Just made it in here today when I remembered old Uncle Nick's still existed in its new form known as The Crispy Coop, and let me tell you, I'm quite pleased. I used to hit Uncle Nick's about once a week for lunch. Always the same order: dark dinner with double mac as the sides. Pretty sure the mac and cheese came from a frozen block. I like that frozen shit, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely cheap and kind of gross in a good way. The chicken was always on point, pressure fried, same as any other cheap chicken spot. The new Coop takes what Uncle Nick started and elevates it to a whole 'nother level. Chicken now comes in regular style, Tennessee mild and Nashville hot. I had the Tennessee mild because real Nashville hot chicken is hot AF and I didn't want to shit fire for the next three days. Also, Nashville hot chicken is usually straight deep fried, not pressure fried. I'll be honest, I doubt the Nashville hot is that hot, because when you order "mild" at a real hot chicken joint it's still pretty spicy (and no, Mild Chicken Takeover is not a real hot chicken joint, it's significantly cooled down for the bland, Midwest palate). The Tennesee Mild was flavorful but not at all spicy, and the flavor was super good. I would eat it again but will probably try the hot just to have my bases covered. The mac and cheese is where the Coop really changes things up. This mac uses a mornay base with cavatappi for the noodles and it is LEAGUES better than the old frozen block. You can tell it's real when you eat it, which is essentially the opposite of the old mac and cheese. Overall, the Coop is a much improved version of Uncle Nick's and I'll be back again soon. But I'll have to find a new place to get my shitty mac fix now that they fixed their shitty mac. read more

I don't think that hot chicken really is anything that special but for a place to be considered as one of Ohio's best fried chicken places....it was ok. Got the chicken sandwich, maybe the actually fried chicken is better. Flavor wasn't bad and chicken was pretty juicy but a bit too oily and salty for me. Great slaw and corn bread, the fries are called potatoes and are very interesting but pretty decent fried chicken sandwich. Way too overpriced though. Buddy of mine and I went to check it out and the sandwiches with sides and drinks came out to almost $50. Really would rather go to chick fil a, pay $16-18 and call it a day.... Not much parking and it seems their main stream of business is takeout. But their dining room is open with minimal seating and staff is pretty chill. No! Don't TRUST the positive reviews and high rating! This is NOT the best, or even second or third best fried chicken in Columbus, Ohio. We ordered a half-chicken meal from the one on NW Boulevard and had to return it because the chicken was tough and overcooked, both dark and white meat. The good was they offered to replace the meal. The bad was that it was just as tough, too cooked and chewy the second time around. As it was in the few other meals ordered by family the second time. Family ordered the second time and they also got hard, tough, chewy chicken that they also could not eat. Also, it's $13. for a meal, and prices vary depending on what menu you're looking at. The greens were, while good, almost too salty to eat. The mashed potatoes were good, except for lots of potato chunks throughout. The Mac n cheese is drab, bland and boring. The cornbread is delicious and in large servings. The servings were generous, which is to be expected for the price, except that the thigh and drumstick were the tiniest we've ever seen! How I found out about this place is pretty funny, to me anyway. About a year ago, I was in the Kroger parking lot putting groceries in my trunk and I smelled the most delicious chicken ever - yes all the way over, near the front of the store. It was dinner time so I drove over "there" (Kroger gas station lot) and ordered a dark and white chicken dinner, Nashville Hot. I've been going there ever since and I dubbed it Kroger Chicken, haha :). The people there are proud of the food they make and are always happy to answer any questions. If you go in, they'll even let you taste stuff. Everything they make is consistently AMAZING! I have only had the Nashville Hot flavor. The chicken breasts have NEVER been dry and the meat is always tender. Our favorite sides are mac n cheese, cornbread and Texas potatoes. The mac n cheese tastes like the sour cream kind, which I love, and the cornbread is always moist and super delicious!! I'm not a fan of cole slaw or greens so I've never tried those. The food is cooked fresh so there is a wait if you're a walk-in but it's totally worth it. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. BEST CHICKEN EVER !!!! read more

For ~$14 you can order a dinner meal, which comes with plenty of fresh chicken (4 tenders or 2 breasts) and two sides. The mac 'n cheese is homemade and tasty, but don't sleep on the collared greens, which are presumably cooked in lard and smothered with butter and spices. With so many other fantastic sides, I would caution against the rather plain-tasting mashed potatoes--the only let-down to be found at this restaurant. Driving through Grandview all of the businesses were busy parking lots full outdoor patio full, pull up to the crispy coop ....empty. That should have been my first warning sign .When I think of fried chicken I think of actual crispy thick breaded fried chicken, it was very soggy and the breading thin and Bland. Sides mac and cheese texas potatoes coleslaw and greens. Good southern greens are really soft and flavorful these were still pretty crisp and the meat in the greens dry like beef jerky. The mac and cheese was very creamy but not much flavor and the coleslaw was not my favorite my eleven-year-old wouldn't touch the Texas potatoes they were just chunks of a baked potato coated in the same breading as chicken. I had asked for a side of mayonnaise for my daughter's chicken sandwich and I was told they didn't have mayonnaise but the coleslaw is mayonnaise based. She pulled off one little corner of the chicken to taste it and did not eat her food. Oh and the guy asked for a name I gave him my name and he still proceeded to call me Britney. I got the 4-piece strip in Tennessee medium which is a mix of sweet and a tiny bit of spice. Collard greens on the side. Pro tip: you can order two sides with the dinner, I accidentally ordered double collards (not the worst thing to be sure). The chicken is absolutely fantastic. Before The Crispy Coop, there was Uncle Nick's which I was not a huge fan of. I was excited when I saw this was opening. It's seemed more trendy and fast food like. I got the chicken tenders with potatoes and Mac and cheese. The chicken was good. It was salty though, but I love salt. The best was the Mac and cheese. It had a very unique flavor, not like craft or other fast food Mac such as Popeyes or KFC. If you've had The Eagles delicious Mac and Cheese, I would say that is what The CC's taste like, but cheaper. The potatoes didn't do it for me. There's only two :/, but I found personally they lacked flavor. Like I mentioned, I like salty foods. The breading is very thick so salt doesn't stick very well. My venture for Crispy Coop was brought to me in the comforts of my own home. (Thanks, Corona Virus isolation!) Crispy Coop makes an ok product, but the price-point and the amount of food you get is pretty solid for a local joint. I tried the chicken tenders with sides of the mac & Cheese & coleslaw. The Nashville Hot is not really that Hot. It brings a slight after tingle to one's lips, but is not the drop dead heat of true Nashville Hot chicken. If you can stand a hot buffalo sauce, you'll be just fine. The chicken is lightly breaded and fried vs the over kernely/crunchy KFCs we're so used to. The sides were... ok, but not life changing. The mac & cheese was borderline dry, but the coleslaw was not too shabby. The real winner is the after dinner indulgence of the Honey Bun Cake(?) they make. Oh my, the sugar... the granulated bits of euphoria. It's good, and rounds off a nice meal, should you save room. The quantity is a bit overwhelming. I ate two tenders and a couple bites of the sides and were done, and still had lunch for the next day. They are not skimping on the portions here. I was still able to eat it without ranch but there was a significant heat difference from my 1st visit. I was pretty disappointed with the flavor. I love butter but the taste of butter overpowered everything and I even got the most spicy flavor. It seemed as if I was eating butter flavored chicken not TN Spicy chicken, maybe it was just a stick of butter with chicken texture? And it was so greasy, the chicken laid in a pool of oil in the take out container. The mac and cheese was creamy and not your run of the mill stoufer's. We never make fried chicken at home, so we often look for great places to get it. The Crispy Coop was exactly what we were looking for! We loved getting to order by the piece. We loved the different spice levels. The Tennessee Medium was perfect, crispy and just spicy enough. The larger sides are enough for a lot of people- three big eaters, at least. We had Mac and cheese and cole slaw. The slaw was substantial, with more greens than just cabbage. It was great. As we were finishing the meal, I was thinking that I was going to write that the corn bread was my favorite part of the meal. Lightly sweet, soft and delicious. But, then, I had a piece of the honey bun cake. Holy.... So unbelievably good. We took all our food to go as the dining room is not open yet. Everything reheated wonderfully. Why drive all the way out to Clintonville, or Easton for Hot Chicken Takeover (HCT)!or fight for parking at their downtown location when you've got THE CRISPY COOP in a quaint little neighborhood. If any remembers ACRE in Grandview then this is where this spot is located. Not much parking but don't fret, you can always park at Kroger's which is what I did and strolled over. The ranch at Crispy Coop was tasty but you didn't have to drown your food in it to add to the chicken flavor like at HCT. I got Crispy Coops hottest which is their Nashville Hot and they absolutely nailed the taste, flavor, and spice level! When you first bite into it you go "It's not that hot," but slowly and surely the heat level creeps up on you nicely! The Jojo's aka potato wedges were classically delicious if you remember Nicks Greek Fried Chicken back in the day. Nevertheless The Crispy Coop has taken techniques from Nicks and perfected it into this new manifestation! The chicken was edible, fairly well flavored but slightly dry. The side offerings however, are what earned this place two stars. The mac and cheese literally lacked any resemblance of cheese although it was gooey. They didn't properly cook the rue so it came out with a gritty flour texture and a buttered milk taste- definitely avoid the mac and cheese here. The mashed potatoes and gravy was sour to taste. I don't know if they used sour cream and didn't mix them well or what but it was unpalatable enough I managed to spit it out rather than gag it down. The potato wedges were literally a quarter of a whole potato that should have been sliced in another half to be cooked appropriately but they were not the worst in the world. I'd like to be able to recommend them as the chicken itself really wasn't that bad. But everything else combined leads me to say- just get the chicken and leave all the rest to market research because they are not ready for launch just yet. read more

Wonderful fried chicken! My sister and I ordered carry out from The Crispy Coop last weekend and were both very pleased! The chicken was super crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. I absolutely loved the breading; it wasn't too thick or greasy and was seasoned perfectly. When you order the chicken dinner, you get a pick of two sides. I chose the collard greens and mac n cheese.
