Lunch today at The Dam Grill was especially memorable and satisfying. It began with an experience that speaks to the true greatness of America. An elderly, mobility challenged couple parked at the front of the restaurant. The wait staff rushed out and assisted them to a table. Don and Barbara are regulars...I talked to them a bit on my way out. The care I saw happen there talks about the heart of America. It's not the politicians that make this country great...It's the people! It's service like this, that goes above and beyond. It's small, neighborly businesses where the customers become family. It's GOOD people that make this country great. ...And good food only makes it that much better! My meal choice for today was the large Chicken Fried Steak, with green beans, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, roll and sweet tea...your quintessential, thoroughly satisfying, Texas style comfort food. The steak portion was BIG! Big enough that I have AT LEAST one more fine meal coming from the leftovers. The mashed potatoes were smooth, drenched in a generous portion of delightful cream gravy. The DG style green beans are unique and were delicious. The roll was fresh and melt in your mouth good. As for the sweet tea... Well... Let's just say that it was just right! The smoke free restaurant is clean and spacious with plenty of seating. The friendly wait staff stays on the move attending to customer's cups of tea, coffee and sodas. The kitchen gets meals out quickly. The table bussers are meticulous and quiet. Outside, the parking lot has plenty of handicapped access spaces and free general parking galore...with lot's of room for rancher's truck's and trailers. I only have one complaint. In my book, breakfasts like theirs should be available all day long. LOL. Dang good stuff! Friday night is all you can eat catfish. When I want catfish, this is my goto. The fish is tender, succulent fillets and the beans and hush puppies are to die for. If You want a truly satisfying meal at a price that won't break your wallet, the The Dam Grill is right where you need to be. Just sayin'. read more

Always a quick low budget breakfast that satisfies my hunger before hitting the lake. TDG makes one of the best biscuits! The one egg breakfast is enough for me but I always add a side of sausage gravy, because why not. The staff is always friendly and on top of refilling coffee. We stop by here everything we hit up Lake Buchanan. They also have daily specials and when in season, they have crawfish! read more

Visted the Dam Grill on our way out of town on Sunday, after a long weekend at the lake. We were greeted by a grumpy hostess who informed us that it would take 45 minutes for us to get food and they were not server breakfast anymore (it was before 11am). Not sure what their policy is on timing, but it was disappointing and she genuinely seemed as if she just wanted us to leave. Once we got seated, our server was super nice. We did wait a while for our food, but she kept our drinks full and checked on us, etc. She was the highlight of our visit. The food was inconsistent. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and loved it, and my son had chicken fried steak and loved his as well. The fried okra was clearly frozen and fairly inedible. I had the club, which was pretty sad - cheap cold cuts with Velveeta cheese on bread that tasted like it was grilled in old grease. However, my onion rings were amazing. read more

One of our absolute favorite places to eat when we come out this way. Food is always fresh, well cooked and delicious. We have eaten here about 10 times and never had anything but wonderful food. I love fried okra and they have the best! read more

My Dad and I stayed in a cabin at Black Rock park over the weekend and he insisted on the Dam Grill for breakfast on Saturday. We went around 10am and were immediately seated. I got a coffee and he got sweet tea. To eat, I got the damn big burrito. It was decent sized and great value for the price. He got a breakfast combo that had everything! Eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and sausage...it was a huge plate! Both meals were really good and we left full and happy. Service was good and friendly. read more

Nice little restaurant. The food tasted good and the price wasn't too bad. The waitress was nice and made sure our drinks were full. The one thing I didn't care for was the hamburger buns were sweet and I do not like a sweet bun on my hamburger. It would be nice to have more than 12 fries with the burger. Ordered a side of fried okra and got approximately 14 little okra for the basket. Now you consider that with the price that was charged it was really expensive. I'm pretty sure french fries and okra are cheap enough to add an extra handful for the price being charged. read more

I got a spicy chili cheese burger & fries, down the to bun! What the heck was in that bun to make it so addicting!!! It found this gem and it was delish. I got the breakfast platter which had sausage, bacon, eggs, biscuit, pancake. Every item was delicious. My friend got the The Chop Plate and she really enjoyed the pork chop. She even stole some of my pancake because it was so good. We added sausage gravy- also delish. Highly recommend this place. This place is... not good. I don't understand all the high praise and strong reviews. Buchanan certainly isn't the bustling metropolis that is Dallas or Austin, but there just wasn't much going on at all. Service isn't special but the waitress was friendly, and the really awful part was how plain the food was. Everything was relatively cheap, but no one should order from the lunch/dinner menu and say what a great value they got. I ordered the chicken strip basket for about $8 or $9 and when it came I actually wondered if they gave me fish instead of chicken. While it looked unkind any chicken strip I had ever seen, the meat actually seemed fresh. The fries, however, were abysmal and likely were the worst fries I have ever had. Seriously, the most soggy, sad, and unappetizing french fries. I guess I would come here for breakfast as everyone raves about how good the meals are, but I probably wouldn't return under normal conditions. read more

Had a great lunch here. Large chicken fried steak meal was enough for two people and the price was great. All of the food was excellent. The service was excellent. The people are so friendly.
