My breakfast tacos were huge, but with virtually no sausage or flavor. I gave up after eating one of them. The hash browns were the highlight of the meal, but were so-so. My dining companion was not impressed with her huge omelet, but at least it had a generous portion of ham. My unsweet tea was clearly at least a day old, but came with a premium price of $3.49. According to the menu, my meal was supposed to come with hash browns but after paying I noticed that I had been charged an extra $4.99. This was not good and a poor value.

Pollockville is the oldest town in North Carolina. So 214 Kitchen fits perfectly. I stopped at 214 Kitchen before my expected visit to Foscue Plantation. Service was friendly when I entered and throughout my visit. The restaurant is modest with booths and tables. They do have table service, but I thought I had to order at the counter, since that is what the others ahead of me were doing. (they were ordering take-out) Take-out orders were very popular here, so my order was prepared to go. But they had no issue with me eating it there. If you call ahead to place your order, you can pick it up at the drive-thru. I saw a few people using the drive-thru while I was there. It was a pretty cool feature. Thursday's special was the chicken pastry, so I had to order that. It came with two sides, and I enjoyed every bit of it. I went with French fries and green beans for the sides. I just devoured it, it was so good. Prices were reasonable here, I'd say comparable to fast food. But here you get a home-cooked meal. I was excited to find this hole-in-the-wall and just loved the Chicken Pastry. I almost returned on Friday to order it again, but then remembered it was the Thursday special. I look forward to returning to 214 Kitchen for another meal.

The sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits were absolutely outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and everything a Southern breakfast should be. The cheese omelette was equally delicious, cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. What really sets this place apart is the friendly, attentive service. Everyone made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The combination of great food, generous portions, and genuine hospitality makes this a must-stop destination. I wish a focus on fast, friendly service with excellent food had been evident so I could have given a delightful review. Sadly, I think this little mom and pop eatery has seen its best days. You don't go to Vera's for the ambiance, as it isn't fancy and hasn't been updated in...well...forever. You go there for the hospitality and good food...something akin to home cooking. And based on our experience, even that is questionable. Highly unlikely we will be back. It was a rather expensive experiment for a little diner in a small town that's coasting on past glory. It's like Vera's had given up, but no one has acknowledged it yet. Stopped in at the right time as shortly after multiple families came in. Definitely can see this being a busy spot pre/post church. Was a little surprised about the lemon juice packets for my water, first I have seen that. I enjoyed my meal. Everything hit the spot with my order. My grandfather's poached eggs were overcooked but he enjoyed it all. Other things that stuck out was they had no OJ, overheard the waitress tell a young boy they were out of apple juice, and they were not serving french toast. Maybe staffing issues with it being Labor Day weekend but I would have thought having a fully stocked kitchen would be important. If traveling through I would pop in for some grub, it is better than the Mc. Donalds up the road.
