No pictures for this one. I had the French dip sandwich which I would rate at a 4 of 5. It had a lot of meat on it and the jus was excellent. However, the meat was slightly dry which kept it from being perfect. The tator tots aren't very good. More on the store bought and not crispy side. The service was great with the owner offering good conversations until the food was prepared. Give it a try, eat some sandwiches and maybe try their pizza, but some for the service and friendly environment. read more

Cute road side restaurant just outside of Galena. Worth a stop after the drive. serving up a salad bar, home made soups (we enjoyed stuffed pepper soup that day), house smoked meats and a variety of micro and regular beers and beverages. Exceptional service by the wait staff and I think the owner who was so excited to share how they prepare their food, right down to the farm they get the local cheese curds from. The decor is all log cabin and very clean. Outside they have a bar area and bag games to play (it is by the parking lot so I don't think suitable for small kids - but the inside is.) There is also a 2nd floor loft which might be nice for smaller private gatherings. read more

Decided to give this place a try on our way through town.... I'm so glad we stopped in.... We were greeted when we walked in. Jj was at our table in less than a minute taking our drink order and greeting us.... He brought back our drinks and struck up a conversation about D3 football we had our boys team logo on our sweatshirts). We had a nice conversation.... The waitress came over when our conversation ended and took our order...then we had a conversation with the waitress ( Brandy) ... these folk were so friendly and welcoming. Appetizers = Mushrooms they were fine Entrees - Chicken finger With waffle fries and a salad bar.... Yummy. The chicken fingers were hand breaded....the waffle fries were huge and seasoned just right.... The salad bar was worth every penny..... My husband ordered the Entree- Chicken wings.... They were meaty and cooked just right..... he chose the sweet chili sauce... he also had the soup from the salad bar and said it was real good. When we were done eating the sweet waitress brought us Pumpkin bars from the salad bar for desert...... they were moist and Oh So Yummy!!! The waitress Brandy was so sweet too! Don't know why it's taken us this long to stop and eat here on our way to Galena! Soup and salad bar was to die for! Homemade soups, fresh cut salad bar. We will definitely be stopping back here to try all the different foods they have. Stone fire pizzas are on the menu as well! We were in town for a day and stopped in here for dinner. They have outdoor seating and cute log cabin style decor. Soup and salad bar comes with dinners. Welcoming place! Sat outside, enjoyed the weather, had great service, and even played a game of bags before we left for home. Owner literally went to the store to get ingredients to make my 13 year old niece her free birthday treat! They had fired up the wood fire ovens and the pizzas were great. We popped in on our way to Galena. Amber was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the French Dip w/ mozzarella and mild giardiniera peppers on a hoagie with the shoe string onion rings. A place to stop by for some American food in Stockton, IL when everything else on the road is closed. However, I would not come for a 2nd time even if the food is for free. We came here wanting to grab a bite to eat before we head back to Chicago. Well... we didn't get to eat. We got our food to-go just when it arrived on the table. We ordered a burger and smothered chicken, which are all dishes that ain't that complicated. The food, however, took 45 minutes to come out... We were so impatient by the time we were done that we left a $1.00 tip. If you got time to waste, come. In a world where cheap strip mall buildings are everywhere, it's refreshing when a small business invests in their facility to make for a special experience. This log building with open loft may not make the food any better but it does make your experience more enjoyable. Not that the food needs any help, our meals were great. Heard this place was great for lunch. Tried it today and the best I can say it's average. They have a soup and salad bar, nothing elaborate but tasty. Today that offer cheeseburger soup and beef soup. Tried both and not bad, very hot and good flavor. Onto the salad bar, fairly small but good options. Only three choices of dressings, but that's okay. For the soup and salad bar, 4 stars for the size and favors and options. Ordered the daily wrap, crisp chicken today. The wrap was a good size portion but lacked in flavor. Was expecting something a bit more in flavor, a good portion of honey mustard would have been great but none around. If there were a side choice of dressing other than a slap of mayonnaise would put this wrap over the top. 2 stars here. Service was odd, we walked in and just stood in the middle of the dining area and the bartender yelled at us saying somebody would be with us shortly. So we stood there a bit longer then the waitress showed up and said sir anywhere. We sat ourselves. She was friendly with telling us the specials and after the food arrived she only filled one of our drinks and finally she asked if we needed anything else, I suggested maybe another drink which she did, but was odd she didn't fill both drinks earlier. The bar area is set back away from the dining area and I'll never come there for drinks and a game...like several new and upcoming startups, LED lights is not the answer for a bar, way too bright and with a log cabin (just siding-fake log look) look for the rest of the restaurant, this is dead on arrival. We waited 10 mins to get seated and then another 15 to get waited on. After being waited on we waited 40 minutes for our food which most of it was lukewarm at best. When informed of the just warm food we were offered to have them make more we had already waited long enough they did not comp us anything on our bill. We will never go back. Loved the soup/salad bar - although the sausage & kale soup could have used a little more sausage. I had a black & blue burger minus the buffalo sauce and my dining companion had a prime rib sandwich. We both had tater tots that were cooked perfectly; crisp not mushy. Great place for great food and terrific atmosphere. This time we ordered the special, Tilapia, which was the best ever, and the rib eye steak. We both had the salad bar and the greatest soup, Loaded Potato. I could have finished the whole soup pot, it was that delicious!!! We both had the mashed potatoes, which the chef makes with heavy cream and yukon golds and a little garlic. They were so good, I got a to-go bag - for Potatoes!! The salad bar has enough but not tons, just right, and good for toddlers through adults. The desserts are unbelieveable. Cheesecake? Of course!! The service is fabulous, friendly and prompt. Prices are just fine, altho some may think they are a little high? Well, you get what you pay for, and I don't think the prices are high at all. I treasure this restaurant and will continue going here, even tho I drive 38 miles to get there. They have a handicapped ramp on the back door, restrooms are handy and there are two small side rooms that are great for families (keeps kid voices inside the room) and groups. Also an upstairs, not ADA but great for a bigger group or an event. This restaurant, under the previous owners, had big tables and chairs with not much seating. But seating has been mixed with more tables and - bar seating! And TVs so you can watch your favorite game. One of the specials recently was a Blackhawk Burger for the Hawk game that night, it was immense and really awesome. Plenty of room to sit at bar and eat with friendly people and great service. This restaurant needs to stay here, it is truly a gem. And it has truly great pizze, available an hour after the grill closes. Try this place and you will LOVE IT!!! read more

My husband and I stopped here for a meal on our way back from a Valentine's Day weekend in Galena. After skiing all day, the staff, service, and food here was friendly, prompt, and delicious. So inexpensive too! Definitely worth the stop. They will take great care of you :) I realized the next day, an hour outside of Chicago, my wallet was missing. I called JJ's to check if I left it at dinner. Not only did they have my wallet, but they mailed it to my house fully intact 2 days later. Thank you!!!! Great for a burger & fries but don't even consider the "prime rib special". For $22 I would expect a medium temp prime rib to be tender and succulent. Instead I received a piece of cold shoe leather. It was obviously a reheat job done extremely poorly. The accompanying au jus was ridiculously salty to the point of being inedible. The pizza used to be excellent but it has gone down in quality drastically. The sauce was very scantily used and in some places completely missing. The crust was extremely tough, very difficult to chew, and burnt. For the overall cost you'd be better off driving elsewhere. read more

Extremely disappointed with this restaurant. Four of us went there for dinner late this afternoon. Two of us ordered sandwiches with the salad bar, and we ordered the JJ's Nuggets for an appetizer. When the nuggets came there was no nacho cheese, even though the menu states it comes with it. We asked our waitress twice for the cheese, and finally after asking someone else for the cheese, got it about 15 minutes after the nuggets came, when there were about 5 left and they were cold. Our sandwiches didn't come until at least 55 minutes after we ordered them. That isn't an exaggeration, as I took a picture of something on my phone after ordering, and the sandwiches didn't arrive until 52 minutes after the picture. There was no apology when we needed mentioned it took so long. We only got a response of "We'll, there's other people." You can't honestly believe an hour to make a couple of sandwiches is acceptable in any situation. We should have refused them when they came, as we were no longer hungry and didn't even touch them. Also, the mushroom soup was lukewarm at best. About five weeks ago we ate at this restaurant and enjoyed good service and good food, and was recommending the restaurant to friends and coworkers that come out this was. I will no longer be doing that. The only reason the restaurant didn't get 1 star is because of the good experience a few weeks ago, which was ruined today. read more

This place was ok, with a good pizza, but we ate at the bar and there were a couple patrons that were totally shit faced. They were loud and disturbing other people. But they kept getting served more booze, it seemed they new the people behind the bar. When they finally left, with the help of others, one drunk was going to drive the other home because he thought the other was too drunk. This is a very dangerous situation for the establishment if something happened to them on the way home. We will not be back mainly due to poor judgement. read more
