Hate to do this this but my last haircut with Vaughn was unacceptable. I had medium/long length hair and was initially just going to trim the sides but that did not go as planned. Instead of giving me a mid fade, Vaughn gave me a high fade. This created a big disconnect with my hair up top. To try and make the best of the already bad situation, I told him to just cut the top short and showed him a picture for reference (see image below). He went way too short and it looked nothing like what I asked for. It was so bad that I had to come back the next day and ask him to just buzz the top, because it was better to start of with a clean slate at this point. Seeing my disappointment and knowing that he did not give me the haircut I wanted, Vaughn did not hesitate to still charge me full price. I still gave him a $5 tip as well, but just seems like a waste of $35 for a haircut I could have given myself. He was nice overall though and the first haircut he gave me was okay, so I guess that earns him 2 stars. I will not be coming back though. read more

I thought I was going to leave happy but after giving the barber a 100 which the cut & beard trim was 35, I gave him a 20 bill for a tip and was supposed to get 45 back but only got 35 back and didn't check my change until I was already driving. It was my bad for not checking my change but it's entirely his fault for not giving right change. They did a good job but I was jipped 10 dollars. I won't return. read more

The owner, Vaughn is an every-man, a motorcycle enthusiast and a weekend warrior. Vaughn is a guy who'll give you a no frills mens cut that is often imitated at places like Floyd's and other "boutique" guys shops that have popped up in recent years. His team and shop are the same. Old school chairs, TVs for news and sports, magazines lining the tables, and even water and beer for those who ask. His prices are fair, and if you go during the spring, you can pick up boxes of girl scout cookies! I'll never get my cut at any other shop. read more

I took my son to Rudy's today after researching so many salons and barber shop reviews. I am so glad we found this place! James took care of my son and was amazing! He took his time, so gentle and listened to what I asked for. He used so many techniques to make it perfect. It was NOT the usual buzz, clip clip and go like we have experienced at many other places. my son was a little nervous at first and in no time they were chatting away about dinosaurs, math and video games. It was $25 plus tip so $35 out the door which is comparable to other places but actually get a nice cut for the price. BTW it is cash only and I did notice an ATM machine inside. There were 3 barbers there while I was there and all 3 were super friendly. I totally felt comfortable. Also they do women's hair if it's just a one length cut or a short cut. A woman was getting the coolest cut while I was there. Very short buzz on sides and longer on top. Everyone was wearing masks and front door was open allowing air flow. Vaughn Vaughn Vaughn!!! This barber has been cutting hair for over 30 some odd years and truly knows how to use a straight razor! This barbershop has truly amazing barbers! They are hilarious and can hold conversations well about sports, hilarious news stories, and practically anything! I had a great experience with the barber Vaughn! He is a dogtown skater who has cut hair his entire life and knows what he is doing! My haircut is a typical comb over but I do have extremely wavy hair that he was able to cut without any issues. He knows how to line your hair up so you don't walk out scaring people. At the end of your haircut you get a warm cloth around your neck and he uses shaving cream around the back of your neck to make it line up with perfection by straight razor. I will definitely be back to this old school type of barbershop because these barbers all know how to cut hair! You will definitely not regret it! FYI: 1. You Do Need An Appointment 2. I had the pleasure of meeting up with Will, who carefully listened to what I wanted, and hooked me up with clean, straight lined, men's cut. It was $15.00, and when I walked out, there were fine ladies who literally gave me a double take while I walked to my car. LIKE A BOSS! It's probably good to make an appointment, because everyone knows this place rocks and there may only be a few guys working at a time. If you're sick and tired of the $8-10 Armenian run places, then this is the place to go. Rudy's is a cool Barbershop to say the least. I'd say the vibe when you go into the place is that of a throwback. There were old boxing pictures up and the walls and magazines for you to read. All the guys (the barbers) seemed pretty laid back and personable. Vaughn, who is the owner, cut my hair and did an awesome job. It was a quick cut and he even did the old school shave with a razor blade. Which I have not seen done in any of the chain shops I've been to. At $15 you definitely won't find much better. DISCLAIMER: I'm do not in any way intend any type of racism with the following remarks... BUT: One thing that was huge for me was that all the barbers that were working that day spoke clear English. I'm rather particular about my hair and sometimes get into specifics, which is hard to do when there are language barriers between you and a barber/stylist. I'm not one of those people but my gosh this was the best haircut I've had in my entire life. They trimmed up my beard and gave me a full haircut for just $23. MAKE SURE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT! I was lucky to get in as a walk-in but I heard them turn down 3 guys while I was there because they were booked for the rest of the day. awesome little barber shop that's just around the corner from Porto's. i decided to give the place a try since i had been growing out my hair and it was looking pretty unkempt. upon walking in, there were about four barbers and you immediately notice the old school feel of the place with boxing gloves, vintage photos, and even a shaving cream warmer and display cases with old school hair products. luckily, i was able to grab a seat with Von since his previous appointment was running late. they do take walk-ins, but u might end up waiting a bit so i'd highly suggest an appointment. Von gave me a great medium fade (you can choose what kind of fade you want whether it's low/med/high fade) with a clipper on the lower portion and he used scissors for the top fade, which is something i'm not used to but it gave my haircut a more natural look rather than having all of the fade buzzed off with clippers. after the fade was complete, Von used warm shaving cream and a straight razor to trim up the sides and back. he also used a big shaving brush thing to dust off any loose cut hair to clean up the haircut. the barbers seemed very laid back and joked around with each other as they cut their customer's hair. they even have a little fridge stocked with drinks/beers and food, which are donated by customers it seems and are available to patrons for free. i also felt like there were a lot of regulars that walked into the shop and i could see why...great cuts with an old school touch. a typical haircut will cost you $20 cash (no credit cards), but it's definitely worth it compared to cheaper cuts that lack attention to detail. highly would recommend this spot if you're in need of a great cut and don't know where to go to. this will definitely be one of my new regular spots for cuts. read more

I've been going here for over 30 years! I remember the original owner Rudy - great guy, great environment, great prices and great haircuts - and the place hasn't changed a bit. Vaughn (Rudy's son) took over the business many years ago and has fought to keep it the same high quality, friendly and fun place it's always been. The one thing that has changed is that they continue to update their style focus. I see people (women too!) from their teens to their 80's going here - because they deliver exactly what you want and they do it very, very well. I've never had a problem getting an appointment. I've never been unhappy with a single haircut (in all those years!) and I've never been happy going anywhere else - especially those corporate, assembly-line places. Hands down. Rudy's is an "old school" men's barbershop. It even has a swirling candy cane outside. Vaughn and Sal are the barbers (Vaughn owns the place). Sal seems to cater to the older customers. I have my hair cut by Vaughn, and he'll do it exactly how you like it, and have you out of there within 20 minutes. This includes shaving the neck and sideburns with hot shaving cream. If you're looking for a quick, economical, and competent haircut, and don't like patronizing the big chain barbershops, then give Rudy's a shot. read more

I've been getting my cut from Eli for the past 2 years. Moved from Burbank to Newport Beach a 1 1/2 year ago but still haven't found/trusted anyone who can clean/fade/taper like Eli!
