I don't even want to write this review. In fact, I want to give it a 1 star just so people won't go here anymore and keep this place all to myself. I had the best Sunday I've had in a very long time. The drinks are good and stiff. Ray, the bartender, knows zactly what she's doing. The "family", I'll say, are amazing individuals and I was honored to have met them. I had such a great time. You can find every type of person imaginable dancing, singing, having a great time, and wanting you to have a great time too! This place has really gone downhill over the years. I used to love this bar for the simple fact that it managed to draw decent singing talents from all around Seattle. Now the karaoke is just awful. The only people who's songs are called are the guys who are willing to tip three or four bucks a song...and being that those people are perpetually drunk, the quality of music coming from this joint has definitely plunged down the shitter. Kinda like the quality of their disgusting bathrooms...Speaking of drunk, the last straw for me was last weekend, when the bartender cut me off after ONE beer. His reasoning? Because I looked drunk. I asked him what made me look drunk and he told me because I was turning red......Really??? Ever heard of Asian fucking flush?? You could put a cocktail in front of me and the fumes alone would make me turn red, doesn't mean I'm drunk !! We ended up leaving right after, and for the first time I did not tip them. I haven't been here in several months. Back in the day this was "the" divey gay bar. Now it is not. The weekends are very straight. I don't have a problem with that, but I went there and this bartender insisted that I pay for my drink since it was the end of his shift. I couldn't start a tab, but that was fine. I Love this place!! The laid-back, kick up your feet vibe is just what the Hill needs. Sometimes I think the Hill has become taken over by ostentatious over-priced businesses, but this place reminds that you can come here and be whoever you are. The crowd is mostly welcoming and accepting. I love that there are Karaoke screens everywhere so that you can sing along with the singer. That is much better than getting booed at Bush Gardens. My fiancé and I came in here during their happy hour while waiting for a restaurant to open and it was very cute, divey with all sorts of cool decorations. Paula took care of us and even recommended some good restaurants to try after telling her that we are new in town. The patrons in there were really friendly and funny. Since we started drinking early on, we didn't get a chance to stay for karaoke, but it seems like fun! read more

The Crescent is fun. The atmosphere is friendly and interesting. I love the ambiance and 'dive-iness' of the place. I would definitely hang out here again just to people watch and have some good drinks. My only complaint is the karaoke selection - it isn't that great unless you are a huge fan of country music. Their karaoke books lacked classics like Journey, Rush, and other popular groups, but had pages and pages of Tim Mcgraw. I got completely soused here last night (a Sunday night, no less). My friend says I was making out with some random dude at the bar. Also hosted an after hours party with 3 other guys coming back across the street to my place. One guy apparently crashed into my hallway closet door knocking it off it's hinges. The Crescent is great for participatory karaoke. You may hold the microphone but it won't matter, because if you picked the right song, everyone in the place will be singing with you. I've only been there when it's been really packed, but the company is friendly. Stick with your normal drink -- the specials can leave much to be desired. read more

The only downfall was the small space, wish there was more space in front of the stage but deff will be going there again! I spent one of the most memorable karaoke nights of my life at the Crescent Lounge. That's saying a lot since I spent several years as a backup dancer for a touring karaoke lounge act. The bartenders have the right balance of absent-minded neglect and doting, over-serving affection. However,I think they should move the bathroom somewhere else, because when someone stinks it the bathroom and you can smell it "on stage," it makes for some fascinating interpretive songs. read more

we went here for a bday, with a pretty large group of people. bless its heart, this bar is not ideal for a big group of people. it was crowded, and the bar seemed a little understaffed. we ended up taking up space at the end very furthest/out of lineofsight of the karaoke stage. not having the stage be a focal point of a KARAOKE bar just seems like sacrilege, but im partial to the wonderful karaoke of my home turf, greenwood. so yes, we went as a big group on a saturday. the bday girl heard a rumor that if it was your birthday, you could sing more often than other people. she was told by the dj she had heard wrong, so even the bday girl only sang once, and the queue took quite a while. also, the rumors of strong cheap drinks did not apply to me (though it may be like R place and other hill gay bars where being a cute gay boy gets you amazing drink specials). the drinks were priced fine, $20 for two tequila shots and an AMF (though not cheap by capitol hill standards, in my experience) but after those drinks on an empty stomach and a very low alcohol tolerance, i only felt the slightest of buzzes. it seems like it would be a fun bar to stop off at, especially on a pub crawl. they did have lyric monitors all over and cozy booths in the back. but if you want a truly magical karaoke experience, i really cant recommend anywhere but greenwood bars (yen wor, rickshaw, etc) read more

My friends love it, and go all the time, but if you dont sing dont go. I hate singing and there is nowhere to go to be able to do anything but. I want to give it a much lower rating just because of my personal dislike but if you like dive karaoke bars, this is a great one (5 star), with friendly bartenders and a fun crowd. There are some places that one can only feel comfortable going to in a suit and tie. There are some places that one can only feel comfortable going to in jeans and a tee shirt. And then there are some places that one can only feel comfortable going to if one is nearly blind drunk before arriving regardless of attire. The Crescent Lounge, God bless it, is one of those places. Below are two mini-descriptions of nights at The Crescent that paint a good picture of why it's my favorite gay dive bar in Seattle: 1. The Costume Night Once upon a time I worked in fashion. I was a model booker also known as an agent, a pimp for pretty, or everyone's bitch. In that magical time my friends and I that worked in the biz would go out and drink pretty much every night. One Sunday night my friend and colleague Ryan and I started drinking at brunch and continued throughout the day. At one point we started wearing our sunglasses inside, at another I put on a visor that said "Willy" and he donned a big puffy jacket with a fur lined hood. By the time if was dark and stormy we were trudging up the hill, me in my "Willy" visor, Jackie O. sunglasses and ascot, he in his aviator shades, furry puffy coat and silk scarf. When we arrived at The Crescent Lounge we were well pickled but needed a few more nightcaps. Immediately upon entering we were welcomed with open arms by the friendly regulars and hipster hangers on. We felt like the belles of the ball. And that's reason one why I like The Crescent Lounge, you can show up in a costume and everyone wants to know your name. 2. The Beef Jerky Night My friend, let's call her Karl, and I had spent a lovely few hours getting bombed on Lavender Martinis during Chapel's generous happy hour. At the time neither of us made much money so after 8 PM when the price doubled we had to make a quick exit less our bank accounts draw over. What are two gad about towns to do when sauced and on a budget? Head to The Crescent Lounge and drink $2 Miller Hi-Lifes of course. Now we had skipped dinner and after the third round of beers Karl was hungry. No food is served at the Crescent and quite honestly I would be scared to consume anything there not from a bottle, but a girl's got to eat. Solution? She sidled up to someone eating beef jerky and asked for a piece. At any other bar Karl would have just munched on the dry cow, but as luck would have it next to us was a young man with no shirt dancing for another man seated at the bar. The dancing man was clearly otherworldly or at least in another world and the man at the bar was having it. Karl was not, she though the dancing man was in danger and tried to bring him back to our world by throwing bits of beef jerky at him. When she realized she had thrown her supply away to no avail she was still hungry. Too bad for Karl, right? Wrong, she marched over to the man who had given her the first handful and asked for another. Only at the Crescent folks can you ask for beef jerky, throw it a drunk, dancing queen, and then get some more and not get bounced. For those reasons and the fact that even if you are of middling looks like myself you can feel like the prettiest girl at the prom compared to most of the trolls at The Crescent Lounge, I give it 5 - Stars. Oh, and as the stained glass window says it's "Air Conditioned." Just don't go there when you are sober, ever, please, it's not safe for you or the regulars. read more
