It took me four years to finally set foot in the Crescent because the stench (urine? stale beer?) kept me out the first few times I pondered going in. Tonight it smelled more like cleaning products, and I really wanted some karaoke, so I ventured in. Well, let me tell you, there is nothing like having a few beers, making some new friends, watching your new friends wait two hours to sing, only to learn at "last call" they can' t sing tonight, oh well, Saturday, better luck next time, then going to the bar to pay your tab, waitng.. politely waiting... got your wallet out, making eye contact, "I'd better pay..." they see you but they're putting away glasses, no worries, end of the night, lots of people, Saturday, just waiting to pay your tab, any time now, then having some COUNTRY ASS bouncer start COPPING TOUGH ATTITUDE with you, GRUFFLY BARKING ABOUT HOW IF YOU DON'T WORK HERE YOU NEED TO GET OUT!!!!!! Ooops, sorry, mister bouncer, I'm just politely and obviously waiting to PAY MY DAMN TAB after waiting around to sing all night BUT THANKS FOR ACTING TOUGH LIKE I'M YOUR DAMN PROBLEM MOTHER FUCKER!!!! Screw them, there are much friendlier dives in which to to drink PBR, get hit on and sing karaoke with better selections. I will say this, the clientele were nice, but the staff act like they don't know how to run a bar, they were just all mello yello until law time and then they freaked out like they don't know how to close a damn bar without alienating their guests. Pay to Play Karaoke is not worth the sea of Hipster dirtbags. Avoid Danitza on Friday nights if you actually want to sing. I started coming to the Crescent a couple of years ago, and if I had reviewed it then, I would have given it a much higher rating. The bartenders there are mostly great. I've had some decent drinks, I've had some strong drinks, and very rarely, I've had some awful drinks. Like, no whiskey in my whiskey and soda awful. But for the most part, great. What has pretty much killed the Crescent for me is the crowd. It used to be a crazy mix of eclectic people - just how a dive bar should be. But the Hipsters have invaded. Particularly on Friday nights. Seriously. It is a sea of horn rimmed glasses, beards, and thrift shop couture. I would give Sunday nights a 4-star rating, and Friday nights a 1-star. No star, if that were possible. Danitza is the WORST Karaoke host I've ever seen, in the three states I've lived in, and dozens of karaoke bars I've been to over the years. News flash - I tip waiters and bartenders AFTER they serve me, not before. You are no different. My friends and I showed up at 9:00pm, and put our songs in right away. I understand that a good host will shuffle the songs up a bit, for the mood of the night, but she constantly puts people off to the side, and never works them into the rotation. In the time we were there, only three of the twelve of us got to sing. I've been there on busier Saturdays, where I waited only an hour to sing. At 1:30am, we gave up and went home. I wouldn't have minded the 4.5 hour wait, if the bar was packed, but it was half empty. Danitza worked herself into the rotation plenty of times - she sang three times just while I was there. Some of her hipster friends sang four times. FOUR. She plays favorites among her friends. NOT COOL. If I come back, it'll only be on Sundays, when Marc is hosting. read more

Well, guess this is another thing that I can find to complain about, in life. Apparently, a friend of mine was asked to leave a bar, without the possibility of return, after some people had expressed some concern about him talking to them, "what I heard". However, the exact same bar, "The Crescent", deems it very appropriate to ask an aggressive drunk that physically and aggressivly attacks two people working at the bar, to leave for a specific amount of time only. Simply because this ass is "buddies" with one of the owners sons, who seems to think that he is the owner of the bar. Suffice to say, my time at this place is going to be rather minimal, simply because crackheads and "tweekers" seem to get away with anything and everything, and still get to maintain a guest pass in this bar, simply because of who they know. IMO, this world would be a much better place, without the existance of drunken favoritism, however it seems that it is far to much to ask for the presence of equal and fair treatment for everyone. Ok. So I decided to give this slum ANOTHER chance, and my friend got her purse stolen, not to mention we waited for 2 hours after we signed up for Karaoke and didn't even get to sing!!!! MEEEERRRAHHHH!!!!!!!! This unfortunate establishment's staff consists of lowlife degenerates who get off to jerking around there customers and just being rude overall. I would suggest BEAR-E-OKE at THE CUFF over this Snake Pit ANYDAY! FORGET THE CRESCENT!!!! The Elite, and RPlace are much more enjoyable places to go and hang out with friends, with cheap drinks, ROOM TO MOVE/BREATHE, and gives you the ability to hear yourself think with out a crappy sound system like the crescent, and is right across the street!! When I first came to this bar is scared the hell out of me. Who were all these excentric and crazy people? Then I came back because I was intrigued and got to know them, amazing, warm hearted, soulful, party crowd that loves its karoake. I slowly started singing again and again, then became addicted. The rush it gives you and self-confidence to get up in front of people like that is very excilerating. I had no experience in bartending and the manager came and asked me to come be trained by him. I did, and now I am the manager myself with an awesome staff and bar under my wing. Ummmm, just a word of warning, 1413 E. Olive Way is a Old Folks Home, not the Crescent Lounge... This bar is not anywhere near E Olive and 15th, but that's cool. Had a couple friends in town and we had a nice stroll through Cap Hill on the way down to Crescent. Then we found out it wasn't a japanese karaoke bar, but a creepy old man gay bar. They were blasting Fleetwook Mac super loud and we didn't want to interrupt them so I could sing the "Shake Shake Senora" song from the Beetlejuice soundtrack. I went there for my second time tonight (August 8th) is was amazing! I am in town visiting, and it was by far the best experience ever. I was there after 10pm and the bartender was so friendly and helpful. She was amazing. She also had a beautiful voice. I definitely had a great time. And it was all because of the lovely bartender! The cresent is the ultimate dive bar - not themed to be a dive bar but a real dive bar. The cool thing about The Cresent is that unlike most dive bars, The Crescent does not have raunchy patrons. Good people go to The Cresant and they have excellent staff and a great selection of karaokee. Love this place! read more
