They really thought of everything for the Petey Pablo event!!

Stage is a HUGE improvement over Volume! The updated sound/lighting and the awesome viewpoints from the VIP booths make Stage my favorite club venue to see a live performance. The bartenders could be more efficient, but the women's bathroom is usually clean (and I haven't seen any ridiculous lines yet). The photo booth is in a high-traffic area, which doesn't make sense to me - it's really frustrating when drunk people walk through your group photo... over and over again. After attending the Petey Pablo show and the Tinashe after party at Stage, I think booths are worth every penny on special guest nights. In addition to the spacious booth areas and excellent/attentive service, you also get to be front-and-center for the performances. I've been pretty happy about their special guests recently, and will definitely be back for the next good one. Fingers crossed for Ashanti and/or Ja Rule! For regular nights, the free guest list is your best bet; the security team seems pretty good at keeping the lines moving.

STAGE is one of the newer nightclubs in Seattle, which is located in Pioneer Square (It was formally The Catwalk & Volume for all you old school club heads!). I don't go out as much nowadays but recently attended to see Petey Pablo perform. It was such a fun show! STAGE has the perfect setup where there are several booths facing the stage. I highly recommend reserving a booth just so you can get comfy with your friends, watch the show and dance around. I also like how PP moved around the area during his performance too. The icing on the cake was that white tees were provided in the booths to spin over your head for his song "Raise Up". Also, if you hate paying cover, sign up for the guest list and get in before 11 pm. I had no issues getting through the line that night. It was a smooth process if anything. I'll definitely be back for another show, just not for a regular club night. :)

Photobooth at Stage. Grand opening night!

I was excited that there was going to be a new club opening in Seattle because well...everywhere else gets old after a while. I wasn't too fond of the location being in sketchy Pioneer Square, but that's nobody's fault. I went to their grand opening last Saturday and props for doing a great job to be able to promote this many heads coming out, there was already a long line as soon as doors were open. It was somewhat complicated because there were a bunch of different lines and a good amount of people in each; there was the VIP line, guest list line, & general admission line. We were on the guest list, but thought there was no way we were going to get in before the cut off time for free cover so we just went to general admission line to pay instead. We were one of the first in that line, but it still took a minute to get in. I'm not exactly sure how the system works, who gets first priority in, but it was rather confusing because all 3 lines just kind of blend in one big clump. My conclusion of why nothing was moving was that the club photographer is running late and they needed a picture for their website to make it seem like there's a hype. Hahaha. The old venue that was here before Stage took over was Volume, I was curious at how much of an upgrade was done to this place because I'm not the biggest fan of Volume. There's little improvements done here and there, the demographic is definitely a bit more civilized, but in my opinion the only major change was that the name of the venue changed. I had a decent night, will look forward to what this new place offers in the future.

I never really do coat check because I'm paranoid about not having my things on me, but the one here is easy and reliable. The only real issue was the photo booth which only worked for the first half hour or so. I'm assuming it ran out of film or something because at some point, it just kept taking people's money without taking any photos, which was brought up to the staff. This isn't necessarily on Showbox since the photo booth is provided by a vendor, but I would've appreciated an "out of order" sign. If this happens to you, you can visit the vendor's website and call for a refund!

The venue is stunning -- full of majestic arches, ornate architectural details, elegant balconies, and a grand old-theater atmosphere that immediately makes the evening feel special. Even before the performance starts, you already feel like you're having a real night out rather than just attending a show. The massive multi-tiered seating area is very impressive, yet the acoustics still felt excellent and immersive throughout the performance. One thing we especially enjoyed was spending time outside beforehand looking through the illuminated displays and posters for upcoming productions. It really builds anticipation and adds to the magical atmosphere of the evening. Whether you are seeing Phantom of the Opera or another performance, the Paramount feels like one of those classic theaters that turns an event into a memorable experience.

The touring production of The Phantom of the Opera at Paramount Theatre was absolutely fantastic…read more The cast was incredible, and the production itself deserved a much better audience environment than what the theater allowed. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst theater etiquette experiences I've ever had. During the first act, a man seated behind us repeatedly sang along during the performance. When I politely asked him to stop, the person next to him sarcastically pointed at the stage and said, "The show is over there," while the behavior continued. Around us, multiple people talked throughout songs and scenes, and later in the evening I even saw someone openly filming the show on an iPhone. I eventually had to leave my seats (Main Floor 2, Row G) and speak to management because the disruptions were so bad I couldn't focus on the performance. The only solution offered was seats in the very back of the orchestra. By that point, the experience was already frustrating enough that it took a while to calm down and enjoy the show again. What's most disappointing is that this is the SECOND time I've experienced terrible audience behavior at this theater. I previously saw Back to the Future here and dealt with nonstop talking during that performance too. I attend theater regularly in Southern California at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and also frequently see shows in New York City. Ushers there actively monitor audience behavior and quickly shut down disruptions. At the Paramount, it felt completely unmanaged. For the prices being charged -- around $350 for my tickets through Ticketmaster -- audience members should not have to deal with talking, singing, and filming throughout a Broadway performance. Amazing production. Extremely disappointing theater management and audience control.

Originally opened in 1934, the Blue Moon carries the kind of atmosphere you cannot recreate -- walls covered in decades of music, art, stickers, photographs, and stories. A dimly lit room packed with musicians, writers, artists, and people who genuinely appreciate creativity in its raw form. Throughout the night, the stage moved between live music, poetry, and performances from local artists while the crowd filled the tavern from the bar to the stage floor. Places like this remind me why independent art still matters. As an author traveling all over the United States -- and as someone who lived in the Seattle area for 2 1/2 years -- standing on that stage reading poetry from Purple Rose in a venue with this much history behind it was really something special. What I loved most was how welcoming the environment was. This is a very LGBTQ-friendly, art-friendly space where people genuinely support one another. If you are brand new to open mics or nervous about sharing your work for the first time, this is the kind of place where you will absolutely be shown kindness and encouragement. There were so many talented musicians, poets, and performers there, and you could really feel the appreciation for creativity throughout the room. The setup of the tavern itself is awesome. The stage and seating area wrap around the bar in almost a U-shape, so you can really choose your own vibe for the night. If you want to stay close to the performances and music, there is a dance floor and table area near the stage. If you want something more relaxed, you can hang back near the bar, have a drink, and still enjoy the atmosphere without being directly in the middle of everything. They also have a full bar, arcade games, board games, books to read, and even a small library on the shelves throughout the tavern. Somewhere inside, you may even find a signed copy of Purple Rose that I left hidden and dedicated to the historic Blue Moon itself. Beautiful evening with wonderful people. I, my wife, and her friend stopped by for New Year's Drinks around 6, and about 6:30 or so, made the mistake of asking Tim Duvall, the clearly drunken before 7:00 PM owner of the establishment, whether outside food can be brought into the bar. This led to his regaling us with an extended and utterly unsolicited history of the bar. He then invited himself to sit with us, halfway into the seat before slurring a "Can I sit down?" to insert himself into our booth. We then moved to another unsolicited conversation, this time about politics. Now, to be clear - I have no doubt that I and a sober Tim Duvall probably agree on most of our politics. This did not stop him from berating me as I agreed with his point, loudly escalating and yelling as I tried to agree with him (again... to be clear, I DIDN'T disagree his political view) until he stood and began yelling that I was kicked out. As I stood to talk on him, he became VERY comfortable with putting his hands on me, grabbing my sweatshirt to move me. I was NOT about to challenge that as a Black man new to Seattle that doesn't know how the police would handle things. I need to be very specific about how quickly this man felt comfortable touching me, grabbing my sweater to "drag" me. This is the step that is WAY over the line. I would genuinely like to recommend this place, as I'm looking for bars that offer sugar cane soda. Drunken ownership- in the early evening in New Year's - that feels comfortable being handsy with Black folk is far too much. AVOID at all costs.
