be some chaos near the front counter as everyone is waiting for their orders that all seemed to take a long time. What would help is an intercom system or something. We could not hear them call anyone from our table, likely a problem For some others too. We could have all waited at our table is we could hear what they were saying, thus allowing more room near the counter. A lot of people were taking the table seating just waiting for their to go orders, so there was not many tables left to sit at to have dessert in the shop. They need to have a different area to wait to pick up your order. I will try them again, but give them some time first. FYI... even if dining in you have to ask for a porcelain mug. They have them but will still give you a paper cup. We asked for porcelain mugs. 2 of our 3 drinks came in a porcelain mug, the forgotten drink came in a paper cup absolutely boiling hot.

The Dubai crepe is absolutely delicious! I also got the iced chai, and it was incredibly good!

    Beautiful artwork by local artist.

Unique coffee house with made right there pastries with a Middle East flair. Doesn't open until 9am. One draw back.

Power down, robot…read more While driving to Wisconsin, I needed some caffeine and was quickly approaching Rockford. I decided to see if there were any cool local coffeehouses to drop in and get my usual americano and Velvet Robot won me over with the unique name. Knowing nothing else about the place, I set GPS and took a detour for caffeine. I headed in and went straight to the counter. The barista was chilling out on a couch and watching a movie since no one else was in there. We made some odd small talk while I ordered my usual americano. That's when things got weird. He asked if I wanted steamed milk in mine despite me ordering it just black. He seemed confused as I was telling him that they are usually just water and espresso shots. As he was putting my drink together, I noticed he used the handwashing faucet to add the water to my drink. I thought that was really really odd and if not a bit unsettling. Surely they have an actual tap for adding water to drinks? After my drink was made, I went on the hunt for the bathroom. The building that houses Velvet Robot is massive. It almost feels like a mall or a convention center. It was seriously a 1.5-2 minute walk to the bathroom and along the way, it was wide open spaces filled with a church and some offices. As for Velvet Robot itself, it honestly feels like the kind of coffeehouse I would've designed in my early teens. It had cool aesthetics, there was a small arcade corner, stickers adorned the coffee counter, and skateboards with sick art along the walls. I really dug the feel and vibe of the interior. Sadly, when I got to my car and started sipping on my americano, I knew this robot fizzled out. The americano tasted like it was made with drip coffee instead of espresso. Which is weird since I saw the barista make my drink. On top of that, having to explain to the barista what and how to make an americano was a head-scratcher for me. So, while I loved the aesthetics and vibe of Velvet Robot, the disappointment in ordering and taste of my drink has me leaving one of the lowest scores I've ever given to a coffeehouse. Definitely a 5/5 for vibe but 1/5 for coffee and ordering. Maybe if the future allows me to revisit Velvet Robot again, I would gladly give it another shot (no pun intended). But, I don't see myself trying it again until I've had a few of the other places in Rockford first.

The first time, my friend recommended Eggslusive and the second time, Yelp did. Anyway, service is quick and friendly, and prices are about what you'd expect for brunch unless you get an expensive special (which we did not ). I loved seeing items on the menu that I don't normally see on brunch menus like halal options, naan dishes, and Mediterranean meals, all of which I was tempted to get. I ended up getting the chicken tinga skillet and substituted to get something called simit as my side instead of toast. The waitress described it as kind of a pretzel bread, which I feel was accurate. Lots of sesame seeds, and it came with jam, which was delicious! The vibe is cozy and local, and come to find out that the business owner is Turkish, which we loved to know and support. I'm also not a bacon person, but I enjoyed the bacon here because I'm not a super super crispy bacon fan. The waitress was also super sweet and provided a coffee refill in a to-go cup for my husband to enjoy in the car on our way back towards Chicago. The only thing is that one of my poached eggs came out more hard boiled than runny, but everything else was great. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. Note: we got one of 2 parking spaces left remaining, so know that parking can be a bit tight on weekend mornings.
