Decided to order just over $1000 of Trex lighting products from these guys online. Their website was good and I found everything I needed. They were all pretty common items so I was happy to see they all showed "in stock" on the website. Their website also stated "most orders ship the same day". I figured they have the item in stock should ship in a day or two and get here in plenty of time. I completed the order and my card was immediately. 3 days later no tracking info or communication. Reached out to customer service and stated I needed these products ASAP and if they weren't in stock I would need to cancel. I received a reply of simply "your order has been cancelled" No explanation or even an apology. Very shady practices in my book. If items are not in stock their website should clearly state that. They pretending to be something they are not. read more

TL;DR - I had a good experience and highly recommend this store. I came across The Deck Store after scouring the internet for the cheapest prices for a deck railing. I had already checked with my local lumber store, Decks Direct and the like but found that the RailFX railing I was set on was significantly cheaper at The Deck Store. I had never heard of this store and would be ordering several thousand dollars worth of railing online so I gave them a call to verify it was a legitimate business. I spoke with Jeremy who was very helpful and even offered to double check my plans to ensure I was ordering all the right parts. He explained that the company actually has two websites at the moment- thedeckstoreusa.com which is a secondary website to thedeckstoreonline.com. At the time of writing this thedeckstoreusa.com had a 10% off offer so I decided to place my order through that site. All of the parts for my project arrived at my house in Seattle within the quoted delivery window in good condition and I am pleased with how the railing is turning out. If I need any other materials for my deck project I would not hesitate to order from this company again. read more

I would say that the deck store in Apple Valley MN has great product, but their service related to material shipped and a complete quote was lacking. They designed us a very elaborate nice deck. The price they quoted, you would think would be complete with everything necessary to do the job. It did not. The price did not include all of the joist hangers - 28 short, did not include the 2 x 4's that were needed. Some other items were missing too, but will leave it at that. Bob the owner does know his stuff, but talks really fast and is hard to follow, and when you ask questions about how to do something, he either prints out a document or drawing that is hard to follow or draws a pencil drawing that he doesn't take the time to make sure you understand. The product is great, but if you are bidding a deck out to a few suppliers make sure that The Deck store is complete, or you will not be comparing apples to apples - Good Luck with your deck build! read more

Before I posted this review I looked back to see if maybe it was a bad day for "Bob" or if other customers had similar experiences. Check out the review from 2013. Arrogance is the perfect way to describe him. Brian and I went to the Deck Store yesterday to see about replacing our deck rail. We were immediately met by a sales associate who directs us in the direction of rails available. I had my deck plan drawn out with what materials I would need so I thought it would be an easy process picking out which system we wanted. I'm not sure if our sales rep was having a bad day or just had no desire to work with a gay couple. Every question we had was returned with a "I don't understand" or "I don't know what your talking a about". It was more about his negative tone and his way of making you feel almost stupid for not knowing the "industry" terminology. His condescending tone was quickly working on me. Brian watched on as this associate kept correcting me with the proper verbiage or acting like he didn't know what I was talking about. After being made out to feel stupid we had to get out of this toxic place. As we were leaving I hear our associate yell out to someone else "I am the owner". Which made it even more unbelievable that the actual owner speaks to his prospective customer. Not a smart way to run a business especially in a down-economy where every sale counts. I ordered over $15k in decking materials from this store. The customer service was irritated when I needed help with the shipping logistics. I pre-ordered the stock considering supply chain issues and it was impossible to complete installation within the 90-day order window. I made several requests to return $1200 worth of stock and they flat-out refused (in a condescending tone like it was my problem) with no justification why they would accept even with a restock fee. Avoid The Deck Store Online store at all costs. The customer service staff is clueless about the products...my guess the staff is just one of the kids of an owner because they are not very helpful, but they needed a job! Products not as described, restocking fees, you have to pay for return shipping and the initial "free shipping" fee if they screw-up! I'm with an earlier commenter...go to another store or order online at the major hardware retailer and do store pick-up. Read this before you order! If I had to do it over I would have ordered from Decks Direct. Called Deckstoreonline to make sure I had gotten everything necessary to install Vertacable by Westbury the answer was yes. The posts did not come with the assembly. Even though the picture on there website show the posts come with it. Next if you order the 8' piece know that the top piece is at least two inches longer than the bottom so if your are doing wall mount or post mount (not crossover) you have to cut the top rail to length. Lastly the post skirt/flairs come assembled and there is no directions to open them! I called Deckstoreonline and they had no clue as how to open the post skirt/flairs!!! read more

Had Bob & his subs design & build our deck (which we love) many years ago, just recently I noticed the under deck support beams (2x10's) had started to deteriorate in a number of areas. Needless to say, I headed to the Deck Store to raise caine...... totally unprepared, I didn't remember the age of the deck, I failed to bring pictures with me. Bob was summoned from his office, & in a very warm & professional manner explained warranties on products & workmanship. He then scoured archives until he found when our deck was built. Now knowing he was in NO way libel for our deteriorating damages, he still scanned the net @ great length, found our original plans/contract and printed that out for me. Now, he found a pic of the dumpster & material pile in our drive & blew up the photo to show manufacturer's tag (for warranty info) & a pic of our deck under construction & more tags stapled to the lumber. He then scanned the internet & found the ever changing co. warranty for the lumber used. He printed all this out for me & educated me on the "lumber business" in this country. Bob went way out of his way to help & enlighten me. I wish all contractors were as honest & helpful. read more

What would you do as a consumer of this store? Monday June 24th, my contractor for this installation, calls the store and speaks to the "Owner" Bob and provides him with the dimensions and what we need to install the railings. My contractor then contacts me to go into the store on Tuesday to pay for the product Tuesday June 25th, I enter the store first thing in the morning to pay for the order that was placed on June 24th via my contractor and I request to have all product to be delivered Friday morning. I was told that ALL product should be here by Friday and they will try to deliver it Friday morning. I specifically stated that my contractor is coming in from out of town (3 1/2 hour drive) to install the railing and we wanted to install the railing over the weekend. Wednesday June 26th, NO COMMUNICATION Thursday June 27th, NO COMMUNICATION Friday June 28th, it is roughly 4:00 PM and I have not seen nor heard from "Owner" Bob about delivery or product. I then call the store to see when they are going to deliver the product since they close at 5:30. The customer service representative says, we can put it in the pick-up and bring it on down. The delivery men then arrive and stack the product onto our deck without saying anything. They then finish placing the product on our deck and then as they are leaving they then tell me that we are short 3 posts and they are backordered for another 7-10 days. I then call the store and speak to a customer service representative and ask when anyone was going to tell me that it was going to be 7-10 days before the entire product showed up. I then requested for the delivery guys to come back and take the product back because I did not want the product in my possession until it was all in. I didn't want responsibility of the product if something were to happen weather wise and if the product was on backorder if it would be longer then 7-10 days. Within 10 minutes of hanging up, I receive a call from "Owner" Bob complaining about me wanting to return the product. I specifically asked him when he was going to tell me that the 3 posts would be backordered for 7-10 days. He had no answer but then stated that I ordered this product "Last Second" (Ordered on Monday) and that this system was the "Hottest Product" in town. I continued to ask the question of when he was going to tell me about the backorder. He could not answer, therefore I stated that I want to return it all and I will take my business somewhere else. The delivery guys come back to pick up the product and I ask for a credit receipt. They then tell me that they have to have all product accounted for before I get a credit receipt. Therefore, I would have to go into the store on Saturday to get it. Saturday June 29th, my contractor and I enter the store roughly around 9:30 AM and as we enter the store, "Owner" Bob asks us what he can do for us; I stated that I would like to have my credit receipt for the returned product. Bob then stands behind the counter and then he begins to verbally insult me by calling me a Big Baby and to Grow Up and to Shut The F UP. As he makes these derogatory statements, I then continue to ask him when he was going to tell me when the posts were going to be backordered for 7-10 days. He would not answer and continued his verbal insults and putting blame on us. He then states that the posts were going to be coming in Monday, July 1st. I then asked him why neither his delivery guys, customer service representative, nor he tell me that over the phone. I kept on saying that he had 3 days to communicate with me that the posts wouldn't be delivered. Saturday July 6th, Now that I have written reviews of his company and service, "Owner" Bob has decided to try to state that I am a "bad customer? by posting surveillance video with NO AUDIO from my visit to receive my credit receipt. He has since stated on here that the product was coming in 4-5 days later. When was the product coming in? A. On Friday, in time for deliver B. 7-10 days later C. On Monday, after the requested time D. 4-5 days later As you can see, "Owner" Bob had multiple days and times to communicate with me of what was happening with the railing system and failed to do so. read more

Nine months later Bob continues to smear the customer by placing the surveillance video in a email . In 24 years as a contractor I have never been so rudely treated as I was that Saturday in The Deck Store in Apple Valley, MN. As a contractor I deal with suppliers and customers everyday. I would never do business with some one that would use profanity and degrading language in greeting a customer in the store like Bob did that Saturday. By doing this it should tell you about the professional tact Bob displays and the type of customer service he gives . In our quest to get a railing system that would work. We talked to many different suppliers ,the common theme was this is who Bob Is. Even had one supplier say Bob was 'good for his business' since so many have been tuned off by his rude and arrogant behavior . We found two companies that we had wonderful experiences with and would recommend to anyone. You have to ask yourself would you want to do business with a Owner of a business that would treat the customer like Bob has in these reviews. read more

remely frustrated about this whole process. First I order months ago for one cap to show my customers who really liked the item but wanted to see it up close and am forgotten about, until weeks late when I complained it took only 2 day to Make and send. Yet no where to be found a month later I checked the address is correct but yet no product. I think I was just discarded because I only ordered one. So I have officially given up on this company and am asking for a refund...for an item I never recved and now we have customers canceling work because it has taken too long..for just the example...good grief.UPDATE...I just found that on top of all that somebody cancelled my order altogether and no one knows why...wow what an organized company...arg...so they gave me a refund and offered nothing else said it was the shippers fault and then had the nerve to ask me to take this down...wow if I ran my business this way I would be out of business in a heartbeat. read more

This is the way all stores should operate. Beautiful showroom with displays on how to and how not to perform aspects of a deck install. Staff and owner have an amazing amount of knowledge. I.e no wondering aimlessly up and down big box isles. The best part is the lumber yard. Amazing quality with non toxic lumber. No picking through pallets of warped junk. They even have their products in stock, offer low cost delivery and free CAD drawings if you purchase material through them. In just a short visit, I learned so much. No sales pressure what so ever and they break up your project into phases so they can better provide help and guidance for the given phase. My wife and I were literally blown away by the quality of service. The best part was the friendly black lab that keeps an eye on the place. If you have a deck or other outdoor construction project, come here first. The prices are on par with big box as well. read more

Terrible customer service. I placed an order for two post caps, which I urgently needed to complete a landscape project, prior to an event being held at our home. I was told by the customer service rep when placing the order that they would ship out that day, Monday, 5/2 and I should have them by the end of the week. I called this morning 5/9, as I had still not received the caps. The young woman I spoke with initially was sweet, but new at her job and handed me over to a man (not sure if that was Bob). He told me that there had been an address mixup and the caps were back in Minneapolis and being shipped again. He was abrupt and totally unsympathetic to my situation. He did not even just say "Im sorry." His attitude was that there was nothing he could do about it. I finally just got an email from The Deck Store with the tracking information for the post caps, which should have been sent to me a week ago when I placed the order. read more

Worst experience I have ever had. I would not recommend anyone dealing with the owner, I started a small project and as a building owner and contractor I was going there to start a relationship and work on getting several decks taken care of by them. I was never talked to in such a manner as I was by the owner, a disrespectful, condescending, and truly poor customer service oriented individual who will never command my respect or business. As I have found out I am not the only that has dealt with him and his business. He will waste your time, not have the product he says he does so he can get you in the store, then when there may be a potential issue he will try to find reason to blame a customer - I dont know how a person could run a business like that. The 20,000 we were spending on the first two decks and rail systems will definitely be spent elsewhere along with a ALL future business.
