I'll make this short and sweet. This place was highly recommended by Austin natives as being some of the best BBQ in town, easily rivaling the Salt Lick. No. I had the sample plate that included ribs, sausage and brisket. The sausage was easily the best part. The brisket was just okay, it had nothing on the Salt Lick. And the ribs were a disgrace. I think any true fan of ribs looks for that fall-off-the-bone softness, and this place did not have it. The drive up here was so fun. We just moved here and had never been up on these roads, so that in itself was nice. The pulled pork sandwich was pretty good, but mostly because the huge, fluffy bun was delicious. The cole slaw was pretty lackluster. The potato salad was good. The beans were pretty good. I had baby back ribs, and I was fairly unimpressed. While the sauce was nice, I had to cut the ribs with my knife to pull them apart. Our server was very helpful, honestly a little too attentive, but overall I think this is worth a try. Our favorite part was sitting on the back deck beside the water in the rocking chairs. There were tons of turtles swimming around the deck (people would drop bread in for them) and it was pretty heavenly. If we go back, it'll have a lot to do with those rocking chairs. read more

The bbq didn't really set itself apart from the stiff competition in the area. The ambience and views were awesome, the beer was cold, and we had exceptional service. We selected family style, so our bill was a little on the higher side but had PLENTY to eat. You definitely need to mark this place off your list. read more

We came here during our one night stay in Austin after following our friend's recommendation. We got there in time to go out back to watch the sunset over the beautiful view of Austin. My husband was allowed to order the all you can eat meal even though it's only supposed to be for the whole table. We appreciated their flexibility. All of their meats were very juicy and tasty. We heard about this place from locals... this place is awesome. food is so good...bbq is delicious....the brisket melts in your mouth! best part is the all you can eat meals. we had to be rolled out of the restaurant. also, they hand make their ice cream. the ice cream tasted like nothing i've ever had (and i've had a lot of ice cream before. haha). Great pork ribs and the brisket was very tender. We went on a Monday night so it wasn't too crowded and ordered the "Cadillac" which basically meant that they would continue to bring as much meat as you want to your table. The bread was fantastic. I was in Austin visiting my brother from California and knew that I wanted bbq. A friend of mine recommended this place and we were both glad we tried it. I would have liked to sit out on the patio to enjoy the view, however, the weather wasn't under the best of circumstances, so we opted to sit inside and you could still have a nice view. Still with the weather had been nicer, but no one can control that. I ordered the three meat plate wtih 2 sides and chose the brisket, pulled pork and paid extra for the rib with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The pulled pork was average nothing special and the rib was pretty good. The rib had a nice flavor, but it was a bit tough. My favorite was probably the brisket (which aside from the rib is what they're known for). It was tender and juicy and had a nice red/pink color, perfectly cooked. Both of my sides were good, but becautious with the mac and cheese, bc it's incredibly thick and rich. My brother, who had just moved to the Austin, enjoyed the food so much, he grabbed a to go menu. So it's safe to say that he'll most likely be visiting again. read more

I can't say I'm really a fan; the BBQ here has never really done it for me. Today I had the hamburger and it was honestly one of the worst I've had in recent memory. A half pound of overcooked lean meat with no juiciness to it at all, a huge overwhelming bun, and soggy lettuce. The fries were pretty good though. The atmosphere is kind of interesting, in a rustic country grandma kind of way. Out of town guests would probably like it. Although there's a nice view of the hill country here, I actually like the ambiance better at the lake location on 2222 that has turtles and a nice outdoor patio with rocking chairs. If you must eat here, I've enjoyed the brisket baked potato in the past. Smothered with beef, BBQ sauce, sour cream, and cheese, it's hard to go wrong with this. I've order take out twice, first time it took an hour 30 over the time listed. This time I'm writing my review as I'm waiting for my food it's been over an hour since they told me it would arrive. We eat here and also get it delivered...same great quality. There aren't enough good things I can say about everything on their menu. Sauce, meats, potato salad is super yummy. I don't personally eat ribs however I have seen others order them and I call them "ribs from the Flintstones". The bacon cheeseburger is also amazing if you aren't in the mood for BBQ. Desserts are also great (p.s. put cinnamon in your peach cobbler) and you will definitely leave full with a little extra left over. I absolutely love love love eating here especially during sunset time. They have a killer happy hour I definitely recommend the wings and pulled pork queso fries with the frozen margarita. On the regular menu all appetizers are good such as the deviled eggs, fried pickles and their newest addition chips and queso. The homemade bread is definitely "worth the extra dough". Great atmosphere and customer service if your looking for a moist brisket then I recommend the 2nd cut if your looking for no marbilization and more Smokey then the leans your type of brisket. Both ribs are juice the pork are more fall off the bone but the beef ribs are killer, absolutely love them. The pork sauce is my favorite it goes well with everything even the potato salad. To finish off your meal if your looking for a great desert try the homemade banana pudding and for a delicious heartier one my all time fave to share is the bread pudding, talk about delicious! If you're in the mood for BBQ, The County Line is great. Austin has two locations. The County Line on the Hill is far and away the better of the two. The view of hill country is fantastic and the menu is much better (they are similar, both featuring the same main dishes, but this location has more selections). The coleslaw is amazing and you should automatically pick it as a side. I'll admit that I have never ordered anything other than baby back ribs because they are the best anywhere around. The BBQ sauce on the pork ribs is much better than the sauce for the beef. I have tried the chicken here and can highly recommend that as well. As some other reviewers have written, the fresh made wheat bread is really great topped with some honey and butter. If you're looking for a sports bar, this isn't the restaurant for you. It you want some fantastic baby back ribs, go to The County Line as soon ad possible. read more

I had the brisket/sausage combo plate for lunch. The highlight was the blackeyed peas, which were delicious. Next were the fries, which were tasty. The home-cooked bread was also good (though it cost extra at lunch). The actual barbecue, however, was extremely mediocre. The sausage was barely above OK, and the brisket was overcooked almost to the point of mushiness. The accompanying sauce was also very sweet. Service was solid, and if this was any other type of restaurant I would probably give 3 stars. However, mediocre bbq is a mortal sin! I came here with the girlfriend for lunch totally by accident. We were driving to a coffee shop, but I saw the sign for County Line and immediately pulled in as a result of 1) being so hungry I could eat almost anything 2) both of us loving barbeque and 3) hearing some pretty good things about the place. We ordered the combo platter with 5 meats, along with some homemade white bread, all for both of us to share. Best part of the meal was definitely the bread, which is disappointing. Girlfriend liked the bbq sauce a lot, but the meats were all almost inedible. The ribs (both the pork and beef) were horribly dry, to the point that the gf remarked, "It's like eating bad beef jerky." Everything tasted overwhelmingly like pepper. I told the server about the ribs (I VERY rarely complain to servers) and he brought back pretty good ones to make up for it... however, this left us wondering what we were eating before. The sausage was actually very tender and pretty good (minus the pepper taste), but not enough to redeem the whole meal. I gave this place two stars because the hostess and our server were very nice and the view out the back is incredible. Worth trying once, but I feel ashamed for ever doubting that the Salt Lick was the best bbq around Austin. read more

Had a great day with my family. Took my girls, niece, sister, & brother in law to the County Line on the Hill before they left for home. Great food & service. I appreciate the extra special hospitality by the management /staff & the invitation to come by and have lunch. My niece thought Stu the talking bull was sooo funny. We ship BBQ to Ohio using their airribs website they're that good! :) My sister had not been in 20 years. My brother in law and niece had never been. They had a great time and were able to get some good family moment type pictures with my 6 year old daughter and 3 year old niece. A secret for you dog owners is to ask you waitstaff nicely for some dog bones. They always set up my dog real nice. Oh, and that view out there is gorgeous. Enough of my typing... A group of us went for lunch on a sunny Thursday at noon. We were seated right away. We chose the patio, but there were plenty of tables inside, as well. Service was prompt and efficient. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous. The ambiance was amusing. The view was fantastic. The food was... okay. This was my fourth BBQ joint in five days in Austin and it didn't really outshine any of the others. There was nothing bad about the 'Q, it was fine. The brisket was tender. The sausage a little spicy. Much ado has been made about the homemade bread. One member of our party bought a loaf for the table. He chose wheat, but I wish he had gotten the mixed. I can only evaluate what I ate and I have to say that I wasn't wowed. Again, it was okay. One thing I will note is that if a restaurant prides themselves on bread (and County Line is proud of their bread), they should care enough to serve butter with it. Butter, folks. It comes from cows, not canola. Finally, if you're here, it's true what people say about the mac & cheese. It's super creamy and delicious. I wanted to order more for dessert. If you don't leave wanting to loosen your belt you should have gotten the home made bread before and cobbler after. They are thoughtful too. Ship bbq to troops, the owner is involved in city government to advocate for restaurants and off fish Fridays during lent. Absolutely add them to your list of places to go for bbq in Austin. Every time I've gone to The County Line there's usually family involved and I haven't been able to order steak until last night! Don't get me wrong, having barbeque hasn't been a bad thing...but in a city full of it, I've had my fill... Last night, however, I tried the smallest tenderloin - and I need to tell you, this ranks up there with the best steak I've ever had (I've tried every restaurant downtown). Perfectly cooked to medium (that's hard for most restaurants, normally I need to send it back, etc. etc.). This steak was not heavily seasoned -- thank GOD! Another thing I hate about eating steaks out is that they are slathered in seasoning. It totally takes away from the meat's flavor! This steak had a hint of smoke and maybe a pinch of salt...that's it!! Easy to cut and melt-in-your-mouth amazing!!! TRY THE STEAK!!! Plus you get 3 sides with it... I took the salad and coleslaw home... A baked potato loaded - OMG, I ate that there. But you've got enough food for a couple days depending on which size steak you pick. IT LOOKS EXPENSIVE AT FIRST, BUT AFTER YOU TASTE IT, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT (my husband was recently laid off and I thought twice about it, but now I am so happy I chose it). The smallest filet had no fat to cut off! Also worth mentioning is my waitstaff - OMG. Still totally attentive while a huge wedding party showed up along with 3 long table parties. They were all over us, in a good way. A lot could've gone wrong with this night because we were on tight schedule in order to see a performance up the road... Oh, and not to mention the homemade wheat bread. It was life changing. This is real Texas BBQ. If there was a nationwide contest for the best server, Jenna, our server, would win hands down. I just arrived in Austin and this was the first place my friend took me to eat in the city. I have to say that I am in love with BBQ! Coming from California, it was never something that I craved until now. Had the turkey and marbled brisket combo platter along with fabulous garlic mashed potatoes and a side salad. The portions were massive! I brought home enough for lunch and probably dinner the next day. I have to say I don't eat meat very often anymore, but went here with a friend who suggested it. I ordered the baby back ribs and while the flavor was delish, the ribs themselves were tough. When I do indulge in eating meat, I expect to be eating the best there is and these were pretty average. Mac and cheese was good and the pecan vinaigrette with the side salad was absolutely amazing. Portions were large and we left absolutely stuffed and without being able to finish. Service was excellent! Our waiter was always coming by to check on things and even brought us complementary bread which was very tasty. Overall, we had a good time and the price wasn't horrible. Ever. there is enough chicken on the chicken plaster for a week of leftover sandwiches, the potatoes are so thick and creamy you'll see that the side of mashed potatoes is truly never ending, and the bread. The bread and honey butter. A platter per person rolls about $15, and you will totally have leftovers. This is seriously one of the, if not the, best barbecue meat I've ever had. The view is and ambiance is nice on the patio. The bbq is not on par with Terry Blacks or others in the Austin area.

This place is awful. Kitschy decor would be ok if the bbq was actually authentic, and appetizing. They seem to have gotten so "big", they've lost sight of what good bbq is. We got pork ribs, "moist" brisket, and pulled pork, and for sides, mac and cheese and fried okra. The meat had no flavor and everything was the same mushy consistency. Even with added salt and tons of their sickingly sweet bbq sauce the flavor never improved. The mac and cheese was watery and also had no flavor. It's just overall a sad shell of what might have been a good restaurant at some point, but now is a talking bull head. read more
