We rented a boat from James(owner)to go fishing for a couple hours. All was good until we tried to…read morerestart the boat to move to a different fishing location. The boat wouldn't turn over and we had to troubleshoot for about 20-25 minutes. Once we got "emergency instructions" as according to James over the phone, we were able to get the boat back running and returned immediately to the docks. This ended our trip 30-45 minutes early plus the time we spent troubleshooting the boat so we asked James for a refund of the cost of just 1-hour. At that point he became hostile and told me "if I was an experienced boater like I claimed I was" there wouldn't have been any issues. He claimed all experienced boaters know you never turn a boat off on a river. I grew up boating on the Colorado River and this is news to me. James then became visibly angry and starting yelling that if we didn't leave the docks immediately he was going to call the police and tell them we were operating under the influence. I was DD for our trip and I hadn't drank that day so I welcomed him to do so. He then retreated to the office and never came back out. We decided to cut our losses. What turned out as a nice Sunday of fishing with friends ended on a very sour note. I won't be renting from James or this company ever again.

Our daughter had spent part of her growing-up years here in Frankfort, where my husband and I have lived for 50+ years. She enjoys introducing her Colorado daughter to the beautifully forested, living beauty of Kentucky's natural world. Before departing the dock, we enjoyed browsing in the gift shop, with a great assortment of caps, tee shirts, memorabilia, and some Ale8! Upon boarding the boat, the crew offered a bourbon service that would rival most any local selection. We all enjoyed lovely bourbon refreshments! Together with visitors from Tennessee and other nearby states, we learned some Kentucky River geography and history, along with equine, bourbon, and horse racing history. The captain was skillful and knowledgeable, as she cruised the riverboat on the sunny Sunday afternoon. The tour guide was a true font of history with amusing anecdotes of his personal career in the bourbon industry and his overall knowledge of the Commonwealth. Treat yourself, your family and your friends to an altogether enjoyable, educational, and Kentucky-based adventure-- spend some time on the riverboat! You'll be glad you did! He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

The climate and culture dating back to the 1800s still runs through the city today. The company that operates Angels Envy is Louisville Distilling Co. The founder was Lincoln Henderson. This gentleman went to college right here in Louisville and after forty plus years of working in a distillery worked his way to the top as master distiller. His own brews are pretty good too. How about Jack Daniel's Gentleman's Jack. That was Mr. Henderson. The building that Angels Envy occupies was occupied prior by American Elevator and Machine and American Saw. Later it existed as Vermont American Complex, then it was abandoned. The site was deteriorated but became the place where in 2010 revival. The Henderson family and Louisville Distilling Co made their permanent presence. They invested in the surrounding area too. They made a massive complex when you visit . Now come and visit today. Learn the basics of how the Henderson family double distills their Angels Envy in a wine cast barrel after aging. Taste the quality of their legacy that will establish and endure the ages. July 19th, I put down $150 deposit for a four hour boat rental at Louisville Boat Rentals…read more Birthday Celebration gift to myself. There was a full conversation between the owners wife and myself about how all of my Birthday have been bad, and how much I needed this, for myself. So on July 25th, the day of, my fiance and I arrive, fill out the paperwork and paid. I was told by the owner, James' wife, that for this transaction, they only take cash. She then directed me to their ATM. The ATM only allowed $200 withdrawals at a time. So my fiance withdrew the remaining $100 needed. The $300 fee consisted of $280 for the four hours at $70/hour, and $20 for fuel. Now, my mistake is that I was so stressed, but then excited as well, that I failed to ask for a receipt. And she knew this. Even kept asking for one, knowing that she didnt give me one. It was about 30 till time for us to return the boat, when I get the call from James starting that his wife didnt collect the $300. We turned back instantly. Once we got back to the boat, James started yelling and saying that he's called the police and for us to get the F@#k off of his boat. Now, we're scrambling to collect our belongings and he threatened us saying that "if we dont hurry up, we wont make it off his boat!" Both the husband James, and his wife were deceitful and ghetto. I paid it all in front of their daughter and others that were there, and when everything happened, the Daughter and wife were laughing and jeering us. There's much more, but I'm just giving an intro idea of the horrible ordeal that I endured. And need for this to be reported. This was my Birthday Gift...

While we enjoyed our time on the scenic Ohio River, the boat was in less than satisfactory condition. I consider myself to be an experienced boater, as I grew up around a variety of boats and began driving them at a young age. However, I had many difficulties with the boat our group rented, culminating in a required tow back to shore after approximately two hours of being stranded on the water. Aesthetically the boat was in poor condition, but functional. The seats were covered in various tapes hiding many presumable gashes and tears. The steering of the pontoon was very stiff and cumbersome even for a pontoon. The stereo was not functional. All of the dials on the dash were either not labeled or very faded, making it difficult to discern what each knob or switch would do. During our time on the water the RPM gauge stopped functioning and the center console which housed all of the gauges, knobs, switches and steering would beep in what seemed like a random manner. Wires were exposed openly including the fuse box, which made me nervous that any water could splash onto them. If you're expecting a Pontoon in pristine condition this is not the service for you.

The staff was incredibly accommodating and worked with my family on logistics, catering, bar options, parking and keeping the entire thing a surprise up until the moment I walked through the door. The venue itself was very clean, spacious and flexible. My favorite part about it was all the Kentucky derby memorabilia that fills the walls - it's like walking through a museum! I highly recommend using this venue for parties, receptions, showers or anything else you can think of.

We enjoyed our time with our guide at the Frazier getting a brief knowledge overview of bourbon before our journey began. We started bright and early with a delicious tasting there! We then had a delicious lunch that was ready almost exactly when we arrived, which was great after already having a few tastes! The tours at Jim Beam and Heaven Hill were very informative and enjoyable. We really hope to go to try out the Thursday and Friday tours sometime soon!

Great professional staff and safety is their #1 priority. Located right in the city, just a short drive to get there. This is the most open cavern I have ever been in and you almost feel like you are in a dark warehouse, it's so big! No "tight" spaces of any kind. Heights might be your issue if that is a concern. If you have any climbing, repelling, spelunking, or exploring experience, this is a "walk in the park" for you. No experience is needed and they take care of everything. There's a lot to like about the boathouse. Its location is perfect -- right by a launch site,…read moretucked behind Towhead Island, with easy access to Beargrass Creek. The perfect spot (public access) to set your small watercraft afloat. The boathouse facility also promotes the waterfront environment by hosting canoe tours of Beargrass Creek for school and corporate groups. And while there's no boat rental here, they do apparently offer canoe/kayak/paddle board storage at pretty reasonable fees if the website is to be trusted. The only real down side is that the boathouse and their advocates are pretty limited in their public outreach, communicating with already-connected groups but not so much with the swaths of humanity that crowd the park each summer. Most locals and tourists won't get a chance to float upstream. Perhaps this will change as Botanica grows and Beargrass Creek gets cleaned up (as promised) in the next several years. But if you're among the industrious and adventurous, by all means do contact these people to arrange a group outing. Beargrass and the Ohio are a lot more approachable than one might think.
