We've been to The Cut Hut multiple times for haircuts but will never come again. We stopped by The Cut Hut today for my haircut. My boyfriend wanted to grab something to eat while he waited for me and saw a food truck right across the street. Unfortunately, before we'd even taken 2 steps from our car, a woman from The Cut Hut came outside and aggressively started yelled at us "you can't park here!" and before we could explain we were hoping to just grab to-go right across the way before coming back to get a haircut, she was shoo-ing us away with rude looks and hand gestures. Such a rude and unnecessary way to handle the situation. We'll find a new place for haircuts from now on. read more

I cannot believe this place is even in business. This is the type of haircut you'd get in a Dollar General or something. Completely botched my fade (picture below). Also, she went too high up on the sideburns on the other side so it's completely uneven. How do you mess up this badly? It's clear now why the haircuts are less than half the price of any other place around. I'm thinking about buzzing my head bald rather than wearing this abomination on my head. Went in for my first haircut, since pre-COVID. 99% of places in Austin are still reservation only, as much as a month out. Last haircut was in February and I was an absolute mop-head, until this morning. Got up and found this place on Google and I am so glad I stopped in. A wonderful haircut, for sure, but Lisa was especially pleasant and professional. My new girlfriend has never seen me with a fresh haircut and was pleasantly surprised by my appearance. Way more than 5 star service! They have a very clean location and are easy to find. They are a simple salon and straight to the point, haircuts and shampoos only. No coloring or styling. Their pricing is extremely reasonable and they are passionate about what they do! I typically go to Super Cuts or Cost Cutters, but have never had such a great experience at those places like I did here. That's why I was looking for a new place to get a haircut. I had Lisa, who shampooed and cut my hair. She did a phenomenal job and was very personable. She has been a stylist for over 30 years! She was amazing! I've lived in Austin for about 9 years and have been to places from super cuts, to Birds Barbershop, to fancy "man's man" beard oil barbers. I've paid both too little and got what I paid for, and far too much and felt robbed by the time I got home. At the end of the day, I just want a good looking haircut by a pleasant person, and a good cost. 9 years later I found it. To top that off I decide to return to get my haircut again, "Not too much just the edges and sides." I said. After being done she says, "Ok we'll see you next time! No charge for just an edge up." Love this place! So clean, well kept, and neat. TV for those bored, magazines that are actually up to date, a coat hangar to hold your things, and free gum! They take of you really well, and the haircut was super on point. I'm really bad at describing what I want so I just told her "shorter" and very little else, and she just knew what would be good and it came out looking great and I am really satisfied. Joann was my person today and she is so sweet, fun to get to know, and talented. I will definitely be here again soon. She's warm, friendly, and more than anything-- she's herself. I've always had trouble finding a good (while cheap) barber shop in Austin. But when this place opened up in West Campus I had to try it out at least for the convenience. This shop used to be "Pro Cuts" on Guadalupe by Torchy's and is now under new ownership. The employees are very professional and are pretty good at what they do. I typically go to Vietnamese barber shops in California who charge about $9-11 for a simple fade cut so the jump to a $16 cut was a bit discerning, but again the convenience seemed worth it. Very rarely do I find a place where they cut my hair symmetrically and neatly but it seems that I have found that place today. The barbers are efficient and easy to converse with making the experience much more light hearted. They do offer a free rinse after the haircut so you don't go home with hair falling everywhere on your way home. They also mentioned that if you want to come in for a "edge up" (trim the sideburns and neckline) they will do that for free as well. Furthermore, if you want to adjust your new cut, you can come in within 3 days and have it for free. I don't see many barber shops offer this kind of service and perks and the fact that it is conveniently located next to a 7/11, sandwich shop, and a few blocks from my apt is very appealing. Definitely worth looking into if you live around the area or haven't found a consistent barber yet. read more

Where do I even begin? I showed the lady who cut my son's hair a picture of what I wanted and gave a description, and she abruptly nodded and just went to work. After she was done in less than 10 minutes, I was surprised and excited to see the final result, thinking she must be fantastic if she could do it that fast. There's a reason it was done that fast. My son has been complaining about how horrible it looks, and I have to say I can't blame him. There's basically a bald patch on the side of his head where she messed up!! And on top of that, she had the nerve to say it was a "calic" (classic barber excuse). Really?? That's weird, considering no one has ever noticed that calic before in their lives, including himself and me (who cut his hair for years). Bottom line: this establishment is full of rude, pretentious staff who could care less about the quality of the customer's haircut and just want to grab your money! The women here have great chemistry and always partake in wonderful banter, which you're free to join in on or leave alone. I'm usually one to get my haircut and get out, but the barbers here are so welcoming that I often converse with them. One of the only truly lighthearted shops I've been to, and I've never had to wait. They've been doing this for years, and they always give great, consistent cuts. I got a super basic haircut here, but I was really impressed! I didn't have to wait at all, and the prices are unbeatable. All the women working were very professional. I would recommend washing your hair prior to coming if you are a woman, as that did not seem to be standard practice. Luckily, I had just washed my hair prior to coming. The woman who cut my hair (so sad I cannot remember her name ) was careful and precise--talked to me throughout to make sure I received the pixie I wanted.
