Looking for a unique place in the Winston-Salem area. Had heard King, NC had a nice steak house. When we got there, tried unsuccessfully to get seats at the bar. So, went across the street to The Dalton Bar And Grill! It was a home run. Sat at bar, which was attended by two well experienced bartenders. Started with the Poke Tuna appetizer with fried wontons. It was large enough to be a small entrée and the fried wontons were perfect. For dinner we split a skirt steak with asparagus. A little concerned it would be tender but melted in the mouth. The asparagus was HUGE but cooked perfect. I'm almost leery of posting this because I don't want a million people going to King. read more

This was my second visit to The Dalton Restaurant, and regrettably, it will likely be my last. My previous experience was underwhelming, but I decided to give the restaurant another opportunity in hopes that it had improved. Unfortunately, this visit fell even shorter of expectations. The food quality was particularly disappointing. The Cajun shrimp Alfredo was excessively heavy and resulted in immediate discomfort, lacking the balance and flavor one would expect from such a dish. The addition of bacon to the dish was a clear misstep, overwhelming the other flavors and contributing to an already overly rich and unbalanced meal. The croissants were equally unsatisfactory--dense, chewy, and overbaked, with a texture and taste suggesting they had not risen properly. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal was the side salad, which, while fresh, should not have been the most enjoyable component of the dining experience. Overall, I left feeling quite disappointed. Given that both of my visits have resulted in similarly negative experiences, I find it difficult to justify returning. read more

I came in with a friend for dinner. This place has a classy vibe right off the bat. It was packed but bustling and well organized. The service (Natalia) was awesome, as were the host staff. I ordered the poke tuna appetizer, and my friend declined to eat it, which is fine by me because it was delicious. Stacked layers of poke tuna and quaxamole with sriracha on the plate with somecrispy fried tortilla chips to scoop with. It was the best food I ate there. I also ordered a main street burger (douvle amash) and onion rings. Decent Burger, but just didn't have the thing that would have made it amazing. The onion rings were hard and bland. Meh My friend had some komd of fish, mashed potato and carrot which he said was pretty good. Overall, I'd come back and try something else. I'm told the chicken sandwich is good. read more

Good menu serving up different options from gourmet salads to steak dishes and burgers. I ordered a porter on draft and was pleased to see they offer good local beers like FIDDLE AND FISH. We got invited out to dinner by some friends who suggested this restaurant. They had been here several times, but this was our first experience. I like converted buildings and can't say what this was, but the inside was very charming. We were promptly seated at a table and were taken care of that evening by our server, Addison. Addison always checked in with us and was extremely friendly. I ordered The Bird, a pretty good chicken sandwich, and then a side salad, again, a pretty good salad. Love the small dining area and atmosphere. The service was good and the food was also good, but not outstanding. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked perfectly, but presentation lacked, being served upside down with the brown underbelly showing. Details matter! My husband had the chicken Parmesan and the chicken was a little overcooked and the pasta could have used more marinara. But he did love the garlic breadsticks! We've been watching and waiting for this gem to open. Located in downtown King! Love the restoration of this old building; such a comfortable atmosphere. Just a really cool, chill vibe. The place is clean and friendly staffed. The owner is super nice and down to earth, too. He made it a point to be seen and speak to his customers. I like that. Tonight, my husband and I made it a point to have a date night and try them out! I had the Buffalo Chicken Soup (chef's choice- soups change daily) SO good!! It was hot (temp hot, I hate warm soup) the chicken was tender with great flavor and the perfect amount of cheese. I also tried the Roasted Beet Salad with balsamic glaze. Very filling and very delicious. That Lavender Lemon Martini was on point, too! My husband had The Bird, a fried chicken sandwich with slaw and pickles. Very tasty and a great sized sandwich. Mashed potatoes on the side, he only wishes he had more! The potatoes were that good! He loved that they had Red Oak on tap. The service was great! They were friendly and helpful. The food was terrible. The tuna had a stored and preformed texture with mushy avocado. The salmon had no flavor and was hard and tasted like it was cooked one day and served the next. The rice definitely came out of the microwave with a rubbery texture, like a rice pack. The steak didn't seem to hit a pan and also had a cooked one day served the next texture and flavor. The food came out too quickly for anything to have been fresh. Our favorite tastes so far were the espresso martini and the crunchy salty French fries. Hubs ordered filet, and I got shrimp Alfredo. Can't wait to try them out for lunch! My only recommendation at this point would be maybe candles / dimmers to enhance the ambiance as the overheads were a little harsh and bright and didn't really fit the vibe (as another reviewer mentioned). We were delighted with our experience at The Dalton today. The welcoming ambience of well aged wood floors with blue leather seating set up for relative privacy created anticipation. All three of our party ordered filet mignon which was cooked to perfection for each of us. We also shared honey coated carrots (just the right touch of honey) and sautéed squash.(tasty; sliced thin but not mushy) One of our party, a self declared soup snob, gave the seafood chowder an "A". First visit. Very clean and bright, looked inviting right from the start. Our server, Addison, was very kind and helpful. We both ordered Bloody Marys while we looked over the menu. They looked pretty plain, none of the usual garnishes you usually see but they tasted great. For lunch, my wife had the fried seafood platter and I had chicken Parmesan. The food was good all around, but a few issues. Neither meal was especially hot, more between luke and medium warm. The chicken Parmesan was set on a very large bed of cavatelli with sauce. Very tasty but that was a LOT of pasta. I was thinking if they substituted maybe 1/4-1/3 of the plate to some sautéed broccoli or other vegetable it wouldn't be quite so heavy. Not a knock on the dish at all, just an observation. The seafood platter was very nice, shrimp and pieces of cod were delicious (my wife kindly let me sample it). Lastly, my wife decided to have a second Bloody Mary. Oddly, this came in a larger glass, with the garnishes we would have thought came with it-olives, lime wedge, etc. Also tasted great but the difference was puzzling, as even our server remarked that it was prettier than the prior one. All in all, a very pleasant experience and we'll be back again. Without the few issues I mentioned, this could easily have been a five star review. read more
