Service is really good. Food is pretty much meh. I've been twice while visiting family and was never impressed with the seafood. Seems not fresh (for sure), hushpuppies seem bought at a store not homemade. There are just much better places to get seafood. The event was well worth the money we had vip tickets My daughter and my son took me for my birthday along with my niece her husband and his sister and husband , and even my 21 year grandson came. We had a ball. The crab feast was well over my expectations. We had endless crabs , shrimps, corn, hush puppies, bbq chicken wings, t and a piece of bbq rib that was to die for. Everything was just delicious . Afterwards, we got on the boat and danced like no one was watching . The Dj was great all the right beats to get the party started. We played corn toss and I won a hundred gift certificate so yes , I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great time on the water. Ordered these after an epic fail from a different Maryland crab house. It was a time sensitive order for a family event, last minute. These blues were going to Alaska so options were limited. Happy to say the Crab Place stepped up and they did not disappoint! I've not had the chance to try their crab, but the feedback from family are a solid 5 stars. The shipment came in time, overnight. The blues were kicking and snapping alive, fresh. Packaging and shipment were top notch. The crab cakes were also fantastic and really generous size. Sized like a swollen golf ball but bigger. They even provided table liners. Seriously? Crab House knows what's important, they literally thought of everything. Had some scary thoughts of sending this precious cargo from Maryland all the way to Anchorage. I live in California but grew up by the Chesapeake Bay and I like Dungeness crabs but they don't compare to Bay crabs. I have been trying for seven years to find a place that can ship quality crabs and crabmeat to the west coast and have FINALLY found it. This is my third order with them and each one was perfect, the fresh colossal crabs are huge, packed with meat and delicious. The jumbo lump crabmeat is some of the best I have had in 40 years of eating blue crabs. Overnight shipping for the large cooler needed to keep them fresh is very reasonably priced. This place is the real deal, some of the other outfits are pretty sketchy, I'm looking at you Cameron's. I'll be back for sure. read more

We ordered a bushel of crabs to enjoy over the holiday weekend with family & friends and were extremely disappointed in a pretty darn expensive meal. We ordered heavy seasoning...they had practically none when they arrived. The flavor was so off-putting on a lot of them and many of them were just downright MUSHY and inedible (or at least ones we were not willing to risk getting sick off of). Over half of them had cracked shells or were missing large chunks of the outer shell. It's hard to tell when that happened but many of them with cracked shells had a foul odor and taste. A few of them were black inside. We didn't keep track of them during the first sitting, but out of the last half bushel, 8 of 20 crabs were inedible. That's 40% of what we opened!!!! There were 12 left which we have yet to open but all of those outer shells are fine. Even still, that's a 25% trash rate on a half bushel. Apply that math to the price of the whole bushel and that's throwing $120 down the drain. Not to mention just being completely disappointed with the whole experience. We contacted The Crab Place immediately during business hours to inform them of our dissatisfaction. The response? To paraphrase, it had to be an anomaly, cracked shells are fine, seasoning is subjective. They took zero responsibility for their product, even after we sent these photos. Basically told us we didn't know what we're talking about and they offered us a free half bushel when we ordered $100 or more of product from them in the future. Now I ask you...WHY would I spend MORE money with you when you jipped me on what I paid for? That's NOT customer service. read more

We are very happy, we had the colossal male crabs delivered and they were right on time. They did get delayed initially, it was a huge storm coming, and totally understandable; they called and said that the storm was affecting the catch of the colossals and I could get another size, we wanted colossals and so were fine with a week later. We grew up eating Md blue crab (southern PA) and now live right near the ocean, in Massachusetts, but you cant get blue crab here. My total experience was with their mail order service. Received about five orders. All were professionally selected, packed and shipped. Each crab order was perfect, and being from Maryland they were perfect. Also over the years, the marketing of crabs have changed .... 50 years ago there was only three types of crab meat. Claw .... regular and back fin. Now they have four or five. Hard crabs were small ,medium and large.... Now four or five. I guess that marketing. So I don't do reviews often. I currently live in the west coast and the one thing I miss about the East is family, friends and blue crabs. Due to the times I was not able to make it back to NC this summer. Which would have made it 3 years without crabs. I've heard people mailing them before but with the money and shipping I was nervous. I received them yesterday and they were cold, full, plump and tasty with medium seasoning they were great! Smelled just like the beach. I bought the half bushel premium males. After all my research I found it's worth the extra money to pay for the 1 day shipping. Though it said it might not get here until 9pm they showed up at 1:30pm so we were able to have them for dinner. Currently I'm in a small mountain town and this exceeded my expectations. I also dealt with customer service as my card was flagged for some address precautions. Jasmine H with customer service was prompt and amazing to work with and helped resolve the issue quickly. They really have a star with her. Highly recommend this service if you need to hit that spot. Also leading up to Labor Day they discounted the crabs like $90 which covered the shipping. I'm a big fan of The Crab Place! Crisfield, MD is apparently known as "Seafood Capital of the World". According to their website, the Crab Place is owned by Greg Cain and his brother Matt Cain. They started in 1997 by selling and shipping and won the SBA Maryland Entrepreneurial Success of the Year Award in 2001. I was introduced to The Crab Place by a friend (who currently lives in San Diego, CA) but was formerly from Maryland area. So why am I reviewing this place?!? Because I also now live in California and miss fresh crabs! The lovely friend of mine has hosted several meetup parties over the summer for crabs and found this place to be the best for home delivery (in terms of packaging, shipping, and logistics) albeit a little pricey. According to her, it is also best to get the crabs already steamed. It makes the packaging and shipping a lot easier for the business and easier for her as the recipient. All I know is that I see the outcome, I show up to the party and EAT, EAT, EAT and FEAST some more. The crabs are still FRESH tasting! Delicious! ENJOY! read more

Never would I have thought that crabs being shipped from another state would be safe or fresh or good. WELP The Crab Place def proved me wrong. The crabs are everything expected. These were ordered from my friend who lives in Maryland and says the crabs are different from S. Florida. I'm not sure what he meant but I must say these crabs were delicious, meaty, sweet, flaky, and flavorful. The only negative I have is there were 50 crabs delivered and about 10 were crushed/cracked and not edible and there were maybe about 4 that were very light weight and no meat. My family loves crab and we make the trek to MD almost every year for their crabs. To celebrate my MIL's birthday, we decided to try something different and have blue crabs from MD shipped to us. After searching online we decided to go with crabplace.com. We read some mixed reviews that made us nervous, but at the end we were so glad we gave them a chance. It was recommended that we order STEAMED crabs instead of live as there is no guarantee all of them will be alive upon delivery. The website states a 15% mortality rate but could be higher based on the shipping environment, weather, and shipping delays. Who would want dead crabs? So we ordered a dozen steamed colossal male hard crabs and a dozen jumbo female hard crabs. The crabs were shipped overnight and arrived the next afternoon in a styrofoam cooler. Within the cooler were some great looking and large crabs covered in old bay seasoning. A brown paper table cloth was included which was very helpful. We reheated them in batches and from there began our shell cracking feast. The male crabs were larger and much meatier then the females (almost twice as much), and the seasoning was more than enough. The crabs tasted fresh and delicious. We even found an extra 5 crabs in our order which was a nice surprise. I had to tap out after 4 crabs. Next time we will order just males. All in all, we had a good experience with crab place and it's wonderful to know we can enjoy MD crabs anytime in our own home. read more

My family and I are longtime subscribers to The Crab Place. We are from Maryland and now live in Connecticut and order crabs from The Crab Place every season because they are usually very good. On just two occasions over the past decade, we had an unpleasant experience with them, both times with the operations manager, Matt Cain. This past experience has my husband and me so terribly upset that I must share this. We ordered a half bushel of the large female crabs and received an email that due to the weather they would not be able to fulfill that order and offered the medium female crabs, with extras in the box. When accepted that offer and when we received our box we were sorely let down. We took an image, attached, of the crabs, noting that we did not think they were medium crabs. I sent an email to the customer rep, Jasmine, immediately to share our disappointment. The following morning, Matt Cain emailed me to state that per my image, those crabs fit into the medium female crab size, as they measure them from shell point to shell point. You can see the crabs in the image on the bottom, and technically if you measure point-to-point, despite the size of the core, they fit into the medium crab size requirement, JUST BARELY. Matt's email went on to ask me how many of the crabs we ate and enjoyed to get this matter resolved, as he noted, "if necessary." I replied that I was very disappointed in the response and that we did not enjoy ANY of them. I further pointed out that I would think the state of Maryland would take a dim view if they were selling anything smaller than these, period. Well, the reply to my emails was a) there is no requirement for female crabs per the state of Maryland, but b) I am more than welcome to take it up with the state, c) don't order what you don't want, and d) send back to us next time for a full refund or credit. The Crab Place may be well within their rights to sell crappy crabs as substitutes, but to make a customer feel bad about a negative experience is never acceptable. It is also sad that they would not only point out that they were within their rights, per the measurement of point-to-point on the crab shell, but double-down to defend it, and then challenge the customer to take it up with the state of Maryland. Matt did ask me how many we ate and enjoyed. He indicated that he would "if necessary" resolve the matter. We ate and enjoyed none of those crabs, which I stated to him, and we still do not have a resolution. If you want good Maryland crabs, they do provide them. However, don't have any issues with them because you may be treated poorly. read more

We ordered at 11 am PST and The crabs came the next day by noon, my time. I ordered a dozen and received 14, that's a win! They were meaty, well seasoned and delicious. I have been using The Crab Place for a number of years and they are a terrific company to work with. The steamed crabs always arrive on the appointed day. They are always packed very well and they are cooked just the way we like, with heavy seasoning. We have introduced friends to this delicacy, at least the friends who like to get their hands dirty when they eat. When they are cold, we put the crabs in a covered roasting pan with about an inch of water on the bottom and put them in the oven for about an hour at 350 degrees, Warm, moist crabs ae even better than cold ones. We were looking to order male colossal crabs. I called and was told they didn't have any males at that time. My husband called back and asked about the jumbo females. Those were in so that's what we ordered and had shipped to our home in Baltimore, MD. When you hear jumbo crabs what picture comes to mind. Certainly not the crabs in these pictures. We eat crabs year round and we were extremely unsatisfied. And even more, our guests were just as unsatisfied. The size was more of a medium than a jumbo. The measurement from point to point was supposed to be roughly 6 inches. The point itself was an inch long and the body of a medium and possibly a few large. read more

Really good if you are going there for the Crab Feast. Not so if you are ordering crabs. My main concern is the extreme overpricing. For people who don't normally have access to fresh seafood, i.e, people living in Ohio, Indiana, etc., pricing may seem okay. For people who live near the Atlantic shore...not so much. I grew up in MD, and now in Boston, so wanted to order live crabs to steam ourselves. The Crab Place was so professional. While I ordered a certain size, they couldn't fulfill the number I ordered from what they caught, so gave me some colossals and some smaller crabs. They arrived ice cold and all were alive, fresh but sleepy from the ice packs that kept them so fresh. The priority overnight shipping definitely contributes to the price, but the quality is worth it. The crabs were amazing and the service excellent. For the very first time I have experienced subpar service from Crabplace. I've ordered from them for years and they have now just lost a customer and I instructed my family and friends to do the same. I ordered steamed/seasoned crabs and as I always do upon arrival I took out 2 to heat and eat before we all sit and enjoy as a family. I ate 1 and got an ammonia smell which becomes stronger as the crab cools. This is a very frightening experience as this has never happened to me ever in my life and I'm in my 50s. I sent Crabplace an email and my response was "how many would you say you ate and enjoyed before getting the ammonia smell?" Ate and enjoyed?! After smelling what I would deem rotten seafood, the previous eaten crab should not be considered an enjoyable experience. I then asked should I be concerned and why did this occur. I had to ask that twice in different emails. Jasmine then stated it's an anomaly and I should not be concerned. If it's an anomaly, how would you know i shouldn't be concerned? She never explained why this occurred. I requested a refund and she stated I could receive a credit. I said I'm not interested in purchasing for the remainder of this year and would prefer a refund. These are uncertain times and I thought I would bring a little normalcy and joy to my family during this pandemic. She further stated I could receive a refund if I returned the crabs. "Ok, great will you send me a label?" No, you have to pay for return shipping. WOW, how insulting. What company wants to receive a bushel of rotten seafood? They know you will not be willing to pay $50 to ship back to them to receive a refund. I used to commend Matt on his great customer service and told him he should train other businesses. Not anymore. I've lost hope in how we treat one another. I've contacted my bank and they're of no help either. Jasmine did not apologize until the 3rd correspondence. Her first sentence should not have been "how many did you eat and enjoy..." Every now and then you cut your losses. It seems to me if you only offer credits, there's never a loss and that's very unfortunate. You're only great until there's a dilemma then you're no different than all the other proprietors.
