An oasis of the "old Seattle" in today's overpriced, sanitized, gentrified Capitol Hill. If you're looking for upscale gastropubs and $14 cupcakes, The Crescent is not for you. But if you want a fun, festive and down-to-earth hole in the wall where you can relax, knock back a couple cheap well drinks and sing your heart out, The Crescent is the spot. And if you're not in the mood for the crowds and long queues of the karaoke nights, going on a weekday evening has its own charm. The community of bargoers here is very inviting and inclusive. LOVED this place! Came through on a business trip and if I lived in Seattle, I'd visit here all the time. First, for a dive bar, it's surprisingly open and airy - no stale smoke and sweat sort of vibe here. Second, the woman running the karaoke line was one of the best DJs I've seen - got everyone in rotation fairly, none of that "tip to get your song in" dance that a lot of folks play these days in big cities. The crowd was supportive, singers were pretty good for a karaoke crew, and the drinks weren't bad. Please note that the KJ can be bribed. We were there during Pride weekend and I saw at least 100 slips of paper on her table so I'm glad someone in the group was smart enough to do it. The song selection was mediocre so Tintin didn't actually sing like he promised but it was fun nonetheless. The place is small and kind of strangely laid but I liked the orderliness of getting your drink at the cash register. I'm guessing they are heavy with the pours because the girl that was in front of me when I ordered was totally sober but half an hour later, was slurring and swerving into me while trying to get more cash from the ATM. Oh Crescent Lounge, why is it that every time I am involved with you I end up getting completely trashed swaying singing along with the karaoke, even though I don't like karaoke, or singing in public? It must be the tempting beverage specials you have. And the friendly bartenders, and all the other trashed swaying singing mofo's around me that just suck me into the vortex of that we call the Crescent Lounge. A group of friends and I decided to have a Friday night on the town and someone in the group choose the Crescent. Lissa M and I drove by on our way to find parking - I think my exact words were, "What the F. Where are you taking me?" We finally found parking (miles and miles and MILES away) after over 20 minutes of searching we gave up and were willing to pay for the honor of parking on Capital Hill. We walked in the lounge and it was packed. To some people - this is probably great. To me, it is roughly my worst nightmare. Some people in our group already had a table. Actually, calling it a table is a bit of a stretch - it was probably 2' diameter - but it was something. Tables and stools are pushed together and you pretty much have to sit in someones' lap to get by. There were some good singers, and the other patrons were very entertaining, kind, and fun. But for my money, I'd rather go somewhere with good food, a bit more quiet (so you can hear your friends), and a LOT less crowded. read more

I admit now that my beloved C.C. Attle's has closed (but will hopefully reopen soon) I am on a serious search for a new gay bar. I can definitively say this is not it! I said to my husband as we walked in the door "Well the bar tender's cute" "Too bad no one else is" he responded. This did not bode well. I would call this a bar with gay people in it as opposed to an actual gay bar. A toothless queen or two grace the stools, the aforementioned hot bar tender serves up drinks but those are about the only markers that this may be a gay bar. The lights are so bright it would be nearly impossible to find Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now without everyone on the Hill knowing your business. Most of the clientele seemed drawn from Seattle U. and other nearby colleges. I would say that straight women outnumbered gay men here by a substantial margin. As people shrieked Karaoke (not show tunes or 80's new wave mind you) I felt myself die a little inside. read more

The Crescent Lounge is the coolest, divey chic bar in Seattle. They have karaoke 7 nights a week, staff is awesome, and drinks are fab. They care about their clientele and make sure that the crowd is always happy, having fun, and feels accepted. It's like Seattle's version of Cheers on steroids. You walk in and everyone is smiling and having a good time- it makes you happy to be there. And when the karaoke starts- watch out! Not only are the singers pretty damn good, the whole bar sings along- it's epic. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place on Capitol Hill that you won't regret going to for a super fun time. This Karaoke Bar is a diamond in the rough. You have to look past the dark, the dinge, the fact that there is no drink menu (FYI, Tall Boys and Well Drinks are $5/piece), the grime covering the karaoke binders in order to see the community. A group of us stopped by here last Saturday around 9PM and we stayed until around 1AM. They don't serve food here, which is totally fine. (I don't know if I would trust the cleanliness of the kitchens.) And they let you bring in outside food. Recommendation: Amante's Pizza up the hill. The bathroom is gross, but I've been in far worse, and sometimes the DJ Sexxxxual Chocolate sings from his station - or even makes solo songs into duets. The bar sings along and cheers everyone on, like one huge crowd of friends. When it comes down to it: The bartenders, the bouncer (who is also a bartender) are all nice enough, the drinks are really affordable for the area, and the music selection is killer. Be forewarned though, parking is a freaking nightmare in this area. read more

Some girls just wanna have fun, but other girls just wanna sing "Like a Prayer" to a bunch of Pride Weekend enthusiasts, while spilling cheap whiskey-gingers on our sparkly rainbow clothes. For those kind of girls, there's a place called The Crescent. If I had my way, every night would be like a Saturday at the Crescent. Ok, maybe with better drinks and more room to dance, but overall this place is a blast. These are real people who know how to let loose, boogie down, shake a tail feather and let the rhythm move them. If you're into the same, you'll find yourself right at home here. There have been no other karaoke crowds that I can rile up more than the one at The Crescent. This is simply the best place to get your pretend rockstar with the cracking loud voice on. Go ahead and drink down those shots if it gets you up to sing. The Crescent is about the size of a shoe box and has a great mix of people. From young, to middle age, to older than dirt the patrons run the age spectrum. The bartenders are fun and always go up to sing a song. The bathrooms are a little iffy but if you gotta go, you gotta go. The Crescent is beyond cool. Plain and simple. read more

Ended up here on suggestion from the lovely man working at the Moore. When you first walk in you can tell its a bit of a dive bar, but in an awesome way. We arrived early, probably around 8:30 or 9:00 and the place was still slow. So we got our names in to sing right away. The crowd starts to pick up around 10:30-11 and its a mix of locals and tourists. Bold statement alert: This is the friendliest bar. For serious. The staff were chatty and got up to sing and all the other patrons were clapping and singing along with us. Crescent's awesome. Karaoke every night and a diverse crowd. Seems like the gay bars in Seattle all have good karaoke, although monkey pub and twilight still take the prize for me. It's always packed when I go there, regardless of the day of the week. I'd hate to try to go on a Friday/Saturday. As it is, you gotta get there early if you want a table or even a chair. Somehow I always see people I know here, maybe it's just my kind of crowd. It is really a dive. Why are all the good karaoke bars gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that, just a question. I checked this place out on a Thursday night and had a really good time. The beer was cheap and the singing ranged from good to so-bad-it's-good. I put my name in and only had to wait about an hour to go up. The song selection was enormous and there were several books in various locations of the place. There was a nice sized crowd (i.e, not too many people) but that could be because it was a Thursday and not a Friday or Saturday. The bartenders are cool and one was even nice enough to call me a cab. Lost a star because the place is kind of small and dive-y, and the set up of the tables vs. the bar vs. the stage seemed a bit counterintuitive. read more

Karaoke there was a blast! Granted, this place is a dive, but it's a dive with character! Last night was my first time here, and I would definitely have no qualms about a return trip. There was a guy there going by the name "Giggles" who was extremely entertaining with his version of "Tipsy". The characters that came out of the woodwork for this place was phenomenally amusing. I especially loved the fact that Scott K broke his Karaoke Cherry while we were there belatedly celebrating my birthday. Lindi and I hit it up with our own rendition of the Spice Girls "Wanna Be" and I belted out "I want to come over" by Melissa Ethridge that seemed to be a hit with the crowd. Let's just say this place is now memorable for me and as long as you don't have any scruples about the places you "hang", it's a great night out. read more

I came here last night to do karaoke in honor of Freddie Mercury's birthday and had a very nice experience. A regular saw me having nerves outside the bar and stopped to talk to me and encourage me to feel at home; inside the bar, the atmosphere was laidback and friendly, with the bar staff being as helpful as they could in the loud karaoke environment. The karaoke host had the same idea I did about appropriate songs for the night and also made sure to remind everyone to clap for every performer. On a more serious note, although my outfit made it fairly clear I was transgender, I was not misgendered at all. This bar is a little out of the way for me, but I have every intention of going back. read more

This place is great. Its an open karaoke bar. Definitely come here if you have a free weekend night. It's just a really fun atmosphere to be in. This has always been one of my all time fav dive bars. Bad singing, awful layout, and they used to sell sparks?! What more could someone ask for. Really let's just consider how busy every establishment is on the hill now-a-days and appreciate that often you can find this place busy but bearable. It's a tiny establishment so in all honesty you can't fit that many folks to begin with. But it's got a great mix of old school neighborhood regulars as well as the new kids on the block. This place was never trying to be hipster divey, it just was... from the beginning. There is regular karaoke and always an entertaining crowd. I will have to revisit it soon to get a better perspective on how things are going in this newer shift of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Long time winner in my book. @Matt E's support of this review made me revisit it as this was one of my early reviews and maybe not as elaborate as my current writing. I LOVE THE CRESCENT! If I could go here every night, I would. Well, I guess I COULD go here every night, but that would make me really tired, and probably an alcoholic. So I don't. This is a bar where you can take almost anyone and have a good time. In fact, last time my mom was in town, I considered taking her here. She would like it. I love doing karaoke, cause people are into it and cheer for me. Also, there is this one woman who sings "Give Me One Reason" and inserts every swear word known to man. Forget the Space Needle. Pike Place Market? Who needs it. This was my first time visiting Seattle and really... I friggin loved The Crescent Lounge. The drinks were great (and decently priced), the people were fabulous and everyone who sang kareoke was so much fun (myself included, I hope)! We got here around 9:30ish and found some seats in the upper level, which, as it turns out, was the best place to be. We had a great view of the stage and were far enough from the bar, so we didn't feel claustrophobic. The emcee had a great voice and she was really nice when some guy allegedly took my paper slip from her table and claimed that he was taking me home because I had too much to drink and that I wouldn't be singing... um... crazy. Anyway, needless to say, she let me sing. I hope everyone enjoyed that Paramore tune! If not, who cares - I had a blast! I hope to be back soon to serenade the lovely Capitol Hill folk. read more

This place was PACKED. It was a saturday night when I went and it was shoulder to shoulder. Not bad or anything but just worth saying. It's not a really nice place, it seems like if you turned the lights on, everything would be made out of plywood. (Just sayin') BUT-it is fun. Nice people, KARAOKE. Amazing bar here on Capitol Hill. It always feels welcoming, lively, and just awesome. Unlike a bunch of bars around the area, you can really just let loose and have fun here without anyone judging you. Ah this lounge. Went here for my first time last Saturday with my best friends. We originally had plans to go to Rockbox as we needed to karaoke, but they were booked so I looked around and voila! The crescent lounge appeared and my god it was a blast! It's an intimate space, but that's all great as they leave the door open to allow a nice air flow. The drinks are strong and well priced. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. Best bar I've been to in the city. No douches thank Buddha and everyone (clientele included) was awesome and having a blast. The karaoke set up is awesome as it's got a stage and SO MANY CHOICES FOR SONGS, be warned it gets busy and you could have to wait a while to perform, so write a few songs down on your ticket if you really wanna stunt on some fools with your mad karaoke flow. Definitely coming back, specifically for my birthday, cause I'm a creature of habit once I find something I really enjoy. Keep being awesome staff! read more

This place would've gotten three stars if not for the heinous karaoke I was subjected to. It was horrible. And I kind of loved it. This bar is straight grimey, but the crowd gives it heart. I asked the bar tender for something girly and he knew what was up. The drink was cheap for the amount of vodka, which I can definitely appreciate, and the entertainment was....heartening. If you're into dives, give it a go. It's kind of gross in an oddly charming manner and centrally located so that when you're trashed and craving something sweet you can head to Pie bar and get your mixed berry on without missing more than a couple of minutes of karaoke. read more

The Crescent is a tiny Capitol Hill fixture in the midst of a careful transition from a dive bar for weathered old gay men to a hipster karaoke joint. The clientele reflects the fact that the transition is far from complete. Karaoke is hosted nightly at 9pm. There are dirty old men crooning Sinatra and squealing girls doing Spice Girls en masse and the karaoke jock makes sure each performer is duly appreciated. The drinks are cheap as hell and there's never anywhere to sit but you should probably be up front dancing anyhow. In short, this place is a classic. read more

SUPER. DUPER. FUN. Typcially, I avoid karaoke bars like the plague but somehow this place manages to pull it off. And well. Been to the Crescent twice now and both times were a complete blast. ( Like, what the hell happened last night and who are all these phone numbers and texts from kind of blast.) First time I wandered in by myself after a few guys outside convinced me it was way more fun than the place I was headed. They were right. Second time was out for drinks on a Sunday with a friend ( who also avoids karaoke like the plague and even HE liked it). The place was jammed on a Sunday! Stiff-ass drinks, really friendly crowd. Like, you can randomly just start chatting people up kind of friendly. Divey but not too. I guess this is billed as a gay bar but I get more of a metro mixed crowd vibe. All ages and types. For a good time, go to The Crescent. Just make sure your hangover remedy is at the ready for the morning. You might be staying longer than you think. read more

Hands down the friendliest bar I went to in Seattle! I have never been brave enough to do karaoke, but I love watching others do it! This place is a dive, the drinks are strong and the bartender was so nice. We got in a little late so none of my friends were able to get a song in, but just hanging out there was good enough for us! What a fun time. Most memorable song of the night? Someone singing Pony by Ginuwine. Amazing. I don't need the mic to sing along, I made everyone suffer with my out of tune voice. Bathrooms were a little sketch, but I won't knock them for that. I've never been in a dive bar where the bathrooms were particularly impressive. Would I go back? "Crescent Louuuunnnge! Put your hands together for [YOUR NAME HERE]" Absolutely, hands-down my favorite bar in the world (a little biased since I live 2 blocks away). The bartenders and karaoke hosts are absolutely wonderful, the crowd is always warmly supportive no matter how much you're butchering a song. The atmosphere here is absolutely perfect for those joyfully drunken nights, if this is the type of thing you're in to. It's a dingy dive, but it's got moxie and a certain "je ne sais quoi" about it. Not the most expensive, but also not the cheapest. The vibe at the bar is eclectic, but full of a garden variety "Woo Girl" that seems to be invading the area. Karaoke to your hearts content, but what has its roots as a goofy and raucous event was dominated by Taylor Swift and Mumford and Sons (played at least 6 times in a single hour). Take your friends, try it out and see if the melange of folks here is your crowd or not. read more

I kinda wish the Crescent didn't exist so I wouldn't occasionally embarrass the crap out of myself whilst at the time thinking I'm the coolest person in the world. My singing voice totally goes to shit when I have even one drink. STOP, LAUREN, STOP! Oh wait, it's okay because everyone else is drunk and sucks at it too. EPIC stop #4 on our E Olive Way crawl. First of all, if you are here early enough on the weekend you can be treated to some very amazing singers. I've walked and driven by this place and had no idea how amazing it was. I was a bit afraid to sing, considering that I'm in no way musically gifted, but I went for it and had a blast. Love shack, baby. The crowd there is so awesome and the karaoke hosts make you feel like a rockstar. The best part is that the owner/manager/bartender/whoever gave our entire group free shots just for coming in.
