Rain was in the forecast for our annual trip to the Mt Washington Resort so a massage was one of the options in our back pocket. However, after looking at the hotel menu and pulling my jaw off the floor I quickly clicked on the Yelp app to find a few affordable alternatives. Given location, menu and prices and what we were looking for Mr. G selected The Cut Off Salon & Day Spa. With short notice I felt lucky that they had openings and scooped them up. After a quick shower we headed out. It's been a few years since I've lived in NH/VT so I have forgotten how many miles there can be between gas stations so with a slight panic I coasted the majority of the way (thankfully downhill) towards North Conway. I was able to settle in after we fueled up at Patch's market then picked up the pace to find the salon. I did a mass move and did a few turns back and forth before calling over to find out where the heck we were. Needless to say I submitted a location update to Yelp after making a bunch of turn arounds. The traffic got heavy close to the center of town and came to a standstill. So be prepared for it and give yourself some extra extra time with traffic. They received a few cancellations because of traffic so give yourself 15-30 additional mins and plan to relax and flip through their magazines or draft up some reviews. Much more relaxing then gripping the steering wheel in a panic. Making an appt was easy and the people on the phone were courteous and pleasant both times we called (for appt and directions when we got lost). The salon shares the same driveway as the Eastern Inns and is just to the left behind the tree line (which you can't really see from the road). Walking into a modern airy space we were welcomed at the check in desk and Mr. G met Donna and away he went for his 90 min Swedish massage. I jumped back in the car and headed to the Local Grocer where I sipped a smoothy before returning for my facial. Samantha was cheerful, fun, light but very professional. She asked me some basic questions and tailored the products and techniques to my skin needs. I am more comfortable making requests and am always glad I do. The table was heated which I just love since I tend to get cold (even in the heat of the summer since most places crank their a/c). I also mentioned the face steamer which melted me into such a relaxing state. The room was modern and clean with wonderful products that seeped into my skin and gave me a tingly refreshing feeling. The rose and lavender fragrances awakened my senses but were not so over powering to throw me into a sneezing fit. We talked and laughed but was also able to fall into a semi state of unconsciousness as she gently pushed on pressure points throughout my neck, face, and head. The hour went by quickly and now I am thinking about my next trip back. I ended up having a combo Bioelements Acne facial which I didn't plan on since I don't really consider myself having acne but later my face cleared up and felt smooth and soft without any irritation. Samantha showed me a few of the products but I did not feel pressured in any way. I am glad I went with the facial over the massage as its what I needed. Mr. G got a mild to med Swedish massage. He felt like he had gotten a massage (I know that may sound strange but we've got to a few where you don't feel any different, big letdown) and knew some of the kinks had been worked out since he could now turn his head from side to side which he couldn't do when he first walked in. I am really thankful schedules and timing worked out and we got a chance to visit this gold nugget. Well worth the price and trip into town. read more

We live in the area and went to The Cut Off for the first time after a recommendation. We got facials, waxes, and pedicures. The facial was extremely relaxing and they provided great tips for skin care. I felt moisturized rejuvenated and glowing for a long time after. The waxes came out flawless and the wax was amazing for sensitive skin. They exfoliated and plucked along with the wax. We could not be happier. Roanna and Amber were amazing! I hate leaving negative reviews but I'm so disappointed I have to share my experience. I booked two appointments here with Jenny to get my hair and make up done for an event ( one trial appt. and one the morning of). The first appointment was okay at best. My hair came out good however, it was definitely rushed. Jenny said she would touch it up better on the day of.. which I thought was fair. As for the make up, I had a terrible experience. I told Jenny what I was looking for .. something more subtle and natural. I looked awful. I felt like she didn't listen!! She put eye liner on my eyes completely different lengths and widths.. We went over what I would change for the event and I was on my way. Overall I felt rushed and unimportant. Maybe I wasn't a priority as I was not a bridal customer. The next appointment was even more awful. The first thing Jenny asked me was if I remembered cash for a tip ( they don't accept tips on cards btw) ... very awkward. My hair was clearly not a priority and looked terrible. Jenny talked to other hairdressers the entire time and ignored me. When I told Jenny I wanted no make up - as I was going to do my own she talked me into a partial face and it looked AWFUL. There was so much dark eyeshadow that fell under my eyes I left there looking like a raccoon. She put brown eye shadow all the way up to my brows and it was crazy !! I washed it all off and had to spend an hour fixing my hair. So disappointing as I paid over $200 between the 1st and 2nd appt. Absolutely awful experience ! read more

This is my very favorite salon. Sharon, one of the owners and the staff are very accommodating, friendly and very professional. Sharon has been my stylist for many years. She is always educating herself and the staff on the newest techniques of coloring, cutting and styling. I always leave feeling and looking my very best. My last appointment I became a beautiful Red Head. and loving every minute of it.The Day Spa is one of the best in the north country. Thank you for going above and beyond. Even though I have only had my "trial" there so far and haven't been back for the big day yet, I wanted to put in a good word for The Cut Off Salon and Michelle in particular. I am getting married nearby the salon soon, and I was nervous about finding a good make up artist in this area, much less a place with products for my skin tone (think cafe-au-lait, as I am mixed-race). The make up that they use at The Cut Off is great; I do not regularly wear makeup and do not like the feel of it on my skin, but you barely notice the Mirabella product on your skin it is so light and fresh. Michelle was extremely accommodating to my hemming and hawing - since I do not usually wear makeup, I had a lot of stipulations about what I did and did not want for my wedding makeup. She took over an hour to get it just right with me and was very open to trying out different shades and techniques to get the look exactly how I wanted it. I was extremely happy with the trial results - I felt gorgeous and the makeup wore very well throughout the rest of the day (I kept it on for about 7 hours and only had a bit of rub off from my lower lashes when all was said and done). I would definitely recommend The Cut Off Salon and Michelle in particular for your wedding day makeup. I am looking forward to feeling like a princess on my wedding day with their help! read more

My friends and I do a vacation in NH every 1.5 years or so, and usually the girls hit up the outlets for a girls day out. This year we tried out a winter vacation, so an outdoor shopping plaza didn't sound so appealing...in came spa day. I had a 1 hour massage (I think her name was Elissa? I'm bad with names), and one of my friends got a 1 hour prenatal massage. Both of us LOVED IT. Now, I have horrible neck/shoulder/back issues (and am a migraine sufferer) and get a 45 minutes massage every month. I was nervous to see a different massage therapist and have a different style (Swedish rather than my usual trigger point), but I walked out of there feeling like a new person and planning on coming back the next time I was in NoCo. My friend that got the prenatal massage was totally won over and loved her massage as much as I loved mine, even though she typically files massages under "eh, whatever". Our other friends had: spa pedicure - included foot/leg massage and she loved it, more rave reviews body scrub & facial - again, rave reviews. She walked out of there glowing. Even one of the guys that didn't know she'd had a facial commented later in the day how her skin looked glowy. full leg, bikini, & underarm wax - and again, she loved it. I moved to North Conway in 2012. I was very nervous leaving my previous stylist, but once I found Jeanette, I haven't looked back. She is awesome, works to find a cut and style that is flattering and still fresh, and has suggested some new ideas that were spot on. I am very comfortable with her (I have short hair so I see her every 6-8 weeks) and I have always had a great experience. She listens to my ideas and is open to trying new things, but not afraid to tell me if she thinks it's a bad idea. I came in and complained that my hair felt frizzy one time, and she cut it differently (without a razor) so that it behaves much differently. I never feel pressured to buy products, but I did ask for a recommendation one time for a gift, and it was perfect. The gift was for my Mom and she loved it, some kind of smoothing product that smells like cupcakes! You can really tell that Jeanette loves what she does, and I always leave feeling great. More importantly, she cuts my hair so that I feel great about it when I'm styling it myself! read more

I recently got married in North Conway but am not from that area and the Cut Off was wonderful and accommodating to an out of towner. I had about every service you can get- mani, pedi, buff and bronze, hair and make up and all were wonderful. They also did my mom and all my girls for a range of services. When I first went in for my trial hair do a couple months before the wedding I was concerned because if did not stay in place for very long so and when I called to ask about how it would be the day of they happily booked me in for another trial AT NO COST. My hair looked beautiful the day of the wedding and hardly moved an inch after a full night of dancing. My wedding was 2 weeks ago and my pedi still looks great! I can't say enough good things about the buff and bronze, it was the perfect glow for the day of my wedding without tanning-and they also did a complimentary touch up the day before the wedding (it does not last very long with showering so be sure to get it done no more than 2 days before, its best after just one shower). Be sure to book you and your girls with appointments in advance to make sure they can accommodate everyone, I don't think they do walk ins. I definitely recommend this salon to bridal parties- everyone was nice, professional and did great work. read more

I am not from the area but had my wedding in the area May 2015. My MOH and I got out hair and make up done here and the staff was AMAZING as were the results! They made us feel so comfortable, like we were sitting in the chair at our regular hair dressers. The price was completely reasonable as well. They had budgeted a two hour window for us but it probably took a little over an hour for the two of us. Job well done! read more

My husband LOVED his massage and clearly walked out very relaxed and feeling awesome, plus they were reasonably priced. I had 7 appointments booked for wedding hair and makeup this past weekend. An 8th person ended up coming along, and they were able to also accommodate her for hairstyling. We are all very pleased with how our styling turned out, and were overjoyed by the professionalism, kindness, conversation, and above and beyond service we received. My husband and I were in North Conway for a week and I decided that I desperately needed a hair cut. I had been growing out my hair for close to 2 years and I wanted to get a pretty dramatic amount of hair cut off. I chose The Cut Off after reading the positive reviews here. I went in on a Wednesday morning with no appointment and they were able to get me in the chair within 5 minutes. The salon and clean and pleasant and the woman behind the desk was very nice and accommodating. The woman who cut my hair, Kristen, was pleasant to work with and did a great job. She spent a good amount of time looking at my pictures and asking questions about what I wanted to get a good idea of where to go with it. Because I was getting such a dramatic cut, she was careful not to cut too short and to check in with me often about how I liked it. She spent over an hour carefully cutting my hair and styling it so I could see exactly what I was getting. The cut was perfect, it was exactly what I envisioned! The price was comparable to what I pay at my home salon and I was just as pleased with the service. I fully recommend this salon to anyone in the area, it was a treat getting my hair cut there! read more

Three stars are all for the stylists, they did a fantastic job on the bridal party I was in. The receptionist was rude while getting everyone settled and while dealing with people individually. They did not communicate effectively with the bride during the planning stages before the appointment so I recommend you get everything from them in writing before showing up. They set things up over the phone and had the wrong number of bridesmaids down for the appointment so they were short a stylist. The bride also did not have accurate quotes from the salon about the cost of service. We ended up paying way more than we had been told we would be which with tip drained me out for the weekend. Again, get a print agreement from them even if they have to physically send it in the mail to you. Double check the numbers they take down for individuals who will be in the wedding, what services they're getting, as well as price. read more

I chose the Cutoff Salon and Day Spa for all my wedding and pre-wedding salon appointments--hair & make-up trial, mani/pedicures with my mom and sister-in-law the day before, and hair and make-up with my bridesmaids the day of the wedding. Michelle did my hair and make-up as well as my mom's manicure/pedicure, and she was fabulous! In addition to being a talented hair stylist, she did a great job with my make-up. As someone who generally doesn't wear much make-up, I was apprehensive about my wedding day make-up, but Michelle did a great job of making me look like a princess but still feel like myself. The staff was always friendly and professional. On top of all their great service, they even managed to squeeze in an "extra" bridesmaid the morning of the wedding, despite having two other wedding parties there. I definitely recommend this salon! Sam was great, had a super pedicure with her. Jeanette did the worst and most expensive manicure I've ever had. Just changed my shellac polish and she was rushing so I never got the full service of what a $37 manicure should be. Spent my time after the appt removing the shellac from my skin, and she painted all over my cuticles so it's already starting to peel a few days later. The angering part is that I found out after the fact that there's an 'express shellac' and 'polish change shellac' that they offer....why I wasn't charged for only that if she was rushed? Good question. Maybe they're good with other services, but I won't be getting my nails done there again. read more

Out of all of the places I have gone for a pedicure, the Cut Off is the best. Michele is the best!! The rooms are very comfy, nice lighting, always some sort of cool music playing (80s or something like that, not spa music). The chairs are comfy, the water is always the right temp, and they have a very wide selection of nail colors to choose from. Michele is a pedicure goddess... My calves and tooties look and feel like a million dollars when she is done with them! My boyfriend also had his hair cut by her one time, and hands down, it was the best hair cut I'd seen him with (he usually just goes to a barber); he actually got his hair styled instead of just cut. I'll always go back here whenever I am up in the North Conway area and in need of a pedicure. OH! I almost forgot the best part - they also offer beer or wine while getting your toes done. This spa is just fantastic! The service is outstanding and the atmosphere very relaxing. A group of my friends booked a variety of services as part of a celebratory "girls" weekend and in addition to everything being just perfect, they were very accommodating for us. We even arrived late (due to INSANE traffic on White Mt Hwy) and they still were able to provide us all of our services. We had facials, massages, manis and pedis. My facial (with Samantha) was one of the best that I have ever had, and I generally get a facial every month. We were all very happy with our experience. HIGHLY recommend!! read more

Finding a new salon after a move can be really difficult, but I am so happy I stumbled upon The Cut Off! I have mobility issues, but their parking lot, easy entry and open set up made parking and moving around the salon very easy. Their staff are all super friendly and my stylist, Lori, did an amazing job. I'm already scheduled for my next cut and added a pedi as well!
