I am so pleased with my experience I'm not sure if I should be start this review about the food or service. I ordered the salad sampler with 3 options. (I may repeat my order in the future but will definitely order an extra side of the ginger broccoli for later- It deserves it's own five star review) While the menu was small, the meal was extremely fresh, bright vibrant cohesive flavor that left me satisfied and eager to order again. The service was professional, welcoming and had me feeling valued as a guest/customer. This was my first time trying this establishment so I was asking for personal recommendations. They added a sweet treat at no charge as a first time customer. I have not tried my peach muffin yet (I plan to save it for an afternoon pick me up) but it was warm right out of the oven and filled my car with an amazing aroma. Stop the Christian music! Have coffee available without a loooong wait. Pastries are no longer as good as in the past. We asked for an iced tea (which used to be self serve) and they didn't even put any ice in either of the cup and both were sweet tea. They never asked if I wanted unsweetened. They're friendly and helpful. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. Before ordering, make sure you check out their daily specials menu. I had the tastiest Gyro I've ever put in my mouth. It was warmed by sautéed onions which was a nice addition to the sandwich! And thank you for cutting the pita in half which made it easier to manage...and shareable! The Mediterranean salad with the Gyro was the perfect pairing! My husband had the Honey Roasted Ham sandwich. The Portuguese roll is similar to a Chibata roll, but softer and more delicious! The dijon mustard was the perfect topping. Plus the chips were tasty! My wife who is about to get hip replacement surgery recently got several deliveries from this establishment. She was initially pleased with the first few. However, this last experience was so overwhelmingly disgusting (and unsanitary) , we're never going back and I have to give this establishment a "one" star rating. Today my wife ordered a salmon salad for lunch. There were specific instruction to cook the salmon "well done." The salmon was delivered raw, contaminating the whole salad so she couldn't salvage any any of it. The owner/manager's response was to tell her to stick it in the microwave for a second or two. After my wife pushed back, she was told it could be remade if she could come pick it up. She said she couldn't and no offer for a refund was made. My wife had to turn around and re-order from Country Biscuit for delivery. She's probably eaten there well over a hundred times and never had any issues with undercooked/raw meat. Go to Country Biscuit and not this establishment. Later in the day when I called and spoke to the owner/manager to express my concern with my wife's service, he seemed indifferent to the complaint. I think he only partially understood how egregious serving raw fish was once I made the analogy of how Gordon Ramsey deals with this stuff, as he eventually only gave a half-hearted apology. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! A hidden gem that I love! These are the surprises and reviews that I love doing. I was in the mood for a salad and a cup of soup. This place came up and at first I wasn't sure if I would like it from the outside. I walked in and everyone was so friendly and the people ordering were telling me what was good. You order at the counter and then they bring it to you. One lady said she has been coming here every day for 8 years. The prices are extremely inexpensive and they make everything from scratch. It reminded me of a non chained Panera. It was all senior citizens in there but that didn't make me feel any different. I ordered the choose 3 salad with curries tuna salad , gingered broccoli, and bow tie pasta. They put it all on a house salad with delicious homemade balsamic vinegaraitte. I also had a cup of clam chowder. The broccoli was amazing and the Curried Tuna is something I would crave. The soup was not my fav but a good clam chowder is hard to make. This review should be dated 1998-2000. Back at that time I worked nearby and used this business for a breakfast sandwich or a bread supplier. The "breakfast special" was a split Kaiser roll with two eggs, slice of ham and cheese. It came with American cheese but I had them switch it to cheddar (no extra charge). Some days I brought my own ham and Swiss cheese to work and would just buy the roll from them. (I had a toaster oven) The owner got tired of me buying rolls (he didn't make much money off just rolls) and sometimes when he was out of cheddar cheese, I brought my own cheese from work to put on the breakfast special sandwich (which he should've been happy to do since he was charging ME for the use of my cheese...but he still seemed unsettled about it. Eventually he raised his prices and I quit giving him my business, opting to bring my own rolls from the grocery store. The owner seems like a quirky guy and I've heard many people complain about his attitude. I never had any complaints about the food, it was always good. The prices have climbed a bit more and many customers question his hours of operation (closing as soon as the last customer leaves after 1PM.) Somehow this hasn't effected his business much. read more

Immediately upon arrival I took the food out of the bag and notified the driver that stuff was missing and he suggested I take it up with Door Dash and I did. I also called the restaurant and told them some of my order was missing. I was told in a very matter of fact way that the food was in the bag when it left their establishment and no attempt was made to rectify the situation. Very poor customer service! Before ordering I ask the gentleman at the register if the Cuban lunch special had onion/onion powder anything to do with onion and he said no so that is what I ordered. When my lunch was brought to my table it came with a salad and house dressing, me knowing most house dressings are Italian persay I decided to ask for a different dressing they gave me the option of only ranch. Not a big deal I'm used to this and ranch having onion powder I declined. As I kept eating my lunch my throat started bothering me and I stopped one of the waitresses to ask once again about onion being an ingredient in my lunch and she quickly told me to give her my plate as the salad has cuscus and it's made with onion!!! Once I told her I had informed the gentleman at the register of my allergy she went and spoke with him and he made no attempt to acknowledge me, my issue or anything about it and to top it off HE'S THE OWNER!!! Had I had a severe reaction I would have had to get an injection! Bakery items are delicious and daily soup specials in the winter are pleasing. Some times the potato salad and other items taste different than the day before. I was here for lunch with my mom and dad later in the afternoon on a Friday when it was pretty empty. Being that I'm currently handicapped with a broken leg, the counter service ordering feature was difficult for me since I travel by knee scooter. I had my mom order the beef gyro for me. The sandwich board listed that all sandwiches are served with chips and a pickle. My gyro came with a side salad. I was hoping for that pickle, so my mom went up to request one for me which was no problem. The beef gyro actually tasted to me like lamb and the tzatziki sauce was actually a spinach dip with water chestnuts. I guess it's their version of Greek. I ate it. Wasn't anything special. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? Is this the kind of place you visit just for the Daily Special? Maybe I should have gotten a soup or salad? I was underwhelmed and knowing some of the other options in and around New Bern, the Kitchen probably won't be on my to-do list when I'm back in town. PS. Are you supposed to leave a tip here? I went today for the first time and I must say, very pleased. The staff was quite friendly and the place was clean and inviting. I looked over the soup options and seen a carrot soup. I could not get in my head around what that would look like or taste like so I passed and opted for the tomato basil which was fantastic. I also got the sandwich on the daily special board which was a turkey penini (sp) with provolone, cranberry sauce and a garlic spread which was great. My wife got a chicken salad wrap with the carrot soup. Needless to say, I had to try hers when it arrived and it to was great. So, for the first time there, the food was very good and will have to go back and try other meals. A friend of ours had shown up and recommended the low fat peach muffins which he bought for us to try out. We will see. Will recommend and visit again. read more

We gave a lot of business to this place doing group orders. We have heard from numerous people that the staff are good until you have a complaint and today we found that out. The food was wrong and undercooked, when we called to make them aware, they basically told us we were wrong and they never undercook anything. Not one single apology or an offer to replace. The lady told me she'd get the manager and hung up the phone. When I called again, a different person did the same thing. They were immediately defensive, saying I was wrong, and hung up the phone again. And mind you that was coming from the so called "manager". We will never order from here again. Their customer service was beyond unprofessional and unbelievably rude. And they had the audacity to say I was being rude after they interrupted me, told me I'm wrong, and then hang up. I grew up around the restaurant business and I work in customer service and never have I experienced something this horrible and to customers who did group orders weekly without ever having a problem. All we wanted was for someone to acknowledge the issue and apologize and we would have happily continued to give business. I never do reviews but it was such a horrible experience that it feels warranted to warn people that this place will only be nice until you have a complaint. So not impressed. My friend told them she was allergic to onions when she ordered. When her side salad arrived she thought there might be onions in the vinaigrette. She went back to the counter and asked. There are so she asked if they had a different dressing, she was offered ranch which contains onion powder, so she declined. She was then told there were no other options. While eating her undressed salad her eyes turned red and puffy, we thought possibly the onion powder from my food was causing it. She told a passing staff member what had happened letting them know the guy at the counter didn't seem to care that he had given her something she was allergic to. Turns out he's the owner. The staff member then came running back over and took her salad explaining that the couscous in it also had onions in it. That explains the eyes. The staff member brought her a new undressed salad with no couscous. Thank goodness for this staff member because the owner was completely unconcerned about the fact that she had a serious allergy and even knowing about it he served her two items that contained this ingredient. We sat there longer than we had planned to make sure her reaction didn't get worse before she returned to work. She did have some irritation in her throat, but the benadryl seems to be working. She must not have consumed any actual onion just stuff that it touched, again thank goodness. If you have any kind of allergy I would definitely stay away from this place. read more

I take my clients here sometimes for a quick lunch break between seeing property. They are always impressed with the very friendly service and the fresh ingredients used in classic comfort foods. Yummy soups, fresh salads, and a great meatloaf sandwich. The bakery goods are delicious. I love the chocolate croissant. Pleasant atmosphere, clean, friendly service and yummy food. The only thing that could give it another star would be some new booths/tables. They are a little dated. I will definitely keep them in my client lunch rotation! read more
