The supervisor and technician arrived exactly on time and were knowledgeable, safe, thorough and provided good site cleanup. After a brief overview of expectations based on the scope of work they started trimming a very large silver maple. Part of the reason for choosing Davey is their use of a bucket. It allows for safe access to all parts of the tree. Due to their busy schedule it took a couple months to get the work done but we were not in a hurry. We found them to be competitive when one considers their expertise and experience and equipment and indemnity and insurance coverage. Office personnel were a pleasure to call. read more

As a long time customer I was extremely disappointed in the fall pruning. They trimmed the branched but just left them hung up in the tree to let winter and weather bring the down. Picked up many 4 to 5 foot branches with cut ends as well as many smaller branches. in all about two yard waste bags. We thought it had Dutch elm but after more assessment from Davey, determined it may have been under stress from recent construction. Alex walked us through options and quoted us well. davey took down half of a huge old cottonwood that belongs to my back neighbor, but was overhanging my property and the property next door. came on time, finished in a day, and cleaned up like i couldn't believe! looks cleaner than it did before they came. very pleasant and personable workers, as well. would highly recommend. read more

Initially responsive during the sales process, when it came time to fulfill the services our account representative was unresponsive and ignored emails and phone calls for weeks. Eventually we were told they were unable to plant a tree due to low "quality stock", after we had reached out several times to check on its status. read more

We have a middle-aged crabapple tree that was clearly in distress. They diagnosed it with rust and apple scab. I was afraid it was going to die - it was in bad shape. They told us about the treatment needed which involved spraying the tree on three separate occasions in the spring. They would only do it if we fully covered the koi pond beneath the tree because it could harm the fish. The treatments were applied, and the tree has completely turned around. It was full of leaves and crabapples this summer. I've never seen it look so beautiful. Davey Tree has been attending to all of our trees over the last several years. They are knowledgeable, professional and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them. read more

Contracted them to clean out a massive locust tree in our front yard. When Sean came out to look at the trees, he noticed magnolia scale on our very mature tree 60 year old tree, and suggested a soil drench to save the tree. I hadn't even noticed it till he pointed it out, so I told them to do the drench and they were here within a few days. I told other friends who have magnolias about the scale and one of them has already had them come to her property to take care of hers.I live on a pretty busy street so I was a little concerned about passing cars as well as their safety during the trimming of the locust, but there was no need to be. They were very safety conscientious and professional. They consulted with me as to how much I wanted removed, and complied while keeping in mind the health of the tree as to not stress it out. The climber, Alex, was unbelievable, while maintaining proper safety precautions while "out on a limb" or two!! They did an awesome job of cleaning up. I have a lot of mature landscaping in the area of this tree and nothing was damaged by falling limbs and trimmings....however, my shade garden may have to be adjusted with the additional sunlight this trimming provided. We moved into our home about 9 months ago and this is our first spring season in our new house. We have several trees in our backyard that need trimming, one tree that is dead and needs to be removed, several large branches that have cracked off and fallen onto the ground, and additional work that needs to be completed. Not a small job in other words. We contacted Davey about one and half months ago for an estimate and an arborist came out, reviewed the work and said that they are about 5 weeks behind, but the work would be done in about that time. For several days we did not hear anything back from Davey in the form of a proposal. My husband contacted the arborist and did not receive any sort of response. Finally, after several days the proposal arrived via regular mail. My husband signed and dated it, and mailed it back. Again, no response from Davey. My husband contacted them, and days later, the arborist told us that they never received our signed proposal. At that time, my husband requested and received a PDF of the proposal. Why not email it to begin with and save time? That was about 2 weeks ago. After they received it, again no response in terms of when they would actually come out and complete the job. This past Monday I called and spoke to a receptionist and asked her to give us some kind of time frame for the job. She said she would have to contact our arborist and call back. Again, no response after that. So, the next day I decided to call again. I explained that one of the trees that needs to be trimmed is over our house and we really need to get this done so we do not have any damage to our house. She could not guarantee a start date and told me they are 3 weeks out. So, that would be a total of almost 2 months to start the job since our initial meeting with the arborist! I ended up cancelling the entire service. Within the hour, I had contacted 4 other very well reviewed tree service companies in the area who can do the work within a week. One of them already gave us an estimate yesterday and they are even more reasonable than Davey. Others are coming out this week, and we should have our job done within the next week, week and half. Davey provides poor communication if any, and zero customer service. They obviously do not have enough crews to complete jobs in a timely fashion. After speaking to other tree service companies I was told that they actually double up their crews during this time of year to better service their clients. This is why our job now will be done much faster. Sorry, but I would rather give my business to a company that does not act as though they are doing us a favor and we have to beg them to give them our money. read more

I have had the exact opposite of the Zara K. reviewer re: customer service. Bill M. has been fantastic in returning phone calls and scheduling. Out of the 10 arborists I've contacted regarding our tree removal/pruning, Bill is the only one to follow up via phone after he viewed the trees. When you are a new homeowner in a new place (Lombard, Illinois) it's always a challenge finding good services such as electricians, plumbers, painters and landscapers. In our case we took a chance on one of the more established landscapers in the area, Davey Tree Expert Company. My mistake for not shopping around for better services - I should have checked references and perhaps interviewed a couple of vendors at least...but in my defense I thought the work we needed done would be really straight forward (hedgerow stump removal/ grinding, plant a tree, and mulch in the fence line). Here is what went wrong - the work was delayed for several weeks and when they finally came it had been raining so the yard was wet and consequently, they left my driveway a complete muddy mess requiring me to sweep and hose off the mud and rubble. Also, they failed to remove several stumps which I had to hack out with an ax and shovel, they broke walkway tiles (which to their credit they replaced 3 weeks later), they did a terrible job distributing the mulch and failed to bring enough so they had to return and left my driveway a mess again. The biggest issue was the stump grinding device - when they fired it up and started grinding out the stumps it fired rocks at my house narrowly missing windows...I ran over and stopped them and they redirected the device. In summary - the price for this work was really ridicules and well below standard, bordering on dangerous (and would likely had been much worse had I not kept an eye on them). I had to pick rocks out of my lawn for two weeks after they left. Please take my advice - check references and interview multiple vendors before you hire anyone. It might be worth it to wait until the high quality landscaper you want is available. I hope you fare better than I did! read more

Art is knowledgable, responsive and prompt. We have referred Art and Care of Trees to many of our neighbors and everyone has been very pleased with their services. I called these so-called experts to prune some dead branches from my trees. I asked that they call before coming so that I could be on hand to be sure they only cut what I needed pruned out of the trees. Waited and waited - no call. They're busy. Then showed up (NO CALL) while i was at work and had a field day pruning healthy branches. The higher up dead branches that I wanted cut were left alone. I've tried very hard to get passed this, but they continue to solicit me even though I've asked them not to. This is harassment! I used them once and will never use them again! The dead limbs are finally being taken care of gradually by storms. My opinion - Your money will be better spent hiring "REAL" Tree Experts that know the difference between dead and live branches and care to do as instructed instead of cutting as much as they can for free mulch and a big price tag for a shitty job poorly done! ! read more

If I could give them a negative star rating, I would. We started out well enough and the guy who came out to do our estimate was really nice. Once the estimate was in place, we heard nothing from them for about a month. I called to see why we didn't hear from them and I was given this vague excuse that they scheduled jobs on Thursdays. I did get an email about a week ago that they might come out because they had a cancellation but they didn't show up and I never heard back from them. Is it really so hard to respect your customers time and let them know what is going on? If so, you should not be in business. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. After paying in full and our credit card was charged, our 'arborist' was not reachable for 10 days. Multiple calls to the office, emails, etc. went fully unanswered. Not even a 'thank you' or 'go jump off a cliff.' They haven't even done the work but even if it is outstanding I would not recommend. read more

Residential Customers are their lowest priority. I contracted to have a tree cut down 6 weeks ago and was told they would have it done in about two weeks. I put a 50% deposit down, never received a receipt, and was never contacted again. After contacting them a week ago they never returned my call. Further contacts finally got us an answer that it would be 3 or more weeks before they would get to us because of the storm damage. I guess existing customers deserve immediate attention and they will get to new customers when they get a chance. Their office doesn't know what is going on and must contact the arborists in the field to get any answers. This is no way to run a business. read more

When we called for an arborist to come consult, they were the most responsive. We really liked that efficiency and decided to use their services to prune a big oak tree in our yard. We were happy with everything until spring came along and there were still numerous dead branches. When we called to follow up they said it was not their problem and we would need to pay for pruning services again. We should've gotten a discount or something to fix their original job. They advertise they will meet your needs and leave the place nice and clean. We ask them to pull out 170' of old bushes. We were told they not gonna touch wire fance. So whatever groved into dance would stay there but they will cut roots. They not only did not removed roots from under the fance. They left what was closer than 6-7 ". Than they used stomp grinder instead of pulling bushes out with roots. Bottom line is they did not clean all debris and ground was very uneven. Like a few bombs got dropped there. We've had great service from The Care of Trees for many years. We were about to lose a huge very old oak about 10 years ago but the company came in and saved that tree for us with a feeding program. I really believe in the services they offer so we have them feed the trees once a year because our yard is important to us. I find Bill enormously responsive and knowledgeable. read more
