Fantastic experience with friendly staff, awesome atmosphere & wonderful macchiato. I actually was headed to the coffee shop down the street since Delaware didn't show up on my Yelp search for a local coffee shop while I was visiting the area. I noticed the neon open sign, 'coffee' sign and the classic black and white paint motif.

Lots of windows and plenty of places to sit. It's so inviting. The perfect spot to enjoy a truly tasty latte.

Every town we visit, I always seek out local coffee shops. On this visit to Independence, MO, we came across The Delaware on Google maps. There aren't very many coffee shops in Independence to begin with. This coffee shop and event space is one of the few gems in town. It's unexpected and has a fresh, natural, sun-drenched vibe to it. The event space is great and the bride's lounge where we sat and enjoyed our coffee is cozy and inviting. Drew makes a mean latte that is delicious. He's also super fun to talk to. I've been to trendy coffee shops in the U.S. and overseas that have terrible coffee. The Delaware has both style and substance. We'll definitely be back the next time we stay in Independence.

Sweet little spot in Independence, the vibe is great for study or work on your computer. Coffee and pastries were delicious. We will definitely visit again and bring friends next time!

After seeing the halo in place of the dot above the "i" in their logo, things started to click. Do not let the religious aspect prevent you from staying here, though. Aside from a non-denominational prayer on the pillow, there was really nothing else religious about this place. In fact, what this place most resembles is a re-vamped college dorm. The layout is almost exactly like one of the dorms I lived in years and years ago. From the room itself to the hallways to the common areas - it's a dorm that wants to be a bed & breakfast. The entire hotel was welcoming and pristine. Bonus points for satellite TV. Decent bathroom. Very nice yard area (though, while I was here it was covered in snow). The best part, though - and, let's face it, when it comes down to it, this is the part that counts the most - was the bed. It was a fabulously comfy and warm bed. Soft, yet firm. Big, fluffy down comforter. Four extra-large pillows. It was one of my best hotel bed experiences.

Upstairs I witnessed "Faces After Suicide" a very powerful exhibit from Lindsey Doolittle featuring drawings from her suicide survivors support group. I was able to chat with her and gain a deeper understanding of all the emotions that a suicide survivor must endure. A conversation that I'll always remember. Thank you Lindsey and Englewood Arts for this exhibit. And of course the gift shop is right on the way out the door and has a great selection with very reasonable prices. I secured a glass heart for my wife's upcoming birthday. I will return for all future exhibits and it will definitely be a place to pick up some local art for Christmas gifts this year.

Little did I known that later that day I would be a victim in an armed robbery when I took my 71 year old father-in-law to get a carton of cigarettes at the Stop N Shop off 291 & 24 highways. We walked out of the store and out of the corner of my eye, I saw that my father-in-law had been grabbed and was being held at gunpoint, being accosted and robbed... I turned to help, but was shot. Life changes. I paid in full that day to reserve the Cotillion Hall for Dec 14, 2013. Due to the extenuating circumstances, I contacted the Cotillion owners on November 18 to notify them of our desire to cancel the venue as my son and his fiancé had decided to wait regarding definite plans until we have recovered. The owner responded that she was 'sorry about my luck but we won't refund your money because we don't have it - because we had bills to pay.' What's this world coming to? A young couple wants to celebrate their marriage with their family present for the event. If this business - a business set up to provide a venue for life events - is so hard up that they cannot even afford to show compassion, they should get out - and certainly not burden families/clients with stories of their financial problems. It looks as though I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Ruined Our Wedding!!…read more My wife and I got married on September 28, 2024, and we wish we had taken our money elsewhere. Russ will sweet talk you into choosing this place. Yes, it's nice and can be breathtaking, but the problem lies within the customer service on the day of the wedding. We had family and friends come from out of town to attend our wedding, some of whom had never been to Kansas City before, which made us feel very special. The night before the wedding, Russ called and informed my wife that we were over our guest list limit and needed to make an additional list of the people we really wanted to attend. My wife was up all night crying out of frustration because this was very last minute, and some people were going to be upset. The wedding day was a horrible experience! First, Russ's assistant (whose name I can't remember) was the worst! She's black. I believe she's racist against her own kind. She stirred up trouble the whole time, accusing the wedding party of smoking weed on the property. Keep in mind, weed is 100% legal, and if someone smoked it before arriving, it's their business. Second, there were no lights in the groomsmen's section due to a storm prior. When we asked if we could get a light to shave or whatever, Russ's assistant was very rude and even got mouthy with my groomsman, who showed her nothing but respect by saying "Ma'am" and "Please." Even after she was done chewing out my groomsmen over the light, she walked away, then turned back to finish chewing us out, informing us that certain things "were not her job." Her attitude eventually rubbed off on Russ, and he started talking to me like I was just a thug off the street, despite the fact that I had paid over $10k for this venue. Third, they started trying to do crowd control with our guest list by refusing to let our family and friends in. Some had traveled from out of state and could not get in because Russ's assistant didn't use the list we stayed up all night creating. Instead, she passed the list to our daughter (who doesn't work for the company and wasn't present) to retype, which resulted in a number of people being removed. They let all the older people in (50+) and told anyone who looked young that they weren't on the list, even though they were. Then there were the pictures. It took about 45 minutes to get the lights working outside for our pictures. Because they didn't let our younger family members in, a lot of older people had left before the reception even began, leaving us with a semi-empty room. My only wedding! My lifetime memory ruined by poor customer service and micromanagement. DO NOT USE THEM!! PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!
