I found the best fried pickles in Texas! No kidding I'd drive from Houston to Caldwell for some of these fried pickles! I was trying to pass time to avoid traffic into Houston so I decided to stop in Caldwell to do some boutique shopping. Caldwell has some awesome boutiques FYI!. I was looking for a late lunch/early dinner and decided I wanted some steak. Now this place is by no means fancy but it's definitely hometown feel and obviously a small town staple. I ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Yall 12oz for $26 dollars is an absolute steal. I was worried about the quality due to the price but I was impressed! The meat was good the mashed potatoes tasted sweet though so not a fan of those. But for $26 I wasn't even complaining. Now back to these fried pickle, I text everyone I know "I just found the best fried pickles in Texas" as I scarfed them down. If you are ever passing through you must stop to grab a basket of them. So, for a mom and pop local restaurant they have a lot on the menu to choose from, and everyone in our various parties usually gets different things, never a complaint, only satisfied eaters! Today my beef fried rice was awesome, packed with flavors and the beef seemed to be hand cut in the kitchen. My son's sirloin was cooked to perfection, great flavor, he said it was a bit tough, but the restaurant has no control over the cow! The raw oysters are very good! I like the homemade cocktail sauce the stuffed crab was different but good. I liked the egg roll but I'd call it a shrimp spring roll. We ate here Saturday day 4-8 for the first time. Megan gave us great recommendations on what to eat. She also was very helpful with recommending things for dietary concerns. Unfortunately we came to Texas steak and seafood in Caldwell, TX where the actually owner was the cook-Robert Duck. We ordered steak and lobster but received the thin ribeye steak and 3 shrimps. We let the server know this isn't what we ordered and she apologized and said she'd bring the lobster. The lobster tail came out about 10 minutes later and looked wonderful right up until we cut it and it was not cooked. We let the server know and she took it back and said the owner wanted to know if WE ATE THE THREE SHRIMPS ? Obviously we did. The owner then came out and came out with an attitude. He asked "did you eat the shrimp" and we said yes. He said we cost him a lobster; we explained HE cost himself the lobster and a customer. He refused to comp anything. Hopefully people reading this will be treated better than us. Oh and We also ordered margaritas on the rocks for the special at happy hour and got frozen which we couldn't drink. I'm always dubious about ordering scallops, especially in central Texas. Was I surprised! I ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp and scallops other dirty rice and veggies. The shrimp were size 10-12, and they were bay scallops about 1-1.5". My food came out very quickly, 6-7 minutes after she took the order. The scallops were cooked perfectly! Seared on the outside and warm and soft inside with just the right amount of salt and pepper. Super sweet and very fresh! Worth the stop by themselves. The shrimp were a little over-done but still eatable. They were served with hot clarified butter although the scallops needed nothing else. I will definitely stop here again! read more

Well well well, I would never have expected this place to be as amazing as it is. I was just passing through transporting a dog and after I dropped her off...I was starving. I ask a lot of questions because I don't eat carbs and my waitress Kourtney, answered them all honestly helping me decide what to eat. I landed on the ribeye which was huge and cooked to perfection, I don't even really like most shrimp and these where so fresh.
