I would recommend making reservations as it was consistently busy. We opted for seats at the bar to avoid an hour wait. This place is tiny, so it would not be ideal for large groups. It would be difficult to accommodate someone who could not navigate stairs (there are both stairs to enter as well as a staircase for most of the dining space). Servers were friendly and helpful, the right amount of attentive. The food came out quickly. They offer light lunch, brunch, breakfast fare, with specials, and baked goods from Lola. A popular special is a homemade pop tart, which has rotating flavors (today was blueberry with lemon frosting). We opted for French Toast, pork belly, and the country skillet. Otto's occupies a very handsome, historic building (a general store built around 1900 I believe). Tables on the second floor may have a nice view of the river, the nearby park, and/or the vintage restored train station across the street. Based on reviews, I expected a knockout breakfast, but it didn't quite live up. The food was definitely good, just not the best ever. My own dish, the day's special english muffin sandwich with pork belly, was clearly made with quality ingredients but tasted bland. However, I found some of my family's selections to be more satisfying; highlights included the breakfast potatoes, garden omelette, and french toast. My husband and I went in to Otto's for breakfast this morning. It was easily the best breakfast spot we have found in Galena! It is an old home converted to a breakfast/lunch spot. We learned the name "Otto" pays homage to a man named Otto who originally lived upstairs, had plans to make it a restaurant downstairs, but unfortunately just wasn't able to financially. It is warm and welcoming inside! We sat up at the bar, but we learned it is smart to make reservations ahead of time! I started with some cold brew which was great! Pro tip, add the maple cold foam on top it is delicious! My husband had the country skillet. The biscuit was delicious! He really liked the biscuit gravy too and thought it wasn't so heavy like some can be. I ordered the sweet potato hash which was delicious! I ordered some sourdough on the side. We also decided to split the homemade pop tart and you should also! It was so delicious! We also learned that the chef behind the restaurant is Kevin Scharpf who was on season 16 of Top Chef, too cool!! We will definitely be going back to Otto's next time we are in Galena! read more

We've been coming to Galena for 18 years and this was the first time we came here! We typically go out for dinner and make breakfast at home but Otto's is a must for breakfast! My husband and I both had the breakfast sando. The portions were large and I was stuffed. My mom ordered the skilled and said it was really good. Kids had the pancakes which were fluffy. The best brunch ever--hands down! My fiancé and I just moved here from Southern California, and Otto's completely blew us away. We ordered the country skillet and Otto's breakfast sando, plus a couple of Bloody Marys -- everything was incredible. The food had amazing depth of flavor and was clearly made with care. Our server was also the bartender, and he was fantastic! We got our drinks almost immediately after ordering, and he took the time to go over the menu with great recommendations. Otto's is a great place for breakfast and lunch. It's got a couple levels, but it does get quite loud, so when they're busy, be prepared to have a bit of noise around you. We grabbed some egg tacos and sweet potato hash. Everything was excellent, and I appreciate their great service. Sometimes is takes a bit to get someone to initially stop over, so take some time and check out the menu - but once you get started, they're very attentive. If you're staying somewhere in Galena where you're not going to hang out for breakfast in a hotel or similar, you can't go wrong with the menu at Otto's. They do accept reservations online which is super helpful since brunch places are typically a first come first serve mindset. We were seated right away and attended to with hot coffees within minutes. The mugs are powerful with a motivation statement which is a great way to start your day. The restaurant fits up to maybe 40-50 people. 2 floors which is pretty cool. My fiancé and I sat on the 2nd floor. For food we both got breakfast dishes. Eggs were flight and fluffy and cooked to perfection. I would stay away from a basic eggs, bacon, bread option since they do have 'fancier' choices that seemed to have lots more flavor. read more

Otto's Place is the place to go in Galena! We went over President's Day weekend and the snow had just come down, so I believe Galena was packed due to Chestnut Mountain. It was hard to get a seat, but we made an effort on the very last day of our trip. I recommend going right when they open OR making reservations by calling ahead. I think they will hardly sit a party of 6-8 together when it's a busy weekend. So be prepared to split up if it's just one of those days. They have the best brunch food in town! I love their creative dishes, lovely interior, and friendly staff. Our table of four got the breakfast hash? I think that's what it was called, but basically, it was a sandwich with their amazing homemade mayo, arugula, pork belly, and scrambled eggs on a ciabatta bun! On the side was a side of very well-seasoned potatoes. And we also got french toast. The brioche was out, so the waiter let us know that the chocolate bread was available. The food did not disappoint! After dining in, we got to speak to the waiter about the history of Otto's and how well the "newer" owners have really transformed Otto's into what it is today. He was super friendly and helpful. This is somewhere I'd go back to! Thank you Otto's for the friendly service and great food. Definitely lived up to the hype. This has been a family 'go to' for years and thru a variety of owners, still fantastic every time we go. Husband and I popped in here yesterday for a quick lunch before heading to our sisters house. I had the half salad/soup combo. The soup of the day was Peruvian chicken and it was very yummy. Shredded chicken, potato, cilantro, lime, etc. I will crave this next time I catch a cold. Hubby had his favorite, the chicken salad sandwich and an iced tea- always good. Service was perfect, they get great exercise running up and down the stairs! $25 before tip. I went here based on mixed reviews on yelp. This restaurant is off the beaten path right next to Grant Park welcome center. Luckily I called ahead of time to make reservations and it was an hour and 15 minute wait. We were seated at the time expected. The host was very friendly. The ambience is very nice and the waiter was very friendly and attentive. The Mamosa with lavender was very good and a tad strong :). The bloody Mary was a bit spicy. The side spinach salad was excellent that came with cashews with a sesame vinaigrette was excellent but a bit pricey for a side salad at $8. The red pepper soup was salty but good. The chicken salad sandwich with a substitution of the pretzel bun was just ok (honestly Potbelly's makes a better one). The sandwich needed more mayonnaise. The fruit on the side was very good mix of blueberries, pineapple and cantaloupe. I give this place an overall 3.5 stars. read more
