And they are the only place I know that correctly calls "sausage kolaches" as their real name--Klobásník--or Klobásníky (plural.) but don't expect those to still be there. On a weekday, they might still have these Czech treats until 3 pm, but on the weekends, they go fast! Always friendly staff and i just love looking through their home decor. They have the cutest little tchotchkes that are locally crafted and so wonderful for home, garden, or lawn. I have bought many a christmas and birthday gift on the way. Great metal art as well! The bathrooms are always clean and smell fine. I highly recommend stopping at least one time to see everything they have to offer. It's a true, "small Texas town" stop! Oh, and set the GPS! They do have some wine choices, but the prices are high and the choices aren't that great. They have an iced down beer trough, but no weenie rollers. The owner is always abrupt and unfriendly to cyclists, but will still try to rip us off for overpriced and often overripe bananas which he always suggests to buy at the checkout. He has a different bowl full of his older fruit which he puts on the counter instead of the regular ones before we walk in, just for cyclists. One time he insisted that my own Oakley sunglasses were from his own display stand and insisted on charging me $9.99 for them! His wife sits on a chair in the middle of the store perfectly positioned to observe people using the fountain drink machine at the back, just to check that you are not "stealing" too much ice for your bike bottles. No free refills here! She reminds me of an elementary school lunchtime monitor who doesn't trust any of the 7 year old kids. The cans of soda that used to be 99cents have gone up to $1.49 then $1.79 since COVID, and nothing has a price marked on it so he can (and does) charge us as high a price as he thinks he can get away with. He knows he has a captive city audience with expensive bikes, too much money and not caring about being ripped off with an attitude, as they keep coming back. Other stores are much cheaper by comparison. Today was the final straw for me. The outside temperature was mid 90s and our group of 20 or so cyclists visited the store for hydration and energy bars etc. I chose one of the few priced items which was a large soda fountain drink for $1.99 as I spend as little as possible here nowadays for obvious reasons. When I went to pay with my debit card, he asked me "Do you have cash?". I didn't and he pointed to a small dog eared sign on the counter that said "Minimum $3 card purchase". He insisted on the new soda price being $3 so I left the drink on the cash desk and started to walk out. He shouted after me to come back and pay for it, at which point I gave him a long overdue piece of my mind, then walked out. My colleagues still in there told me he had a foul mouthed rant, including mother****** about me after I left. The good news is that I am now "banned" from the store so I don't have to put up with this pushy, rude, thieving individual who hates all cyclists (but will gladly take all their money) ever again. Maybe we should all rethink our routes to avoid this place? We are not welcome, trust me.

But you absolutely positively want to avoid the two restaurants on the side. The kolaches and baked goods at Nonnie's Bakery are nearly inedible. Given my bad experiences with Nonnie's, I studiously avoided having anything to do with Papa G's. * * * Well, circumstances are circumstances, And for reasons that would come out of a hackneyed situation comedy script, I absolutely positively was stuck taking a dinner at Papa G's. My earlier instincts had been 100% on target. As they say, "The Truth Comes Out in the Wash." * * * I had a small but perfectly acceptable chicken fried steak. The toast that came with it was fine. The price was eminently reasonable. The lady behind the counter was nice. The deal ruiner? The Tater Tots. Looking around at the other tables, I saw the French Fries were exactly the same way. They serve a lot of Tater tots and French Fries at Papa G's. The potato products are Way way way overcooked in the fryer, They are greasy. They taste burnt and unpleasant. I was hungry and this was the only food I was going to get in a while, So I tried to make a go of it. I should have left every Tater Tot except the first one on my plate. * * * Now to be fair, Truckers LOVE The Rocking G. There are a lot of trucks parked in the back and the truckers hang out throughout the complex. The food is inexpensive, and the gas may be inexpensive too. They have good showers, and the physical building is nice. I did NOT have the burgers. Since my chicken fried steak was okay, the burgers may be okay. * * * But given the rough time I was having keeping the meal I had from a) coming up the wrong direction earlier in the evening, or b) departing my system in an disorderly way the next day, I am not that eager to give the burgers a turn at bat.
