Tasty Honey Ham on a Portuguese roll
    Suzanne H.

Kitchen on Trent is a deliciousness hidden gem located in the unassuming Trent Village shopping center. Today we dined in for lunch. Staff wears masks, and tables are socially distanced. They're friendly and helpful. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. Before ordering, make sure you check out their daily specials menu. I had the tastiest Gyro I've ever put in my mouth. It was warmed by sautéed onions which was a nice addition to the sandwich! And thank you for cutting the pita in half which made it easier to manage...and shareable! The Mediterranean salad with the Gyro was the perfect pairing! My husband had the Honey Roasted Ham sandwich. The Portuguese roll is similar to a Chibata roll, but softer and more delicious! The dijon mustard was the perfect topping. Plus the chips were tasty! Based on our experience, we'll be back to sample more of their delicious menu items!

Throw this raw in the trash.

My wife who is about to get hip replacement surgery recently got several deliveries from this establishment. She was initially pleased with the first few. However, this last experience was so overwhelmingly disgusting (and unsanitary) , we're never going back and I have to give this establishment a "one" star rating. Today my wife ordered a salmon salad for lunch. There were specific instruction to cook the salmon "well done." The salmon was delivered raw, contaminating the whole salad so she couldn't salvage any any of it. The owner/manager's response was to tell her to stick it in the microwave for a second or two. After my wife pushed back, she was told it could be remade if she could come pick it up. She said she couldn't and no offer for a refund was made. My wife had to turn around and re-order from Country Biscuit for delivery. She's probably eaten there well over a hundred times and never had any issues with undercooked/raw meat. Go to Country Biscuit and not this establishment. Later in the day when I called and spoke to the owner/manager to express my concern with my wife's service, he seemed indifferent to the complaint. I think he only partially understood how egregious serving raw fish was once I made the analogy of how Gordon Ramsey deals with this stuff, as he eventually only gave a half-hearted apology. Read some of the other highly negative posts by others to see that our complaint is not atypical.

I read others that talk about high prices. We went for lunch and were surprised at the reasonable prices. We thought it was going to be a meat and three but it turned out to be a kinda trendy up scale gourmet restaurant. Meat loaf and salad filled the whole plate up for under $10. Can't beat that. Everything we saw there looked good. If this place was downtown it would be packed.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise! A hidden gem that I love! These are the surprises and reviews that I love doing. I was in the mood for a salad and a cup of soup. This place came up and at first I wasn't sure if I would like it from the outside. I walked in and everyone was so friendly and the people ordering were telling me what was good. You order at the counter and then they bring it to you. One lady said she has been coming here every day for 8 years. The prices are extremely inexpensive and they make everything from scratch. It reminded me of a non chained Panera. It was all senior citizens in there but that didn't make me feel any different. I ordered the choose 3 salad with curries tuna salad , gingered broccoli, and bow tie pasta. They put it all on a house salad with delicious homemade balsamic vinegaraitte. I also had a cup of clam chowder. The broccoli was amazing and the Curried Tuna is something I would crave. The soup was not my fav but a good clam chowder is hard to make. All in all this is a perfect lunch spot when you just want good food in a very casual environment or great take Out.

Is this a sit down place where you are waited on?

While Kitchen On Trent is a "sit down" restaurant, they do not offer traditional waitstaff service. On arrival, you place your order at the counter, head off to prepare your beverage & grab a table. Your meal will be served by an employee, but…

We were in no rush and our waiter (Beckett) was very accommodating with our pace. we ordered drinks and settled in on reviewing the small menu. Drinks were fine but I thought my beer (Sexy Cool Hazy IPA) was a little flat. We asked if there were any appetizers that would lend themselves to sharing. The only two, deviled eggs and pimento cheese, were not anything we were interested in so we passed. Surprisingly, there was not even a salad option as a starter. Two of the dinners had the NC catch of the day, golden tilefish. It was nice but a very small portion. One had the shrimp and clam purloo. It was a generous portion and was reported to be good. I had the braised pork cheeks. They tasted good and were not fatty at all. Looking back on our dinner, the food was fine but nothing exceptional. Also nothing "fresh" on the menu; salad, fresh vegetables, nothing. Also the lack of something other than the very pedestrian offers to share is something to consider. For what we paid, I would expect much better. PS - Our waiter, Beckett, was very good. Attentive enough but not too much. Also, why do restaurants of this caliber charge more for a credit card. Who is going to pay cash for a $300 meal? Just crank it into the price of the food and stop rubbing our noses in your cost to do business.

There were a few restaurants but MJ's stood out amongst the rest for the photos and reviews. MJ's is located in downtown New Bern. The restaurant is not very big but the wait (20-25 mins) was worth it. We ordered the Admirals Platter which had oysters, clams, shrimp, and crab legs. The oysters were steamed to perfection, the clams were not dried out, the shrimp was perfectly seasoned with Old Bay and red onions and the crab legs were not dried out. What I am trying to say is, the seafood was fresh and not pre-cooked. It was cook to order. Our waiter was awesome. Even though the restaurant was packed full, he paid attention to our needs. Our glasses never got empty. He kept our table cleared by replacing the shell bucket without asking. We really appreciate the customer service. After dinner, we decided on dessert and had the lemon blueberry pie. I highly recommend it ... deliciousness!!! Thank you MJ's for a special time with delicious food. If we are back in New Bern, you will be a definite choice for seafood.

Our server Ridley, came to the table promptly, answered our questions and took our orders. Our drinks came quickly and were always full. The food arrived soon after our orders were placed. The presentation of our meals was terrific. Three diners in our party ordered the Fish Tacos and one got the Fish and Chips. It would be an understatement to say the servings were seriously generous. The fish & chips came 3 large fried fish filets and a heaping of seasoned fries. The taco orders each had 3 full vs mini sized soft tacos overflowing with fish filets...the fish was legit spilling out over both ends of the tacos! The fish was lightly battered, nicely seasoned and fried to perfection. The quantity of the food was so generous, only one of us could finish our meal!! On our way out, we stopped and spoke with the manager Kelsey. She is the spirit behind the "the new and improved" Persimmon's ethos. She took no credit for the changes or improvements and instead placed our exemplary experience squarely at the feet of her employees! I'm so disappointed with Persimmons on the Waterfront, in New Bern…read more First, the good things: I love that they sell local art in the waiting area, secondly, I love sitting out on the deck. There was a nice breeze off the Neuse, even though it's 86° right now you don't know that because they have these nice shades and there's a nice breeze coming off the water. So what I didn't like first: I feel the menu was really limited, I can get around that, but the red flag right off the bat was their fish tacos and their fish and chips are made with "white fish" I figured they it was gonna be tilapia or something equally horrible. When I asked the what fish it was he said it was Pangasius, which the waiter described as similar to flounder and I also overheard another waiter. Say the same thing to somebody sitting near me so that's the spiel they're told to tell people who ask what kind of fish. I suggest that you look it up. It's Farm raised and not in very clean environment usually... I never eat tilapia and this is actually one rung below tilapia. I wasn't going to get fish. I ended up getting a burger which I normally don't get at a restaurant, but I ordered my burger, medium rare and the waiter said, "We don't do that. We either do pink or not pink." They tried to tell me it was a health department regulation. Nope! Other than fast food like McDonald's and Wendy's and such I've never been to a restaurant especially a supposedly fine dining restaurant where you couldn't order your burger, medium, well medium, medium-rare or rare. I said, try to make it less than just pink please. Then when I cut into my burger. It was well done. Maybe the exact center was slightly pink, but that was just one bite worth. I'm very disappointed, but I have to tell you I would be back just to be able to have the same glass of wine. It was a white wine, a dry white wine from Spain and the appetizer of brussels sprouts while sitting out on the patio, it was a nice experience for that but not for a meal.
