This place is fun. This was my first karaoke experience and it was great, not perfect but good. First and foremost, this place is and always will be a DIVE. Do not come here if you are looking for private karaoke or a more upscale bar environment. THE GOOD: Bartenders were very friendly and efficient Drinks were reasonably priced They have a huge selection of karaoke songs to choose from The vibe inside is great THE BAD: It gets really busy really quick, which I guess is only a bad thing for me and not the owners Takes a while for your song to come up when you sing karaoke because everyone wants to sing, which is great, but also bad Sensual Chocolate the DJ/MC had a poor attitude At the end of the day this dive bar is a fun time if you love karaoke, but get there early or you will be waiting a couple hours for your song to come up. read more

I hate karaoke. I despise it. I always avoid karaoke bars and every time I'm invited out, if I hear the word karaoke, I run. Well, last night I discovered something new about myself: 2 Bloody Marys (at Grim's) = Drunk Laura! Add 1 Tequila Sunrise (at Crescent) = I LOVE KARAOKE! Lol. I sang, probably out of tune, "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears. Not my finest moment, but I had a blast! I was drunk enough not to give a crap and had my friend there to sing with and cheer me on. Once I bothered looking at the crowd I realized everyone was singing along, and dancing, which just made it even more fun. The bartenders? Kick ass! The drinks? CHEAP and AMAZING! The bartenders are super cute ladies that are fun, patient, and masters of mixology. The crescent lounge is amazing. Most the time I'm too shy or not drunk enough to sing but when I do it's a blast and everyone is really nice to me. Their drinks are fairly priced and they have good specials on pitchers. The crowd there is always super fun too. It may not be the cleanest place ever but every once in awhile you just need to be cheered on by fellow drunks as you sing some TLC. I love you crescent lounge. I recently spent a week in Seattle staying with a friend who lives across the street from this place. We only made it out here two nights but they were two of the best nights I had in town. Yes it's seedy, dirty and loud but that is what it's supposed to be! You can put your request in and never make it up to sing but I learned that if you buy a drink for the karaoke girl you'll move up the list rather quickly! A handful of bad singers, a handful of great singers, a handful of times you couldn't hear the ones on stage because the entire bar was singing too loudly. The guy I went with went home early both nights and I still had a blast with the regulars who were all super nice and took me under their wings. If you're in Capitol Hill and looking for some fun go here. My only complaint.... they kicked us out at like 1:45pm. What is with this town and things closing so early?! Wanted to do something for Thanksgiving since my bf and I are 'orphans' here in this state (and me in this country). I was actually very tired cause of the food I ate but I wanted to have a drink and refused to let my age catch up on me so I forced myself awake and we went in here. So glad we did! The people that work here are amazing. Friendly, fast and just plain awesome. The karaoke books are so fat ... yeah I'm not good at making fat jokes or any kind of jokes, the books are just fat. So much to choose from, I just gave up and started singing along with the songs at the bar. Everybody that goes there is friendly and respectful. If you want to be left alone, you'll be left alone. I went with a group of friends. First thing I noticed was that there wasn't much space and it was tricky to get a place to sit together. Alcohol was quite expensive, but what do you expect in a bar in Capitol Hill? 10 dollars for 2 Corona's and 4 dollars for a not even 24 oz of Rainier means that I won't be frequenting this place. The bartender checked in on us quite a bit. He seemed annoyed with my somber facial expression. But, what can I say, the majority of the karaoke was not entertaining. There were definitely highlights, but most of the time people seemed half-asleep when they got up there. Seems to have a reputation as a gay bar, but you won't feel out-of-place as a straight dude. Is it my karaoke addiction, or the $4 pitchers of Pabst during happy hour ($5 otherwise) that keeps me coming back? Another factor could be sheer proximity, as it is only a block from where I live. Regardless, I'm a regular and a huge fan, and even though I cheerfully acknowledge that all the snarky comments may have a kernel of truth (okay, which part of "dive" isn't clear here?) , I still always manage to cheer myself up whenever I go. The place can be surprisingly jumpin' after 10 pm most any night, but if you want to avoid the crowds (and thus increase your chances of singing more than once) avoid Fridays and Saturdays, as they get more packed each minute closer to midnight. Of course, each night has a different karaoke host, and they each have their cult following. Not to be missed for the sheer camp factor is Sunday Funday with Miss Julia the Poon. Gotta love her. Her show starts at 4 PM and runs till 9 PM. read more

It's an old time dive bar. Pours are weak unless the bartender likes you, and they aren't a bargain. But it has its moments. I've had some good times there. But this really bugs me, and this is just one example, but I'll use it since it was recent. This ahole comes in on weekends for karaoke starting at 4 with his huge dog. I don't mind dogs in bars, but their owners need to be courteous and thoughtful. This guy lets his big dog lay on the floor completely blocking access to the restrooms or to get out the front door. I watched it recently, the dog spread out on the floor, the owner thinking he's so f'ing cool. Some old dude was trying to get to the restroom and the guy tripped and stepped on the dog's tail, and of course the dog growled and snapped at him. I don't blame the dog; I blame the idiot owner, some old queen who thinks he has a great voice but doesn't and uses his dog to pick up guys, which of course doesn't really work for him. The bar needs to crack down on these aholes. read more

Cool bartenders and a great karaoke spot. The karaoke emcee, named Sexual Chocolate, was self absorbed and literally only plays your song if you tip him largely. He tries to tell you he had a lot of out of towners requesting songs all night but we watched him for over an hour and he played his friends 3 out of 4 songs. I will never go back ever again. The only thing that saved the place were the awesome people that we met outside. Here's the story: My friend Chris and I met up in Seattle on Halloween weekend. We were looking for some fun gay bars to hit up in our cute little Deviles Eggs costumes. We walked into this place, waited forever for a drink, then decided to go elsewhere. The vibe just wasnt quite right. Fast forward about 4 hours, it's 1:30 and the people we met at another bar decided to go to the crescent for last call. The MC for the night was this short woman (or was she a drag queen? i'm not sure) who, from the second we got there, was yelling obsenities at the crowd that i can't even write here. I love the seattle gay scene and i was used to this brash sort of routine, but she was just mean, telling people they had to get out as quickly as possible and making us feel unwelcome.Just after we got our drinks, she announces that the bar must be empty by 2, and everyone responds with booing. Being the tallest person there, she targets ME (mind you, i'm the least violent person on the face of the planet) and runs up and rips my drink out of my hand. So i took it right back from her. Then she starts swinging, and when i take my drink and start chugging because she is too short to actually do anything, she shoves me into a bouncer who then THROWS me out (literally, like i fell down). I was pissed. Then she goes after my friend, hitting him and punching him and calling him aweful names. So he dumped his drink on her head. Not a nice thing to do i know, but she deserved it. then ALL HELL broke loose, and he was shoved INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC by this girls boyfriend who does not even work here. The management came outside and apologized to us over and over and offered to buy us drinks it we come back again, but i will NEVER. This bar is trashy, they employ rude disgusting little people, you have to wait forever for drinks. Just stay away. There are a bunch of way better bars in the area. Side note: as we were being kicked out all we kept yelling was "I CANT WAIT TO YELP ABOUT THIS!!!!" Anyway, there was a happy ending to this story. A bunch of locals that saw this go down and heard us saying that we were not from the area came outside to apologize for the lunatic chick that got us kicked out. They all love Seattle so much and didnt want us to get the wrong impression, so they took us to another bar (it was daylight savings night so some bars stayed open until 3)and we had a great time. I have never had an experience like I just had. This bar would have been sub par, barely ok. My friend and I entered the bathroom which was only one stall. Shortly after someone knocked on the door telling us it was one person at a time. When I exited a very rude woman who worked there yelled at me for using the restroom and informed me it was one person at a time. I apologized for not knowing that was the rule because it was not written anywhere. She then yelled at my friend, called her ugly and kicked us out of the bar. I have never experienced anything like this. I have never felt so angry and abused. If I could give negative stars I would. If I could advise everyone to walk in and abuse the staff I would. 100% trouble. I've had some of the craziest nights of my life at this bar. There was a time where we would go to this place every Friday night. Sometimes Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday too. It was a dark time for all of us, stop judging. Everyone would wake up the next day cursing the Crescent and insisting on never returning but when Friday would roll around we'd all find ourselves there singing along to someone performing Bell Biv Devoe. Oh! On one of these fateful nights, my friend got too trashed to get home on her own and no one trusted her to cab successfully so an employee [ex-owner??] drove her home. The only problem was that he didn't know where she lived. Every time he asked her for her address she responded, "1521 Eat My Ass". He finally ended up calling someone from her phone to get the real address. That was awesome. You know what else is awesome? They let you order Hot Mama's pizza and eat it in the bar. You know what isn't awesome? Their bathrooms 98% of the time. Just get drunk and then the bathrooms don't matter. We may not go to the Crescent as frequently as before, but this is the place that all of our out of town friends always want to be when they're here visiting. ALSO I guess the Laffhole dude[s] are starting a Comedy Open Mic night on Wednesdays, too! Which should be absolutely hilarious/insane and/or completely terrible/uncomfortable/awkward. Worst place for karaoke I've ever been to. The DJ is extremely rude, and acts as if he doesn't even want people signing up to sing. (And yes, I do tip the DJ and of course am very polite whenever I go singing, so that wasn't the reason). I reluctantly have to admit that this joint can be really good for a cheap beer or two and healthy laugh but c'mon guys... a spring cleaning now and then wouldn't kill anyone. The Crescent hosts no-holds-barred karaoke 7 nights a week. The DJs usually are great at keeping things light and entertaining despite the random shrills coming from the mic. Every now and again there will a nice surprise and someone will really get the joint hopping. This is a Capitol Hill institution, you should experience it at least once. Get boozed up and drag your pals in here for a nightcap of "Friends in Low Places" and trust me - everyone will join in! Tip: When you walk in the door you're hit with the bar serving station. The Crescent has changed a little over the years, but one thing remains the same. The regulars still sit at the same bar stool during the day drinking $3 pitchers of Busch. They serve $2 wells from Noon to 2. From 2 to 6:30 seven days a week and Monday through Thursdays 8:30 - 10:30 the $3 wells and $4 pitchers keep the customers in good spirits. With Karaoke every evening, it makes for a fun and interesting adventure. There is a large range of singing talent and a lot of hard core singers. The Crescent is pretty much all gay early in the day and a mixed crowd as the evening progresses. The best thing about the Crescent is that you will never feel inferior or have social awkwardness about anyone there as most of the people there are pretty tipsy. Don't get too messed up or your picture might end up on the "Customer of the Week Board". Avoid the filthy restroom. read more

They persisted, so even though I had avoided The Crescent for years, I gave it a whirl last night. Good news, busy bartenders still attended to drink requests quickly. I only got one song in for karaoke after being there for three hours. It literally took three hours to get on the mic, by then I was over it. Mediocre service all around. read more

This is a bad review. Arrived just after midnight on Saturday to sing karaoke. Waited over two hours and did not get to sing. The karaoke DJ was disorganized and multiple people sang twice before I was called upon. I was told repeatedly I was up "soon" or "next" but clearly he was playing favorites or locals or whatever. I complained to a bartender and he sympathized saying 4 people expressed similar complaints. If the manager/owner is reading this change your Saturday karaoke DJ. You just lost a customer. read more

sometimes it's the places that aren't trying to be cool that actually end up being the coolest. (that philosophy does NOT work with people.) so the crescent is totally bad. the layout is horrible; the central bar takes up about half the floorspace, there is no comfortable place to sit, let alone stand, and you have a clear shot of men at the urinal from outside the mensroom. the decor is lame, and everything is painted black. i hope the fire marshall never lays eyes on the crescent, the place is a death trap. Honestly, the best bar in Seattle. Not only does it have karaoke EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, but it has the best mix of freaks, geeks, dorks, jocks, hipsters, old, young and everything in between. I have more fun at this bar because for some reason it has that "it' factor. It's not pretty or very clean, but it has cheap drinks and it is always an experience/party at The Crescent.
