Hate to do this this but my last haircut with Vaughn was unacceptable…read more I had medium/long length hair and was initially just going to trim the sides but that did not go as planned. Instead of giving me a mid fade, Vaughn gave me a high fade. This created a big disconnect with my hair up top. To try and make the best of the already bad situation, I told him to just cut the top short and showed him a picture for reference (see image below). He went way too short and it looked nothing like what I asked for. It was so bad that I had to come back the next day and ask him to just buzz the top, because it was better to start of with a clean slate at this point. Seeing my disappointment and knowing that he did not give me the haircut I wanted, Vaughn did not hesitate to still charge me full price. I still gave him a $5 tip as well, but just seems like a waste of $35 for a haircut I could have given myself. He was nice overall though and the first haircut he gave me was okay, so I guess that earns him 2 stars. I will not be coming back though.

Once I grew my hair back out, I started trying local barbershops, but none really stood out. Then I found Warhair in Burbank. I called first, and Rod was really helpful. He recommended Rudy, who he mentioned was newer to the shop but very experienced, with great availability throughout the week. I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. The shop itself has a great vibe -- very modern and clean, but still offers old-school barbershop touches like hot towel and straight razor services. What really impressed me, though, was Rudy's attention to detail. He actually looked at my head shape and explained that leaving the back a little longer would help balance out my flat head. No barber had ever pointed that out or given me that kind of thoughtful advice before. On another visit, I mentioned I was thinking about growing the top out and slicking it back. Rudy explained that going a different direction would make my hair look fuller, then took the time to style it so we could actually see what looked best.
