I'll reuse my old quip that 3 stars on Yelp isn't considered good, this isn't my company's work performance review. And I'll defer to the town elders about whether if I'm being unfair to a place that might be the heir to Maxwell's because of a "me" problem. I expected more of a "standing bar" venue. There's a main seating area that seems designated for full service food and drinks. The smaller seating area on the right felt like more of a VIP area. There were no signs, fences or bouncers stopping me from sitting in these places. The unambiguous standing area was quite small. I'm unclear on the ethics of whether it's required to buy drinks considering the delightfully low $10 cover charge. But I did enjoy a Down East cider and more shockingly, a loganberry hard cider from Canisteo, NY's own Cross Creek. Still, the DIY vibe is more refreshing than City Winery charging more than Live Nation to get through the door, tacking on $25 minimums and seating you with strangers. The men's room is currently out of service so I used the modular set-up outside (flush, not porta, but my rating on this sub-section of the trip varies depending on whether the light is working!) On the bright side, there's a great assortment of cover bands and originals on the calendar. I was here for Ashtray Floors, who had a stellar homage to The Replacements. I never thought I'd hear Left Of The Dial live again. And REM tribute band The Ones You Love also rocked the joint. Crossroads deserves credit just for hosting these shows but also for good sound quality whether it was the haunting echoes of the late Bob Stinson or the mandolin in Losin' My Religion. And if I don't see ya, in a long, long while, I'll try to find you, left of the Garwood NJ Transit stop. read more

Great place to see a show. It's small and the parking lot is very limited, but there is parking on side streets in the neighborhood. We've been here many times and it's always fun. Best kept secret. Most people go for the live music not realizing they have some amazing bites! All the food is Louisiana authentic Cajun food. Try the alligator bites or the seafood étouffée both really unique and delicious and perfectly matched with a wide selection of beer and wine. Definitely worth a try and the music is always a bonus. Crossroads is deserving of 4 stars, the food isn't something to write home about but it's great having a nice local live music venue to go to and they have awesome acts come. I enjoyed a 90s alt rock group, Pink Floyd tribute and zeppelin tribute here. Definitely reserve a table if you don't want to stand for hours when they have a really popular act. When it's busy, you might be stuffed like sardines in a tin can. However on a quieter night, more empty tables and breathing room. They also have 2 darts boards that are cute. I had a smoked old fashioned which was strong AF, a Shirley temple (yes my friends make fun of me for ordering a kid drink- but that's ok!), and a non alcoholic mojito which was also surprisingly decent. The chicken tenders come in a massive bowl (portion size is enough for two), as do the French fries (the bowl is practically trough sized, we barely made a dent in it). Great venue. We're coming back. We came for Ben Nichols but our waitress, Jordan, was the real star of the show. I have a disability and she made my wife and mine's night special. I remember coming to cross roads 6-7 years back for my sons piano recital :) and now he is grown up and he is going GIGs in cross roads . Love their ambience and live music ! They have a simple menu. Food here is good and not so expensive : they have full fledged bar with multiple IPA selections . Very good service and quick billing . Less veggie options but I tried cauliflower tempura and it tasted good . Lots of chicken options . Parking is good but can get cramped in peak times . Overall a very good time . read more

I've driven past Crossroads more times than I can count but finally went to go see a band during the summer. There's a small parking lot but you can find street parking. The bartender was friendly and the drinks were well made. The venue is small and was more of an intimate setting. I'm glad we got there early because the place was packed! the crossroads has been that place that so many bands have played at, and i always said id make my way down here for a show. well years later, i popped up for trivia night on a random monday. LOL. first off, theres plenty of free parking. 2nd, the beer selection is AMAZING. they even do flights! am i at a bar or a brewery? 3rd, the food was good. better than bar food, but nothing amazing. the trivia night was awesome - im warning you the whole place was packed, we didnt have reservations, so we lucked out with grabbing the last table. call ahead if you plan on coming with a group. the voodoo shrimp was good. felt like a buffalo sauce. i wouldnt mind this on a sandwich. and to be honest, they make the sauce themselves and they bottle it - that gains some points in my book. flat thin crust pizza wasnt bad either. its simple, gets the job done and serves its purpose. i would come back for a show, beer and try more food in a heartbeat. read more

$16 general admission standing ticket to dueling pianos barely warranted as you buy drinks and food and request songs which end up playing for whole 30 seconds. My drinks were inexpensive but after 2 i was very much sober. When someone put "Trump 2024" sign on the stage I wanted to vomit so left immediately. A nice small place which is about the music. A split level which features a bar a couple of steps up. Dining room doubles as an audience area for live music. We were originally sat in line with the front door on a cold night but we were graciously moved on request. We ordered crawfish Mac and cheese and veggie spring rolls which we're served with a sweet dipping sauce. Both items were decent. Service was very good which adds a star. Prices were high ($15 old fashion and $10 pp cover charge for the band) which subtracts a star. I'm not sure if the cover is only for feature bands but if I ever go back I'll call ahead first. I get the cover due to covid restrictions but there are still places that don't charge. I must say they were very up front about the cover and the place is run well. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Crossroads added two large tents on their outside patio that are lit up at night with mini lights which gives it a nice ambiance. They have tables and chairs spaced out for social distancing.. All the servers wear a mask, and patrons are asked to wear a mask when using their indoor facilities. The vibe is upbeat and the staff does a really good job of accommodating everyone. There's music 7 nights a week, usually a solo or duo act. Every Mondays starting 8/17 there is Trivia at 9 PM with BK! Sign up's at 8:30! 1ST PLACE AND 2ND PRIZE WINNERS! Beer Pong Tournament Sign Up's at 10:30 PM! $200 PRIZE! Bring Your Own Mug Night Beer Specials $3, $4, $5 BEER SPECIALS, and $0.60 Wings. I must say they definitely make decent drinks. I tried their frozen margarita- Cuervo gold tequila, triple sec, sour mix, and OJ. I also tried my standard drink of Tito's and club with a fresh lemon it was made well. Crossroads also makes their own boozy push up pops for $5. ( 21 and older) You have several flavors to choose from.. I tried the vodka, cranberry mix . They also serve wine and speciality cocktails. The food here is Cajun/ New Orleans Style with American classics thrown in. . I started with their Thai Spring Rolls which are vegetarian and served with a plum dipping sauce The spring rolls were deep fried and golden brown stuffed with a nice amount of veggies. The plum sauce really added a nice touch. I could've eaten a dozen of these. I asked my waitress for suggestions for my entree. Her recommendation was The Chicken Filet BLT sandwich served on brioche bun with golden deep fried Panko breaded chicken cutlet, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon and mayo and it came with waffle fries. This sandwich was enormous! I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. The chicken was so moist and tender, the bacon was nice and crispy. The the lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese just made it that much better. The waffle fries were delicious too. I only ate half and took the other half home. My friend ordered their Cajun Catfish dinner and it came with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. You could also choose rice for a side. She thoroughly enjoyed her dinner and her drinks. It was nice to listen to music while I ate. There is a small parking lot for parking. If that gets full most people park 1/2 block up the street in the strip mall, or on the street. Crossroads does take reservations. This place is doing it right during the pandemic and made my dining experience a really enjoyable one. I will definitely be returning. read more

True Score: 4 Stars Cool Small Music Venue Visited in December to see Stanley Jordan play. It is a great bar type venue. The staff were amazing, the food was pretty good and it was a great experience all round! Lee is the owner and from the second you walk in, Lee's awesome mother greets you like an old friend. Music starts around 8:30, I suggest going early if you want to have dinner and get that out of the way before the music starts...it gets crowded!!! and its tough to get a seat. The venue also has good local musicians with a constant stream of people going on stage jamming with the house band. I highly recommend it for a good night out of good food and good live music. We ordered from the new Sunday Brunch menu and it was delicious! I got the hash bowl with scrambled eggs and bacon. You have other choices also. My husband had the cold lobster roll. Absolutely AMAZING restaurant. If you are in the area, or catching a flight from Newark, this place is a must!! They just started with a new brunch menu with some delicious items; we got the Avocado Toast, Beignets, and the Kobe Wagyu Burger, with sides of cheese grits and an egg. The avocado toast was incredibly fresh and the bread was delicious. I have only had Beignets in New Orleans before but when I saw beignets with blueberry compote we HAD to try them, all I can say is wow! The compote was so delicious and complemented the beignets perfectly. The wagyu burger was awesome as well! It came with thick slices of bacon on top, typically I don't love cheddar cheese but the cheddar on top of the burger was so gooey and melty it complements the burger perfectly!! Additionally, we also got the rose sangria which was so fruity and delicious with large chunks of fresh fruit inside and dried apple slices inside the cups! I also got a pumpkin White Russian which may be one of the best drinks I've ever had in my life. It's creamy and delicious and even comes with pie crumbs around the rim. On top of everything else, the staff is super kind and friendly. We had Sarah as our server and she was amazing and so sweet. Also, they are all wearing their masks CORRECTLY, which is a major positive for me with the pandemic going on right now, and the tables are appropriately spaced out. Went for a beer and some rock tunes since they have live bands on Thursday night. We don't know who booked these kids, it one band was literally screaming derogatory language into the mic and played horribly (I think it was intentional.) Our bar tender was so kind and apologetic and it wasn't her fault. I felt terrible but we had leave. The place was empty! Apparently better bands played before these guys. Anyhow. omg where do i start? first of all i should have known their food still sucks today. the nachos i got were not as hot as they should be. theres no ingredients list so i got jalapenos in them and i don't eat jalapenos. so i had to pick them out. it says veggie nachos which was jalapenos, olives, scallions, and tomatoes. thats it! but they should specify. not everyone can have spicy peppers. most of the group didn't get their food or it was cold. it was very slow. waitress was handling the bar and us! i mean come on! i felt bad for her becuz she was so nice and it wasn't her fault. poor management it seems like. comedians that nite were boring and not funny. i had fun with my group of friends but the nite was a waste. wish i could have gotten food else where. read more

The average music/restaurant/bar venue tends to focus on one aspect and the other two usually come in a distant third. Many bars have live music but it normally consists of a guy with a guitar or keyboard and amp and a tip jar. While there is nothing wrong with this, of course, the focus is never the music, it's the alcohol or sometimes it's the food. Crossroads is different. The music is presented professionally, on a stage with a sound board as it should be. Bands are hand picked by management to provide the best possible in small venue entertainment. The food and service are also quite good. I have been going to Crossroads for the better part of 10 years, usually to see my favorite Led Zep tribute band, Black Dog. If you haven't had the opportunity to see them, they're fantastic. Close your eyes and you'll probably be fooled. Cajun food is good, authentic and well-priced. Drinks are as they should be and even though they do get crazy busy, especially when a hot band is playing, service is never lacking. Parking does suck and the lot fills quickly so you probably want to get there early. Tables are also fairly close together. However, if you are looking to see a band, presented in a professional way and enjoy some good food, I recommend you give them a try. Great place. read more

I have been to The Crossroads for shows plenty of times. The sound system at the venue is great and the venue part is a bit small but that's what makes each show special: an intimate crowd. I recently saw Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem perform at the Crossroads. It's a very cool venue to see a show. The stage is in a back corner and there is a bar towards the back which is up a few stairs. There are a few large TVs by the bar too which make it great to enjoy a game or watch highlights between performers. The parking lot gets filled fast so you may need to park in a residential area and walk a few blocks depending on the artist's popularity. There is a wide selection of craft bottles. Also I recommend noshing on a few mozzarella sticks in between acts. They are out of this world. The thing I liked about the Crossroads is the crowd control. They are very adamant about keeping a walk way clear from the stairs by the bar to the bathroom. You won't need to worry about losing your spot or fighting your way back. The best view is to stand by the bar for slight elevation but depending on the interest level of the patrons in this area you may be distracted by loud talking. read more
