All while I maintained a positive attitude and understanding on impossible wait times even though the restaurant was empty. Food was not as good as it use to be. Fries were precooked and and were not golden crispy fries. Owner was loud and and made claims that were not true. Place needs a good cleaning. This was actually not our first or second choice to have lunch but the others were either not open (on a Tuesday after Labour Day) or wasn't appealing. We parked the vehicle and asked a local standing out front if this restaurant was any good. He assured us it was so in we went. The waitress greeted us right away and pushed another table together to seat the 7 of us. We were the only table seated when we arrived but by the time we left there were a few more tables filled up. The grilled cheese was a great suggestion from the waitress! I was deciding between that and the Monte Cristo. I'm sure the Monte Cristo would've been good but I was very happy with my decision to go with the grilled cheese. Bacon and melty cheese with friends, yum. Seeing fried cheesecake on the chalkboard on the wall was enough for us to order it to try. You win some you lose some. Put this one in the loss pile. Stopped in for lunch while in the area. The two stars given are for the friendly wait staff, the rest of the stars are for the food. I ordered the schnitzel sandwich and a side Greek salad. The order was very slow to come out. The schnitzel was over cooked on the outside and raw inside and was served on a hamburger bun instead of a focaccia bun as advertised. Was supposed to come with sautéed mushrooms on top but the mushrooms weren't cooked in the least. The Greek salad was also dismal with mostly lettuce, finely chopped tomato, and sliced olives.....likely prepared as pizza toppings. The schnitzel was sent back and then another 20 minute wait to get a hamburger. Wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend. read more

We were in Fenelon Falls and of course needed to try this little place, it's pretty small and it was fairly busy so we were happy to grab a table and order some beverages....they still mix a "real" Long Island Ice Tea here and that's not always easy to find. Unfortunately our server was visibly irritable but maybe she has just had enough of tourists and city folk in general; coming from a cottage country town myself I do understand We weren't really there to eat but based on some other reviews, ordered the mozzarella sticks , all I can say is Wow!, I have never had sticks like this and really they're not sticks at all but wedges made in house and so delicious. Came in to sample the new breakfast menu. I had the standard breakfast: overeasy eggs, peameal bacon, homefries and rye toast. It was mostly good, but homefries need to be cooked on the flattop, with onions and peppers. Their homefries were deepfried and that was a major disappointment. Went here in August while on vacation, hadn't been in a while. As we waited for our food, I remembered... oh yeah, this always happens. You walk in, there are plenty of empty tables so it doesn't seem busy, but they are focussing on take out orders. We waited 40 minutes for fish and chips (had that mushy taste that said they were cooked from frozen) and a kid-sized pizza that was also obviously cooked from frozen - the cheese on top was barely melted, but the crust was a bit burnt at the edges. Blecch. While we were waiting, a server came out on three separate occasions to apologize to another table for how long their order of wings was taking. Seriously, none of this stuff takes long to prepare! I ordered their "famous" ribs once, and they were cold - tasted like they had been in the fridge a long time, and in the microwave a short time. Also, there were so many flies! Flies all over the entire dining room. Ugh ugh ugh. Next time we're in Fenelon Falls I will remember not to go here! read more

Ordered mozzarella sticks, burger with onion rings and chicken strips with fries. Everything deep fried tasted like fish. The ketchup was off and there were flies everywhere. I server was friendly but so loud and pushy. The place wasn't busy. No one enjoyed their food. Tasteless (other than a fishy after taste) and oily. Will avoid in the future. read more

This place is awesome. Small and dated but the service is top notch. The waitress was amazing, knew her menu and made suggestions and boy is she good. The portions are ridiculous. The small nachos were so big that I was full and didn't even reach the middle of the plate. The fish and chips is delicious, and unless you're starving, get the one piece. It's almost a foot long piece of fish, and if you get the large portion, you get two of these monsters! The all-beef hot dog is awesome. Really, anything you order here will be good. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size you get. And leave a good tip, these people are really awesome at what they do. And, free movie-theatre style popcorn while you wait! This place is outstanding! Was in town and decided to stop in for a quick lunch. Got the mozzarella sticks to start... this was the start to the most amazing lunch I've had in months. The GF and I shared the breakfast poutine and boneless wings. Service was quick and super friendly. We didn't even have to ask! Refills, napkins and more. It was like the staff was reading our minds. When in Fenlon Falls this is a nice place to stop for some good pub food and beer. We ordered the Greek salad and it was fresh and as good as any I've had in a pub before. We also ordered the fish tacos and they were great. You get two tacos per order and each taco is a big half a piece of battered fish from the fish 'n' chips in half a large tortilla on top of a coleslaw spiced with jalopinos. You also get fries. The order is big, three of us shared two orders and we barley finished the tacos and left half the fries. Next time we drive through town I plan on trying some other stuff from the menu. While heading out to a friends cottage, decided to stop for lunch in Fenelon Falls. Saw this pub and thought it looked worth checking out. Well luckily I was right - service was awesome, waitresses were kind and funny, attentive. The food was amazing. My fiancé had a burger with Greek salad, he really enjoyed it. I had the hockey wrap with fries.. Both were delicious. So happy we stopped at the Cow and the Sow! Will make sure to visit again! Side note - waitress seemed to know a lot of the locals who walked past on the street (we sat outside, which includes a mister for hot day, which was needed that afternoon!), everyone was very happy and said hello to each other. The perogies were well done as well as my companion's pizza. it was a Saturday night and an hour before the live music started, the service was fast and attentive. Should be accessible. I know this review likely won't mean much as the Cow is a staple in Fenelon, however you need to step up your customer service before all the cottagers come into town. Still sitting here waiting for my bill after horrendous service. Of our party of 4 2 of us partially got our food, then about 10 mins later the rest did minus a salad. The salad then came out when we were pretty much finished eating, the waitress gave us some attitude, not necessary. I've been coming to the Cow and Sow since it opened what 20 years ago? Mistakingly dropped in here for a late dinner with my two young sons on the way home from the cottage. My boys were notably hungry so naturally you would think that someone at a restaurant would at the very least acknowledge your presence when you sit down at one of their empty tables. Shockingly that was not the case..we didn't get a single look in our direction, there was no hello, no I'll be right with you, no menus dropped on our table!! In fact another customer was disgusted with our treatment that he dropped some menus on our table. I know what you're thinking...oh my god! Yeah, that's an understatement so after no change in mood or service after at least 15 minutes I decided to take my hungry 7 and 9 year olds to another restaurant at 8:30 at night!!! This place has no class or clue on how to treat other human beings..at least if you're not a local. So sad that people are so closed minded still in this day in age!! Teachers I hope you're reading because this is how some of your students will treat others if you don't show them the right way!! They're obviously not getting any guidance at home!!! I have to say that I am a huge fan of the Cow and Sow. When I first moved to Fenelon Falls in 2000 I tried all the different restaurants and eateries in town - for a small town, there are a ton of restaurants. My favourite (especially for the chicken wings) was "The Cow". At that time, it had the same owner but a different manager than they have now. Back in 2000, some of the meals were "hit and miss". Since they have changed managers and gone to fresh foods all the time...they have awesome specials nightly, all the food is really well prepared and the service, although sometimes a little slow (when they are really busy) is first rate. I have never had a server show anything other than respect and friendliness. They always have a smile for you. My favourite meals are chicken wings, roast beef dip, burgers (freshly made, not the frozen kind) and the fish and chips (huge pieces of fish). I would recommend them to anyone who asked me for a great place to eat. If you only want a cold beer or drink, there is also a bar, albeit small, to "wet your whistle".
