Our server was a college student that recognized my tee shirt (Birds Aren't Real) and commented that he did a research project on the same. Really nice kid. He also helped us with the menu. We both got the fried chicken BLT, the spoon bread and mac & cheese. The spoon bread is simple corn bread, but it was really good. The mac & cheese was homemade and delicious. The sandwiches were outstanding and huge. My daughter and I could have split one between us. Instead, we brought two halves home. Not sure what this place used to be. Love this place! Came in here last weekend and sat outside for a warm spring evening. We did make a reservation somewhat last second, but were easily able to get an outdoor table. We actually got to the restaurant a little bit early and they ended up seating us outside, which was perfect. For food, I had the fried chicken sandwich with french fries and mac & cheese. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich as well, so we each got a different side. The chicken was perfectly cooked without being overly greasy or oily. The french fries were delicious, and the macaroni and cheese was heavenly. Our server was very friendly and intensive to our needs. I felt like our food came out very quickly. Stopped in for dinner with a group. There are a lot of options for beverages on the menu. We asked how many drinks were included in a pitcher and our server said it was as many drinks as people ordering. We thought that was a little strange and ended up ordering single beverages since it didnt seem to have value to order a pitcher. The service here is great. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. The fried chicken and mac and cheese were the stars of the show. Many places don't quite nail the cheese part of mac and cheese, but The Eagle's mac is very cheese-forward in the best way. After going into five restaurants with a wait of an hour and a half to close to 2 hours, we walked in The Eagle almost defeated and ready to walk back over to Shake Shack for a to go meal, The Eagle has a wait of about 20 minutes. However, the "belly gods" heard our bellies and opened 5 seats at the bar. Initially we planned to sit at the bar and wait for a table but no need since the food menu was the same. I ordered the chicken blt sandwich. It looked like a good portion size so I didn't add anything to it. However, my dining companions ordered sides and shared them everyone so I was able to try the fries (yum-not overly salty but the first order came out cold so we waited for hot fries), another had spoon bread which was cornbread served in a round skillet (very delicious-not dried out and perfect with the honey butter). Four out of five of us ordered cocktails. Three ordered lemon drops and loved it so much, they ordered a second round. I enjoyed my Maple Old Fashioned made with bourbon so one glass was good for me. :) I liked that they had indoor and outdoor seating. It was a little too cold for us on the Saturday evening we were in town but it's a nice space to hang out with family and friends. read more

We had a fabulous early Dinner after Hops on High. We were so fortunate to get in quickly. Our server Claudia was wonderful. We enjoyed the Hot Chicken Dip appetizer. It did not lack in Spice. We were amused that Claudia even offered extra salt, pepper or hot sauce... like what? The food is seasoned perfectly. Daddins had the braised pulled pork sandwich.. it was enormous. Service: waitress was nice, but just doing her job type. Not very attentive, I found myself waiting for waters for quite sometime. Ambiance/Atmosphere: beautiful outside patio, smaller inside. A nice bar and clean. You can tell this is more of a hangout and be outside sort of restaurant and not necessarily for families. Of course it is family friendly, just painting a picture of his proposed groups. Food: The chicken sandwich was the highlight of the meal, it was delicious. Crispy, juicy, flavorful, and on a nice bread. The Cole slaw was heavy on the mayo, but it was a nice taste and complemented the dry bread well. This is a definite order. Burger was not good. The bacon jam was a pleasant tasting topping and a subtle sweet, the cheese was a quality cheese and the toppings fresh. The bun was nothing special, but good. The burger patty is when this fell apart. Dry, overcooked, and not a pleasant tasting patty. I'd recommend skipping this. Mac n cheese was good. Creamy, flavorful, and a nice bread crumb topping. Nothing out of this world, but above average restaurant Mac n cheese. If you like Mac n cheese, I'd recommend giving this a try. Hush puppies were delicious. Crispy outside, fluffy soft inside, and flavorful. These were another highlight of this meal and I found myself wiping out the whole tray. The sauce they come with is alright, but I'd do without. I'd definitely recommend this dish. Chicken cheese dip was fine. Spicy, creamy, ok flavor this was not my favorite. It wasn't bad, but when I was told this was a highlight, after giving it a try I would have said it was a joke. We showed up at 6:30 for my son's 19th birthday dinner. They said 75 minute wait. Ok fine. We walked downtown and bought stuff, came back at 7:40pm. "Hey it's been almost 75 minutes, think we can eat?" They said well we have reservations at 7:30pm that haven't shown we're gonna wait five more minutes to see if they do. Ok fine. We walked away for ten more minutes to come back. They then say 'ok yea we'll get you a table'. Another guy comes in says he had a reservation. They try and give him our table! But he says he wants bar inside. So we sit at 7:55pm. The waitress is pleasant we order at 8:00pm. At 8:35pm our food is delivered to the table next us! And the runner is asking "whose salad is this" etc the table is like 'we're missing this and that'. No, you gave them our food. So the customers literally hand our plates to us from the next table. The runner apologizes to them! Omg. Now it's awkward even worse. They have pushed me and my two 19&21 yr old sons into the drunk Ohio state crowd we didn't want. The site was asks if it's ok we're like sure but she sees I'm kinda mad. The food is good but 20 degrees colder than it should be even if it's "cold out". They seemed really stressed. The eagle has become a bar with food. It used to be great food with some drinks. Don't hold a reservation because we drove an entire hour to be there. You literally gave up seats to no one. Came here with my friends. We had a Sunday night reservation. They were very accomodating in providing my son a booster and high chair. We did not find street parking, so parked at the nearby garage. We ended up getting the drums (5), and ordering the mashed potatoes, biscuits, spoonbread, and mac and cheese as sides. This was enough food for two adults and a toddler. We also got the sweet tea, which is as sweet as how the South would make it, but a good addition to the meal. I enjoyed the spoonbread the most along with thr chicken. I personally did not like the horseradish flavor on the mashed potatoes. The biscuits and mac and cheese were okay too. What a positive first experience at the Eagle. We came through for a dinner to celebrate an OSU graduation. We were a party of 8 so they placed us in a semi-private room in the back near the kitchen. Our server was super attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. He had a whole spiel that he ran through in the beginning. The real shining star moment was when the GM came over to chat with our table. One member of our party had celiac disease. For those that do not know this means they can absolutely not eat gluten without getting terribly ill. As it turns out the GM also has celiac disease and came over to chat through options with us. He also accommodated us by working with the kitchen to cook proteins in a separate pan in a special way to avoid cross-contamination. It's not often you see people willing to accommodate someone so fiercely. It left an impact on me. So thank you to that manager and the staff that helped us. Food was fantastic. I think everyone loved what they ordered. Hush puppies were a big hit at our table. Fries were great. And I loved my fried chicken sammie. We'd definitely return! read more

If you want really good comfort food in Columbus, then you have to go to The Eagle. We have been to this place twice and both times the food was just delicious, every single dish. Just writing this review makes me want to have some fried chicken. Highly recommend that you make a reservation. This place can get pretty busy. We made reservation both times and were seated right away. The last time we went, we were a party of 9. They set us at a private area, which was really nice. It seemed like we had the restaurant to ourselves. The staffs were friendly and very accommodating. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday boy doesn't drink. I asked the server if they can bring something with a candle to wish him a happy birthday. Our server indicated that since the birthday boy did not drink and that they don't have desserts, they can bring a spoonbread with a candle, on the house. Usually you can get a free shot for your bday. All the staffs were super sweet. Ok, now for the food. As I stated before, everything was delicious. You really can't go wrong with any items. We ordered the whole fried chicken, mac and cheese, biscuits, spoonbread and mashed potatoes. My favorite was the chicken, of course, flavored to perfection. My least favorite was the mashed potatoes, and yet it was still good. Oh I almost forgot about the Sweet Iced Tea. It's soooo good. Went here with a very large group of people to celebrate a big birthday. They have a party room available for up to 18, and it was the perfect private spot. No rental charge or minimum order. Their family meal is the way to go if you have a large group. $22/person with at least 6 people eating it. Multiple appetizers, entrees and sides come with it. We ordered a half chicken, fries, and collard greens but nothing was super standout. Chicken was good, small pieces but pretty normal southern fried chicken. Fries were good and the aioli that came along was also pretty good. Collard greens were fairly standard. For the cost and being "known" for chicken, I just wasn't impressed. The Eagle is freakin' delicious. It reminds me of a lot of the Southern restaurants I used to love when I was younger with lots of focus on smokier flavors and comfort food. Their fried chicken is definitely the stand-out here with a multi-hour brine that REALLY makes their chicken stand out compared to anything else. We've been to other The Eagle locations, and it's on-par, food-wise and drink-wise, with other Eagle locations. You'll feel comfortable here if you know the chain. PROS: -Seriously, their fried chicken is freakin' fantastic. It's near perfect, and if you're a chicken person, this is reason enough to stop into the Eagle. -But if you aren't a fried chicken person, the sides are where it's at. Unlike most restaurants where "sides" are this often-ignored part of the menu, the "sides" are some of the main courses here if you aren't getting fried chicken. They don't phone it in, though. All of the sides we got were abso-frickin'-lutely delicious with gigantic portion sizes that you could share with others. I'd say most of the sides are portioned for two people to share. -Mac and Cheese has a deep, smoked cheese flavor that's heavy and delicious. It pairs perfectly with the smoked flavors of a lot of the dishes. -French fries are good! They could be thicker (they're the thinner style of fries), but very well salted and yummy. -Homemade biscuits are worth ignoring the rest of the menu and just getting the biscuits. They are some of the best I've had with that blackberry jam. -A ridiculous rainstorm (flooding the sidewalks and streets) came down 10 minutes before our reservation. They were happy to push back our reservation when we couldn't make it exactly on-time. -Decent beer menu if you're a beer person. It looks like it changes often, so you'll have to be in-restaurant to view it. -Service was good! She was clearly busy with multiple tables, but she stopped in often, and our waters never went dry. She was very friendly. Zero complaints. -The outdoor area is gigantic, and I'm sad it was raining when we came. I'd love to sit out there sometime. (It is not covered from rain or sun.) CONS: -I looooooove that they offer Sweet Potato Crock. I never see this in restaurants - ever! But the sweet potato half could definitely use a bit of brightening. It's good as-is, but some nutmeg or cinnamon could really brighten it up even more. read more

Always a fan of the Eagle!! We each got 1/4 dark chicken and the sides we shared were the Mac n cheese which is AMAZING, spoon bread, collards, and sweet potato crock. The collards had a little kick to them which was tasty! Honestly would come here more except the prices are a little steep for what you get. It's all good tasting food, but the prices are meh. If you share one side with 4 people total, there's usually only enough for like one large spoonful. If you wanted to eat just yourself and get chicken and one side, the cheapest combo would be $15 but usually more, not including drinks. I wish they offered some sort of combo deal with chicken and two sides! Service was great per usual. read more

My 2nd time trying the Eagle. The service and ambiance were great, it's a good place to hang. The food was pretty good, the shrimp and grits had a lot of flavor and so did the collard greens. The sweet potato and mac and cheese were okay, but a little underwhelming for southern comfort. The biscuits and chicken were great, I used hot honey on the chicken and it was a great choice. We were back in Columbus for a Buckeyes game, and of course we couldn't leave without going back to our favorite restaurant here! We walked then 1.5 miles after the game to beat the crowds, and snagged a seat at the cozy bar. We ordered their maple old fashions, which were delectable and perfect. Then, we shared a bunch of dishes - the spoonbread (sinfully good), mac and cheese (the perfect combination of cheeses), the kale salad (possibly the best salad I have ever had with the most to-die-for cornbread croutons), and of course, the fried chicken sandwich. I feel like I have been so disappointed by so many fried chicken sandwiches in my life because I compared them all to this fried chicken sandwich. This one is just perfect - the meal is quality and fresh, it's fried to perfect, the bun is perfectly crisp, and the accompaniments are just perfect. It cannot be beat. The Eagle has hands down the best traditional fried chicken in Columbus. We have been here a few times, and each time the chicken was warm and crispy, made fresh, and cooked to perfection. To top the delicious chicken, all the sides I have had here are fantastic. On our last visit, we had a large group, which the restaurant was able to accommodate very efficiently. As an FYI, for groups larger than 8, you should call the restaurant in advance. Our group was seated in our own private room, which was nice. The ambiance at the Eagle is rustic yet comfortable, and the private rooms can easily accommodate parties of up to 12. Our server and her group of helpers were helpful and patient with our party as several of us took our time to place our separate orders. On this trip, we ordered a whole chicken (best value), along with sides of spoonbread, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, white cheddar grits, hush puppies, homemade biscuits, and a kale salad. While all of these sides were great, the spoonbread and the kale salad were my personal favorite (and I don't even like kale). I always look for reasons to go to The Eagle.
