One of my new fave biz to support. Attended a couple of shows for the first time this year & love supporting it! A lot of free parking, 2 eateries in the lot, and the comedy here is great. I have been to 3 shows and am looking fwd to my 4th. They have a bar. Tix prices are pretty reasonable. I wish I had come here soooooooner. They are doing awesome things here for comedy, the community, and local biz.

I had the honor of attending an event at The Crow last night for my friend Elissa Kalver's book launch (btw go pre-order it - We Got This, to read about how she learned to thrive with terminal cancer). Through Elissa I'd heard of Nicole's non-profit, Storyectomy, which helps people cope with their cancer experience - be they a survivor, a thriver, or a caregiver. As part of the night we heard from several "graduates" of Storyectomy, and what a powerful event! Through them I heard traces of my own experience; cancer is awful and I hate that it's this nebulous horrible thing that connects so many of us, but it's great knowing there are communities out there to help us cope and adapt. While I wasn't there for a typical event, I think this venue is fantastic, and dare I say it the founder is even more so. Thank you for giving people a place to share their voice.

What a fun and supportive place to do an open mic! I had been so rusty and not prepared for some material but wanted to get up and perform. Great talented and supportive group of women! So happy this is up on the westside and I will definitely be a regular. I've got a lot to work on lol! Very excited to have found this place!

Went to The Crow on Sunday afternoon to see a staged reading of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder. It was hard to tell who enjoyed the show more, the audience or the cast. The lady who created The Crow spoke before the show began. It's quite wonderful people create venues where people who have that very special talent of being able to entertain others can entertain others. The Crow is a small enough venue for the audience to actually be able see the actors. My younger brother is in show business. He lives in New York City and won a Tony a few years ago. He goes to shows almost every night. He would have noticed all sorts of marvelous things about this show I didn't notice because I am not in show business.

SNL standup comedy like show that "The Phoenix" invited me to and we sat through it and it was fun for the most part. The space was perfect size not too big or too much space. Interesting and good service.

Fun location. Nice staff. Nice space. The night I attended the comedians were funny. It's not really a food venue: I think they have cookies for sale along with beer. Hopefully they'll get better chairs soon. Metal on concrete is loud in a performance space. The space feels new still. I hope it succeeds.

Read on: In an email that mentioned the Irvine Improv in large type, I received an offer for free tickets to any of several comedy shows at various local venues. The Improv was not the sender, as stated within. I chose my show, purchased two passes, and paid a $3 service fee for each. I phoned the venue to confirm date/time. The poor woman who answered had no idea what I was talking about. The venue was correct, but those who booked it did not list their own telephone number. At this point, I realized that there may--or may not--be a show, this may be a scam. On the day of the show, I paid a sitter, drove out to the venue, paid for parking, and stood in line for an hour. When it was my turn to go in, I was ushered to the side to see a lady (Dee). Dee explained that the show was oversold and that my tickets had been refunded. She was very sorry, it was not her fault that I was not contacted and told this in advance/over the phone. It was not her company's fault. It was everyone else's fault. Read on. I emailed Laughstub a couple of times to confirm that my $6 fee was refunded and got no response. Today, I phoned Laughstub and got Dee. Lucky me. Dee explained how I was in the wrong in every way: I should not have used email. I should not have emailed the address with which I had corresponded in the past (funny, she did not volunteer a correct email). I should have known that the fine print states that there are no refunds on the $6 fee. I should know that paid tickets get precedence over free tickets. I should know that it's stupid of me to tell her I won't use her company anymore and will avoid it, because that's like saying I won't use Windows anymore. (ps, what is Windows? Looked for it all over my Mac and it does not seem to be installed...) I should know that it's the client's (Comedy Central's) fault and that this is how they choose to handle the problem, not Laughstub's bla bla bla. The list goes on, but I have tired you, dear reader. I am staying so far away from anything promoted by or associated with LAUGHSTUB, it's not even funny!!!

The show was also funny and very entertaining. There's a couple of things that sort of left me with a strange taste in my mouth. We sat next to one of the male contestants, and when one of the guys got called up to the stage, he ran down the aisle and they fist-pumped. I asked him how they knew each other and he said they did another dating show like this before. So it made me wonder if these good looking guys just go on the "LA dating show circuit" to hook up with girls. It made me wonder what their actual intentions are. Maybe I'm overthinking it. But I'd like to see guys up there who genuinely want to find a partner. I know there are plenty of them out there. The other strange thing was after the show, we're all mingling and the bachelorette is talking to everyone else except the guy that she picked as the winner! And she was even talking to the guy that she eliminated, like for the rest of the night. So it just made me wonder what the contestants are even looking for. I also didn't like that all the guys wrote sexual poems. Again I feel like the show can find guys that actually have romantic intentions and aren't just looking for a hook up after the show.

Someone associated from the production was trying to have the people that did buy tickets be able to sit through the rehersal since it would be a full run-through. Astronomical unprofessionalism and zero regard for the audience's time and frankly money. If you have already purchased tickets to one of their performances I highly recommend that you confirm if the show is still going on so your time isn't wasted.
