    Chicken caesar salad 4.5/5
    Dennis S.

This place definitely has a high ceiling but potential for a big drop. In the last year, I've had the prime rib 4x. First time, it was perfection. It declined with each time getting more and more fatty and I ended up spending most of my time chewing on gristle. Bacon cheese fries are a great appetizer, but would really like them to spread the cheese out better or add more. Otherwise it's just curly steak fries. The she crab soup was a big miss for me today. It was just a bowl of salt. Okay in flavor, but it was so salty. The chicken caesar salad, and the Cajun new Orleans pasta were the show stoppers. The portion for the price is better than anyone else nearby. If you like Kickback Jack's Cajun pasta, you'll love this even more. I ordered it extra spicy and it was superb Service is overall pretty good. We see a lot of the same people and that's a great sign. I know a lot of these people have been here for a long time. Overall go check them out! Would also recommend the chicken caesar on croissant and their beet salad!

    Blackened prime salad
    Is S.

Came in for a family dinner with friends and family. I've been here a few times and the food is usually somewhere between average and good. This time, it was average. I had their special, a blackened prime salad. Their prime rib is good, and this meat was tasty, but for one thing. Salty as anything. I love salt, but wow. They sprinkled the prime rib with some blackening seasoning and way over did it. It was a good salad, and the meat was fine other than that. My wife chose the philly cheesesteak because she has had it before and it's always great. This time, the meat was skimpy. My son's popcorn shrimp tasted ok, but they were a little rubbery. There were others at the table and I heard no other complaints. I guess Wednesday evening is Just not the night to be eating here.

    Burger and fries

What?!!! Sour beer and sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter too! The white potato fries are unique and really good. (He says) so...the shrimp and grits aren't my thing because the grits are fried and it's super cheesy, the sun dried tomatoes tasted nuked but I finished my plate for sure, scooped the grits out of that fried shell and didn't eat all the cheese. This place is packed early and I can tell a great local favorite. Tania was a perfect waitress. We will be back when hiking Hanging Rock again for sure.

    Half eaten Zucchini Fries

Stumbled across this local joint while attending a training seminar in the area. I was greeted by staff as I entered and sat quickly. They have a standard menu along with lunch specials. I decided to get the Bang Bang chicken tacos with zucchini fries. The presentation was nice and portion size was very good with the chicken filling the tacos. The tacos were very creamy loaded with the bang bang flavor. Definitely the best chicken tacos I've had. The zucchini fries were thick cut and dipped in ranch. They were crisp and not too greasy. Highly recommend this location. My waitress was super kind and checked on me often. If you are in the King area you should try this place! My meal was only $13 bucks!

    Shoe leather mystery meat

I wish I could give zero stars. We went tonight for my mom's birthday. She and I had the blackened prime rib salad. It was not prime rib. I feel almost certain that it was sirloin. I know my cuts of meat. What wasn't pure chucks of blackened fat was shoe leather. The pita square with mine had mold on it. The waitress was only concerned with explaining to me what prime rib is. The rolls (which you now have to specially request) were rocks and most definitely warmed over. We never got drink refills. This meal cost me $90 with tip (which I debated on leaving) for four people. If you look on Facebook, they have turned the reviews off. I can guess why. Do yourself a favor and go to the Merchantile or the Dalton instead of here. I'm now eating my air fryer Dino nuggets which are a much better meal.

My waiter was super nice and quick with me and my friends food and drink. The food is phenomenal. I've ate here multiple times and it never disappoints. I recommend investing in the boom boom chicken tacos

Took 1 1/2 hours to get our food, and it's like a freezer in here. So cold in here, yet, I still wanted ice in my drinks. Food pretty good tho, I frick with it.

HUGE FLOUNDER dinner and fried okra

YALL!!! I was craving fish and all of the fish places were closed while visiting in King. I saw the menu and thought, well, it's what I want so all I can do is try. I wasn't gonna be satisfied until I satisfied my craving. SO, I wasn't expecting much but honeyyyy....this founder was HUGE!!! I literally opened the box when I received it (curbside to go) and said "holy smokes!" Soooooo delicious too! Oh my goodness! I'm coming back when I visit my family in NC and I'm telling everyone! Talk about more bang for your buck! So amazing. Fried okra was yum. Pasta salad wasn't my favoriteee...but the star of the show was bomb so I could not complain!

So make sure you arrive a few minutes early for your reservation just for parking sake. The space, however, is beautiful inside. Very roomy and dark, romantic vibes. I also love the little fireplace along the long table in the front. Our service was also exceptional. Our waiter made great recommendations and was very accommodating. Isaac was a true gem. The food was really outstanding for a steakhouse in little ol King. We started with bread service but they served it with cold butter which we all know won't spread well. Easy enough fix. The pot roast nachos could have used more cheese, namely a melty cheese but the roast was cooked expertly. So tender and juicy. The rest of our group thought the calamari was overcooked but I didn't mind it. The crab dip was my favorite app, perfect in every way. My ribeye with Mac and cheese and collard greens was superb. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was creamy and the collards had a kick to it that I enjoyed. I liked the brownie dessert but it wasn't anything special. My blood orange margarita was also very good. Overall I highly recommend The Mercantile if you want to eat somewhere off the beaten path. I can't wait to bring my husband back for date night!

When we walked in for dinner it was crowded so we sat at the bar and ate our dinner. As it turned out this was the place to be. The bartender is quite good at his craft. It was fun to see him make and Old Fashioned with the fanfare of the smoked drink under glass. Then someone ordered a cherry Manhatten with a smokey bubble in the glass which popped when presented. I was impressed as I had never seen that technique before. I'm totally ordering again next time I come! Behind me was a long table and on top shooting flames enclosed in a long glass fireplace. Really quite a centerpiece with people dining around each side of it. I wanna bring my friends and sit in front of it, so cool! I ordered a petite filet that was tender and delicious, just the right size when you don't want a huge meal. I ordered a grilled romaine stock as a side. It was better than Ive had in the past. Lightly oiled and grilled not charred. I ordered a baked potato as my side to go w my filet. Quite pleased w my choices. The environment is cozy and the staff and guests are friendly. Next time I'm in King this is where Im going!

As it turns out, P B Clark's is a restaurant the likes of which you'll see in or near most small towns. Meat and 2 sides, lots of fish, somewhat worn interior, not super clean, wait staff who are regular people. I've seen it plenty of times and I generally like these places because they are predictable and serve good basic food. P B Clark's is no different. The girl who waited on us is young and has a sunny personality. Super nice and always available. We were also topped off by another nice girl, possibly another waitress or a food runner. I ordered the Friday special catfish with fries and hush puppies. I'm giving this review a 4-star because of the staff and the fish. Otherwise, it would be a three star. The catfish had a ton of flavor and needed nothing for a frozen, breaded, deep fried catfish filet. The hushpuppies were bland, the fries were slightly undercooked and needed salt. These folks know their business, they were spot on! We pulled a few tables together. Our server was extraordinarily patient as our group trickled in arriving in King from Winston-Salem. I think she was very much surprised when 10 out of the 12 us ordered hot dog plates. We started with an order of buffalo chips and they were very much enjoyed along with the ranch they were served with. I think we all enjoyed our hot dogs (mine with chili, mustard, and onions, was great). We had a variety of sides and people spoke highly of the fried okra, banana pudding, sweet potato casserole, and fries. I'd definitely return to P.B. Clarks!
