    Bolognese and Spaghetti and Meatballs
    Jennifer N.

Came here while on a trip to Portland! Saw mixed ratings on Yelp but decided to stop in anyway. So glad we did! We had a lovely time with the sweetest server. Food was so good, I took it back to our hotel to save for a midnight snack. Between two, we each enjoyed a cocktail, shared the house foccacia (so pillowy and soo good), and ordered the bolognese and the spaghetti with meatball. We can confidently say, we had more than enough food. The bolognese was so meaty and hearty but I'd have to say the spaghetti was my favorite. I really enjoyed the flavors and it had the right balance of salty and sweet for my palate.

Everything we ordered here was delicious, their garlic bread is probably one of the best I've ever had! All the pasta dishes and the calamari were also very good, the pasta was perfectly al dente. The bartender and server were both very friendly and attentive even though they were pretty busy. The atmosphere was nice with soft lighting and candles on the tables, but it did get pretty loud in there when it was full of people. I'd definitely come back!

The drink menu is on the smaller side for cocktails but was an easy decision and delicious. The service was a little on the slower side but it was a Saturday night and our server was friendly. The food was very good, ambience was nice and cozy - not too loud that you can't have a conversation or feel like you're yelling which is always nice.

Went here for their happy hour as we've been exploring the what happy hours around. This was overall was pretty good and there were no complaints really. Space is nice and the outdoor seating (where we were) is cool. Service was very friendly and the happy hour prices/options were better than we expected. The pizza was my favorite and for what you pay it's well worth it. Nothing to rave about really but a solid option for food in the area

OPEN LATE!!! Great choice for a yummy Italian meal after a show at the auditorium. The server was great and funny too. Would go back in a heartbeat. We know for a fact that the pastas are handmade daily since we walked past them making so , so many times. A great (not so high end) but friendly place in Portland.

I love when a restaurant feels like a hug. It was 10° out last night and this place was exactly what was necessary. I'm a sucker for house made pasta as well so that may make me biased. I love the open concept and being able to see behind the scenes prep of the kitchens. I got the mushroom pappardelle which I believe is the correct choice but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Happy hour bread and mocktail. Yum!

Excellent restaurant. My husband and I sat at the bar, and our bartender was lovely and helpful. I ordered a mocktail which was fun and very good! We started with some happy hour cheap eats including their meatballs which were SO good. Our pasta dishes were some of the best I've ever had. Incredibly fresh and flavorful. I had zucchini noodles with tomato and pesto/ not something I'd typically order and I absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is cozy and very clean. Definitely will return.

Sat at the bar for a small bite to eat and a couple drinks. Be weary when ordering their hot martini. It's powerful and loaded with a punch. The wilted spinach was the best I've ever had. It paired perfectly with the martini. For dessert we got the chocolate torte and a lemoncello. The lemonchello was deadly, I don't think I will order one from there in the future. I had a great time and I'm eager to return for a proper meal.

Delicious food and great service! My fettuccine bolognese was so delicious and flavorful! The cocktail was delicious as well as the focaccia. I will definitely be back

Nice place, but... I really did like this place, but there were some quirky things that were wrong. The food was really good - I had the chicken Parmesan, which was huge and quite tasty - baby girl had the truffle mac and cheese, which was awesome - we had the Garlicl bread which was a large portion and very good. The service was Ok... the bartender was awesome - hostess and waitress not so much. The restaurant has a neat vibe, but the curtain used to block the cold when people entered and exited the restaurant really didn't work. The restaurant was either really hot or really cold. Which i think could be less of a problem in the summer. Other than that, it is a good place to dine

With an 8pm reservation for Wednesday, we were seated promptly at 7:50pm. This lovely restaurant has a young, welcoming vibe. It's a mix of high-end dining (Italian) with a somewhat casual atmosphere (blue jeans). If you seek a formal "suit and tie" dining establishment, Leeward is not ideal. Although it is pricey, Leeward has many pluses. First, the service here is outstanding. Second, the wood floors, cork decorated walls, open space, and candles provide a nice ambience. Third, the food is delicious and ideal for sharing appetizers. We ordered several items, including focaccia (the olive oil is wonderful), and the Maine Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio (our favorite!). The Gnocchi Fritto with prosciutto is a must-order appetizer for groups. We then each ordered a pasta dish. I devoured the tagliatelle, which had fava beans. My wife enjoyed the radiatore (with pine nuts). My sons both ordered the rigatoni (but one disliked the heavy Bolognese sauce). Glad we were able to enjoy a celebratory dinner in Portland! Leeward contributes to the strong "foodie" reputation of the city.

Reservations booked almost solid for days if not weeks, they do "allow" walk ins for high end bar seating. I was lucky to get a preferred bar seat that overlooked the theater of the cocktail creations at the center of the bar. Very entertaining indeed. Prior to that, we had to wait in line at the door before opening and then be assigned a specific seat. As one who hates standing in line for food and specifically avoids food trucks or food festivals for this reason, I was already slightly disagreeable. Obviously I would have had better humor with a long time reservation. Add to that, in order to park not too far away we street parked earlier and had to send one of us out to electronically feed the meter on this early evening experience. I do admit that the creative flavors of the dishes were appealing, if not a little too rich in dressings. I should have asked to have the dressing on the side of my lovely kale salad, but I WANT to trust the chef of a truly reputable high end establishment to not drown it. Still it was lemony delicious. The pea pesto was also creative , but again, slightly less sauce is MORE, it would keep me yearning for another bite. My partners steak was a bit chewy in the cut, we very much respected the bartenders suggestion that he have it rarer than he normally prefers. The potato "hash browns" (my quote) with horse radish sauce had a distinctive flavor and texture which was also crispy and delicious and allowed for a few bites each, again, super heavy on the sauce/ oil? Trendy techno play list was the background music and several tables were set for larger parties, so this does have a celebratory feel to it and you could easily spend your weekly pay check on an adult gathering here. Terrific wine list and stunning cocktails.

The cozy, romantic atmosphere made it easy to settle in for a long meal. Sitting by the window overlooking the street, it honestly felt like a scene out of an old romance set in a brownstone in NYC. There was so much to love about the food, too. The pasta tasted fresh and perfectly cooked, my pesto had a great balance of flavor, and both of our drinks were beautifully made. You can tell the kitchen puts care into the ingredients and preparation. Unfortunately, my husband's chicken parmesan came out undercooked. The chicken was clearly raw in the center. It was disappointing, especially on a special occasion, and food safety issues like that are hard to overlook. I do want to highlight that our waitress was outstanding. She noticed something was wrong from across the room and stepped in right away. She handled the situation with professionalism and kindness, and we truly appreciated her attentiveness. What left us surprised was that no one else came by to acknowledge what happened. With something as serious and easily preventable as raw chicken, we expected at least a brief apology or check-in from a manager. It was less about getting something for free and more about feeling taken care of after a pretty significant mistake. Overall, there were some really lovely parts of the experience, but the food issue and lack of follow-up made the night feel more mixed than we had hoped for a celebration dinner.

It's unique and it's simple -- but the flavors created are something to keep coming back for. In my most recent visit, we had a pretty bad experience leading up to the pizzas actually being served. We had some friends visiting and decided to go to grab pizza after sending a small group back to the mainland on the 6 o'clock boat. Our order must have been placed maybe 5 or 10 minutes after 6... we weren't served our first pizza until after 8 PM. And our second pizza lagged behind that one by nearly 10 minutes. I can understand how, taken out of context, this can be seen as a petty complaint. However, it really was a discouraging experience because we had multiple (at least half a dozen) other groups order well after us and enjoy their entire dining experience all around us. The group ordering behind us enjoyed their pizzas, bottles of wine and chit chatted for nearly a half hour after their indulgences... and still rode off in their golf cart before our pizzas even made it into the oven. The part that really baffled me was that we took the opportunity to speak with the staff about what was causing the delay -- simply asking if our pizza order had been started or not yet and the explanation was "our team has made several mistakes this evening and we don't have a good estimate on how long it'll take for your pizzas to be ready". We got the same explanation after waiting for 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour and a half. It seemed like a pretty inadequate answer when their wood-fired oven was often not full of cooking pizzas and their entire staff was dancing to the music playing on their speakers. In the end... the pizza was good (same quality as expected). But my experience left something to be seriously desired.

The sauce was flavorful and the burrata was perfect.
